10st plus to lose - part 2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:53

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

Well, I was on holiday last week, ate less than I usually do but caught a bug on Friday. I was curious to see how much I lost and I’ve lost 3.6kg lol.

I assume it’s likely to come back on when I get better? But not sure, does anyone know? Bit disappointed if it does, as I worked so hard not eating too much and I was skiing so lots of exercise. Then unfortunately I got ill. So I hope that hasnt ruined my week and I also know that’s where most of the weight loss came from.

anyway I hope everyone is feeling better than I do. It’s not covid I did test. And I’m feeling better than I did Friday and yesterday. So fingers crossed I’m pretty much over it. Cancelled tomorrows gym though.

WeirdPookah · 06/02/2023 11:19

It's my daughters birthday coming up and with needing to celebrate with various family members etc, it looks like pasties for breakfast and a party (with cake) at the weekend, then another fancy breakfast on her actual birthday, scones and cream and then she wants to order pizza!

😐oh my

DuckWithOneWing · 06/02/2023 20:19

Sorry I haven't been around much. I'm really struggling at the moment. I have now lost 8 stone in total because I've completely lost my appetite recently.

@fidgetcube without trying to be too graphic, your digestive system is pretty much full of food in various stages of digestion. So if you don't eat as much, it empties out and so you weigh less, but it's not actually weight loss. Then when you start eating again it will fill up again so you'll weigh more. You can also end up a bit dehydrated when you're ill, so that will also make you appear lighter. So you will probably gain at least some of it back unfortunately. Hope you get better soon.

@WeirdPookah congrats on the loss! Just try to make the best choices you can and accept that this week might not be amazing losses. Then start again next week!

WeirdPookah · 07/02/2023 19:21

Pasties??? LOL no, pastries for breakfast!!

I had the offcuts from cake yesterday while it was warm before I froze it ready to decorate. But I have done a lot of walking today and had super virtuous minestrone for dinner yesterday/lunch today.

Hottoffeesauce · 10/02/2023 08:53

Just got on the scales and lost 3 pounds this week, which I'm happy about (included a meal out and a day out) so overall, not too bad. I think I'm more excited that I'm now down into the next stone bracket! I seem to have eaten a lot of fish this week and homemade veg soup.

fidgetcube · 10/02/2023 13:24

Well, I’ve eaten a heap of shit this week but oh well, need to refocus yet again.

but had an appointment with a dietitian yesterday morning and she has referred me to an Oviva programme. So I got an email about that this morning, just waiting on them to phone me for an initial consultation appointment. Supposedly this programme gives you frequent dietitian appointments over the course if a year. So hopefully this gives me extra motivation.

Been gone for a little while as I have been poorly, put on a few lbs then lost a little bit again
Slow progress, but I should complain

SW- 17st 3lbs
CW - 12st 5lbs
GW - 10st 6lbs

WeirdPookah · 10/02/2023 14:01

I'm really quite annoyed this week, I felt I had worked really hard on eating "right", walking lots and my weight is identical to the ounce as last week.

I wonder if being so damn cold all the time impacts your body losing weight. we are not having the heating on while the children are at school or after they go to bed, it's 14'C in here right now, same as most days.

Tiddlywinkeys · 11/02/2023 14:44

Hi, I would love to join?

I started 2023 at 16.8. Flying home for Christmas 2022, I had to ask for a seatbelt extender for the first time in my life. I have always been overweight but the shock of not being able to close the belt was the biggest punch in the (massive) gut. I allowed myself to not think about it over Christmas, as I needed time to process my feelings before jumping into a fad diet amongst the most decadent time of the year.

I began my journey of new health and exercise choices on 1/1/23 and am currently weighing 15.5. I have ridden this rollercoaster before so I know that the first couple of weeks is a windfall from the change in diet and water weight (myth?).

I’m approaching this venture with kindness towards myself, setting lower and achievable goals than previous times. I am calorie counting (up to 1200kcals a day), 16:8 (I have never eaten breakfast so only change is snacking in the evening) and I’ve set a goal of 8000 steps a day. If I go over in my calories or under in my steps, I give myself a moment to think about it and then let it go. If it’s a recurring thing then I will investigate what to change to suit me better but I am learning to not throw everything out the window and continue trying. Almost 6 weeks in and I am still motivated and feeling the benefits. I stalled last week and I know that will happen from time to time but continued on and 3lbs down this week!

I want to say well done to everyone on here!

Height: 4’11
SW: 16.8
CW: 15.5
Interim GW: 13
GW: 10

ShinyPikachu · 11/02/2023 17:05

Well done to those who have lost.

Welcome @Tiddlywinkeys sounds like you've got off to a great start so far!

I had a small gain this week and been fighting off a cold so I've not been calorie counting. I'm focusing more on making decent home-cooked meals with plenty of veg so I'm less likely to snack and it's definitely working. Although I did enjoy a whole large bag of scampi and lemon Nik Naks earlier today. Blush

DH did tell me yesterday though when he was hugging me that he can tell I've lost weight, especially around my waist as he can get his arms a lot further around me now. Smile

WildImaginings · 14/02/2023 09:30

Morning everyone, hope you're all doing well. I love lemon and scampi nik naks @ShinyPikachu so I wouldn't have been able to leave the bag alone either.

I had a meal and (lots of) wine out on Friday, birthday cake on Saturday so I went over my calories on both of those days. I tried to look at those days in isolation though and not let them put me off track for the rest of the week.

Starting weight: 20.9
Current weight: 19 stone 6.5
Goal weight: 15
Interim goal weight (by 20/03): 18.7

DuckWithOneWing · 16/02/2023 21:26

OMG I'd forgotten they now do the scampi and lemon nik naks in big bags! I want some but haven't seen them for sale anywhere.

ShinyPikachu · 16/02/2023 21:44

It's only the smaller local shops (Premier and Costcutter type ones) I've found them in so far.

I have to admit that bag hasn't been my only one now. DH even got me a bag as part of my Valentine's gift. He's definitely a keeper. Grin

Morning all! A mixed week for me. Lost 2 pounds but I know it could have been more if I'd been a bit stronger so am a bit cross with myself. Am seeing a pattern that when I'm stressed or tired or worried, I reach for the sugar. Generally I eat a good diet but I swear, sugar is like an addictive drug for me. I crave it and adore it. I think I use it as a reward and a punishment- how sad am I. Anyway, 3 pounds under 20 stones now and I never want to see a 20 on the scales again! My back is a little less painful now as are my joints so this is spurring me on. I want to be able to travel more, fly without a seatbelt extender and not squeeze down the plane aisle! I want to start going to the gym next week so will look forward to that - not! Confused

ShinyPikachu · 17/02/2023 11:40

Well done @Hottoffeesauce - going down that big number feels amazing!

I'm noticing a difference in my back pain when I'm walking and I'm able to walk further without needing to rest.

I've started pushing myself to go the longer route when I walk to the local shops. It's only an extra minute or two but it's extra steps and I can hit 6 pokestops on Pokémon Go if I go that way, I only reach one going the faster way. PoGo used to get me out walking so much more at first so I'm going to try and get out more with it as I'll push myself to go a slightly longer route on any walk if it means I get more pokestops. Ooh, I haven't heard about this app @ShinyPikachu so I will have a look. I really need to get moving a lot more but have bad arthritis so it can get too painful if I do too much. I'm hoping as the weight comes off, I can do a bit more with every pound of weight I lose. I'm trying to do more tidying/cleaning/gardening etc so that I move more and feel happy with the results I can see and appreciate. My goals this weekend are to clear up and tidy up my bedroom (it is a tip and filled up with everyone else's junk!), clear the landing clutter, radically thin-out and tidy up the linen cupboard and tidy up the home office too. I'm not looking forward to doing it all but the end results will be great so this is my motivation!

DuckWithOneWing · 17/02/2023 21:12

I used to play Pokémon but now I play Pikmin Bloom. It's a similar idea (and by the same people) but you collect Pikmin and you different ones in different locations - if you're by the beach you get beach pikmin, or if you're near a cinema you get cinema pikmin. You also can plant flowers and fight mushrooms.

@Hottoffeesauce under 20 is a huge milestone! You should be very proud.

I've done loads of walking today and my ankle is painful but I'm not as exhausted as I would have been before I lost weight. My ankle hasn't been too bad recently, but it's been injured for so long I've started a new treatment and it's one of those where it gets worse before it gets better. But hopefully in a few weeks it will finally be healed!

FatLadyTriesAgain · 18/02/2023 05:21

Hello. I'd like to join please. A doctor would tell me to lose ten stone. Even if that proves impossible, my goals are to lose one pound every three or four days, then re-assess food and exercise as I become more mobile and present.

Recently I've been focussing on cutting back on sugar. My head feels clearer and my arthritis is a little improved. I'm more even-tempered and less likely to get drowsy in the afternoon. I have a more positive attitude towards the boring tasks in life.

I'm not very good at chatting. Will it be okay to start by just reporting daily?

Sunshineandrainbow · 18/02/2023 09:45

Morning all

I am back having been inspired by all your pounds gone forever.

I have been completely off the rails with emotional eating/binging and it has to stop.
I still don't really know what diet suits me but will do calorie counting for now.

I am still in bed but will weight when I get up.

DuckWithOneWing · 18/02/2023 10:54

Hi @FatLadyTriesAgain welcome! You can post here as much or as little as you like. Most of us don't post daily. You can tell us all about what went well for you, any recipes you tried and liked, any weight loss and any NSVs (non-scale victories - good things that happened because you lost weight, but that weren't weight itself. So recently I fit into a size M dress and that was definitely an NSV). It's up to you how much you want to post or chat or tell us.

Welcome back @Sunshineandrainbow we've been saving your spot! What kind of things do you like to eat? I feel that calorie counting is great (it's what I've used so far) but it seems to work best if you eat a lot of packaged stuff because weighing everything as you're cooking is really tedious. I use an app called Lose It but there has been discussion about others if you scroll back a bit.
Slimming World gets a lot of bad press, but the heart of it is to just eat a lot of fruit, vegetables and lean meat. It works best if you do a lot of cooking from scratch because pre-packaged food and even jars of sauce tend to be high in "syns" which are the bits you need to limit.
A lot of people like low carb in its various forms. I tried it once, many years ago, and lasted 2 weeks. I like crisps too much. But if you don't eat many carbs then this could work for you.
There's even things like intermittent fasting or 5:2 where you limit calories in a certain time period. I feel like if you have problems with binging this might not work for you, as you might find you're just eating more during the eating periods and so not having the overall effect of lowering calories.

Sunshineandrainbow · 18/02/2023 12:04

Thanks @DuckWithOneWing for keeping my space warm.
I tend to eat vegetarian food, don't have breakfast in the week. Lunch at work tends to be humous and cut veg. Sometimes a yogurt.
Worse time is when I get home from work when I can demolish 1000's of calories within minutes. I need to control this. I see you like crisps too. Any recommendations for satisfying low calories ones. When my head was in the game I was having some crackerbread with smidge of soft cheese and this would hit the spot so I need to get some of them.

Weighed and 18. 6 so still 3lbs below start weight!

Hi @FatLadyTriesAgain. I'm a newbie here and also have arthritis. I have noticed that my arthritis seems to 'flare up' and be more painful when I have too much sugar. Have you thought about testing your blood sugar levels? I was falling asleep in the afternoons so the GP sent me for a blood test and diagnosed type 2 diabetes. I've found that by cutting back on carbs and sugar, my arthritis is less painful, I'm losing weight and no so foggy- headed and sleepy. I do adore sugar though and fall off the wagon more than I want/ought to.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 18/02/2023 21:46

Hello everyone.

On 7th January 2023 I weighed 20st 1lb.

I weighed myself today (well, I weigh myself every Saturday anyway) and I've lost 3.25lbs since last week. Go me !

Current weight 19st 4.25lbs

Hottoffeesauce · 19/02/2023 15:45

Hi @ToffeeNotCoffee. Well done losing - it gives you such a good feeling, doesn't it? I try not to look at how much I have to lose as that just seems impossible to me but I focus on just losing. I've made a chart where I colour in every pound lost and that works for me.

WeirdPookah · 19/02/2023 19:34

Right. School starts back tomorrow, birthday cake is all gone, cream and scones all gone. (still christmas food kicking about)

I wish this wasn't so hard. I know the right things to do, but it's so exhausting having to make better choices all the time.
