Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

@buzzofthebumblebee that post of yours at 9.56 is proper motivation there! I might have to copy and paste that in my phone notes to come back to! You're right, it's about quite a dull journey over time that adds up to amazing changes. That bit about feeling good in summer clothes is very meaningful for me as it's what I've not felt for years now.

I am DETERMINED to make long-term changes.

And with that in mind, I'll not make guilty comments about today's food or feel like I've messed anything up. It's a special day for us here, so a bit of a midweek celebration/festive day. Normal breakfast and then celebration lunch and dinner. Which is all part of healthy long-term changes. repeats to self

Breakfast - rye toast with 2 boiled eggs, cheese on top. Sweet coffee

Snacks - 2 bananas, lots of water

Lunch - chicken, bacon and cheesy sauce on toast. Muffin. Coffee

Dinner - Indian takeaway 🤩 very much looking forward to it. Going for 'ordering whatever meal I want but keeping extras to a minimum'

A positive week so far - we're nearly at the weekend folks, so some people doing a WOF tomorrow and others staying on track with good choices 💪🏻

Cloudberries123 · 12/01/2023 16:03

And welcome @jmase 😀

Brieandbeetroot · 12/01/2023 16:10

@Cloudberries123 sounds delicious and a very sensible approach.

Have had an ok day so far, am finding it difficult with breakfasts as I've never been a breakfast person. I'd often prefer something savoury more akin to a typical lunchtime food!

Managed another workout at lunch today and am definitely looking less bloated including my face having cut back alcohol, sugar and wheat based carbs. I love potatoes and other carby veg so just make it up with that.

Am having a pub lunch on Saturday and have already looked at the menu and decided what I'm having so that I don't get derailed into something unhealthier on the day (I'm going for the chicken Caesar salad) and have already decided no alcohol, no dessert so that I can stay on track! Am having more dental work tomorrow at lunchtime so no lunch and a soft dinner for me which should help me stay within my limits for the day.

ImALittlePea · 12/01/2023 16:40

Absolutely right @buzzofthebumblebee @Cloudberries123 that it is a long, often dull journey to lose/maintain weight. Which is super frustrating at times! But, it is what it is - staying positive and not letting the drudge get to you is a major win!

That is such a sensible approach to a takeaway! The sides are so often a downfall fir me and I never even consider to go lighter on them in favour of a better main meal. Will remember that strategy.

Today for me:
Lunch - guess?! 🤣
Dinner - the last of the bubble and squeak from Christmas (frozen in little patties), sausages, green beans and peas
Snacks (unusually!) - a satsuma and a banana

And all the tea and water

WOF for me tomorrow so staying focussed and out of the kitchen tonight!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/01/2023 17:06

Agree on calorie apps being an eye opener @ImALittlePea - I'd always been a bit anti calorie counting, but I used nutracheck on a free trial and it was a real eye opener. It really helped me change habits and tackle portion control.

Doing pretty well this week - sticking to my calorie goal (1400) and exercising.

Today's food

B - warbutons skinny bagel, two grilled chicken sausages

L - tomato and lentil soup, small pot of Greek yoghurt with pomegranate seeds and a packet of skips

D - will be a potato, cauliflower, halloumi, broccoli bake.

Snacks - could say no to a milk choc digestive in the office!

ImALittlePea · 12/01/2023 18:22

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I have to say, although I told myself I'd get back calorie counting in the new year, I haven't really stuck with it. I did it religiously for a few months last year though and it really helped me form better habits with portion control. And I know I can always return to it if I'm struggling without it.

Happily, kitchen is already cleaned and closed for the night, barring the cuppa I'll have once the children are in bed. I almost went for the chocolates again tonight but instead had the last of my big pot of Greek yog with a few strawberries. Even if the scales aren't my friend tomorrow, I'm proud of my willpower and choices I've made this week.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/01/2023 18:46

Well done on the willpower @ImALittlePea ! I don't always calorie count, but I have re-started as my weight loss has definitely stalled and I know it will help keep me on track!

FTB2022 · 12/01/2023 21:42

ImALittlePea · 11/01/2023 12:44

Hi @FTB2022

According to my MFP app, both meals come in at c. 550cals each, that's obviously with some assumptions (eg on size of potato/sweet potato/chicken breast) and not including any oils, butters etc used for cooking:

Potato 260
Beans (assuming 1/2 tin) 183 cal
Cheese 104 cal
= 547

Chicken breast 211
Sweet potato 165
Corn 126
Pepper 51 (whole)
= 553

Sometimes it's a major eye opener when you put the food into one of these apps, I certainly have made the mistake of thinking that some foods are lower cals than they are! But your meals sound healthy and you're still under your 1200 goal, so I think you've nailed it myself 😊if you didn't yesterday, maybe put your menu into MFP at the start of the day to see what the calorie count will be, and then you can make adjustments before you've eaten it - if that makes sense?

Thanks for this! I do use MFP and it certainly is an eye opener!

Feel like I've done much better today. Under 1200 calories, and have done more exercise :)

SanFranBear · 12/01/2023 21:57

Really not sure what the morning will bring for me, weight wise. I'd like to think down a bit but I've not been particularly strict this week - I guess I'll just keep things crossed I'm down at least a little bit.

I've still been tracking on MFP as that's really the only way that I keep an eye on what's going in as I have no willpower left to my own devices! It does make me really stop and think, 'do I need that?'.. I mean, I often say 'hell yeah' and still tuck in but at least monitor the damage 😁

At least its almost the weekend and planning on a fair bit of activity as well as long overdue haircut! Don't like these dark mornings so hurry up spring!

Fara22 · 12/01/2023 22:04

I'm investigating MFP too, and it is very difficult to be confronted by those extra calories from the "little bit of chocolate" or "a few biscuits"! Just shows you how every little bit adds up throughout the day!

greenspaces4peace · 12/01/2023 23:45

@Fara22 my moment of reckoning was weighing pumpkin seeds, amazing light salty pumpkin seeds from my pantry...a handful here a handful there...i estimated it was an easy 300 calories inhaled.

limerentidiot · 13/01/2023 02:35

well done on going under 150, @greenspaces4peace, and on hitting your goal, @Cloudberries123 !

I dropped 2lb since my first weigh in! I also got a few (and i mean a few) sleeping pills from the doctor, because staying awake until 6am isn’t sustainable (thanks menopause).

it was a weird day at work so i didn’t really get meals, just ate 5 babybels, loads of grapes, hummus and carrots and two cans of Coke. All available in the office fridge. Then a nice sausage stew for dinner.

SanFranBear · 13/01/2023 07:11

Whooop.... I've lost .7kg which I am delighted with:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 67.5kg
January GW: 66kg

What a lovely surprise - was obviously hoping for a loss but not as significant a one as means I'm only 1lb off being officially 6 stone down!

In the office today and then a FWB visit this afternoon so should have a fairly healthy Friday too... hope everyone else is hitting the weekend on a happy note!

ImALittlePea · 13/01/2023 07:26

Sadly the scales weren't being particularly friendly today as I stayed the same 😏

Disappointment not helped by a dream I had overnight where I hopped on and was 9s 7lb 🤣

BUT... I am still proud of my choices and willpower this week. I think I probably deserve a small loss, but weight loss can be weird, and I always wonder whether had I not made those better choices, would I have seen a gain instead? So a STS has to be seen as a good thing.

And my finally thought on it - I don't need to be where I want to be today. We all know it takes time, can be a slog, and can be frustrating AF. I only have a few more lb to go, and those are often the hardest, so I think I need to accept that I will have possibly more weeks like this than always seeing a loss.

Mindset is everything!

Happy Friday/weekend all 😊

ImALittlePea · 13/01/2023 08:01

Ooh just went to log my weight and I made a mistake! I've lost 1/2lb! That's given me a major mood boost for the day! 🤩

Cloudberries123 · 13/01/2023 08:02

You may well see it next week though LittlePea that's my thought! And we've all had those dreams of being our goal healthy weight 😂 Dream it into existence!

SanFranBear Well done you! Love an unexpected loss. Have a lovely Friday with your friend 😉

limerent Hope your sleep improves soon! Your random day of food does sound healthy though!

Have a lovely Friday all!

Cloudberries123 · 13/01/2023 08:03

Ah cross post LittlePea well done!

buzzofthebumblebee · 13/01/2023 09:29

Well done Friday losers. Seriously @SanFranBear - nearly 6 stone? that's incredible. You must be SO proud of yourself. I can't do the maths, but that must be over 1/3 of your body weight. Now THAT is motivation and will power.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/01/2023 10:49

Congratulations on all the day's losses! 6 stone is incredible @SanFranBear

I've been pretty good this week and have decided not to have wine tonight to keep it going. I have a lot of socialising coming up over the next few weeks so I need some calories in the bank!

Very hungry today though, so trying to eat high protein foods to fill me up and stay away from the empty calories. Just had a tiny bit of cheese (instead of a biscuit) and it came in at 125 calories - I hear you on the pumpkin seeds @greenspaces4peace !

CumbrianExile · 13/01/2023 15:35

@ImALittlePea I think I'm following you on the weight loss. I also lost 1/2lb and think we lost the same last week too!

I'm quite happy with it this week. I mean I'd always like more but it's been a difficult week. I am looking at the positives though. I've drank more than 2litres of water every day and swam 3 times this week. I just need to stop the picking ha.

Fab loss @SanFranBear !

Have a good weekend everyone!

FTB2022 · 13/01/2023 18:20

Struggling with willpower this evening! We would usually get a takeaway and there's nothing in the house for dinner. Know I should just go to the shop but it's bloody miserable out there!

What's everyone having for dinner?

SanFranBear · 13/01/2023 18:28

Aw, thanks everyone! The challenge is now keeping it off whilst still trying to lose thay stubborn last half stone!

What's everyone having for dinner?

I'm making pizza for DC but will likely have a salad as have just inhaled two chocolate digestives and three ginger nuts... I shouldn't have them in the house (especially the ginger nuts!) but I couldn't help myself on this week's shop. Perhaps make a fake away, FTB, although they're sometimes a lot of work!

emptythelitterbox · 13/01/2023 18:49

Down 5 then up 1.5 ugh

Chilli for us tonight @FTB2022 My DH cooked it yesterday and I've struggled to not eat it all day 😂

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/01/2023 19:23

We had a pinch of nom fakeaway chicken balti @FTB2022 . We sometimes have Fakeaway Friday with zero alcohol beer if we're on a mission to keep the calories down.
