Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

63,55kg this morning which is annoying but I assume it's AF weight because I've not gained over half a kg of fat in 2 days when I've walked 18 miles in those 2 days and not eaten large amounts. Either AF or the chip buttie! It should balance out by Friday I hope.

Bumblebeehum · 11/01/2023 08:12

Morning! Congrats to those showing a loss this week 🏅

I only lost 1lb which I’m not happy about - it’s not enough for all I do!!

I eat less than 1300 cals daily, I exercise, I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t have breakfast in order to 16:8 and don’t eat carbs after 2pm. What else can I do?!

My BMI is still so bad that I qualify for bariatric surgery (self-funding), I was hoping to be out of that range by now as the surgery scares me, but if I can only lose 1lb a week I might have to think seriously about it.

Hoping next week is better.

(sorry for the rant)

ndo4000 · 11/01/2023 08:14

Wednesday weigh in!

SW: 66kg
CW: 65.6kg
TW: 60kg

Have had a reasonable week. Struggling with snacking when the kids get home from school. Crisps. I just love crisps. Been doing couch 2 5k and giving the dog an extra walk when I can. Have cut out a lot of alcohol, which I think has made a big difference......

buzzofthebumblebee · 11/01/2023 08:30

Well done so far, even if only small losses. It all adds up, and far better than a gain. And woo hoo to your mini-goal @Cloudberries123 . That's great.

SW - 11 13
CW - 11 10
GW - 10 12 / 69.9 kg - so under 11 stone or 70 kg

So I lost 3 lbs this week. Mini-goal is to be 11 2 by end of Feb, to be exactly where I was a year ago (when I lost 2 stone).

I-want-to-be-that-weight-determination at the moment is stronger than I-want-to-eat-biscuits/chocolate/crisps so I'll go with the flow.

Hope everyone else does OK with WOW today.

Still thinking of you TheRealHousewife.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 11/01/2023 08:35

69kg today. Down 1lb on last week and I'm pretty pleased with that as I attacked to Christmas leftover snacks with gusto at the weekend and only really started properly on Monday.

I have some serious DOMS this morning after getting back on the exercise track this morning, so will need to think what I can manage today as my fitness builds back up after a lazy few weeks.

B: boiled egg with toast and hot water with lemon
L: a low calorie homemade tomato soup, couple of falafels with humous and fruit
D: not sure yet!

Good luck with your weigh-ins everyone!

shimmerbubbles · 11/01/2023 08:43

Happy with a 1.4kg loss for my first week back on track.

SW: 72.2kg
CW: 70.7kg
GW: 65kg

Aiming to be under 70 next week.

123ROLO · 11/01/2023 09:18

@Bumblebeehum

Hi, sorry if this sounds patronising or you have already considered it, but have you had things like Thyroid/hormonal things checked ? ...that does seem like too little of weight coming off for that low of calories.

Otherwise it may just be waiting for the 'woosh' effect, that happened to me when I lost quite a lot of weight a while back, it was very slow and steady then it was as if I woke up one morning and lots of weight just fell off

123ROLO · 11/01/2023 09:21

No weigh ins for me, initially I'm going off clothes fitting, once I'm wearing a top I could fit into 3 years ago. I'll start weighing (I'm guessing I'm a stone off).

I've already noticed a slight difference in my clothes now, nothing significant but a bit more give around the waist/ hips

Bumblebeehum · 11/01/2023 09:32

Thanks @123ROLO thats a good suggestion. I’m hoping the whoosh effect kicks in (I might also put new batteries in the scale)

Loving seeing all the successes on here, helps me keep going!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 11/01/2023 11:44

@Bumblebeehum I'm no expert at all, but is it possible your calorie intake is too low for your weight? In which case your metabolic rate might be slowing? If you qualify for surgery, could your GP refer you to a nutritionist for advice instead? Does your exercise include any strength activity? That could help.

But for what it's worth, everything I have ever read says slow and steady is the most sustainable way to lose weight, so 1lb a week is a win!

Bumblebeehum · 11/01/2023 12:24

Food for thought, I’ll do some reading on metabolism (I guess I am also of an age for a peri-menopausal slow down 😳)

ImALittlePea · 11/01/2023 12:44

Hi @FTB2022

According to my MFP app, both meals come in at c. 550cals each, that's obviously with some assumptions (eg on size of potato/sweet potato/chicken breast) and not including any oils, butters etc used for cooking:

Potato 260
Beans (assuming 1/2 tin) 183 cal
Cheese 104 cal
= 547

Chicken breast 211
Sweet potato 165
Corn 126
Pepper 51 (whole)
= 553

Sometimes it's a major eye opener when you put the food into one of these apps, I certainly have made the mistake of thinking that some foods are lower cals than they are! But your meals sound healthy and you're still under your 1200 goal, so I think you've nailed it myself 😊if you didn't yesterday, maybe put your menu into MFP at the start of the day to see what the calorie count will be, and then you can make adjustments before you've eaten it - if that makes sense?

ImALittlePea · 11/01/2023 12:51

Huge well done to everyone who has weighed (so far) today! Agree with PP that a loss is a loss, however small it may feel compared to the effort.

@Bumblebeehum, hopefully you'll get a whoosh soon but some good advice on other things to consider. Keep going, you've got this!

Yay on hitting your mini goal @Cloudberries123!

@buzzofthebumblebee I can very much relate to I-want-to-be-that-weight-determination at the moment is stronger than I-want-to-eat-biscuits/chocolate/crisps at the moment. In fact, I very nearly just went for a bag of crisps while the kettle was boiling for my cup-a-soup just now as I'm eating a little later than usual, so hungrier than usual. But I decided just to wait, I'm going to have a bowl of greek yoghurt with some fruit after lunch, and if I feel like I need something later, than I will see what there is. Normally, once the thought of crisps enters my brain I struggle not to have them - so I'm almost more determined not to have them today, just so I can feel proud of myself later! (and hopefully see a good result when I weigh on Friday!)

Today's plan over here:
Lunch - same old; cup-a-soup, veggies, dairylea triangle. Greek yog to follow.
Dinner - simple staple of baked potato, beans and cheese

And as always, plenty of tea and water.

Brieandbeetroot · 11/01/2023 13:42

Hello all!

I decided not to weigh today as having had a 3lb water weight lost last week I knew there was no chance of a loss this week and didn't want to be derailed by the numbers. I am doing well, much less mindless snacking and am starting to identify "problem" behaviours. I eat while I cook, often cheese, which adds a lot of unnecessary extra calories! I also struggle to resist sugar when I'm tired, which is often as I have a 2 year old who still hates sleep (I was up from 1-4 last night and then again at 6) and a full time job.

I would like to feel like life was calm and less frantic so that I could look forward to exercise and eating well instead of seeing it as a chore. Still, can't get there all at once!

I am weaning myself off coffee with sugar so this morning had a cappuccino with no sugar. Also, avoiding alcohol during the week, have never drunk a lot but ended up DH and I having a midweek glass of wine with dinner etc so that's off the menu now.

Am struggling to motivate myself to exercise as am tired but will try to do a JM workout now in my lunch break.

Well done to all those who have weighed in and good luck everyone for another week!

Aftertheharvest · 11/01/2023 14:30

Illness means that I haven’t been very active this week and have been polishing off a lot of the Christmas chocolate bars, however scale heading in the right direction!

SW: 146 lbs
CW: 144.4 lbs
GW: 132 lbs

Cloudberries123 · 11/01/2023 14:43

Well done everybody, lots of losses this week! Applauding you (us) all!

I'm one who genuinely thought weight loss didn't 'work' for me so the fact I've met even a mini goal is really something to celebrate.

Brieandbeetroot I have a baby as well and I find it's the interrupted sleep rather than lack of sleep that really gets me! I might still get 8+ hours of a night but if I've woken up 4-5 times it's absolutely killer. Sleep is also massively linked to weight so don't punish yourself if things don't go as smoothly/quickly as you'd like.

My food today - feeling stuffed and got to be careful not to 'reward' my loss by eating too much.

Breakfast - chicken and bacon sandwich, coffee

Work snacks - 2 bananas, water

Lunch - ham and cheese sandwich, few mouthfuls of leftover curry. Tea, 4-5 hobnobs

Dinner - not sure yet but on a bit of a meat, veg and rice kick!

jmase · 11/01/2023 16:43

Was hoping I could join! I'm looking for inspiration/motivation. I'm currently 21st 13Ibs and I'm 5ft 2ft. So very overweight. Iv lost weight previously over the years (3-4 stone) but never maintained. I started calorie counting last week. Just weight myself this morning am I have lost 5Ibs. Currently using the nutracheck app. Any useful tips, websites and apps etc would be appreciated! 😊

Good luck everyone. X

ImALittlePea · 11/01/2023 17:56

Pretty much stuck to plan today, aside from adding a cheese and onion crispbake to my dinner as the baker and beans wasn't quite enough. +260ish calories. I also had an orange mid arvo - and avoided the crisps!! I'm starting to hanker after something sweet; I'm hoping I can get through the evening without dipping into the chocolate tub but right now my resolve isn't as strong as I'd like it to be 😬

Brieandbeetroot · 11/01/2023 18:02

@Cloudberries123 you're so right, it is the interruption. Sleeping in 2 hour chunks is not something I can ever get used to, only survive! I was sure I'd ordered a baby that slept through the night 😆

Did manage to do my JM workout at lunchtime and felt so much better for it! Have had a pretty good day eating wise and having chicken stir fry noodles with leek, peas and green beans for dinner.

Ninjachicken · 11/01/2023 19:31

Was really nervous to weigh in this morning. 67.55kg.
worse than I was expecting/hoping. I have not weighed myself since beginning of last summer. I am 5 foot 2 so would like to at least be under 60 kg.
trying not to feel too down. Am doing joe wicks and did manage to do one today.
B: toast with marmite
L: small portion of spaghetti bolognaise
D: rice with minced pork ( recipe from ching he hueng)
snack: sweet potato wedges

@ImALittlePea thank you, you are right about the snacking. I really liked Maid by the way !
Well done to everyone on their losses and positivity!!!

greenspaces4peace · 11/01/2023 19:42

Back up 150.7
lots of “extra” nibbles sneaking into my diet.
exercise going well, water, fiber etc.
I just need a tiny bit more willpower.

RadFad · 11/01/2023 20:34

1lb loss for me this week. A bit disappointing but a loss is a loss I guess.

Food has all been on plan today and I have kept up my exercise today and Monday.

milkfromthesleepycow · 12/01/2023 08:15

I forgot to WOW! First time in over 12 months 😂
Works been crazy, I'm not getting enough sleep, generally grouchy and struggling to get my head in the game.
I've made most of my workouts this week but ginger nuts have also been a feature. It's utterly pouring here this morning with strong winds so I'm putting my run off until later.
Will try and use the time to meal plan and organise the rest of the month instead.
It's funny, I was so motivated this time last year.
Some really good gains and maintains- keep up the good work everyone 👏

buzzofthebumblebee · 12/01/2023 09:56

January is always a tricky month to get in food focus - but the hard work now will definitely pay off by summer & feeling good in t-shirts & dresses etc. Weight doesn't drop off or bodies tone all by themselves overnight. It takes willpower, resisting treats and snacks, and effort to move more. It's hard. It's dull. It's frustrating. But slowly slowly, one-day-at-a-time, it all adds up to a month to two months, to 2lbs, to 4lbs, to 1/2 stone loss, to more. KEEP AT IT.

(self-motivation wobble and kick-up-the-backside for myself! About to have 2nd bowl muesli because it tastes nice, not cos I need it. I'll have 2nd cuppa instead).

buzzofthebumblebee · 12/01/2023 10:08

Hope you are OK Milk ?! I'm feeling a bit the same. Hope you do get out for your run later. I got drenched on Tuesday, dodging puddles everywhere but indulged in long hot shower after. This time last year I had the goal of my 50th end feb. 51st not quite the same incentive?! So signed-up for running event April so I have a goal, and have to train. I'm so un-self-motivated otherwise.

Welcome @jmase . No fancy apps, websites, tips from me I'm afraid. Just good old-fashioned calorie counting & will-power. Small breakfast, protein + veg lunch (very small carb), protein + veg + carb dinner. I've got a very sweet tooth, and all-or-nothing (whole bag crisps, packet biscuits at a time). So I just cut out all snacks & sweet stuff completely. Not having one, I don't have the temptation. Also stops the "just one more" then binge then guilt / feel rubbish cycle. 5lbs is an amazing start.
