Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! October’s Thread here’s Novembers Thread.

🎄8 Week Count Down to Christmas 🎄😬 There is still time (for those who want to) for a body/mind/fitness overhaul before the festivities and family get together commence 🥳 Plus, who doesn’t want to start 2023 feeling more energised, fitter and svelte!

Jump right in! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead with a few tweaks here and there and it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Happy Hallowe’en. We’ve had a few trick or treaters and the really tiny little ones are so adorable. They are just frozen in the porch and their older siblings push them forward to get chocolates. Mine are so much older now, I quite rarely see children these ages now. (Long way of saying I’ve been diving in the Roses and Celebrations.)

siucra · 31/10/2022 18:27

It's been bank holiday here today (Ireland) so am starting properly tomorrow. Back to work, which I find easier to fast. And then various vegetables and things for dinner. Good luck everyone xx

TheRealHousewife · 31/10/2022 18:28

@LadyWithLapdog The little ones are my favourite Trick or Treaters too. So adorable 🥰 A couple of years ago we had a group of very sexily dressed teen girls knock 😮 They were dressed more like for a night on the town 😅

Hi Troops! Just bookmarking to come back to throughout the month. Good luck to everyone in November.

TheRealHousewife · 31/10/2022 18:33

I love Ireland @siucra . A few years ago I visited Southern Ireland and went to Tipperary and the surrounding area. During that visit to Ireland we went to a place where stuff defied gravity. I’m absolutely certain a tin can rolled up a road. Also I lost my brakes 😮😱🫣, scared me sh before they came into play again. For the life of me I can’t remember the place name. Have you heard of such a place?

OP posts:
TheRealHousewife · 31/10/2022 18:34

I think the place name started with an M? @siucra

Hi @RadFad 👍

Happy Halloween!

I was rushing to get tea sorted after work and before bed, so I put a large tub of sweets outside the front door. Second lot of trick or treaters were teenagers and nicked the lot 🤬 Greedy sods.

How's everyone done today?

I've had a good day, in that I'm under my calories with a bit left for a treat after tea. Was hard work though - I was sat at my desk and I felt hungry all day!

B: Lemon meringue overnight oats and 2 satsumas
L: roasted broccoli quinoa salad with honey mustard dressing, grapes, wotsits
D: Butternut squash risotto with a small piece of garlic bread
S: apple, peanut butter skinny crunch bar

MercuryRising · 31/10/2022 20:20

Thank you for welcoming me.
Day 1 completed successfully for me.

B- high protein wheat bisks
L- no chicken no chorizo layered salad
D- vegetable biryani with veg sausages

Snacks - 2 crumpets with jam

Half a hiit workout completed (need to get further on Wednesday) and over 9000 steps (which is much more than I have done in ages)

Back to work tomorrow so hoping a return to structure will help to keep me focused 🙏

TheRealHousewife · 31/10/2022 22:15

@FireflyGirl the thieving little sods! I hope they scoff the lot and are up all night hyper/needing the loo 😬

@MercuryRising Great step count 👍 Now repeat 😬When you’re seeing results you’ll be pleased you were consistent.

Good Morning Everyone! I'm feeling positive about this.

My weigh day is usually Friday Mornings but then I 'treat myself' at the weekend and I don't think I'm doing myself any favours so considering moving it to Sundays.

milkfromthesleepycow · 01/11/2022 07:27

Starting again November!

SW 90.9kg
CW 66.4kg
GW 60kg

Aim for November is 65kg. We got this!!

@ImALittlePea sorry to hear you are so poorly. Rest, fluids and nutritious foods. You're on a really bumpy section of road over the last little while but it's going to flatten to a lovely clear lane you can sail down soon 💐

SanFranBear · 01/11/2022 07:36

Not entirely unexpectedly, I've seen a gain on last week but I have been completely mindless the last few days and think a lot is caught up in the sheer amount of salt I ingested (damn you, Mackies crisps!)

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 70.5kg
November GW: 69kg

So GW for this month is the same as last but am determined to not just hit it, but smash it to smithereens - we shall see.

Oh no, Firefly.. how disappointing! I'm lucky in that DS has never really been into the dressing up so DD goes out with friends and he's in charge of doling out the treats - and he's very strict, handing out one per visitor! Just as well as was busy round here last night - have to agree, the sweet little ones are the absolute best!

Friday is my usual day too, WeKnowFrogs - I'm certainly more disciplined during the week so is a good marker for me. I get what you mean about it encouraging bad habits on the weekend, though!

Wishing everyone a successful Tuesday, however that looks! My aim is to just not exceed my daily calories as its been far too easy to do of late!

FireflyGirl · 01/11/2022 08:01

SW: 173.2lb
CW: 173.2lb
November GW: 170lb

I fully expect to gain weight in the next couple of weeks, because I always do when I first start trying to lose, but I think 3.2lb is a realistic goal for the month.

Does anyone set little interim rewards? When I lost weight last time, it was lose half a stone and get my nails done, lose a stone and then get my smaller size clothes out. I have so many lovely things that I don't fit into at the moment, and I'm sick of wearing the same outfits over and over, so that would be a lovely treat for me!

TheRealHousewife · 01/11/2022 08:11

Good Morning Campers 👍

November came around quickly! Soon have to get the Brussels on for Christmas dinner 🎄😬

Weight same as yesterday and I’m feeling positive I can shave a bit off this month.

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa As a weekly weigher, it won’t matter when you weigh as long as your trend is downwards overall.

@milkfromthesleepycow You've done so well to date! Keep doing what you’re doing as it obviously works 👏

@SanFranBear You're another one of our threads great reducers (can’t put loser as it sounds wrong 😅) You’ve done fantastically well so far. Salt makes me water logged too! As for eating more cals being too easy; I utterly agree! I think the combination of cooler wetter weather and the darker nights are to blame! I can’t remember being as affected by those changes as I have this year.

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made minestrone soup. GF bread. Pecan nuts.

Meal 2 - Fish, minted new potatoes, carrots & peas.
Tea, black coffee and water.

I’ve shared the Action for Happiness November Let’s be Happier & Kinder Together monthly calendar ❤️

Morning all! I had a good day yesterday and came in under calories for probably the first time in a month 🥳 I’m not so excited about this morning’s weigh in though - 79kg which takes me just into the overweight bracket. At least that gives me a nice clear goal for November. Healthy BMI here I come (again!)

@FireflyGirl I’m a big believer in small rewards for hitting milestones, or just for sticking to plan for a couple of weeks. Keeping motivated long term is the biggest challenge for me, so anything that helps with that is worth trying.

I’m loving the calendar you shared @TheRealHousewife . Lots of good ideas on there.

ImALittlePea · 01/11/2022 09:45

Morning.

Thank you @milkfromthesleepycow - I very much hope you're right. We need some smoothness now, quite desperately.

Weight round up;
SW (end of 2021) 11st 8lb
CW 10st 0lb 8oz (and I reckon a bit less but drugs from the weekend have me a bit back up (sorry))
GW around 9st 10oz - but will see how I settle as I recover and move forwards. Want to be within the 9s enough for some wiggle room, basically 😁

Focus for now has to be on gaining strength and getting better. DH has stocked me up with SO much soup. Hoping to manage some cooking, I want pasta and risotto (soft carbs I can add veggies to) but his cooking skills don't quite stretch that far so it'll be down to me. I hate ready meals so don't want to go down that road (although anything would be an improvement on yesterday's hospital meals!)

Wishing everyone a positive month ahead ❤️

FireflyGirl · 01/11/2022 10:00

@ImALittlePea I'm a big fan of oven baked risotto - rice, water and stock in a casserole dish for 25-30 minutes. I usually chop some butternut squash or similar veggies and roast them at the same time, then mash half of the veggies into the rice. Easy to throw together and yummy 😋

Cloudberries123 · 01/11/2022 12:59

People on here have various Weigh Days, WeKnowFrogs, but personally I've found that Wednesday really works for me! It's a nice marker in the middle of the week and there's enough room 'either side' to relax a bit on the weekend but also to get any junk food water weight off before the weigh-in. I genuinely look forward to it! 😄

Well done for showing up for yourselves milk and SanFran I'm so impressed by your long-term commitment to your health. Just goes to show that we can have off weeks or even months, and then re-commit.

Fireflygirl Don't think I've said hi to you yet. Well done on weighing in! And yes, I have mini goals (as a lot to lose) and can't wait to hit my first target as I can then treat myself - haircut I think!

LittlePea It's been a shit show but just keep going. Can you/your partner manage some microwave flavoured rice packets? I find them comforting when I'm ill and need quick food.

Good job on staying the same RealHousewife I'm the same as last week, which feels a bit boring but I'll take it! Eaten lots of less nutritious food recently, but also incredibly busy and active.

SW - 100.4kg (September)
CW - 98.6kg (stayed the same)
Mini goal - 95kg

Another busy day of life admin and meeting a friend - lots of walking around town with heavy baby.

Breakfast - slice toasted sunflower seed bread, cream cheese. 2 coffees

Snack - apple and peanut butter. Handful roasted and salted pumpkin seeds from our Halloween pumpkin (so delicious!)

Lunch and dinner no idea yet, but will be quick, maybe meatballs and veggies in a pan.

CassandraBarrett · 01/11/2022 18:19

I'm joining you all in November too.
SW : 64.4kg
CW : 60.3kg
GW: 59kg

Weighed myself this morning then ate my body weight in DC's Halloween sweets. Had to throw most of them out because I can't say no 🙈
Hopefully tomorrow's scales willing be kind to me!

I saw 59.9kg one morning during the week, it's a long time since there's been a 5 at the front!

ImALittlePea · 01/11/2022 18:49

So today I've managed

  • small pot of yoghurt
  • small bag of skips
  • just under half a tin of tomato soup with a lightly toasted muffin
  • ice lolly

DH went to the shop and bought some 'finest' range lasagnes so we're having one of those tonight with a few oven chips on the side.

Still not managed to unblock myself (soz). Too much pain relief and other medications I suspect. Hopefully that happens soon 😬

Still feeling incredibly weak but have managed a bit of light parenting 😂 have been fever free all day again so I'm hoping the corner may be close by for turning. No more sickness from anyone in the family either all day so fingers crossed that we escape anything else. PLEASE! 🤞

Cloudberries123 · 01/11/2022 21:06

That's a good start LittlePea No more sickness!

Had a good rest of the day food-wise. Lunch was very late but had one wholemeal roll with tuna mayo, and a small pack of crisps, plus more pumpkin seeds. (Once upon a time I would never have been 'satisfied' with only one roll!)

Then dinner was soup made from our pumpkin. Roasted and blended, delicious.

Hope everyone has a good rest of the week.

MercuryRising · 01/11/2022 21:27

Thanks for your words of encouragement TheRealHousewife I'm trying to accept that consistency and slow and steady is the way forwards.

I was back at work today and have been consciously trying to walk around more when I teach to get my step count up... it was over 6000 today and I achieved my Garmin goal of climbing 10 flights of stairs. Will try to increase it over the coming weeks.

B- 2 x protein bisks
L- chickpea dahl and a protein yogurt
D- fish, New potatoes, corn on the cob and mushy peas

No snacking which I'm really proud of.

I had a shiny new water bottle delivered from Amazon today and I'm going to try to drink 3 litres of water a day 🤞

I really like the idea of rewards for smaller achievements... I'm going to plan something for when I lose half a stone.

crivit · 01/11/2022 22:34

Hi

Joining the thread if that's ok?

Two years ago I was at my lowest weight for many years of 65kg but then life got awkward. In particular this last twelve months have been a huge challenge with both family troubles and my own health concerns. This year I've have covid twice with a fairly major surgery in-between involving several months using a wheelchair and / or crutches. Lack of activity plus comfort eating led to a high of 78kg a month ago. Down to 76.3kg as of this morning but looking to get down to between 55 and 65 depending on muscle mass.

I've got one month until the ski stations open and while I'd love to have made it to below 70 by then I'm thinking that 73 to 74 may be more realistic.

Will plan on making healthier choices and keeping steadily active. If I push too hard then I'll have to answer to my physio! Will aim for 3 gym sessions a week (mix of weights and cardio) plus 2 pilates classes and several home yoga sessions.

Food today was
lunch : buckwheat pasta with red pesto, tofu and broad beans
dinner : bean salad with bread and butter
snack : square of mint dark chocolate and about to make a cocoa.

crivit · 01/11/2022 22:42

Oh yes, I forgot a slice of cake 😂 It was a homemade speculaas apple and pear cake and definitely not a daily occurrence although it may be finished tomorrow...
