I started ozempic last night

Going to log my experience here as a journal and also to help others if interested.

having gone hungry to lose 5lbs earlier this year and then stalled because I’m always hungry, I put 4lbs back on. Being v pear shaped I never have a belly, but now it sticks out and digs in and clothes are uncomfortable. Doing more exercise makes no difference. It is clear that will power simply doesn’t work for me.

I took my first dose (0.25mg) last night. Woke up around 2.30 with pain at the injection site which passed. Was v thirsty so gulped water which just seemed to sit there. A couple of small burps. Got back to sleep. Weirdly vivid dreams. This morning, not particularly hungry first thing.

My goodness, is this how normal people feel? I didn’t expect to have such immediate effects, but I’m not ravenously hungry ALL THE TIME. After I eat, I feel full. I’m not craving sugary stuff. It’s incredible, like someone haas flicked a switch.

perhaps I wasn’t a weak willed greedy hippo, perhaps I just had an imbalance?

Hi @HermioneWeasley I had the exact same reaction when I started Ozempic, it was such a relief not to have a ‘dialled up’ appetite.

I have lost weight but not vast amounts and I’m currently on a rather long plateau. I do feel a lot better though.

I think I’m right in saying if I eat whatever I want and do the exercise which is a natural part of my life Ozempic controls my appetite enough to stop me piling on the pounds. I want to start losing again and that means I need to focus, particularly on my food. I’m tempted to join Slimming World or something just to get a bit of encouragement.

I wish you every success in giving up bullying yourself for overeating 😁.

I’m also hoping you have minimal side effects and maximum enjoyment of good food.

I start tomorrow. Feeling a bit nervous about it. I'm on it because of my diabetes co-morbidities. I'd like to drop a few kilos as well.

Wallywobbles · 08/10/2022 06:35

I'm on week 3. The only effect it's had, in terms of calories in, is alcohol which has reduced dramatically.

I felt shit for the first 2 weeks though. Then took a very large dose of vit D and feel a lot better.

I infect in my thigh. No pain.

buttons123456 · 08/10/2022 06:37

Did you get it on the nhs or buy it ?

HermioneWeasley · 08/10/2022 08:30

Thank you @Beedance

HermioneWeasley · 08/10/2022 08:33

@buttons123456 i bought it privately through Juniper

it’s morning of day 3 and no side effects yet. Im
on this dose (0.25) for 4 weeks so hopefully that will continue as I keep taking it and then step up.

I’m on holiday in a few weeks when my dose is due and I don’t know what to do as the pen has to be refrigerated and I don’t think I’ll be able to

Cool! Good luck 🤞

Beedance · 08/10/2022 13:39

Check with a pharmacist, may be ok in a small cool bag if only for a day.

Also a pharmacist recently explained to me how long it stays in the system and how slowly releases so you might be ok taking it a day or two early or late depending when home.

HermioneWeasley · 12/10/2022 12:02

Due my second injection tonight.

the impact on my hunger and sugar cravings has worn off partially but is better than before.

I’ve lost 3lbs (but had just come off a couple of BIG weeks and was very bloated, but I don’t think it’s really as much as that). I haven’t ever felt deprived or not eaten anything, just been fuller quicker and longer and without sugar cravings,

i’m going out for dinner tonight and will inject when I get home and need to remember to eat light because of slower stomach emptying!

I did my first injection on Monday night. I've had mild nausea and complete lack of appetite since then. A bit surprised at how fast it has kicked in for me. I'm down a few 100 grams which is also surprising.

HermioneWeasley · 12/10/2022 12:41

Hi @LovelaceBiggWither , sorry to hear about the nausea- is it manageable? I’ve had a lot of burping but so far that’s it.

OP posts:
LovelaceBiggWither · 12/10/2022 13:42

It's mild compared to some of the stories I've read. I've got reglan and will use it if things get too bad.

I'm hoping I can stay at a low dose until the ozempic shortage is over (it's impossible to get here in Australia).

LovelaceBiggWither · 12/10/2022 13:49

Oh and I hope your sulfur burps calm down. They sound unpleasant.

HermioneWeasley · 12/10/2022 14:30

Thanks @LovelaceBiggWither . They’re not sulphur burps, just regular ones so manageable if not very classy!

Interested in trying this but concerned about the cost- how much is this monthly please

HermioneWeasley · 12/10/2022 20:57

@workiskillingme juniper charge £195 a month regardless of dose, so when you’re on a low dose you could probably buy it cheaper but it probably works out over a year

OP posts:
Cantonet · 12/10/2022 23:10

Health express is much cheaper.
I've just bought the 1 mg strength for £149 which is in very short supply. I think the lower strengths are £139. This is the third time I've bought from there & it's an efficient & straightforward process.

HermioneWeasley · 13/10/2022 12:14

I’ve got a code for £50 off (and I get a £50 voucher for full disclosure) so DM me if interested

I'm on day 5 of .25. I've lost 1500 grams in the first 5 days. I am having trouble adjusting to not being hungry. The nausea has settled but I am sure that will be back with the next dose.

Tonight it was DS's birthday so he chose Nandos. I ate a 1/4 of chicken and about a 1/3 of my fries (normally I would have eaten all of mine and a good portion of DH's). It was odd, I wanted to finish eating the fries but my brain said no. In the end I went and sat outside away from the food. There's birthday cake in the fridge and I genuinely don't want any.

HermioneWeasley · 14/10/2022 19:31

Amazing @LovelaceBiggWither.

I started on Ozempic in February of this year have lost nearly 3 stone to date. After my first month at 0.25mg, I moved up to 0.5 and have been on that ever since. I’ve been lucky as I had zero side effects from the off. The only thing I noticed was if I foolishly if try and override the signal to stop eating by squeezing in desert, I feel sick and have the runs afterwards. I love the freedom of just not being hungry, being able to feel full with much smaller portions just not craving food, especially carbs. I’m now only losing 1lb here and there each week which I’m more than happy with as I met my target weight at 2.5 stone. Anything else is just for vanity now rather than health! I’m the slimmest and healthiest I have ever been my entire life and made it possible for me to start enjoying running again.

Really pleased and happy to stay on it forever if need be. It’s been a real game changer and only thing that has worked for me in years of dieting. It’s also so much cheaper here than in the US - I forgot to pack my pen when we went to Florida this summer and looked into buying one whilst we there. It was over $1K for one months supply at 0.5mg! I get mine from Healthcare Express for £139 per pen.

Good luck with your journey OP, hope it all works out for you.

Thanks @Intemperatefatty , that’s a very inspiring post!

Great Post. How long does a pen last you?
