Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

@FTB2022 chicken fajitas here tonight
managing to stay away from the wine for second Friday in a row
not been a great day motivation wise though. Got steps in but didn’t manage my joe wicks. I will try again tomorrow.
DH out so quiet night with a book for me
congratulations to everyone who has lost.
have a good weekend all!

FTB2022 · 13/01/2023 19:53

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo the PoN balti looks lovely, not sure why I haven't made it yet! We are doing their bhuna next week.

Chilli and fajitas sound lovely too :)

Have managed to resist a takeaway, gone for co-op chicken parmigiana and triple cooked chips. By no means healthy, but at 569 calories better than a takeaway. Also means I stay under my calorie goal!

Also resisted wine so far....

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/01/2023 22:59

I was going to have a gin tonight instead of the usual wine, but realised no ice or lime! But I'm properly nursing a glass.

Definitely try the chicken balti @FTB2022 it's nice. Good work on resisting the takeaway!

Fara22 · 14/01/2023 08:01

Well the scale has finally started to move in a downwards direction for the first time since before Christmas! Gives me motivation to keep going.

My other motivation was seeing how much money we were spending at the co-op a few evenings a week buying snacks.... with costs rising, it's now a ridiculous amount of money to spend on cheap chocolate added up over the month!!

ImALittlePea · 14/01/2023 13:36

Well done @CumbrianExile 🎉

You've done so well @SanFranBear!

We had fajitas last night. It's my favourite but DH isn't the biggest fan so we don't have it often.

Yesterday:
Lunch - 2 crumpets with butter and marmite, lots of veggies, bag of skips
Snacks - bowl of sharing crisps
Dinner - fajitas with wedges, salad and quesedillas. And wine.

Today:
Lunch - bacon sandwich
Dinner - we're having pizza and sides, ovened though not takeaway
Snacks - oat latte with a cheese & bacon turnover at a cafe (which was really quite bland and I regretted having - won't succumb again, not worth the calories). We always have telly snacks on a Saturday night watching game shows etc. And probably wine again 😂

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend, we're all hunkered down as it's super blustery where we are.

greenspaces4peace · 14/01/2023 19:41

i'm poking along over here.
i'm meeting my exercise/water/fiber/multivit goals BUT
the calorie counting/logging is lacking
food choices are reasonable and is reflected with a stable weight. for the work going into this i'm not seeing the results but that's because i'm being lazy with the logging!
pleased to be under 150, still in the high 149's.

Cloudberries123 · 14/01/2023 20:25

Stable is good greenspaces! Much better than mad fluctuations.

A weekendy weekend so far, I feel a bit out of control with food today and don't feel great.

Have to think back properly to log what I've eaten -

Breakfast 1 (7am) - 1 slice toast, butter, jam. Tea, mocha

Breakfast 2 (11.30) - wholemeal wrap with peanut butter and chocolate sprinkles. Tea

Lunch - macaroni with baby's pureed bolognaise type thing, with salt added. Very tasty actually! All natural good ingredients

Snack - chocolate muffin, coffee

Dinner - bolognaise with pasta.

Just such a random and not that nutritious jumble. Logging every day is helping me see how much caffeine I drink and also how much sugar and snacking of course 😕 Which is why it's useful but tonight I feel really down about it. And like I said, out of control.

Ninjachicken · 15/01/2023 08:59

@Cloudberries123 sorry you are feeling that way. I too have realised how much I snack without realising it. Had two g and t’s last night with snacks and felt really annoyed with myself. I didn’t need or want it but I was at someone’s house and felt it would be rude not to.
i think I need to get out of that mindset.

we just need to keep going and remember today is a clean slate. And we are not alone

be kind to yourself. I don’t think your menu looked too bad! And it’s the weekend which is always harder (for me anyway)

todays plan:
B: toast with marmite, scrambled eggs
L: carrot soup (homemade)
D: Tom yam soup with vermicelli noodles and prawns

just realised that is two soups but oh well !
weather awful here today but I will try for some exercise

good luck everyone !

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/01/2023 09:37

I've overdone the calories this weekend so far - but have been travelling with limited opportunities for healthier choices, so will hopefully balance it across the week!

Sorry you're feeling down @Cloudberries123. Today is a new day though so I hope you start it off feeling a bit more in control.

Cloudberries123 · 15/01/2023 14:44

Thank you both @Ninjachicken and @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo My mood is better today and so is my eating - bit of a chicken and egg situation, wonder which one comes first?!

Reading back I don't think it's the worst menu ever either Ninja although definitely lacking in rainbow colours and nutrients. It was just the feeling of saying yes to every available snack and unplanned item... I'm wary of planning as I get obsessive/go off the rails but maybe a leeeetle bit of planning ahead wouldn't hurt.

Today -

Breakfast - toast with ham and sprinkle of cheese. Mango and melon slices. Decaf coffee, water

Out - normal mocha, decaf latte

Lunch - leftover bolognaise and pasta, water

Snacks - tea, houmous, bread sticks, mini Dutch waffle things

Dinner - roast whole chicken which we haven't had for ages so I'm looking forward to that!

Being brutally honest about what I'm eating and drinking is actually so helpful, though an uncomfortable process. I'm learning a lot about myself.

Happy Sunday everyone! X

ImALittlePea · 15/01/2023 17:17

Evening all (nearly). Feeling distinctly meh over here today. The mood feels mostly hormonal, and the food choices have been driven by said mood, and therefore not been good (I ate a bag of crisps that I didn't need in a rage earlier, and then felt moodier for having done so!). And so the cycle starts! We're on a bit of a shoestring until the end of the month now (double whammy impact of December's pay being a week early due to Christmas and us forgetting our mortgage was going up this month 🤦‍♀️) so even though we are going to be fine in the grand scheme of things, it's a bit of added stress when it comes to meal planning, as we need to keep costs as low as possible.

Having said that, I haven't totally wallowed in the mood today. I made us all get out to the beach for a play earlier, so we've had some fresh air, I've ticked a few jobs off the to-do list, and I think we've got a relatively robust and healthy meal plan for the week.

Meals today:
Lunch - peanut butter sandwich and crisps (see what I mean?!)
Dinner - pasta bake. From a jar, but I've par-cooked a load of veggies to add to it (onions, red and yellow peppers, carrots, broccoli and peas), and I'm going to weight the cheese out to top it rather than free-style. I know DH will want garlic bread but I'm going to refrain (I hope)
Snacks - a few cuppas, the angrily-eaten crisps, a small chunk of cheese, one malted milk biscuit, and two squashem sweets

I haven't drunk enough water today so going to get on that now. Hopefully I can flush this mood-funk out overnight ready for a fresh start to the week.

Not going to tag, but hope all is going as well as it can RealHousewife 💐 thoughts remain with you.

Cloudberries123 · 15/01/2023 18:14

Angrily-eaten crisps 😂 love you LittlePea

AutisticLegoLover · 15/01/2023 18:31

Hello all. I don't know where I am up or down to. I've had a pmt and pain-filled week and it's at its worse today. My digestive system is not happy at all and I feel bloated and sluggish and bluergh. I might have to try MFP again to get on track but find I get obsessed and competitive and it's not good mentally. The plan for tomorrow is:
Porridge and tea for breakfast
Yogurt and berries for lunch
Lentil, carrot and celery soup for dinner
Lots of water.
I'm going to bounce on my ball tonight while watching happy valley and again while watching Vera tomorrow. I've walked 54 miles this week so I'm very active every day and not eating big portions of anything but I'm completely out of diets mentally and physically.
I'm going to catch up on the thread later and see how everyone has been doing to give me the push I need to stop being the weight loss slacker at the back.

buzzofthebumblebee · 15/01/2023 18:32

Hats off to you lovely crew - that even on meh / bad days, honesty and keep on going prevails. Life is unpredictable. We are only human.

Me too - I had reasonably good food friday and yesterday, but then had cake both days. It's on my prohibited list, but given (a) I made it & knew it would be nice (!!!!) (b) it was celebrating a special family birthday and (c) I declined champagne on account of dry jan, it had to be done, no guilt unfortunately I finished the chocolate decorations too and had bag salted popcorn but on balance could have been much worse

Monday motivation tomorrow. Fresh week.

Thanks for reminder to drink more water Pea. Me too.

AutisticLegoLover · 15/01/2023 23:17

I've been bouncing on my gym ball for 3 hours watching tv. It's supposed to be good for your core but my thighs are feeling it.

I don't think I ate dinner today. Or lunch. I had breakfast late, toast, then birthday cake, then I don't think I had anything bar a tangerine.

greenspaces4peace · 16/01/2023 02:43

@AutisticLegoLover oh that sounds fun! i've been walking in place during various tv shows (that my dh is watching).
a friend had an open house with 101 nibblies available and other than chips it all looked suspect soooo although i had chips i don't think i massively over consumed. had a nice turkey wild rice soup for supper.

AutisticLegoLover · 16/01/2023 07:44

The new week has begun. Porridge and tea for breakfast. I have a day off today and that's usually a bad thing for me because I've got time to eat the wrong things. I'm going to sort out all the snack pots today so that dc can take something other than whole fruit to school. Dd doesn't like citrus fruit or apples or bananas for that matter but will eat mango, strawberries, grapes and watermelon but not much else. She will eat carrot sticks and cucumber sticks. ds will eat cherry tomatoes and most fruits.
I walked just short of 60 miles last week. Won the workweek bingo and hustle and the weekend bingo and possibly the weekend warrior as I'm nearly 10k steps ahead of the next person but waiting for everyone to sync. I find the Fitbit really competitive and fun and get a real boost out of it.
I'm going to weigh on Wednesday.

Have a great week everyone!

buzzofthebumblebee · 16/01/2023 08:00

Impressed by your walking @AutisticLegoLover - 60 miles in a week is ALOT! Are there nice walks where you are? Gym ball too. You must have very toned legs. In complete contrast, I have parsnip legs. But they see me good for a 5 mile run yesterday. It was hard. But sticking to the training plan.

Cake x 3 + salty popcorn has seen me gain 2.5lbs over the weekend. I know it's not "real" gain, but it's taught me a good lesson. That's it for birthdays now for the foreseeable, so no more excuse / need to eat any more cake.

Back to my usual:
B - berries, yoghurt & seeds
L - salad and fish
D - chicken & green veg green pesto pasta - not much pasta for me

Have a good week everyone. No snacks, lots of restraint. 2 weeks til the end of the month.

Ninjachicken · 16/01/2023 08:18

@AutisticLegoLover well done on the walking! It is impressive. I don’t usually track but starting this week so I will see how I do!

ended up eating all the cake yesterday
determined to have a good week this week

todays plan:
B: cereal
L: leftover fajita
D: carrot soup
snacks: houmous and veg sticks / banana smoothie

have a good week !

Allthegoodnamestakken · 16/01/2023 08:41

Hello All!
I am back and ready to get back on the wagon after a very terrible couple of weeks. I am back up to 67kgs so now need to loose 2kgs to get back to target. Feeling a bit daunted as I didn't think i'd eaten to badly but clearly I have been and a complete lack of exercise won't have helped either.
We still have ridiculous amounts of christmas chocolate in the house and I am not sure what to do with it as I have no self control when its here and have slipped back into chocolate for breakfast each day so going to need to do a hard reset on the sugar front I think. Perhaps I will ask DH to hide it and bring it out bit by bit at the weekend as I really can't be trusted with it just sat on the counter.

Brieandbeetroot · 16/01/2023 12:12

@Allthegoodnamestakken this may not help but one of the things I have done with Christmas choc/treats this year is work out what I actually really like/what I just gobble because it's there and I fancy something. So two boxes of fudge (I love fudge) but I tried one piece, and I don't enjoy the texture as much as some fudge, so I'm going to give them to a family member and just say, I didn't love this but you might enjoy it. One box is unopened so can go in the food bank at the supermarket. Ranking treats like that at least means that I only keep and eat stuff I really enjoy, so at least it's worth the calories!

AutisticLegoLover · 16/01/2023 12:29

I've put the leftovers chocolates into a tub for taking on holiday next month. The ones I don't like are going to my mum be dude she likes those ones. I didn't enjoy the chocolates much at Christmas this time.

AutisticLegoLover · 16/01/2023 12:34

So far so good today. Porridge and tea, tea and crumpets. Will have yogurt and fruit for lunch then soup for dinner. The soup is on the stove and I'm making the dc's favourite cookies that are heavy on the oats and fruit.

ImALittlePea · 16/01/2023 13:24

Afternoon all

Back to it - no angry eating today!

Lunch - small salad (just lettuce, toms and homemade balsamic dressing) with some Cajun quinoa which I happened upon in the cupboard. Actually very tasty, more calories than my normal go-to, although I don't feel quite as full 🤷‍♀️ hopefully it sees me through to dinner as we eat later on Mondays 🤞
Dinner - JP, beans and cheese. No side salad as I've just eaten it 🤣

I don't know what is wrong with my family, but we still have a bag full of Easter chocolate from last year! We never seem to get round to eating it, then the Xmas chocs get added to it, we get through some of those but the supply never goes down. The cycle will continue this year, undoubtedly! I suppose at least we're not gorging on it. Maybe I need to start baking or using it for something else.

AutisticLegoLover · 16/01/2023 14:06

I've just logged everything for today on MFP and it's depressing how fast the calories add up. It's easy to see once you log how even a couple of extras each day add up to half a stone before you know it.
