Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

I've no idea on calories there.

HappinessDragon · 03/01/2023 19:33

Hi everyone!
First day back to work for me and WFH due to train strikes. I def get less steps in when I'm not commuting.

Up early with a big glass of thermogenic (stim), a cup of hot water with lemon and a cup of tea.
(My bathroom trips are already peeing me off! 😂)

I don't tend to have breakfast.

Midmorning, a big glass of exogenous ketones (Charged) and then a whizz on the peloton. Only a short one as am managing an injury.

Lunchtime, a bowl of quick tom yum soup - paste, boiling water, cooked chicken breast, beansprouts and skinny noodles and a strawberry protein shake.

Mid afternoon, big glass of thermogenic (non stim) and a quick walk.

Evening meal, chicken breast baked in paper with spices, 100g brown basmati rice, big portion of garlic baked cauliflower, green beans and broccoli.

I'm using salt instead of seaweed and having quite a few cups of tea but logging the skim milk.

getagriplove · 03/01/2023 19:37

Oh my word I'm glad I've found this thread!

Weighed myself this morning, and I knew I'd put on a bit, but since last summer I've put on over a stone!

I was in a really good place with my health and fitness in 2021, but 2022 did not give me the space to look after myself. I didn't realise it had got quite this bad though!

I should be fine to get back in the saddle, but I've got longer to go to get back to where I want to be so I'll need a bit of company!

getagriplove · 03/01/2023 19:41

In total I want to lose 23 pounds to get back to what I was happy with! Just checked my MFP weight log and have gained 10 pounds since mid-Nov!

Genuinely still in a bit of shock!

123ROLO · 03/01/2023 20:25

Hi @getagriplove

We seem to be in a simular situation, by having a lot of weight creep up on us in a short amount of time.

I'm kinda hoping if it came on quickly, hopefully it'll come off quick 😂

I've not weighed myself but if I compare before and after pictures from about 18months/2 years ago, and clothes I wore. I suspect I have put on 3 stone.

Day 2 has been fine. Had a few jelly beans left over that I ate which tbh I didn't want but only alternative was binning as they were left over in a Christmas tub thing I wanted rid of. So I did my human bin duties.

Should still have finished just under 1500 today

ImALittlePea · 03/01/2023 20:52

"human bin duties"

SO relatable @123ROLO 😂

Weatherwax13 · 03/01/2023 21:28

Did my Wednesday weigh in (I'm ahead of most of you time zone wise)
SW 88.8
today 86.25
So 2.55kg down. Happy with that. I know it's the old "water" thing but seeing the number go down is motivating nonetheless.
I'm struggling with 16:8. Any tips??
Lots of furniture moving over Christmas but all being restored to normal tonight so I'm going to start pilates again once I have access to my lounge.
I'm determined to keep up with this thread. Need the encouragement Grin

LilyGlobe · 03/01/2023 22:15

B - marmite on toast, 2 x babybel light, apple
L - poached egg on toast, beans, fridge raiders
D - tomato soup, handful of low fat cheese, 2 slices of bread, slice of garlic bread
S - 3 crackers, pepper sticks, cucumber sticks, dollop of seafood sauce, 2 malted milks, 2 g&t

6000 steps today and a home workout complete.

No mindless snacking today but not enough protein, will increase that tomorrow.

SingaporeSlinky · 03/01/2023 22:18

Lots of new joiners this month, welcome everyone. I was somewhat regular on these threads last year and managed to lose 1st 5lbs in about 3 months, with a holiday as motivation. I managed to keep most of it off, and kept up with the gym, but gradually went less and less, and then didn’t go at all in December. But, I didn’t cancel and as soon as I shift this virus, I will be back regularly. I have another holiday booked for Easter and so have 3 months again to get back down. I will officially weigh in tomorrow for Weigh On Wednesday but think I’m sitting at 9st 11 right now. Want to get back to my lowest of 9st 2 and lower if I can. At least I have less to shift this time.

What worked for me - I joined a gym with a friend, I lack motivation to just use the machines, so classes worked well. I used to put my workout clothes on first thing, walk the kids to school, walk to the gym and do the 9am class. I’m lucky that I’m a SAHM, and realise not everyone has the time to do that. To be honest, losing weight took a lot of headspace. Meal planning, trying new recipes, new foods, weighing myself, measuring out portions, all took up a lot of my time. But once the weight started coming off, I felt good, I looked good and getting compliments from friends and school mums was really motivating. I ended up doing 5 classes a week, and when I went in that holiday, I felt great. I’m disappointed I’ve gone back to some old habits, but I know I can do it again.

So, I did Intermittent Fasting as well as calorie counting, keeping to 1200cals. So I’d only drink water before and during the gym, then I’d have a coffee when I got home, wait for lunch, which was usually Greek yoghurt with granola, berries and seeds, then a ‘normal’ dinner. I would allow myself a treat once a week, like a nice pudding and really enjoyed it, with no guilt. Logging on MyFitnessPal was really helpful, as I found I’d been overestimating portion sizes. So although my DH found it funny when I’d weigh out my Sunday roast portions, I felt like I needed to keep myself accountable without the portions creeping up. You just need to be really honest, and if you have extra snacks or whatever, still log it, it might help you find patterns of times of day or times of the month.

Posting here really helped too, everyone was so helpful and motivating.

Good luck to everyone for the rest of the week!

greenspaces4peace · 04/01/2023 02:50

quite a few snacks made their way into my diet today sadly
however: IF, supplements, water and exercise going well.
overall food choices are much better than a week ago.

limerentidiot · 04/01/2023 03:18

I would like to join please. Approx 3 stone to lose, don’t know my exact sw as I am waiting for batteries to arrive.

I’ve realised that one of my biggest hurdles is a very irregular schedule. I’ve seen a couple of pp refer to books about systems rather than goals, which seems like something I need. Any specific titles people would recommend?

milkfromthesleepycow · 04/01/2023 06:13

WOW 300g lost
SW for 2023 67.8kg
My scales wished me a happy new year! Weird

LaurelHunter · 04/01/2023 06:34

Just contributing my Wednesday weigh in before heading off to work:

SW - 11st 1.5lbs
CW - 11st 0.75lbs
GW - 9st 10lbs

So moving in the right direction at least since my SW was New Year’s Day. Next stop under 11 stone! Thread is working well to keep me motivated as well. Thought about having something sweet after dinner last night and then I thought ‘weigh in tomorrow!’ Have a good day everyone.

Fara22 · 04/01/2023 06:35

Ok, Wednesday morning. First day of term, so my little boy goes back to school and I have some head space to get this right!

Still slightly jet lagged, which is not helping the eating 😫 but trying to get as much daylight as possible to help.

SW: 15 st 8
CW: 14 st 12
1st GW: 13st

This is not my ultimate goal weight, but it's a start! I'm using the happy scale app, which gives lots of mini goals to aim for. First one is 14 st 9.

Good luck to everyone - it's nice to be doing this with company!

melissasummerfield · 04/01/2023 07:29

Morning everyone 😀

first weigh in today - from reading everyones posts it looks like I have the biggest amount of weight to lose - eek!

SW 22st 12lb

I am focusing on 20lb interim targets as otherwise it feels completely overwhelming and unachievable !

I am calorie counting on nutracheck and focusing on closing my rings ( apple watch ) everyday which requires 30 mins of exercise, which will be walking to start of with.

I try to eat very high protein and veggie meals and I am lucky in that I WFH so can cook pretty much what I like for lunch.

Todays menu

B - protein porridge & apricots
L - left over burrata with cherry toms and crusty bread
D - home made chilli with wedges and roasted butternut squash

I also drink about 4lt of water or squash daily and a couple of cups of tea 🙂

Have a great day everyone!

HamFrancisco · 04/01/2023 07:31

Morning all, I’m not weighing today as I’ve only been going since Monday.
I’m focussing on establishing a new lifestyle a bit at a time. First thing is not to go out to the shop for sweet stuff every day to eat at my desk. I managed it yesterday!

Submariner · 04/01/2023 07:45

First Wednesday weigh in. I'm not posting regularly but I am checking this thread every day. I have just been trying to increase the number of ticks on my Daily Dozen app, following Yoga with Adriene's 30 days and going for a walk every day. Got a bit of sciatica that's slowing me up.

SW - 10st 11
CW - 10st 10.2
January GW - 10st 7
Overall GW - 9st

Cloudberries123 · 04/01/2023 07:53

Amazing and totally unwarranted loss over here of about 2 kg since I last weighed before Christmas. I guess there really must be something in that thing of having a blowout every once in a while so your body knows you're not in a famine and doesn't hold on to fat.

SW: 100.4KG (September)
Last weigh-in: 98 something
CW: 96.4kg
Mini goal: 95kg which is now genuinely close!

Sorry I didn't namecheck people last night, it was a wild one with the baby. Hope to do it at lunch ✌🏻

@melissasummerfield that sounds like a really good plan, and very sensible. Excellent work!

buzzofthebumblebee · 04/01/2023 08:55

Morning all. 1st WOW it is.

ST - 11 13
CW - 11 13
GW - 10 12

I'm pleasantly surprised my weight starts with an 11, I was sure I'd gone back up to the 12s.

But I am miffed that I was 11 12 yesterday (I weigh daily) and so have put "on" 1lb overnight. I know it's not a real 1lb, and it is due to the very salty eating-out food yesterday, plus all 3 meals contained carbs. Normally I limit to once a day. So lesson learned. Extra water today to flush it all through.

Good luck everyone else - especially new joiners.

Wafflefudge · 04/01/2023 09:17

Yesterday was goodish
Smoothie, apple
Omelette
Hot cross bun
Was supposed to be soup for dinner but dropped it on floor. Didn't have much food in house so had pasta, pesto and peas instead.

SW although was only a couple of days ago: 59.8kg
CW: 58.4kilos
Goal weight: 53kg

Brieandbeetroot · 04/01/2023 10:14

Morning all! I think I've shifted the Christmas water weight as I'm down from 151 lbs last Wednesday to 148 pounds this morning.

SW - 151 lbs
GW - 133 lbs
Today's weight - 148 lbs

I know soon I'm going to hit the wall of having lost a few pounds and wanting to "reward" myself with a treat or day off. That's a mindset I really need to work hard to acknowledge and combat to make the progress I want to.

So sorry, can't remember who replied to my previous post but love the idea of setting aside the money that would have been spent on coffees etc into another account, when you see it build up even if you don't spend it on something else, it's really motivating so I will do that.

Brieandbeetroot · 04/01/2023 10:17

Forgot to say, so far today I've only had a coffee because I had some dental work done yesterday and my face hurts too much to chew! But think there will be pasta with squash, leeks and mushroom for lunch, and homemade burger with field mushroom and potato wedges for dinner. Have a toddler and a hungry and very slim husband so it's extra important for me to continue making a wide variety of healthy balanced meals which I hope will help me focus on portion control instead of deprivation and prevent me falling into unhealthy dieting mentalities.

ndo4000 · 04/01/2023 10:21

Wednesday weigh in:
CW: 66.1kg
TW: 60kg

Been up and down this week. Have def done less snacking and trying to drink more water. Just been for a run so hoping to get under the 66kg line over the next week.
