Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

Morning!

Weigh in for me today too and I'm down 1.5lb.

I was actually a little disappointed at first, I think I expected more. But then I have myself a talking to. This is where I have failed in the past, expecting big losses, being upset when not getting them and then giving up. 1.5lb is a decent loss!

I dragged myself swimming and managed a pb of 40 lengths. And my fit bit keeps reminding me to walk 250 steps every hour. So positive pants are back on 😂

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 06/01/2023 13:59

Posting this here to mark my place on the thread as I lost you all and finding you again has made me resist a slice of Christmas cake.
I am now going to read the whole thread to catch up while I have some tea on its own.

Cloudberries123 · 06/01/2023 14:07

Great loss CumbrianExile very motivating isn't it! I would always take any plateau or gain as gospel and disbelieve any loss 🙄 Trying to be really positive these days and celebrate every loss, even if it goes the other way next week!

Well done LittlePea and SanFran as well. Not too shabby!

Welcome Sparkle you're in a good place for post weight loss support and maintenance!

Me today -

Breakfast - tea, then shop sandwich and coffee

Work snacks - 2 apples

Lunch - 2 fried eggs with a bit of cheddar melted on top. Protein and fat to banish the post-work starving feeling. Then sabotaged myself somewhat by adding 4-5 hobnobs to that. But hey ho, baby steps, nothing drastic.

Happy weekend everyone!

ImALittlePea · 06/01/2023 14:29

Well done @SanFranBear for not letting December derail you!

And snap @CumbrianExile totally get what you mean about expectations and how they can make you feel like giving up. But as already said - every loss should be celebrated.

Waving to everyone else 👋👋 and hi again @Was126orbustandmaybebust

Decent control so far today for me:
Lunch - 2 crumpets with peanut butter and a bag of crisps
Dinner - will be sausages, crushed roasted new potatoes, peas and carrots
Snack - one satsuma and one chewit.. so far

And lots of tea and lots more water!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/01/2023 15:44

Hi everyone. Well done to everyone making a good start to the year and sorry to read of your loss @TheRealHousewife

I was due to make a start on Wednesday but a family emergency put paid to that. On the scales this morning and have restarted the calorie counting today. Got about a stone and a half to lose.

Breakfast - boiled egg with toast
Lunch - homemade lentil & tomato soup, slice of bread (don't normally have the bread but the soup is very low cal) and a handful of grapes
Dinner will be a prawn / pepper / rice dish.
Should leave me with enough calories for a glass of wine or two!

limerentidiot · 06/01/2023 15:44

Well done on the weight and the swimming, @CumbrianExile

@SanFranBear, I think every week needs a non-restrictive day to allow you to keep going, so enjoy tonight!

@ImALittlePea I want your dinner!

ImALittlePea · 06/01/2023 16:42

Haha, DH is a bit bored of these potatoes as they're my absolute favourites and I probably do make them a little too often 😂 @limerentidiot

SparkleBubble · 06/01/2023 19:13

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

I'm a teacher and still on Christmas holidays which has been giving me a bit more flexibility with my food (esp. lunches), but has the added danger of boredom eating!

I need to start doing more exercise - I've gotten really slack at being motivated to close my apple watch rings. Currently I do aquajogging once a week, but otherwise it's just walking the dogs which doesn't really get my heart rate up much as my older dog is soooo slow. I'm thinking of trying some of those dance-exercise channels on YouTube, and maybe taking my younger dog on an extra walk around the neighbourhood.

Candy500 · 06/01/2023 19:47

I are bread for breakfast and it went downhill from there - kept to 1200 calories for 3 days but today two mince pies, crisps and now lasagne so I will just have to reduce calories radically in nxt few days to balance it out over the week

buzzofthebumblebee · 06/01/2023 21:22

Quick check-in - well done to losses already this month!

Can't report the same - I've overdone the carbs yesterday, feeling bloated. Will get back on it tomorrow.

Sending positive vibes and lots of restraint for a friday night & the weekend!

RadFad · 06/01/2023 21:59

@SparkleBubble I’d really recommend Growwithjo on YouTube. Lots of variety for different fitness levels. Mixture of dance/strength/hiit.

I’ve snacked on quite a few biscuits today and have gone slightly over my allowance today. I went to bed closer to midnight last night and I can definitely notice the difference in hunger and motivation when I do this.

It’s my youngest DC birthday this weekend so the challenge will be not eating ALL the cake.

I honestly think cutting out breakfast - which for me would either be toast or cereal - was the game changer for me. Whenever I eat breakfast, I'm infinitely hungrier all day - not just until lunch, but I end up snacking more all day. Since cutting it out my need for snacks has really faded away. I don't technically "fast" as I have tea with milk and sugar, but that and water keeps me more than full and happy until lunch.

Obviously that's not to say that would work for you. Just solidarity with the bread/downhill relationship.

Candy500 · 06/01/2023 22:06

Yes I think there is a link

SparkleBubble · 07/01/2023 06:30

Thanks for the suggestion @RadFad - I did one of the GrowwithJo workouts today and it was great. Closed all my watch rings today for the first time in ages!

Today's food was a 10am coffee from my Nespresso and a protein bar, a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch plus an apple with cashew butter, and salmon with couscous and cucumber/bell pepper/orange for dinner.

Midnightstar76 · 07/01/2023 08:34

Well first week hasn’t been too bad. Not weighing myself until the end of the month. Trying to do exercise three times a week and came across Growwithjo yesterday and did that, I enjoyed it and sore today so it’s working. Will look for more of her workouts. Was good and took a box of chocs into work so I won’t eat them. Trying to do fasting but started this week just eating three meals with no snacking on rubbish and managed that so yes positive week.

TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2023 10:38

Good Morning Everyone

Thank you for your kind words; I’m touched, really I am 🙏 ❤️ We had an arranged appointment with the funeral director on Thursday who failed to turn up! Arranged over a week in advance too! He got his office co worker to contact me via phone to tell me he wasn’t coming later that day. Hasten to say I’ve dispersed with their services and gone elsewhere.

I’ll admit I’ve only scan read the thread but can see many of you are making great progress and seeing exciting results. Keep going!

Ill be resuming normal service after the funeral but don’t even have a date yet. I’m hoping it’s in the coming week as I’d like mum put to rest. 💔 Thank you to everyone who are keeping the thread going! 🙏

I've lost 2lbs. Although im happy with that, and know it's a very respectable loss I can't help feeling a bit disappointed. I mean, it's so hard to lose even 2lbs, yet so easy to gain it. I know I could find that 2lbs and another couple by Monday without much effort.

Anyway, I know I need to keep going.

Have a good weekend everyone

Ninjachicken · 07/01/2023 12:29

Managed not to drink any wine last night, which is a win for me, especially on a Friday!
B: toast with marmite
L: small bowl of pasta with chicken
D: not decided yet but will try to include more veg
its hard sometimes with kids as I often end up having to cook twice which I do not always have time for
i am finding this thread very motivational and am carrying on even though I am a bit under the weather. Thank you everyone and have a good weekend 😊

Cloudberries123 · 07/01/2023 15:22

@Ninjachicken that's great, well done on making a healthier choice about the wine and I'm sure you'll savour it even more when you do have it!

@Was126orbustandmaybebust good to see you again, I always enjoy reading your posts.

@TheRealHousewife continuing to think of you and hope you can lay your mum to rest soon. When my dad died it was nearly 3 weeks between death and funeral and I don't think I relaxed once in that time! Big love and hugs x

Today a truly weekendy day in terms of food and movement, and I don't feel great 😕 Haven't been able to go to the loo for one thing, due to different schedule and less fibre 😱

Breakfast - coffee and a mouthful of leftovers at 7am. Café breakfast of coffee and toastie later

Lunch - feta scrambled eggs on toast, tea, water

Dinner - tbc but will DEFINITELY be big on veg! I'm craving the colour and vitamins!

menomonster · 07/01/2023 15:29

TheRealHousewife I am sorry for your loss, make sure to look after yourself and take to grieve.
This thread has been flying - took me ages to catch up! Good to hear so much positivity and inspiration. I have been a bit busy at work this week and only managed to weigh in today rather than Wednesday, and the scales have been kind to me, I am down 3lbs since I weighed last on 27 December (although some of that was just getting over Christmas excesses I guess). This is good as I was not expecting it, I have have been eating relatively healthily this week but not been exercising, except doing some physio exercises for the knee. I am going to do some batch cooking tomorrow to make sure I get through next week without too many hitches. I will use today's weight as my starting weight. Also planning a trip to the gym tomorrow!

So,
SW: 11 stone 6lbs
CW: 11 stone 6lbs
GW: 10 stone 9 lbs (this is my first goal weight, will reassess after that).

emptythelitterbox · 07/01/2023 15:53

Really glad to have joined this thread.
Down 3lbs for the first week.
Will add in exercise this week.

buzzofthebumblebee · 07/01/2023 16:55

Some great losses already. Well done! My weight fluctuates so much day-to-day I will need to wait til WOW to see overall direction.

I've done 2 runs this week, and another planned for tomorrow. I'm following a training schedule for an event, and if it wasn't for that I wouldn't have gone out at all this week. So that's a positive?

B - all bran (I'm in same boat as you @Cloudberries123 & feeling miserable for it)
L - roast cauli & salad with some chicken
D - eating out . Will try and mitigate damage with lower-cal options

Keep up good work everyone, and sending you continued thoughts TheRealHousewife .

Cloudberries123 · 07/01/2023 20:17

Update: dinner was not big on veg. We had fish and chips.

CumbrianExile · 07/01/2023 21:32

@Cloudberries123 that's the type of thing I normally do! I hope it was enjoyable 😃

SparkleBubble · 08/01/2023 06:16

Today was an 'eat what's in the cupboards' day, so a bit boring and lacking in fruit and veg.

10am - Nespresso and protein bar
Lunch - 2x toast, one with marmite and the other with cashew butter
Snack - Hot chocolate
Dinner - baked (air fried) potato with baked beans and cheese.

Nearly got my apple watch rings closed, just need to have a little boogie before bed to close my move ring!

Is anyone else a daily weigher?
