10st plus to lose - part 2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:53

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

Just spent a wonderful 40 mins reading through all the comments - I love this supportive thread! I would love to join if you don't mind!

I'm in early 30s with a toddler and have always been fit and healthy until a traumatic event in my mid twenties. I went from around 11 stone to now 18,4. I did manage to get down to 14st for my first pregnancy, and felt wonderful. But postpartum was a witch and here I am, heavier than ever. I'm maybe slightly morbid about the whole thing - death is almost constantly on my mind as I feel like I'm just a ticking time bomb. Anyway, enough of the sadness - I am determined to lose the weight and get back to the "good old days". I have found that I really need a heavy kick start so going to do a very low cal diet for 6 weeks and then slowly increase it a little so I can maintain.

So impressed with all the losses so far and even more so, the accountability and support. Looking forward to contributing to this lovely group!

Welcome... How did day one go?

Peony2021 · 25/07/2023 21:10

Thanks sunshineandrainbow! Day 1 went ok but isn't it always the case that the later weeks are worse! Hopefully the momentum will keep me going until at least the weekend! I always find I'm greet mid week and then Friday evening hits.... how are you getting on?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 27/07/2023 08:44

Can I join you?

I've been extremely overweight since my mid 20's. I was told I had depression and anxiety as I was always so tired and constantly eating. Eventually also diagnosed with an eating disorder due to eating until I was sick. I've had so much therapy and every medication under the sun but nothing helped. I weight 22 stone 11 lbs.

5 years ago I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I was transformed by treatment. The 'depression and anxiety' disappeared over night. The hunger disappear and the weight started falling off me. A year later I was down to around 17 stone.

Sadly it then went wrong. The tiredness and hunger returned and my weight started going up again. The sleep clinic checked everything and could explain it. I've spent the last few years hovering around 20 stone.

A few weeks ago my allergies were playing up and I had a review of my prescription. It suddenly dawned on me that the change in tiredness and eating coincided roughly with starting taking antihistamines. Surely it couldn't be something that simple? So I stopped taking them. And I haven't had that overwhelming hunger since.

I'm so hopeful that I've finally cracked it but also terrified that it's just my body temporarily trolling me.

I had a long post mostly completed including welcomes to Peony2021 and MrTiddlesTheCat but it disappeared whilst I was sorting out something for my dgc - but not one of them touched my phone at all, ever!
As I can't face typing it all again, welcome Peony2021 and MrTiddlesTheCat, I look forward to hearing about your losses!

Weigh in end of week 4:

SW - 108.3kg (238.8lbs)
CW - 99.9kg (220.3lbs)
Loss this week - 1.2kg
Loss to date - 8.4kg

I have just dipped under 100kg today (yay) but to hit target of 20lbs loss to reach 219lbs I need a further 0.7kg. This switching between kgs and stones/lbs is not an exact science - for me anyway!
I will work out a couple of new mini targets later today.

chalkyc2 · 27/07/2023 11:51

Hello all - I'm still here and still going but have seemed to reached a hideous 'plateau'!! I've not cheated at all but have hovered around the same weight for nearly 2 weeks now and I'm angry!! I'm going to up the exercise (2 days running on the peloton!) but god - if this is what I have to eat just to maintain I'm going to be miserable!!

Anyway - a smidge off 3 stone lost since Easter. 5.5 stone to go!

I keep thinking - I'm doing well - I look better! And then I catch my reflection and get a reality check... No one has really noticed either which is a bit dispiriting! Oh well - onwards and downwards 🤞

MrTiddlesTheCat · 27/07/2023 11:57

@Readinstead I also use kgs and get confused converting to stones.

My mini targets are related to activity rather than weight loss. Today I managed to cut my own toenails as there wasn't a bloated, painful to bend, stomach in the way. I have to stand and do this in a 'touch your toes' way as I can't rotate my hips to bring my foot up. I'm quite chuffed with myself.

My next target is to be able to stand and make dinner without my back hurting. I can already do it without needing to sit down. A few more kilos and I'll be able to do it pain free.

They haven't noticed 3 stone weight loss? 😲

You've done so well. You should catch your reflection and be amazed at what you see.

chalkyc2 · 27/07/2023 12:22

No one has really said anything!! And then I'm quite relieved because admitting I've lost 3 stone, 5.5 to go makes people astounded. And I feel ashamed as it basically gives away the whole 18.5 stone awful reality of Easter time me. No one believed me when I said I need to lose the weight of an entire person!!

My clothes are looser. A couple of notches on my belt. I've bought a size down in jeans. But they're not a crazy amount looser!

And also - I don't really want people to say oh you look great - because that means I looked shit before! I take a lot of care with my clothes and appearance whatever size I am so I really hope I didn't look that terrible!

Peony2021 · 27/07/2023 22:05

Thanks so much for the lovely welcomes! Chalky that's amazing you have reached 3 stone down, you must feel a huge difference in yourself!

I love the idea of mini goals, I think my next one might be enjoying a 45 min walk instead of panting through the entire thing!

Weigh day tomorrow (Friday). I was at a work event this evening and had 2 slices of pizza and a glass of Prosecco - woopsies but we need to live a little! Will report back in morning...

PlumpAndGrump · 27/07/2023 23:05

Hi all, I'll join if that's okay.

Finally realised the key to improving my mental health is losing this weight. Started again yesterday.

I lost 7st in 2019 calorie counting and have gained every pound back and am the exact same weight. I'm so angry with myself but also know I can do this.

Sw 20st 4lbs

PreesHeath · 28/07/2023 07:09

Welcome. Been there too @PlumpAndGrump I share your self directed anger, and determination that this time will be different. Long term, letting go of the anger is important for mental health, but in the short term it can be a powerful motivator (or that’s what I tell myself, anyway!)

So much of my self worth and mental well-being is tied up with my weight. Finding sticking to my current programme fine food wise, exercise is more of a struggle but I have been sticking to it. So still a long way to go, but progress which is good. I’m dreading the inevitable plateaux - the rational part of me knows that they are normal and will pass, the emotional part of me will spiral rapidly down and that and tiredness are the two factors which are most likely to send me off the rails.

Peony2021 · 28/07/2023 08:35

@PreesHeath you're so right about the dreaded plateau. It's easier to keep going when the scales cooperate but when they stop I feel vulnerable to falling off the wagon! I've told myself that at the first sight of plateau I'm going to start couch to 5k (again). I used to jog for fun (seems like an alien concept now!) and would love to get back into it. It won't be pretty.... but it will be a start.

First thing's first though, weigh in:
SW: 18,4
CW:18,0
GW: 10,6

Happy Friday all - I hope my motivation doesn't leave me this weekend!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 29/07/2023 06:59

I lost 1 kg this week, around 2 lbs.

PreesHeath · 29/07/2023 09:18

Well done @MrTiddlesTheCat !

PlumpAndGrump · 29/07/2023 11:21

@PreesHeath thank you. It's nice to know others have the same feelings sometimes. I am frustrated with myself but the truth of it is I used lockdown, a pregnancy and then having a new baby as an excuse. She's 2 now 🤦🏻‍♀️

I am fairly active day to day and average around 8000 steps a day without trying due to 3 young children. Sometimes I will actually go for a long walk as well and it can be more so I'm aiming for 10000 a day but I eat so much. Sometimes more than my husband who is 6 foot 4 and I definitely secret eat for comfort.

I have stuck to my calories so far I'm
on day 4.
Does anyone have any good dinner ideas or recipes they use specifically when calorie counting? I like the slimming world orange chicken recipe and still make things like spag Bol etc and just have a smaller portion or salad at the side.

PlumpAndGrump · 29/07/2023 22:08

Just checking in at the end of today.

Ending on 1800 calories which I'm happy with.
Breakfast - porridge with some honey
Lunch - mixed bean burrito with low fat cheese
Dinner - chicken and veg curry with rice

Had a caramel wafer after dinner and 2 rich tea biscuits during the day.

We had a busy day today and took the kids to soft play where we got them their dinner. It was so tempting but I just had a Coke Zero. Happy with myself for that as usually I would get a meal, polish off the kids leftovers and take a cake home 😳
I wasn't sure I would get to make my lunch or dinner today due to time but I did. I prefer cooking my own food as I can track easier what's in it.

I've used up all my dinner ideas though so need to think of something for tomorrow.

Hope everyone has had a good day on track

Sunshineandrainbow · 30/07/2023 09:59

@Peony2021 I am the same with the weekends and I need to change it. I eat mindlessly without the structure of work. Going on holiday in 5 weeks and now starting the dread of the seatbelt fitting.

@PlumpAndGrump I bought stuff to make a bean chilli last weekend and I didn't make it, going to do it today thanks for the reminder. Sounds like you had a great day.

This week going forward I am going to track everything and walk in my lunch break at least three times.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 31/07/2023 19:37

My target this week is to get to weigh in day (Saturday) without having stood on the scales every 5 minutes. I've resisted today but honestly giving up smoking was easier.

ShinyPikachu · 31/07/2023 20:07

I forgot today was Monday so I haven't weighed in, I usually do it first thing before I get dressed and before I eat or drink anything so just going to weigh in tomorrow instead of trying it now I've eaten out a lot this week and had takeaways/chocolate because of my period so I'm not expecting a good week but fingers crossed.

Well done keeping on, everyone.

I have weighed in today, and am very pleased with a 4 lb loss following a slow patch (probably catching up with myself).

SW 20 st 2
CW 16 st 13
mini GW1 16 st 10 (BMI <40)
GW 10 st 6 (BMI 25)

Holiday coming up in a couple of weeks so let’s hope I can stay on track until then and perhaps even get my BMI below 40.

Readinstead · 01/08/2023 09:55

Hello all, I got (cautiously) excited on Sunday as the scales showed a 0.8kg (1.76lb)loss. I was subsequently very sensible when eating out later that day and kept to my calorie count for the day. Monday 0.7kg gain, which was to be expected but still slightly disappointing. Overall a nett 0.1kg loss and a further small loss today.
My goal for the month is to lose 8lbs which will mean a total 2 stones loss.

ShinyPikachu · 01/08/2023 10:43

Massive gain for me this week. I wasn't expecting a loss but I gained more than I was hoping so a little down because of that.

I have my smear this week and I'm really not looking forward to the BP check they always do as I guarantee it'll be a little too high (it's low to normal at home and it's always much higher at the doctor's) and I'll get the twenty questions about my weight as well.

Peony2021 · 01/08/2023 12:39

Well done on the loss @PreesHeath

Hope everyone doing ok. I had a bit of a blip yesterday after a really good weekend and went all out on a steak dinner, mars ice cream and jelly babies... hoping to reduce damage today!

Has anyone any nice easy lunch ideas they could recommend? My poor air fryer is sick of watching me make bagel thin pizzas lol.

Going to weigh in on Friday, still feeling overall motivated but it's hard during summer when everyone tends to relax and drink a little more!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 01/08/2023 12:51

My lunch is always dinner from the night before reheated. I'm lazy so always cook enough for both meals.
