Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! October’s Thread here’s Novembers Thread.

🎄8 Week Count Down to Christmas 🎄😬 There is still time (for those who want to) for a body/mind/fitness overhaul before the festivities and family get together commence 🥳 Plus, who doesn’t want to start 2023 feeling more energised, fitter and svelte!

Jump right in! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead with a few tweaks here and there and it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

I've been out for a decent walk with DS today and currently snuggled up in my oodie, surrounded by cats - it's a good life really! I should start thinking about packing really..

We're out at the fireworks spectacular tonight so dinner likely be a burger from a dodgy van but they can't be beat... not overly healthy but have been good for breakfast (bran flakes) and lunch (crackers, marmite & yoghurt) so with all the walking, won't feel too guilty.

Roll on the solstice, RealHousewife - can't believe how dark it gets, so early!

fallfallfall · 05/11/2022 15:58

So the plane effects still ongoing, down to 147.3 (so down another 1.3lbs)
I need to meal plan and pick up groceries.
I’ll be making chicken broth today, supper will be the last of the take out

fallfallfall · 05/11/2022 15:59

Oh nearly forgot, plan on starting a 7 day challenge I found on msn for toning arms!

SanFranBear · 06/11/2022 10:40

Last nights fireworks trip was dreadful jn the end - we were still queuing to get in when the show started so missed most of it.. so badly organised, bordering on dangerous. I've contacted them to request a refund as there was just so many things wrong and it wasn't cheap! But wanted to treat the DC as they don't really ask for much... lost DS in the chaos of leaving as well as no crowd control or clear exit route or anything... as I said, dangerous!

Did mean no burger inside so ended up with Chinese takeaway and chocolate - so my good start to the day did not end that way! Ah well - will try better today although friends we were hoping to see last night are coming round for lunch so about to nip out for supplies. French stick is a must, I think....

Sounds like your holiday gain is vanishing as rapidly as it appeared, fallfall... and a toning programme sounds like a good idea - I could definitely do with that for my arms!

fallfallfall · 06/11/2022 11:49

@SanFranBear I’d be livid, I hope you get a full refund. I find chinese leads to salt retention not really “weight” gain, but I understand.
the video moved quickly from one position to another; note to self watch first. Two positions were near impossible, input appreciated, can most people do these?

@SanFranBear that sounds poorly organised. DH and I went to a concert a few evenings ago and we were both looking for the fire escapes, in case of emergencies. We used to do that years ago, then got more relaxed about it, but as we’ve seen in recent news, you can’t always trust the organisation is adequate.

Smugsmaug · 06/11/2022 18:58

Hello a late joiner!
Recovering from a bug, so will start to build in exercise/walks this week.
Away for parts of the month, but aiming to focus on whole foods rather than processed. And will incorporate IF too. Have just over 20 pounds to lose, excited to see the fast keto plan may help to make a big dent in that before Xmas!

CrimsonAlligator · 06/11/2022 19:45

That sounds like a really badly organised event @SanFranBear . How disappointing (and dangerous!)

@fallfallfall I think the first exercise requires a bit of core strength, as well as muscle strength in the arms, so should be possible with some practice. What is it you struggle with? Is it keeping your body straight, or lifting it in the first place?

The second exercise looks like it’d require a fairly high degree of flexibility in the shoulders. Some people have that, some people don’t. If you fall in the latter category, I’d be tempted to just skip that exercise! As someone who is struggling permanently with a shoulder injury because of overly flexible shoulders, I’d say having flexible shoulders is overrated!

fallfallfall · 06/11/2022 21:35

@CrimsonAlligator definitely the rotator cuff being tight, i believe this is the first time in my life that i have ever positioned my hands twisted, behind me, and higher than mid torso (a bit higher than my waist). the second stretch again is limited by a tight and painful upper arm in a spot i would associate with my deltoid muscle (the muscle where you get a booster shot. anyway, i repeated the video and it was better.
weight down again 146.8
either way i would like to get back into some accurate calorie counting and more exercise getting that goal weight to 135 (middle of the bmi healthy zone).

crivit · 06/11/2022 22:07

Not great form by me there. Post and then disappear for a few days!

Great news on the house @SanFranBear but not so good on the fireworks. I do love a good display and bonfire and have definitely missed them over the last few years.

@fallfallfall I'm glad the exercises were easier the second time around because those images didn't fill me with hope 😯

Mixed few days for me, illness, a smidge of comfort eating and things not going to plan but also 3 gym sessions, two pilates and 2 (with one more to come tonight) yoga sessions plus a surprisingly challenging hike yesterday. I now know that when a particular website says 'sure-footedness' required they mean 'should be a mountain goat'. Suffice to say there was the odd bit of 'heck no, I'm going down this bit on my arse by choice before I end up on it anyway'. I also got more ready for skiing by buying new boots and new (to me) skis ⛷

Best of luck for the week ahead everyone 😁

fallfallfall · 07/11/2022 02:03

@TheRealHousewife my dd came through with the amazing bean recipe. i will try it myself before i pass it on. to me it tasted amazing and cheesy but there is NO cheese in the recipe she shared with me, and some funky technique with an onion that is studded with four whole cloves...and wine...
breast ultrasound tomorrow...3 years of 6 monthly checks. and dental surgery on wednesday. my plan is to restart the walking program the following monday.
i need to get some snacking that is happening during my eating window under control.

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 07/11/2022 08:22

Day 49
SW:143.2
CW:136.4
GW:126
6.8lbs
Nearly at 7lbs and good to be down a bit after a weekend. I said November will be my month and I will really focus properly. Pity the weather is so awful at the moment that it is hard to get out. Will have to fire up Leslie on You Tube and "WACK,WACK,WACK" 😂

ImALittlePea · 07/11/2022 10:22

Morning all.

Sorry to hear the fireworks was a bust @SanFranBear it's just such a disappointment when an event like that goes that way, isn't it. I recall a few years ago I took DS to a display in a local pub - it was frighteningly dangerous, mass panic as fireworks started to come into the crowd and the play equipment, a tiny exit route that bottlenecked. Quite traumatic for a then-4yo (and me!) We had tickets to a (much more professional) display on Saturday but thankfully it was postponed due to poor weather as I just didn't have the energy for it. Hoping for a more positive experience this coming weekend.

All the best for your scan today @fallfallfall ❤️

Hitting a big reset today! Weekend was nice and chilled but we did have takeaway twice 🤦‍♀️ for the first time in a month, both kids are at their respective childcare/school as they should be, so we have NORMALITY in the house. Tea, a bit of work, and quiet to come for today.

I haven't managed a proper food shop yet, but I think the plan for today is along the lines of:
Lunch - ravioli (saw a tin of Heinz beef ravioli in the shop when picking up some milk this morning and got a real hankering for it 😬)
Dinner - baked potato, beans and cheese. Or something similar.

So not awful, but not wholesome either. Going to try and do a food shop today so we can have some proper home cooked meals this week - I'm thinking risotto, hunters chicken, Mexican and a casserole of some ilk. Warm, fresh goodness - finally.

Here's to a positive week ahead gang 💪

LadyWithLapdog · 07/11/2022 10:30

@ImALittlePea www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/wild-mushroom-chicken-bacon-risotto I made this risotto yesterday and mine liked it. I used far less mushrooms as I only had the dried ones in the house and an extra teabag of lapsangsuchong for a bit of smokiness.

ImALittlePea · 07/11/2022 10:40

@LadyWithLapdog that sounds lovely for me but unfortunately DH is a mushroom hater (I know, I know!) we normally have either fennel and bacon, or veggies with a touch of pesto. I'm intrigued by the teabag addition though?! We only have bog standard English breakfast teabags in the house - would they have a similar effect?

LadyWithLapdog · 07/11/2022 10:43

I’ve never knowingly had fennel! I don’t know about other tea. I used it in a mushroom stroganoff recipe, alongside Dijon mustard, so I thought I’d give it a try in this one, to add some taste because I didn’t have enough mushrooms.

CrimsonAlligator · 07/11/2022 10:54

If we’re sharing risotto recipes....This one is really good. I make mine with a veggie version of chorizo and it still tastes great, so I imagine the meaty version being super tasty.

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/chorizo-rosemary-pearl-barley-risotto

It’s made with barley, rather than rice so it is a little bit different, but still real comfort food, plus it needs minimal stirring unlike a “real” risotto. I cook mine a bit longer than the 30 minutes recommended here, may be for around 40-45 minutes?

ImALittlePea · 07/11/2022 11:19

Ooh nice looking recipe @CrimsonAlligator I'll see if I can persuade my fussy DH to try.

I've only knowingly ever had fennel in that risotto @LadyWithLapdog, it's delicious though. It's my mums recipe but I could try and recite it on the thread if anyone wants it.

PumperQuarter · 07/11/2022 11:39

Well done on the losses so far! Very impressed with you all. Inspired by your encouragement, I did a little at home yoga during a nap. Only managed 15 mins by the time I had gotten changed and organised but still, it was nice to do something other than walking. It must have done something because I am SO sore today!

I'm at 10st 7.2 today so down 1.4 lbs which I'll take as a win (though after having a LOT of chocolate the other day I think that 1.4 might come sneaking back again soon 😬)

Good luck with your scan and dental surgery @fallfallfall hope it all goes well

LadyWithLapdog · 07/11/2022 11:41

That Pearl barley one looks really nice. I’ve just checked and I don’t have any Pearl barley, but I’m always open to ideas for my rather fussy DCs. Yes to fennel as well. I’ve used fennel seeds, or I have them at any rate, but not the plant.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 07/11/2022 11:45

@SanFranBear sorry about the fireworks what a complete disaster!
@fallfallfall good luck with the scan today, hoping all goes well for you, and the dental surgery!

I had a bit of an indulgent weekend mainly because I was at a festival and the only food available was of the bacon butty and fried variety. Back up to 66.8kg so hoping I can loose the 0.3 by Wednesday and at least maintain for this week. Went on a vinted spree yesterday evening and bought myself some new tops and jumpers as I think I am now officially a size 12 instead of 14. I have quite narrow shoulders anyway and it has reached the point where I was having to pull them back up every 2 seconds. Hoping the bottom half will follow suit soon.

LadyWithLapdog · 07/11/2022 11:47

Well done for the weight loss @PumperQuarter

I did a couple of exercise videos this morning (FitOn) and some cooking. I find if I cook I satisfy my craving and thoughts of food and I eat less! I bought a couple of things off eBay in my usual size (14) and they don’t fit, which is annoying. But also a new dress which feels too large but I’ll keep as I like it.

LadyWithLapdog · 07/11/2022 12:01

I’ve just downloaded Vinted and trying to work it out :)

MercuryRising · 07/11/2022 14:11

Nov sw- 185
Nov goal - 177
Ultimate goal - 161

7th Nov - 181

28th Nov-
30th Nov -

4 pounds off this week which feels like a good start. However, I need to make sure I don't get complacent now which is what usually happens.

I will catch up properly with the thread this evening.

SanFranBear · 07/11/2022 15:26

Happy Monday!

What a horrid day today - grey and rainy and windy... feel like winter has really moved in this last week or so!

Having a fairly low calorie day today and am aiming to make a Two Chubby Cubs meal tonight - Mongolian Beef, minus the heat (I tend to put paprika in as opposed to chilli as my DC don't like spice - whereas I love it!). Hoping it'll be tasty as sounds right up my alley!

I've heard good things about Vinted, LadyWithLapdog but my heart belongs to Ebay.. that, and charity shop diving. Prices appear to have shot up in our local shops but still an absolute bargain and we have a number of local charities who have shops as well as the bigger, national ones.

Great start, Mercury - 4lbs is loads, well done!

Festival sounds great, Allthegoodnames - was it a music one? I'm sure you'll have done your fair share of walking anyway so it might not be the gain you're expecting?

Loving all the risotto talk - love me a risotto so might check out some links although DS not a fan! DD made one at school a couple of weeks back and it was not a success 😄
