10st plus to lose - part 2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:53

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

Hey @Sunshineandrainbow - thank you!! So I've been following generally the Fast 800 principles. Basically no sugar, no carbs, no snacking. Save for a recent 2 week hols I've kept to it. You're only supposed to do 800 per day for up to 12 weeks but I've continued with the main principles and still use the recipes. I probably didn't often go as low as 800 if you include a few cups of tea etc anyway. That's been my only cheat really. I started on 20 April with a lightbulb weigh in, so nearing 5 months in.

I need to keep to it now - as someone else has said I've got to this point before and not kept going. My BMI is still 33 so I have to plod on!

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 14/09/2023 21:51

thanks @PreesHeath I think that sounds really sensible with this much to lose is important to think of it as a marathon not a sprint I think.

Readinstead · 14/09/2023 22:28

Congratulations on some great losses and especially to chalkyc2 - 4 stones is fantastic.

End of week 11

SW: 108.3kg (238.8lbs)
CW: 93kg (205.1lbs)
Loss this week: 0.6kg
Loss to date: 15.3kg

Joining in again. My weight loss is much slower now than it was a few years ago, but it's consistent and I never feel hungry. Sometimes it's weird realising that tv/screens and food were my main sources of entertainment, always together.

I started February at 122 kg and now I'm 114 kg. I'm too upset by the sight of it in stones and lbs. Hope this is okay. My first target is to get to under 110 kg by the end of the year. Maybe my weight loss will speed up a little now that I'm more confident with the loss I've already achieved.

Total lost 8kg.

chalkyc2 · 15/09/2023 10:09

Welcome back @FatLadyTriesAgain - I agree re the kg/stone issue. I am kg all the way. Apart from trying to set milestones of losing a stone. Keep it flexible...😀

Here to chat anyway. I started at 118kg.

Hello ,Thankyou for the welcome .
I am due to have WLS in a year on nhs …I’m desperately trying to not have it and do this myself..but I am stuck in cycle I can’t get out of
so I dropped my calories low to 800 a day ,lost about 9 lbs ..
but then the calories started creeping up and up and up,and now I’ve no idea what I’m eating, calories wise each day .
so then I start ordering weight loss shakes ,and I promise myself tomorrow I will start the weight loss shakes back on 800 calories,so today I eat plenty ,in preparation for tomorrow……but tomorrow never comes and I’ve 5 bags of weight loss shakes ,and every mouthful I eat each morning now feels like an instant failure…meanwhile the clock ticks ,and the weight loss surgery gets nearer …..I was approved in March ,and this has been a vicious circle since March …I’m stuck 😢

IncompleteSenten · 16/09/2023 07:14

How's everyone doing?
I've hit a bit of a blip and not lost much. Does anyone have times where the scales barely move even though you're not doing anything differently?

SW (Feb 23) 33st 6lb
CW 22st 11lb
TW bust and backside sharing a postcode.

It's scarily easy to lose control but you can get it back. I've got a magnetic whiteboard on my fridge and I write down every carb and calorie I consume on it. It really helps to keep track and the fact it's there in the kitchen means it hits you in the face and keeps you motivated. Maybe you could try that?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 16/09/2023 08:29

I stayed the same this week. I'm a bit disappointed but I know I've eaten properly and done everything right so it is what it is.

My stumbling block is sleep. I eat badly when I'm tired and I'm a fool for not going to bed in good time. It's not helped by having sleep apnea. I have to work hard to maintain good sleep hygiene. And ditch the antihistamines!

SW 140 kg
CW 123.5 kg

MrTiddlesTheCat · 16/09/2023 08:31

PS. I've reached my first goal! I can now cook dinner without having to sit down because of backache.

Sunshineandrainbow · 16/09/2023 10:24

@Autumflower
I could be you, your story is so similar. Apart from the wls as my Gp doesn't think I qualify. Have thought about going abroad but too scared to.

I also have bags full of weight loss shakes, protein shakes, weight loss pills, all probably well out of date but they were expensive so I keep hold of them just so they can get further out of date!
I also do the diet starts tomorrow so I better eat everything I love today in vast quantities because I will never get to have it again. But then tomorrow doesn't come and I do it all again.
I need to break this mindset as its destroying me.

I have just weighed after holiday and gained 3lbs :(

Weight - 18.6
GOAL below 15 at the moment.

It’s awful isn’t it ..I’m so lost and frustrated with myself.I feel a failure because I can’t get a hold on y eating …I had bulimia for most of my adult life ,and I only managed to stop that about 5 years ago …it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do …but still food has this massive grip on me ,it’s like being a drug addict.
doesn’t everyone put weight on ,on holiday..change in food and routine

That’s an interesting thought ..a white board in the kitchen.
live got the NHS app ,and loose it app.
but I just faff with it

IncompleteSenten · 16/09/2023 12:38

It's the only thing that's worked for me re tracking. It's right there in your face whereas it's all too easy to say to yourself I'll log X on the app later... then not do it. My whiteboard comes with pens that also stick to the fridge so I've no excuse.

I find that knowing I'll be writing it on the board where the whole family will see it really makes me question whether I'm that bothered about that big slice of cheese. 😁

chalkyc2 · 16/09/2023 18:40

I've always found unless your head is in it losing weight is never successful. The only times I've lost weight I've been full on steely committed. What I don't know is how you get into that mode!

Then - I find I have to be very rule driven and all or nothing. At the moment I am really rotating a few meals. I have the same thing for breakfast every day. Lunch is salad or leftovers. Dinner is protein and veg. No snacks, no booze, no sugar, no bread/pasta/rice. I'm not enjoying this but I am determined. I realise many find this an off putting approach!

What I have yet to work out, clearly, is how to keep the weight off. I'm beginning to realise it's probably mostly eating as above, for life. 😢😢😢

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 17/09/2023 12:24

For me the most effective thing is planning. Although I'm in full agreement with people who say it's all about the mindset.

I currently have a plan of what we'll have for dinner each night of the week and make a plan for the day of what I'll eat when. Then I just edit the food diary if I change the plan a little on the hoof.

doing it on my laptop means there's a lot of copy and paste from previous days rather than having to keep working it out from scratch each day.

Sunshineandrainbow · 17/09/2023 12:37

I struggle with protein as don't really like meat. I need to find some higher protein alternatives.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 17/09/2023 13:33

For me, there's a switch somewhere in my head. When it's switched one way I have absolutely no issue eating properly and losing weight. There's no effort involved at all. When it flips the other way I am hungry all the time and cannot control what I eat at all. I've identified some of the things that flip the switch, sleeping, allergy medicine, certain foods. But I don't know what all of them are.

Yesterday was awful and I ate sweets all day. I don't want them but I can't stop myself. Put on a kilo in 1 day which will take a week a lose. Seems I can put it on far faster than I can lose it. But today the switch is back in the right position.

Autumflower · 17/09/2023 15:51

When I got the approval for WLS ,I went all out stress mode and put a stone on through bingeing .
I thought carrot and stick approach might help me get my act in to gear ,but all it’s done I’d give me an extra stone to loose.
homelife is not helping me
for no fault of my own I’m housebound for 90% of the day ..I’m just eating because I’m unhappy,it’s all a vicious circle..
im absolutely terrified of hospitals and consultants operations ect..
im about to be assessed for autism and adhd ..but I keep thinking I wouldn’t be having any problems if I wasn’t fat ..I don’t know what came first ,fat or unhappy..but they are feeding each other .

ShinyPikachu · 20/09/2023 20:32

I'm back again. I had such a massive gain after I recovered from my stomach bug I needed a bit of time to myself. I meant to come back on Monday but it's been a busy week.

I lost around 5lb this week. I had gained a lot more than that though so not quite where I was but I will hopefully get back there soon.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

I have not been in very good control with food.
Wondering about trying a meal replacement shake for lunch or maybe fruit and yogurt.

Today will be a good day!

Sunshineandrainbow · 21/09/2023 08:24

You will get there @ShinyPikachu you have before and you can do it again.

chalkyc2 · 21/09/2023 08:55

Hey everyone! Still hanging on here and the scales are moving but oh so slowly. 0.8kg this week. I've been super consistent with food and exercise too!! Maybe this is how it goes when you're a way in - I've lost 27kg and have 26kg to target. Still a mountain. I need to lose a kg a week to hit my self enforced ski trip deadline (and beyond that) so I'm impatient. Maybe a kg a week is too ambitious.

@ShinyPikachu I'm sure you'll stabilise quickly -unfortunate to be sick I feel like I can only do this when I'm full health!!

Let's keep going!

PreesHeath · 21/09/2023 09:28

Must be something in the air - am having a terrible few (3) days too. Have completely fallen off the sugar wagon. It's like a switch has flipped. Terrified of slipping back - I need to take you all as inspiration to stop the downward spiral now. Weird thing is that sugar was never my poison - it was always booze, bread and cheese. I've steered clear of those, but have been demolishing biscuits and chocolate instead.😟Last weigh in I lost a pound - this week is bound to be a gain.

DuckWithOneWing · 21/09/2023 10:13

Hi again! Hope you don't mind me coming back. I've recently started a new job which means I'm away from home a lot, and when I went back recently I realised I've gained about 2 stone. And I saw on another thread that it's 14 weeks till Christmas. So this week I've decided to get back on it, and I've stayed under my calories for 3 days in a row!

Hope this week is going ok @ShinyPikachu.
