I started ozempic last night

Going to log my experience here as a journal and also to help others if interested.

having gone hungry to lose 5lbs earlier this year and then stalled because I’m always hungry, I put 4lbs back on. Being v pear shaped I never have a belly, but now it sticks out and digs in and clothes are uncomfortable. Doing more exercise makes no difference. It is clear that will power simply doesn’t work for me.

I took my first dose (0.25mg) last night. Woke up around 2.30 with pain at the injection site which passed. Was v thirsty so gulped water which just seemed to sit there. A couple of small burps. Got back to sleep. Weirdly vivid dreams. This morning, not particularly hungry first thing.

Day 4 crazy vivid dreams and all I’ve managed is a chicken salad at 12pm and still not hungry. Little constipated but hardly surprising seen as barely eating, no other side effects so far. Wow!!!:)))

I have incredibly vivid dreams on Oz. Last night I was giving birth to quads (in my childhood home). I'm 55 and post menopausal! It felt so real I felt so weird when i woke up. I can remember my dreams as well.

I think my scales are broken. I appear to have lost 9lbs in a week 🤔 I weighed at roughly the same time when I got up, no clothes, after going to the toilet. Even the scales didn't want to register the weight on my app as they said the difference was too large. Oh well, at least there has been some kind of loss even if that much is an anomaly. I measured myself as well and there does appear to be shrinkage in my measurements although I am never 100% convinced that I measure in the same way (tightness of tape, place on my body) each time.

I'm 9 days in, still have a reduced appetite, although I do struggle with portion control when eating things I love. I need to learn to recognise when I'm full and stop eating, instead of carrying on just because I'm enjoying what I'm eating.

Ugggh, day 14 today and I've lost a grand total of 1lb. I came on over night, so hoping that's the reason behind so little loss 🤞 have no idea what to do it it's not - I'm eating almost nothing atm!

Oh yuck. Don't want to share anything with that absolute douche.

HermioneWeasley · 15/01/2023 10:32

Wow - so many people starting and some great results.

those who are having a slower start, don’t worry. You’ll see on the thread people have all different experiences. If you’re eating less, the weight will come off.

I think we are going to need a second thread - I’ll start it closer to this one being full

Starting ozempic tomorrow. What's the best time to inject? I'm so nervous it's ridiculous! Do I need to store it in the fridge.? I really don't want my husband and kids to know that I am on it. Have I mentioned that I'm nervous?!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 15/01/2023 12:10

I think the time of day doesn't make a difference. I have found that any side effects kick in after a few days. But other people do react more quickly. I keep mine in the fridge but I think as long as you use it within 6 weeks you don't have to do that. Good luck - you may find tomorrow a bit of an anticlimax. Hope it works well for you.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 15/01/2023 12:15

Karmakamelion didn't it come with an instruction booklet? Keep it in the fridge until you do the first dose (you must read the whole booklet first so that you know how to prime it before first use). Then store it anywhere that is below 30ºC.

If you don't want anyone to see it, then keep it in the vegetable drawer in the fridge. Nobody ever goes in there in this house. But, honestly, it's just a boring looking box. I kept mine a door shelf in the fridge and no-one took any interest in it at all.

HermioneWeasley · 15/01/2023 12:36

Welcome @Karmakamelion . I was so anxious when I started so I sympathise.

pens have to be refrigerated before they are used, but after the first dose can be kept at room temp (as long at below 25C).

I watched some YouTube videos on how to inject but it really is straightforward. As soon as you’ve done it once you’ll be away.

I inject early evening and often only have a light snack for dinner because it takes effect very quickly for me.

I was nervous too. Only took my first dose on Thursday. Definitely agree with it being an anti climax!

One of the things that I missed in the instructions and must do next time is leaving it in for 6 seconds in order to get the full dose.

That’s fantastic, well done - you must be thrilled!

I’ve lost a similar amount in my first week and was able to go down a notch on my coat belt buckle this morning.

Abeachsomewhere · 15/01/2023 13:42

I took my second dose this morning but am a bit worried as I noticed a tiny blob of fluid on the injection site afterwards, even though I held the pen in for a good six seconds after the injection. Does this mean I haven’t had the full dose?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 15/01/2023 13:57

Abeachsomewhere you may not have got the full dose. The nurse who did my induction said to count to 10 to be sure. However, I wouldn't worry about it. Just carry on as normal and leave the needle in a little bit longer the next time.

Oh no, that’s what I feared 😭 As I’m only on 0.25 anyway I hope I still get the same appetite suppression for this next week. I’ll make sure I hold the pen in for 10 seconds next time!

Lovely to see lots of newbies and to hear some amazing losses.
I've just taken my 2nd dose of 1mg.
I've lost just over a stone and a half so far, although 6 pounds of that was over Christmas as I had COVID and was really poorly.
Since I've been on 1mg I haven't felt much appetite suppression unfortunately, so I've not lost anything for the last week. Quite strange as I lost so much in the first month and apparently most people lose the most weight after increasing the dose to 1mg. Hey ho, I'm carrying on regardless as I've got another stone to lose.
On a positive note, since I've started the medication, my attitude to food has changed completely. I haven't binged at all and I don't think about food 24/7, which I used to. That in itself is worth the ££ and side-effects, as I hope it means maintaining the weight will be (dare-I-say) easier.
NSV - I wore a pair of trousers today that I bought in March 2021. They were a little tight back then, and I've never actually worn them as I put on weight. Today they were roomy 😁

Straycatblue · 15/01/2023 16:51

@butterflyawayhome - thank you!

Can I ask everyone, does it stop emotional eating?
I don't always suffer from hunger but do emotional eat

Does it get rid of that emotional urge or does it stop it by default because you physically don't want to eat ?
