10st plus to lose - part 2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:53

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

Morning. I’m posting every day at the moment to get my momentum going with this. Another fairly straightforward day yesterday. Calorie wise I’m doing okay and another half pound gone. Still drawn to wanting something carby and warm as first food of the day so going with that for the time being and keeping the rest of the day to veg and protein. Once I have got back under the next stone marker I will start logging my progress properly.
Have a good day everyone 💪🏻

ToffeeNotCoffee · 16/03/2023 10:58

Hello everyone. I've been on holiday for nearly three weeks ! We're flying home today. We land in the UK early Friday morning (17 March).

I'm weighing myself at home on Saturday morning. Yes really !

What's the damage, chief ? Is what I'll mutter to myself as I stand on the scales !

Echoes89 · 16/03/2023 11:34

Haven't checked in for a while, very slow progress at the moment. Just 1lb to go before I've lost 5st but at this rate that may take a while. Been eating too much bread and cheese I think

SW - 17st 3lbs
CW - 12 st 4lbs
GW - 10st 6lbs

DuckWithOneWing · 16/03/2023 11:44

I'm turning into one of those annoying people that does exercise and enjoys it, because I went to pilates again yesterday! I can't go tomorrow though, so probably won't go again til Monday.

@TheQuest1 the mental bit is probably the hardest bit of dieting! But you don't need to do a "really low calorie day" if you're already eating 1000 calories less - dropping too low can actually be bad for you, and the bigger you are the more calories your body needs.

@ToffeeNotCoffee Jealous of your holiday! Hope you had a great time.

@WildImaginings well done on 2 stone! That's brilliant!

@Echoes89 welcome back! Slow progress is better than going backwards.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 16/03/2023 12:36

@DuckWithOneWing

Thanks. Didn't want it to be a stealth brag ! However, let's just say we've been living well !

Diedre44 · 16/03/2023 15:27

Hi everyone 🤗

I'm joining to try and stay accountable.
I have 11st 5lb to lose to get to mid healthy range BMI. I know not everyone takes it as a guideline.
I lost over 2.5stones pre Lockdown on Keto and gradually put it all back on plus 9lbs when I eventually got the courage to get back on scales at the weekend. So I have taken the decision to give Ozempic a try - it should be here today. In preparation I'm doing an egg fast for 5 days and today is day 4 and I feel great already.

I've never been part of any support group before, I am quite an introverted person and don't have any friends I can talk to and to be honest think they judge me in secret and hoping can garner some inspiration from you lovely lot.

I do like to weigh myself daily, I know most don't recommend it but it's what I prefer to do. Is it okay to post daily?

SW 11/03/23 - 20st 8lb
CW 16/03/23 - 19st 12lb
GW - 9st 7lbs

TheQuest1 · 16/03/2023 18:03

@Diedre44 I weight daily and it helps me feel more in control and to motivate me . I think it’s up to each person what suits them . Sure it can go up and down but you do see a trend and you can act fast if you notice things not moving or going the wrong way . Each to their own . Of course you can post as often as you want . Also I’m considering the same jab you’ll try so I’m interested of any side affects you might experience mainly about nausea since if it gives me that long term I won’t be able to use it since it’s a trickering feeling to me due to my past plus a warning sing of my illness so I can’t have that from the weight loss jab .
I’ve stayed strong today so far but finding it super hard . I need the scales to move finally though so I have to eat much less today so far just the probiotic yogurt why meds I’m the morning and a small amount of chicken veg soup with s half a small roll with a tiny smear of butter and a sliver of cheese and 20 blueberries followed by a milky coffee . A cup of tea this aft . I’m absolutely starving and miserable so I’ll have a small amount if low fat cottage cheese , Turkey abd a few tomatoes now . Dinner will be more same soup , maybe a small piece of toast and a piece of fruit or berries . Calories will be around 800/900 hopefully if I stick to this .

WeirdPookah · 16/03/2023 19:18

Please can the discussion of weight loss drugs and shots be kept to more relevant threads, the weight loss forum has nearly every other post about them.

I would really like this thread to be about more daily efforts, struggles, support, food, exercise, understanding and advice for people with this amount of weight to lose.

I claim no ownership or power over this topic, but seriously, the media is saturated with stuff about shots, and can we just have a space without it? Especially when there is ample (lol) room to discuss it elsewhere.

Wombatbum · 16/03/2023 20:56

Hi…. I’m new here. At my heaviest at the moment at a smidge over 20 stone. I’m a serial yo-yo dieter. Something new though is binge eating nearly every day. It’s scaring me I feel out of control.

TheQuest1 · 16/03/2023 22:04

@WeirdPookah i did not realise this wasn’t a general having a large amount of weight to loose support thread open to all and that certain topics were “ banned “ . Don’t we all have the same goal in the end which ever way we get there and it’s a matter of personal choice which eating plan / diet / surgery / medication you use ? We all still have to eat less and healthier ?! I had not noticed a large amount of threads mentioning the topic since I haven’t been looking at the other weight loss threads . Also why is that a problem if they are occasionally mentioned ? Seems like censorship a bit like earlier when you were telling me earlier what to write . I am not even on a jab yet but I can’t say about considering it as one way to help me when it’s something doctors recommend in my kind of cases ?! it’s not just some fad or “ an easy way out “ . People who might explore these options still need the same support and will be struggling with their daily food choices and exercise and everything else you mentioned !

TheQuest1 · 16/03/2023 22:06

I am quoting the OP in the beginning of this current thread and based on that I joined …

“Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.”

DuckWithOneWing · 16/03/2023 23:41

I feel like general stuff about weight loss medications can be discussed here, but it's not a specialist thread. So if you want to discuss things like what dose to take or where to inject there are better threads for that - in the same way that if someone wants to know how many WW points to eat today or how many syns are in avocado there's a better place to ask those questions too.

I don't think any topic should be banned, but because we're not all doing the same thing we're not going to know all of the answers.

Welcome @Wombatbum! Don't wait till Monday, start your diet tomorrow!

WeirdPookah · 17/03/2023 07:28

@DuckWithOneWing that sounds a great solution! Keep technical talk where it can actually be addressed by people interested and with some knowledge about it.

Passing comments are no different to talking about preferred diet or exercise preferences really.

@Wombatbum is there something triggering your binges?
First step would be seeing if you can identify anything that does, or anything that has halted them in the past and seeing if you can work with it.

Wombatbum · 17/03/2023 07:29

I’ve no idea why it’s started. I’ve always been an emotional eater but this is something else.

TheQuest1 · 17/03/2023 09:54

After my lighter day yesterday I’m finally down another 1kg ! I was starting to get pretty frustrated . I’d love for a few more to go before possibly travelling and in general have a sense of urgency now to make a real chance quickly because of my multiple health issues . I will try another lighter day today since we are going out for an early Mother’s Day lunch tomorrow and it’ll be a several small course tasting menu . I will try to not finish them although then they’ll always ask if there is something wrong with the food . So fasting this morning except for my meds and some yogurt with them then I’ll either have more lovely chicken soup or a nice big salad with cous cous and Turkey and a bunch of veg plus a few small bits of cheese followed by a bit of fruit and a coffee for late lunch . Dinner will be which ever I didn’t have for lunch . I’ve got to believe I can do this !!! I have many reasons why I finally have to get my weight down ; reversing health issues , wanting to be more active although my illnesses will still stop me doing some stuff still but I could do more than this plus of course I’d like to have to have my old body back and look more like I used to before I first got sick a decade + ago and everything went down hill . Now that my kids are older I feel like I can look after myself more , they don’t need me as much in the same way . It’s finally my turn !
@Wombatbum have you thought of going to talk to someone about this binging ? Maybe someone with more knowledge could help ? Has something out of the ordinary happened in your life recently ? Extra stress in everyday life ?

Wombatbum · 17/03/2023 10:05

Nothing bad in particular, my house is a state and I’m not sure where to start, I think I probably have ADHD which doesn’t help!

FatLadyTriesAgain · 17/03/2023 10:06

I'm down another pound, now 18.09. Nice to get below the double figure of pounds.

The best change in my eating habits has been not to eat after 7pm. I sleep better, and don't feel hungry as soon as I get up. I get on with the morning routine and drink some redbush tea. Relax around 10am for breakfast that keeps me going until mid-afternoon. Early evening, I have something small.

I'd be thrilled to get below 18.07 by the end of the month.

WeirdPookah · 17/03/2023 11:19

I lost 1.5lb this week, not bad considering the takeaway celebration!

@Wombatbum are you in the position you could approach your GP for the start of an (I assume) adult ADHD diagnosis? Try the Neurodiverse Mumsnetters board for advice. It can give you a whole new frame of mind about yourself, your abilities and stops you knocking yourself when you can't do something.

It can be a slow process, but time will pass anyway, so you might as well start the process if you can.

I got an adult Autism diagnosis about a year and a half ago, and it's so freeing to know it's because I am Autistic that it knocks me down supermarket shopping, it's a horrific environment for Autistic people and it burns every bit of my energy to do it, I'm not lazy, or wrong, just Autistic and it's a world not built for my sensory needs.

Stepcount · 17/03/2023 11:21

Well done everyone on your losses and keeping at it.
@Wombatbum I had a phase recently where my appetite never felt fully satiated and then into the later evening it became almost like compulsive eating to the point of feeling over full and uncomfortable. In my case I couldn’t explain it either. I’m menopausal and have had quite a raft of problems with that but other aspects of my life are without issue. I feel better this week taking back control of my intake. I needed to break the cycle. Hopefully you can find a way through it.
No change on the scales this morning. I need to make sure over the weekend I don’t undo some of the progress I have made this week.

DuckWithOneWing · 17/03/2023 22:49

@Wombatbum are you eating enough during the day? It's common for people to restrict too much, then eat loads in the evening to make up for it (because your body wants food) - then the next day you feel bad because you ate too much so you restrict food again and the cycle continues.

Today my partner and I went on a day trip to Oxford. I climbed the stairs to the top of the castle - they were uneven and there was a lot of them! And we went to the top of the mound as well. We did loads of walking, probably about 3 times my usual daily amount. I'm exhausted now but I really enjoyed it.

TheQuest1 · 18/03/2023 08:58

Yes ! Another 1 kg down and now I’m very nearly down 2 st in less than 5 w from starting at the current -12 kg ! We will go out to lunch and we have some little cakes and a champagne and chocolates because of Mother’s Day this weekend but I’m now able to have just a bit of something like that without any desire for more so it’ll be fine . I will continue with lighter days in the next 3 w pre travelling until I get to -15 kg if that’s possible . Breakfast today will be 1 boiled egg with 1 piece of toast and a smear of butter plus a tea with skim milk , I will also
have a milky coffee before going out to lunch which will be a tasting menu at a nice restaurant for an early Mother’s Day . I will try to not finish my courses and to have just soup / salad and a few berries later and a taste of those cakes . Might not weigh tomorrow so I’m not annoyed if anything comes back . Then tomorrow I will eat lighter despite in being the actual Mother’s Day since we’ll celebrate with a meal out today . I’m fantasising about hitting that reading in a few more kg down , I’m getting to numbers I haven’t been for about 5 y ! And a few after that it’ll be for even longer at around 8 y so it’s like going back in time …
Good luck with any weighing to all !

CW 20,1 st (128 kg)
GW 10 -12 st (63-76 kg )

Stepcount · 18/03/2023 09:43

Happy weekend! I’m edging down on the scales with another lb off but I have form for managing the weekdays quite well then sabotaging things come Saturday. I’m off later to shout loudly at the rugby then celebrate when Ireland win the grand slam 🤞🏼☘️ and tomorrow I have a meal and cocktails planned for Mother’s Day with my lovely girls. So highly unlikely all of my 3+lb loss from this week will still be off come Monday! These are the challenges we face I guess. Enjoy whatever you do. 👍

Diedre44 · 18/03/2023 10:31

Well done 🤩🤩 @TheQuest1 and @Stepcount

I finished my egg fast yesterday and absolutely buzzing I've lost 11lbs in less than a week. I know it's mostly water weight but I feel so much better for it. I had a lovely bowl of air fried sprouts and cauli with 2 slices bacon crumbled in last night for a late dinner it was delish 😇

I have taken my first dose of Ozempic this morning. I am not going to ask for any information on here about it as @WeirdPookah stated there's other threads in relation to it and I have already but as it is going to be part of my weight loss journey I am going to be honest and upfront about it.
I will be following a low carb 16/8 plan that has helped me in the past. I am cutting all refined sugar and working towards removing processed food. I even had a cup of black tea this week without wincing 😁.
I know I have a long hard journey ahead of me and hope by helping to support each other in a real honest manner without judgement we will all get there together.
Keep going all 🤗

SW 11/03/23 - 20st 8lb
CW 18/03/23 - 19st 11b
GW - 9st 7lbs

WeirdPookah · 18/03/2023 19:27

Pretty good day today other than a unplanned taro mochi!

Tomorrow my girls are making a living room picnic for me, and I am absolutely going to enjoy eating all they do, you have to appreciate your children doing something for you and not having to do anything yourself! @Stepcount hope you enjoy yourself too!

No cake needed, we made mango falooda which is fun!
Having mini pastries and melon for breakfast.

The weather forecast is good, going to walk along the prom after breakfast.

DuckWithOneWing · 18/03/2023 20:16

@WeirdPookah your food sounds amazing! I just had a Tesco ready meal with extra veg for dinner.

Well done @TheQuest1 and @Stepcount. It is a marathon not a sprint, so having a day or so off plan occasionally is fine.

Well done @Diedre44 I definitely couldn't do low carb so it's interesting seeing everyone's different approaches.

I'm starting a new job this week, so I'm trying to plan my activities for the week but I've realised that all the convenient after work Pilates classes have booked up! I've managed to book for Monday but I'm not sure when I'll be able to go again after that 😟I did sneak in an extra class today though. I feel like I'm already getting better.
