Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

@SparkleBubble I am a daily weigher. It keeps my brain focussed. I know my body's fluctuations so don't allow them to spiral me off course.

Last week didn't go to plan, there were too many temptations in the way, so this is the reset. I still managed to shift 2lbs so am not unhappy just determined! I did manage to properly meal plan and find some new recipes and reintroduced some old favourites, re jigged to cater for the new family's gluten free, lactose free regime.

Working today so the good plan is:
Breakfast - GF cornflakes with grapes and lacto free milk
Lunch - salad with tomato and herb pasta and a few olives. Yoghurt, banana and orange.
Dinner - roast chicken. DD and DH are having GF treacle puddings for afters, I'll have fruit and yoghurt.

Cloudberries123 · 08/01/2023 09:29

ginsparkles Great determination, and that menu looks really tasty!

CumbrianExile glad to know it's not just us who get an almighty desire on the way home when it's dark and raining! To be fair, we did have salad with the fish and chips!

Sparkle I don't weigh daily as I have a tendency to get obsessive. The collective weekly weigh-in seems to be really working for me as it's regular but not too often, plus I can see that others have fluctuations up and down too.

Up and out on an early walk with a grouchy baby this morning and stopped at a café as it was raining.

Breakfast - lots of water. Mocha, almond croissant

Later...
Lunch - probably eggs in some form

Snacks - orange, apple, tea/coffee

Dinner - lamb, veg and a starch

Happy Sunday everyone!

Amazonmulu · 08/01/2023 11:11

Checking in after about a week of absence - Happy Sunday everyone!

I've lost 10lb since 1/1/23 which must have been 💩and 💦 as it's not possible to lose that much in fat in 8 days. Think it will hit plateau this week so dreading that.

I weigh myself daily as it sets my motivation.

I've been having skyr yogurt, berries, and nuts for breakfast. But most of my morning calories come from coffee and oat milk 🙈 I'm going to try black coffee and caramel stevia next week 🤞🏻

Lunches are either Covent Garden soup or salad veg and a tin of mackerel (Morrisons have a mouth watering range of flavours and my current favourite is red Thai curry mackerel 🤤🤤). Not everyone's cup of tea.

For dinner I hve whatever I've cooled for my family but swap wedges / pasta for veg.

I snack a lot in between though - salami, ham, fruit, miso soup, even a little dark chocolate, plain yogurt.

I've been walking the dog each day, and running 5km twice a week. Still not done any weight training - going to try this week as it may help with the plateau 🤞🏻

I have 28lb to lose to get into the healthy weight range from obese - just hoping I can keep this up as it uses so much willpower.

Midnightstar76 · 08/01/2023 11:37

I used to weigh myself daily but I am trying not to and going to weigh at the end of the month instead but I did sneakily hop on the scales earlier this week.
Got up early doors and did some overtime WFH then prepped a slow cooker curry for tea, very healthy no cream in it or anything just lots of different spices and chopped tomatoes, chicken. Then I grabbed on my running gear and got out for a run and chuffed I beat the rain as very miserable out now. Not had breakfast as exercise seems to help suppress my appetite but very much looking forward to lunch soon.
Happy Sunday everyone.

AutisticLegoLover · 08/01/2023 12:59

It's the real start for me tomorrow because the dc are back in school and normal routine can recommence. Lots of walking planned as per the usual week. AF is due so the scales will be up tomorrow but it's a starting point at least. I don't know what to do for dinner today. I wish I liked eggs but I just can't eat them 🤢 Ive not been feeling too well this weekend but there's been a lot of stress over the Christmas holiday and I think it's that, exhaustion and AF because I have endometriosis and have daily pain anyway but the last few days have been bad. Porridge for breakfast most mornings from from tomorrow. Even Dd has said she will eat some banana on it and that's a huge step for her. I like mine with banana and golden syrup.

What's everyone having for dinner today? I need inspiration.

LollipopViolet · 08/01/2023 13:15

Well, yesterday was good, in the sense that I made healthier choices than I usually would, but I still essentially ate an extra meal (toastie between skating sessions). Hopefully that doesn't do too much damage.

I've just booked a holiday - a week all inclusive in Malta, in early May, with the friend I went to Florida with, so I NEED to keep up the good habits. I want to feel confident around the pool.

RadFad · 08/01/2023 15:34

Yesterday wasn’t great for me. I seem to fail at lunch on the weekends and then get over hungry. We went out for dinner for DD birthday and then had birthday cake. I’m hoping it won’t derail the hard work I’ve put in so far this week.

I’m cooking a roast today and early to bed as it’s my 5.30 wake up and exercise day tomorrow.

ImALittlePea · 08/01/2023 16:04

Sorry to hear you've been messed around @TheRealHousewife that really is awful.

Weekend lowdown incoming...

Saturday's meals:
Lunch - cheese, onion & marmite toastie
Dinner - homemade wedges, southern fried chicken steak, beans
Snacks - oof, way too many crisps 😂
Tea, water, wine

Today:
Lunch - bacon sandwich, bag of skips
Dinner - chilli with rice and a side of green veg
Snacks - more crisps, a satsuma
Tea, water, the leftover wine from last night 😂

Have spent today carefully meal planning and shopping, think we've got a solid menu lined up and touch wood kids finally both back at school/nursery. Looking forward to a bit of normality (please please please!) 😊

Wishing everyone a restful Sunday, bring on the new week ahead!

buzzofthebumblebee · 08/01/2023 20:37

Evening everyone. REALLY tempted to snack, but making do with camomile tea. On the plus side I went for a run and didn't have breakfast. On down side I had roast beef lunch and then had birthday cake. My only exceptions to no sugar is birthday cake ; )

I'm generally feeling less bloated. Lets hope cake damage isn't too much and scales show a loss on Wednesday.

AutisticLegoLover · 08/01/2023 23:50

In preparation for the fresh start tomorrow I've put the oats and milk in a jug in the fridge ready to zap in the morning for our breakfast. I'm not sure it actually saves cooking time but it means I'll stick to the plan of porridge if nothing else.
I plan on clocking up 6 miles tomorrow at least but it's more likely to be 8.
My insides are very unhappy with me but I'm not sure why I have epigastric pain on top of the endometriosis pain and back ache plus achey legs! I haven't eaten or drink anything out of the ordinary that would account for the epigastric pain. Ah well, it will go in a day or so.
I was tempted to bounce on my gym ball whilst watching happy valley tonight but I did some more of the Lego Home Alone house instead. It was supposed to be finished by today but I was too busy doing other things. I had the last of the knock off baileys and won't drink now until next Christmas in all likelihood.
I am dreading the weigh in tomorrow. I feel so bloated and objectively AM bloated but by Wednesday I might have dropped a pound or two and be feeling on top of things again.
Let's do this!
9st 3lb by February 17th so I feel less traumatised by wearing a tankini on holiday.

Lincolnshiresausage · 09/01/2023 00:26

Going to join you tomorrow. I'll weigh first thing and them get started arrrgh . I know I'm over healthy bmi so I need to get cracking

HappinessDragon · 09/01/2023 07:11

I was doing pretty well last week. Was WFH so not getting my steps in but meal plan was great. Unfortunately fell off the wagon hugely over the weekend as stressed about being back in the office due to 4.30/5am starts and hours of commuting.
Weighed this morning and I’ve put some on over the weekend but I’m still 1.4lb down from the 1st so I’ll take the little wins.
Feel like I have a cold coming on and I’ve had hardly any sleep so not the best start to the week but I’m on the train now and planning to drink plenty of water, take my supplements and hopefully get to the chemist for some lemsips!
Good luck this week everyone!

Fara22 · 09/01/2023 07:24

Well I think my jet lag is finally, finally over. It has not been a good week food and exercise-wise. Too bloody tired! Crossing my fingers for maintenance for the next weigh in I think...

Great to see everyone's meal and exercise choices! I've booked some classes at my gym for this week - mix of Pilates and aqua. Having something booked in feels good!

I have a party to go to mid March, so that's a good goal to keep in mind.

AutisticLegoLover · 09/01/2023 07:24

Morning all.
63kg this morning-that's 1.46kg up since before Christmas. Not too bad.

shimmerbubbles · 09/01/2023 07:43

(NC - swapped the sparkle for shimmer)

Tough day today. Just wanted to eat ALL the food! Didn't end up being too bad but it was touch and go there for a while - serious willpower exerted.

buzzofthebumblebee · 09/01/2023 08:22

Morning all. 2nd full week. Hope we all find that willpower. Some days far easier than others. Small steps. One day at a time.

B - blueberries, natural yoghurt & seeds
L - roast veggies & salad + prawns
D - veggie pasta bake, heavy on veggies, light on pasta.

Off to the gym shortly. Not feeling it but always feel better after.

Happy Monday

StorybookWitch · 09/01/2023 09:29

Morning all, hope everyone is keeping well.

I am officially starting today (We have several birthdays in the first week of January so I decided to hold off and avoid the guilt tripping when I inevitably didn't stick to my plan!) I have been following along with the thread, well done to everyone for making changes and getting moving! I definitely feel inspired to get going this week.

My plan is to start simply - cut out all the junk, increase my water intake and walk for an hour everyday. I'm going to set 3 small goals/changes, every 7 days and try to build better, sustainable habits for this year. The kids are back in school so I'm off to meal plan and food shop. Hope everyone's Monday goes well!

Thinking of you @TheRealHousewife xx

ImALittlePea · 09/01/2023 12:27

Hello fresh new week!

Placing all hopes on a much more 'normal' week this week, ie no absences from school/nursery, so I can stick to my food plans and get some much needed work done.

Today's plan:
Lunch - cup-a-soup, veggies, dairylea triangle and the last of the crackers.
Dinner - hunters chicken, new pots, greens

Remember to stay hydrated gang!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/01/2023 12:30

Morning all. First full week starting today for me too @StorybookWitch

More water, regular exercise (to include strength) and calorie counting are my goals.

B - boiled egg with toast
L - home made lentil & bacon soup
D - chicken pilaf with leftover roast chicken.

Aiming to stay under 1400 cals once any fruit, tea etc. factored in.

Special challenge for the week - stay away from the Christmas chocolate!

Cloudberries123 · 09/01/2023 13:31

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo @StorybookWitch welcome and well done for taking your health in hand 😁 Both got really good goals.

LittlePea one of these days I'm going to try your cup a soup, veg and Dairylea triangle lunches!

Shimmerbubbles nice name change, and I too have days where all I want to do is eat eat eat. Don't quote me on it but anecdotally it might be OK once in a while? Kind of like telling your body you're not starving?

buzz I love everything about your meals today, can I come round? 😁

Wish I had time to tag more people but baby life is calling. Quick food log -

Breakfast - 2 boiled eggs, fish paste, toast, coffee

Work snacks - 2 apples, water

Lunch - coffee (so far)

Dinner - I'm making chicken, butternut and coconut curry 🥘😋

Well done everyone!

ImALittlePea · 09/01/2023 14:03

It's more filling than it sounds @Cloudberries123 😂

And yes, I think having blowout days isn't always a bad thing, as long as it doesn't carry on into tomorrow and beyond. I certainly do it most weekends, and it hasn't derailed me (yet) as I know that the majority of the time I am mindful, I measure/weigh out my portions and steer clear of more processed foods. Sometimes you've got to listen to your body and what it's telling you it needs. Well done for not going too deep though @shimmerbubbles

I'd have some of that pasta bake too @buzzofthebumblebee 😁 and Cloud's curry too, in fact.

So much wonderful food inspiration!

Brieandbeetroot · 09/01/2023 18:00

Evening all!

Am enjoying keeping up with what everyone is eating/exercising. Despite hosting a belated Xmas for family this weekend I'm staying on track. I kept my portions small, didn't snack or drink too many calories and am feeling motivated and determined. Kept to my MyFitnesPal calorie goal today but didn't eat back my exercise calories.

Today have had: banana and tangerine; sandwich and chicken and vegetable soup; and dinner will be baked leek and smoked cod risotto. I may have a treat with my evening cup of tea later but managed not to last night!

Tomorrow I'm going to do a Jillian Michaels workout at lunchtime.

greenspaces4peace · 09/01/2023 18:37

good morning from western canada :)
starting the week at 149.6, i'm pleased with this.
goal for this very wintery month is at least .5 a week, so by sunday i'm hoping to see 149.1
@TheRealHousewife i read your post regarding the no show service, hoping this week goes smoothly.

Cloudberries123 · 09/01/2023 19:44

Good morning over there greenspaces back into the 140s, I know that'll mean a lot to you 😊

The curry was great if I say so myself LittlePea

The Christmas sweets trend continues tonight with leftover biscuits and a cuppa. I need to be careful as it's becoming a habit to eat sugary things every day again and it is like trying to get off crack once the habit is ingrained.

However, I shall enjoy the biscuits in a moderate and healthy way 🤞🏻

ImALittlePea · 09/01/2023 19:49

I too am feeling the draw towards the sweet evening treats tonight @Cloudberries123 but I really want to break those habits so I'm ignoring the fact the kitchen even exists and trying to find a new Netflix series to watch.
