I started ozempic last night

Going to log my experience here as a journal and also to help others if interested.

having gone hungry to lose 5lbs earlier this year and then stalled because I’m always hungry, I put 4lbs back on. Being v pear shaped I never have a belly, but now it sticks out and digs in and clothes are uncomfortable. Doing more exercise makes no difference. It is clear that will power simply doesn’t work for me.

I took my first dose (0.25mg) last night. Woke up around 2.30 with pain at the injection site which passed. Was v thirsty so gulped water which just seemed to sit there. A couple of small burps. Got back to sleep. Weirdly vivid dreams. This morning, not particularly hungry first thing.

Sorry @Straycatblue , I sent you a code before @butterflyawayhome 's message came through 😳

Stillwearingskinnies · 15/01/2023 16:56

And to answer your question, it seems to have stopped me from emotional eating. I was always eating when bored or annoyed or tired and for the last 8 weeks, I don't think I've done that at all. I think I put on a previous post that I wasn't sure if spending the money was making me eat less, or the side-effects, or something else. But genuinely I now feel differently about food. Quite weird.
Other people's experiences may be different!

No worries re code , I think we all cross posted 😁

That's good to know about emotional eating , it's good to know it's having an effect regardless so fingers crossed!

Goawayangryman · 15/01/2023 17:39

I've done a huge amount of physical labour today on... Half a hot cross bun. Very unlike me.. I was feeling a bit in need of fuel by the time my (early) dinner came around mind.

@butterflyawayhome - thank you!

Can I ask everyone, does it stop emotional eating?
I don't always suffer from hunger but do emotional eat

Does it get rid of that emotional urge or does it stop it by default because you physically don't want to eat ?

I'm quite a long-term user and I've lost a lot of weight and it has definitely eliminated emotional or non-hunger eating for me. I feel like I imagine a "normal" person does around food instead of a disordered one. It's removed all the food chatter from my head.

I still enjoy my food but I don't think about it or have cravings. More than even the weightloss, the peace of mind has ben the gamechanger.

Twwodoorsaway · 15/01/2023 17:43

I’ve been more hungry today than the rest of the week (4 days post jab 1). But I haven’t eaten a lot, I’ve just noticed I’m hungry by meal times which isn’t the norm for me at all! I’m going to have a weigh on Wednesday before injection two, and keep my fingers crossed I do anything like as well as some of you have done already.

Goawayangryman · 15/01/2023 17:51

For me (and I'm only a week and a bit in...) It has totally nixed emotional eating. Whatever reward centre was being triggered by consuming food seems to have been dialled down a bit.
Plus, my stomach feels really full if I try and overeat, uncomfortably so. I've just fed 1/3 of my tea to the dog and that's after a serious workout hoiking and cutting and installing massive heavy railway sleepers, alone, in the garden for the last 3 hours.

I used to get so hungry I'd feel physically sick if I didn't eat enough, especislly for breakfast. Maybe I'll wake up murderously hungry tomorrow and be eating my words....

So helpful reading experiences on here. Does anyone have a code they could share for my juniper? Thanks!

I've been away this weekend. It's been a revelation.
I didn't plan car snacks.I've eaten out and a/made sensible choices, b/left my food when I was full. I've drank pints, but stopped when I was full. I've not once felt deprived, but I've just felt sensible around food.
Such a game changer!

Windinmyhair · 15/01/2023 21:01

I did it.

I paid for my first month! Woohooo.

Katrinawaves · 15/01/2023 21:19

I’ve managed to get through the weekend with only very mild nausea and no vomiting! The half dose has obviously worked. I’m going to take the second half on Tuesday all being well. The appetite suppression is still working well even on half a dose.

orangelotus · 15/01/2023 22:09

today i felt my usual self- greedy with no off switch - had crisps pâté and a roast dinner. Now I feel
awful. Stomach ache nausea generally not right.'i wonder is it a result of overeating?
i'm
in bed but worried i'm going to be sick or have an unfortunate incident!!
Has anyone else had this?

OneAndDon3 · 16/01/2023 07:09

Not with food no, but I drank a bit much on Friday night (a cocktail and a couple of glasses of wine) and I had a hangover from hell on Saturday)

OneAndDon3 · 16/01/2023 07:40

Also I've still not weighed, but two weeks in my belt has come in three notches and my bra has come in two rows of hooks, so I think it's all going in the right direction.

HermioneWeasley · 16/01/2023 08:15

@Katrinawaves thats great, I’m so relieved for you

hi @orangelotus hope you’re feeling better this morning

I had a good bit to drink on Sat night, ended up getting bf to stop car twice on way home to be sick, but ozempic related sickness and it wasn't heaving vomiting ifykwim.

Scales showed 13st13.75lbs on Sun morn Grin, it's back up with drink bloat now to 14st1 but I know being in the 13s isn't too far away now.

That's amazing!

Oigetoffmylawn · 16/01/2023 10:04

So week 1 weigh in and I've lost 3lbs, which I'm really happy with.

But even better than that I've had:

0 episodes of emotional eating
0 episodes of binging
0 desire to binge
The weight is coming off my love handles first, which is in reverse to any other weight loss I've done!
I've eaten what I want, when I want but stopped when I've felt full.
I've been able to recognise fullness much more easily and I have 0 desire to eat past fullness. Its not that eating past fullness gives unpleasant side-effects (it may but I've had 0 side effects), it's that the desire to do so has completely vanished.

This is how I felt when I was naturally managing my weight. This medicine is amazing!

Just taken my second dose!

How did you get on - were things ok in the end? I had this on Saturday which was my last day before the second injection and ate lots of cheese and crackers in the afternoon. I did feel sick afterwards but thankfully wasn’t sick. Also, prior to being on Ozempic I would have thought f’it and gone on to have other foods I fancied too, but this time was able to stop after the cheese and then didn’t bother with dinner to try and make up some of the excess calories!

Fantastic, that’s amazing! This makes me hopeful that I might see similar results, I am one week in and have dropped a notch on my coat belt buckle. DH was also really complimentary about visible weight loss on my face and how much better my clothes are fitting already!

Abeachsomewhere · 16/01/2023 10:34

Day 9 today and I still haven’t had many side effects, only some occasional mild nausea and a funny taste in my mouth when I haven’t eaten for a few hours. I do also have some insomnia on the night of the day I do the injection but, if last week is anything to go by, this disappears fairly quickly.

I did have a blip on the afternoon of the last day before my second injection but was able to control it which would never have happened before. It’s a revelation not to be feeling hungry/craving sugar all the time. For the first time in years, I feel positive that I have finally found a way to tackle my weight!
