10st plus to lose - part 2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:53

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

@IncompleteSenten 11 stone since Feb is amazing! I'm 5 stone since April. I like to mix up my stones and kg. Start was 118kg, target is 63.

IncompleteSenten · 28/10/2023 12:00

Do any of you find it harder during winter when you're craving stodgy, warm, comfort foods?

I don't cope well at this time of year so I'm focusing on not adding weight back like I have done every winter as long as I can remember so losing even a pound is a win!

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 28/10/2023 15:07

well done @IncompleteSenten you're doing a great job

zaffa · 28/10/2023 22:38

Hi everyone - can I join? I've got loads to lose and it's so disheartening. I'm currently 20st 10, the heaviest I've been in years. I don't know what to do - how is everyone else doing it? Is it with nhs support / diet clubs / pills? I keep trying WW as I've had huge success before but I can't get over the initial hurdles and end up eating rubbish all the time.

ShinyPikachu · 28/10/2023 22:47

Welcome @zaffa

A lot of us are doing different methods, whatever works best for you and there's no judgment here. I think it's important to try different things to see what you get on best with.

I've been going between calorie counting and intermittent fasting depending on how busy I am (it's a lot easier to count time than calories when I've got a lot on). I used to do SW but I left when lockdown happened and I realised I liked doing it myself and I saved a bit of money that way too.

Hi zaffa. I'm doing low carb and low calorie. I have a magnetic whiteboard on my fridge and write those figures for everything I eat and drink in a day so I can see the total as the day progresses. Each morning I wipe the board clear and start again. I'm also trying to be more active, just pottering around the house.

So just plain old eat less move more I guess.

chalkyc2 · 29/10/2023 07:15

Hey @zaffa - I started at 18.5 stone. Cut out all carbs (pasta/rice/bread), sugar and booze. I followed the Fast 800 initially and still follow the basic principles. Seems to work for me. I've increased peloton workouts and started running to get my body moving.

Good luck - join us!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 29/10/2023 07:26

I'm using WW but not weighing or counting stuff. I just use the daily meal plans. The change for me comes from stopping taking antihistamines and getting treatment for sleep apnea, both of which drive an overwhelming hunger in me. Sort them and the hunger disappears and I naturally eat better.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 29/10/2023 11:01

hi @zaffa

For me the best way is

  1. calculate your total daily energy expenditure somewhere like this https://tdeecalculator.net/
  2. decide how fast you want to lose weight

500 calories deficit a day = 0.5kg a week
750 calories deficit a day 0.75kg a week
1000 calories deficit a day 1.0kg a week

That gives you your target calories per day, I have to keep a food diary and track calories as I find that I can't really lose weight unless I calorie count but other people totally can.

I'm also doing intermittent fasting 16:8 with a window of eating between 12pm - 8pm, low sugar, low carb.

lost a fair bit now but a long way to go.

TDEE Calculator: Learn Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure

Use the TDEE calculator to learn your Total Daily Energy Expenditure, a measure of how many calories you burn per day. This calculator displays MUCH more!

Can I join. I need to lose weight, reduce blood pressure and cholesterol. Started at 140 kg, currently 136kg. My healthy range is 55 to 70 kg, so need to halve my weight. Am 45 and perimenopausal.
Trying Noom, it's been tough but sticking to it. By the way if anyone is going on Noom, join up then try and cancel your membership saying you can't afford it they will then come up with better terms and prices.
Next step will be to incorporate some exercise/ walking.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 04/11/2023 12:46

0.6 kg for me. Still chip, chip, chipping away.

chalkyc2 · 04/11/2023 14:27

After weeks previously on a plateau I seem to be on a bit of a roll and just over a kg off this week. And a NSV - I played in my first hockey match today since my DS was born....he is 14! I would never have done this last year I would have felt too embarrassed. Exercise is great and I'm so thankful that it's opening up to me now 🙂

qazxc · 08/11/2023 16:54

My scales broke yesterday. Got a new set and and am 15kg lighter on them, so previous scales were wildly inaccurate.
So "only" 50kg to lose.
Started walking more ( only exercise I can manage at the moment). Does anyone have any podcasts they would recommend?

peonym · 08/11/2023 20:30

Hi all!

Hope everyone doing well, really enjoying reading the updates. November is a hard month for weight loss 😭

I am still pregnant, have my first scan next week so hoping all is well. I've been pretty sick and a helpful side effect is that I've lost a few lbs, but trying currently to get in anything I can (although I know baby is a parasite lol). Really worried the midwives will judge me at my booking in appointment. Anyway, what can we do!

hope everyone's week going well!

Checking in a day early as I'm away this weekend. 1 kg (2 lb) loss for me this weekend. So I am now below 120 kg. I'm well chuffed as I've been ill all week and eating lots of quick rubbish. I was expecting to gain a kilo or two.

SW 140 kg
CW 119.3 kg

qazxc · 10/11/2023 08:52

Sw 140 but that was on old scales so probably more like 126kg.
CW 121kg
Coming off slowly, bit of a plateau at the moment but am sticking to healthy eating and trying to move more.
Starting to feel lighter and more able, I don't know if it's placebo but I will take it.
Still nervous about signing up to gym, maybe next month when I feel more confident.

Sunshineandrainbow · 11/11/2023 08:19

@chalkyc2 the hockey sounds fab. I used to love team sport it's much more fun than doing something on your own, but I couldn't do it now. Or maybe that's just an excuse!

Haven't weighed for a few weeks as feel like I have gains and if I have that sends me into a sod it stage. Will have a good week and weigh next Saturday.

ShinyPikachu · 13/11/2023 11:59

Sorry I haven't been around for a couple of weeks. We had a family emergency so I was away from home so couldn't weigh in, although was obviously busy anyway. Things are thankfully ok now and we got home this weekend so today is my first weigh in for a while.

I'm down to 19st 2lb so lost a few pounds since my last weigh in but probably more through stress than healthy eating. Hopefully I don't put it on again now I'm back at home.

Sorry to hear that. Glad things have improved.

I see I'm not the only one struggling. This time of year is HARD! I just want to eat carbs and hibernate.

I've only lost 2lb since I last posted on Oct 28th. Every ounce appears to be clinging to my bones, yelling about suing for illegal eviction or something. I can practically hear the chant of hell no we won't go.

I'm back after a long absence and back where I started. Annoyed with myself - I've had a few holidays and been eating ridiculously in between them. It's like a compulsion.

My fitness pal re-downloaded and starting from scratch, weighed myself this week.
SW 20.09
GW 15 stone

I will weigh later this week/start of next week and then think of an interim goal.

I am going to make a point of checking in and reading the messages here every day.

Dinner tonight will be (nice) instant ramen with soft boiled egg and added baby corn.

Sorry, Weight loss chat lurker and occasional poster here. Have I got it right that you've lost around 11st? That's amazing! You've done really well! I've lost 3st and finding it hard enough. Good for you and well done!
Keep going everyone! 👌

chalkyc2 · 16/11/2023 07:33

Hey...Thursday check in for me. Another kg off this week so trucking along. I really want to be under 80kg before Xmas which should be achievable - it will take me into the 'overweight' category and tick off 6 stone loss. So - GOALS!!

I think it was on another thread and I've seen it before - treating weight loss like you would treat any other addiction. But obviously you have to eat!! I'm trying to think about how I'm approaching Christmas - my philosophy mostly until now has been to hold strong!

Anyway - keep going everyone!

Yes, I have. Thanks. 11stone 3 pounds so far since Feb this year.

Well done on your 3
It's bloody hard isn't it? I'm struggling quite a bit at the moment.

Since Feb? That's amazing! It's more amazing as it is bloody hard! I'm just hoping to drop 3 more pounds, then I'm going to maintain till after Christmas, give myself a little break.

WildImaginings · 16/11/2023 13:48

@IncompleteSenten that is absolutely amazing, well done!!
