10st plus to lose - part 2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:53

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

It helps that I'm doing this with a good friend and we're pushing each other through it 😊

BoxerMam · 11/03/2023 14:45

Hi everyone, hope it's OK to join!
I've really struggled with my weight and I'm at my heaviest now after having 4 kids. I really need somewhere I can hold myself accountable! Reading this thread has been inspirational. I think I'm going to post every day what I have eaten.

Start weight today - 16 stone 3
Goal weight - 11stone 6

Breakfast - Yoghurt and Banana
Lunch - leek and potato soup
Snacks - babybel light, apple
Dinner will be sweet and sour chicken with brown rice and green beans

DuckWithOneWing · 11/03/2023 22:19

Hi @BoxerMam! Have you tried melting your babybel in the microwave for about 20 seconds? It's amazing. I highly recommend it.

DuckWithOneWing · 12/03/2023 10:08

Last night I couldn't sleep, so I ended up searching for exercise classes - and found a zumba class near my house! I used to do zumba years ago and loved it, so I've booked to go this week. I'm trying not to get too excited because zumba is one of those things that varies massively so I could end up hating it. But I'm hoping it's great because it's in the most convenient location possible on the most convenient night of the week, so it seems like a sign.

FatLadyTriesAgain · 12/03/2023 17:22

So much for getting on track today. I've been ravenously hungry all day. Ordered lovely soft white bread and houmous from JustEat, and feel more human now.

Will weigh tomorrow to see whether the cold and the off-plan food and drink have had much of an effect.

WeirdPookah · 13/03/2023 11:50

Well, I enjoyed our takeaway and I am feeling confident about following my plan again today.

@BoxerMam sharing our food here is a great way to be accountable, I think it's a great idea.

B: Black bean burrito
L: Eggs with mushrooms and ratatouille
D: 50/50 cauliflower/potato mash with German style green lentils.

fidgetcube · 13/03/2023 12:20

I lose 600g this week. Woo.

Stepcount · 13/03/2023 13:13

Hi, I would like to join if possible? I have been lurking on a different thread having lost 21lbs before Christmas. Lovely people but most are super active and weigh 10st something and want to lose a few pounds.
Since New Year I haven’t dieted and have regained more than half a stone. I need to stop this and get back onto a far more sensible regime.
Ultimately I would like to lose around 4st but 2st would take me back to my pre- pandemic weight. I have never been slim or even close. I overeat through boredom or reward.
I found eating between 12-8pm worked best and a balance between lower carb/calorie counting but definitely not obsessively. Too restrictive and I just can’t sustain it. I’m 56 and not hugely active. Once I get into it I have been previously pretty successful but fall into old habits with time.
I will have a good read through and familiarise myself with the different approaches you all take.

DuckWithOneWing · 13/03/2023 15:18

Welcome @Stepcount! You did well to lose 21lbs so hopefully you can get back onto it again.

I went to pilates again today. It was a different instructor and omg the class was a killer. I'm hoping to go again in a few days if I don't ache too much tomorrow.

Notname · 13/03/2023 18:30

Hi I’m new here (have read through much of the thread but it’s very long!). Just wanted to join in as think that having somewhere to discuss things and find encouragement and ideas would be helpful 😊
I’m 43 and have struggled with my weight all my adult life. Reached 21 stone 9 lbs recently (I’m quite tall, so that was a size 20-22 for me). Can’t bear it and constantly felt worried about my health, and have huge feelings of guilt and shame. My feelings just overshadow every aspect of my life.
I have tried and failed to lose weight so many times, I felt resigned to failure and barely even tried to lose anything the past year or so as felt like it was pointless.
However I heard recently on the news about the drugs like Wegovy, so looked into what was available and thought I’d give Saxenda a go. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks, alongside tracking calories on MyFitnessPal. I’ve had a good start losing 22 lbs in three weeks (I started controlling calories a week before I started on the Saxenda). I can’t see much difference (sadly 22 lbs is pretty small in relation to my current weight!) but I feel loads better and am more in control (as opposed to my normal feelings of being controlled by food and issues around that).
Anyway, sorry for the essay! I thought it would be useful to explain myself a bit and have somewhere to be accountable. In real life I have lots of lovely friends and family but don’t really have anyone I feel I can talk to about this.

Starting weight: 21.9
Current weight: 20.1
Total loss: 1.8

Stepcount · 14/03/2023 09:51

Thank you for the welcome @DuckWithOneWing
I managed my first day pretty well. I didn’t really eat after my breakfast at 12pm until my dinner at 8pm. And once I had eaten that I was full and no time or need for any snacking. I work from 4-8pm and it can be a little problematic in terms of timing my main meal. Yesterday there was a new person sharing the office and whereas previously I have been able to snack intermittently during work, I didn’t feel I could do it with them there. Maybe a blessing in disguise!
I was very hungry this morning though so I have already had breakfast- porridge. I will have a salad for a late lunch before work. I need to do a proper shop too so that there are plenty of options for low carb/lower cal meals.

Pandermonium · 14/03/2023 10:07

Welcome @Notname and @Stepcount!
Well done on what you've both lost already! Amazing amounts.

I've started the day with coffee, a protein yoghurt and an apple.
I need to sit and sort my meal plans for this month, as I know that's what is causing me to fumble.
I've got chicken salad for lunch today, not sure on dinner yet. Maybe hunters chicken.

ShinyPikachu · 14/03/2023 10:17

Nice to see so many new names joining us, welcome everyone!

I've had a rubbish week and a horrible gain to match so sorry I've not been around.

Tbh I think my depression is back, it's been years since my last really bad bout (DH said he's never seen me this bad and we've been together for 10 years now). And what that means for me health-wise is that I will forget to eat most days and then eat junk when I remember as I'm too tired to make anything properly. The kitchen is also a tip because I'm too tired to clean it and when you ask either teen DC to help we get 4 plates washed badly and they think that's them done for 3 days. It's also meant that I've stopped going out walking and abandoned all my fitness classes too. Sad I'm a bit better now than I was so hopefully this is me starting to come out of it though.

Pandermonium · 14/03/2023 10:45

@ShinyPikachu I completely understand.
My depression and anxiety has been put of control lately too.
It's so hard just to get the smallest tasks done isn't it.
You're doing amazing, just showing up each day.

Poopoolittlekitten · 14/03/2023 10:46

Joining! 18st weighed this morning

BoxerMam · 14/03/2023 12:37

I had a good day yesterday.
I've weighed this morning and seem to have lost weight since starting on Saturday. It's likely water weight but I'm taking it as a win!

Starting weight : 16stone3lb
Current weight : 15 stone 13

Breakfast - greek yoghurt and banana
Lunch - carrot and cucumber sticks, hummus, Boiled egg and green salad
Dinner - salt and pepper chilli chicken thighs with garlic new potatoes and roasted Mediterranean veg

Today -
Breakfast - herbal tea, cantaloupe and blueberries
Lunch - tomato and red pepper soup, Pitta bread
Dinner will be a vegan pizza with hummus crust, leafy salad and coleslaw - just over 500 calories for the full pizza and it's lovely!

WeirdPookah · 14/03/2023 13:06

I went out for a walk this morning, needing sunglasses, and it started hailing/snowing! So cut my walk a bit short, the weather is crazy.

B: Black bean burrito
L: Sort of a vegetable hash made from some leftovers + more veg
D: Tofu, broccoli, edamame with sesame seeds.

TheQuest1 · 14/03/2023 15:12

Been maintaining over the weekend here , happy with that since had a full English breakfast one morning I haven’t had for months and on Friday DH delicious meatloaf with blue cheese potatoes . Generally on weekdays doing 16/8 and not eating a light lunch until late aft , not a huge dinner , no added sugar only protein or veg/ fruit / berry snacks , leaving food on my plate when I’m full etc . On a weekend eating a breakfast although the full English day we skipped lunch and had an earlier dinner instead so saved some calories there . I got the first 10 kg off in less than 4 w and have maintained it so super happy with that , now I’ll try to squeeze a bit more in the next 3 w weeks before our trip although that’s now in jeopardy due to another health issue that’s popped up . Tonight lots of lovely veg and fruit and soups for my lunches coming in the food delivery so having a nice salad tomorrow I’m actually craving . To kick start the next portion of loss I might have to do low calorie day or two with just soup etc . Really need to see some movement again to keep motivated !

DuckWithOneWing · 14/03/2023 21:55

I went to Zumba tonight! I really enjoyed it so I've agreed to go next week.

TheQuest1 · 15/03/2023 08:41

Aaarghhhhh I’m stuck and finding it hard mentally right now to really push this but I need to loose a few more before our trip away …

WildImaginings · 15/03/2023 09:36

Morning everyone, hope all is well.
@ShinyPikachu I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling. I've started being lax with taking my anxiety meds which is the first sign that my depression isn't great. I know it's a vicious circle because I'm obviously going to feel worse without the meds but I just can't seem to snap myself back into the habit. I am hoping this holiday will help me to reset.

Thrilled this morning as I've managed to hit the 2 stone loss. My interim goal weight was to hit 18.7 before 20/03 but I won't have a chance to weigh myself after tomorrow because of travelling etc so I am classing this as a win!
I'll try and keep the walking up on holiday so that my gain stays at under a stone- we shall see!

Starting weight: 20.9
Current weight: 18.9
Goal weight: 15

WeirdPookah · 15/03/2023 11:23

@WildImaginings That is great hitting that milestone!
@DuckWithOneWing super! Not something I would have the confidence to try!

I phoned my doctors this morning, expecting to get given a phone consult, then surprisingly was offered a physiotherapist appointment in less than an hour! I was on my to shopping, but stopped to phone at 9am exactly, so turn around and go home with just enough time to get ready and go!

It was great, she saw me for over half an hour to discuss the nipped nerve in my lower spine left over from my pregnancies, it leaves my thigh permanently numb and if I stand for long periods it all goes weird, and also to discuss my knee which is genetically screwed (my Mum is waiting for full knee replacement) and weak and painful.

She was so nice, gave me a set of exercises and how to proceed without starting to rely on medication, which I really don't want.

Today's eating looks like this:
B: Kidney bean burrito
L: (the most boring I ever made) Dal, with a tarka added to make it edible, cabbage
D: Mango almond chickpea korma, cucumber

Stepcount · 15/03/2023 13:24

@ShinyPikachu hope you are able to address your feelings and have some support in place.
@WildImaginings what a fantastic achievement. Enjoy your holiday !
@WeirdPookah I have something very similar sounding that has happened to me on and off for several years. I’m useless at going to the doctors, hate being faffed around with. But I should get it looked at because when it happens it’s truly horrible.
@DuckWithOneWing well done on getting to Zumba. I need to be more active. I’m hoping when my daughter gets back from university for Easter she’ll go on some walks with me.
Day 3 ( so barely started) but so far so good. I’ve been 1lb lighter each morning so a small boost to get my momentum going. I’m aiming to lose 4lbs more by the end of the month then roughly 5 or 6 a month going forward. My partner will be 60 late next year and I would love to be around 4st lighter by then. I lost 4st in 2019 but around 2st has gone back on. So that’s my first goal - back to pre pandemic weight. 🤞🏼

TheQuest1 · 15/03/2023 20:43

Unfortunately now looks like I’ll need to have some surgery probably quite soon . I was in quite a lot of pain day before last but now thankfully feeling better after pretty much just resting while DH has been working from home . It’s something that was noticed a couple of years ago which is now suddenly worse . I’ve now got a referral and insurance sorted so next have to call for an appointment. Of course rather unbelievably we’re meant to be travelling in 3 w to see my family over Easter . we haven’t seen them for a year because another bout of illness made us cancel in the summer . I just need to see a consultant and have a scan to find out if I can travel short haul . I’m still trying to keep going with my new eating regime but haven’t been able to do a really low calorie day yet . Generally I’m about -1000 cal or a bit less from my estimated daily calories so there should be results eventually again but now there’s no exercise since I’ve had to stop my housework etc which normally gets my heart going a bit at least . Also we will be going out for a Mother’s Day lunch if I’m not in too much pain in the weekend I do plan to enjoy .
GP mentioned they do the new weigh loss jab so I might go discuss that after the holidays and dealing with the latest health issue .
Well done on exercising and any losses all around ! Hopefully it’ll be me soon as well !

FatLadyTriesAgain · 15/03/2023 22:57

Down to 18.10, feeling a lot better from head cold. Got a bit more exercise today, just trying to straighten up this neglected house.

Would love to get to 18.07 by the end of this month.
