Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! September Thread here’s October’s Thread.

Dare I say it’s officially the 12 Week Count Down to Christmas 🎄😬 There is still time (for those who want to) for a complete body/mind/fitness overhaul before the festivities and family get together commence 🥳 Plus, who doesn’t want to start 2023 feeling more energised, fitter and svelte!

Jump right into October! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Sorry to see you're feeling down on yourself, Cloud. Pregnancy and the aftermath can play havoc with your body and, iirc, your lo is still so small - be easier on yourself... either that, or embrace naturism and dispense with the clothes altogether 😉 A lady I knew at work was a naturist - although not at work, thankfully - and I so admired her 'fuck it' attitude and total body confidence - takes all sorts, after all!

CrimsonAlligator · 23/10/2022 00:08

@Cloudberries123 sorry you’re feeling low. I second @fallfallfall ’s suggestion to get a few things that work for you at the size you are at the moment (budget allowing of course). It’s so much harder to stick to a diet when you’re not feeling good about yourself.

I noticed you said you don’t mind how you look without clothes on. That made me wonder if you’re picking things that actually flatter your body shape. This website is really helpful for working out what types of tops, trousers etc work for different body shapes - there are guides for different body shapes towards the bottom of the page. Just thought I’d share in case it helps 🙂

milkfromthesleepycow · 23/10/2022 10:55

@Cloudberries123 agree with @CrimsonAlligator and @fallfallfall - get yourself onto vinted or down to the shops and buy some interim clothes!

It may seem a little contrary but feeling bad about how you look doesn't help with weight loss. It's about adding healthier things to your life, not beating yourself because you're not good enough.

Back when I started this (January? Seems like the dark ages!) I promised myself a whole new wardrobe when I got to my target. But actually I got some new day to day wear (2 pairs of jeans, some t shirts and a hoodie!) about May. It made such a difference to my mind set- for a start I wasn't flicking through my wardrobe trying to put together an outfit that didn't make me look like aunt sally every morning!!

I still have my pre-pregnancy trousers. I don't think I'll fit in them even when I get to target due to the body shape change.

Mindset has adjusted to that, I now look at them quite fondly as something I've put aside for the kids (who are currently fighting over the Xbox controller, maybe this was a bad trade 😂)

milkfromthesleepycow · 23/10/2022 10:57

And naturism is a viable alternative

I'm not sure my neighbours will appreciate it @SanFranBear 😂

Cloudberries123 · 23/10/2022 12:07

Thanks for the sane words fallfallfall, SanFranBear, Crimson and milk, they've put me back on an attitude of kindness towards myself.

I had actually intended those charity finds to be 'interim clothes' while I lose weight, so it was depressing to see how most of them were too small...

I'm going to look at that link you provided CrimsonAlligator when I've finished writing this. You're right, I'm probably not wearing things that flatter me at the moment, but... where to start with it all, especially now my body is changing even MORE due to weight loss.

Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday x

SanFranBear · 23/10/2022 20:33

Have had a really good day, both 'diet' wise, exercise wise and just in a general family way.

I'm way under my daily calories despite having a lovely breakfast of boiled eggs (but eaten very late so skipped lunch) and then a gammon roast for tea. I also made it out for a daylight 17k hike this afternoon and, despite getting absolutely soaked through, thoroughly enjoyed myself and loved the peace and quiet after the last few days at home.

Then got home and spent some lovely time with DS and DD independently which I rarely get to do.. just a really lovely Sunday.

I've also potentially found a house so need to call the estate agent first thing (feel like taking it, sight unseen as its exactly where we need it, has the right number of rooms and I can definitely afford it!)

I've got tomorrow off (only day this week) so could spell a little danger on the food front as determined to head out in some shape or fashion. Depending on house viewing, either the local science centre or pumpkin picking... Will pack a lunch either way to try and stay on the straight and narrow. I did bake yesterday but went fairly light with some Mary Berry Pinwheel biscuits which I worked out are about 75 calories each..

Right, sorry for the waffle - hope everyone has also had a lovely day and hit their mini goals, whatever they might have been!

TheRealHousewife · 23/10/2022 20:48

Hi I’ve just lost my post. Ready to get in bath so won’t try to replicate it.

Shout out to @Cloudberries123 Your body has made a little person and gone through a lot. You will get there, it just takes time. I could hear the despair in your post and I wished to send a reassuring hug ❤️

Night All 😊

Cloudberries123 · 24/10/2022 16:27

Thank you very much RealHousewife that is no small thing, you're right!

A good day so far in terms of feeling that I've got a handle on my food instead of it having a handle on me:

Late breakfast - 1 slice sunflower seed bread, 1 normal toast, houmous, cream cheese (separately!). Banana. Mocha coffee.

Lunch - chicken and veg pizza

Snack - 1 slice toast with peanut butter. Tea.

Dinner - chilli con carne with undecided carb...

Have a good start to the week, everyone!

TheRealHousewife · 24/10/2022 18:16

Meal 1 - Corn tortilla omelette. Small piece of gf mince slice.
Meal 2 - Hake, crushed potatoes and nero cavello. Tarragon sauce
Tea, black coffee and water.

ImALittlePea · 24/10/2022 20:20

Evening all 😊

Thanks everyone for being so kind and sending well wishes last week. We've really been through the ringer in the last few weeks; I felt very much on the brink of depression off the back of a few of the things that were happening, my DH ended up taking some emergency A/L to give me/us the extra support we needed. TOUCH WOOD, I think we're emerging out the other side. I'm still tired from the relentlessness of everything, and physically recovering from some minor planned surgery that happened in the midst of it all, but ready to don my 'onwards we go' mantra once more.

Fridays weigh in was a slight gain, which I fully expected and wasn't as much as I thought it'd be (we had SUCH a bad food week, lots of takeaways!) - I'm back in the 10s, but only by a smidge. I've not been particularly watching what I've been eating/drinking, but I'm hopefully being mindful enough to not pile too many lbs on this week. If I can stick to below 10st 1lb then I don't lose my 1.5 stone achievement - which would be nice.

Although having said that - it's half term, which is always a trickier one. We're going to be out and about less than normal though as I'm still getting back on my feet, so hopefully that'll help keep me more on track.

I haven't properly caught up on the thread yet - if I get enough headspace to do so I will but I hope no-one is offended if I don't. I think you're all ruddy marvellous though ❤️

TheRealHousewife · 24/10/2022 21:15

@ImALittlePea Pleased to read your update! These are Super Woman Pants > 🩲 Wear over clothes and you’ll be bullet proof. Although it already sounds like you’ve been SuperWoman 🦸‍♀️ Well done on your astute husband taking A/L … priceless ❤️

Here’s to a quick post surgery recovery and hoping for calmer waters for you all.

Thinking of you LittlePea

Rough start to the day here with broken sleep and a moody baby in a growth spurt. Food good so far - tea, sunflower seed toast with avocado. Got to stay on top of the hydration today and just make it to when my partner gets home! 😵

fallfallfall · 25/10/2022 11:47

Bonjour from hilly Grasse. Yesterday 13,000 steps which included a hike. I’m seriously dehydrated and I miss my water bottle.
Ongoing positive thoughts for everyone and :) to read @ImALittlePea update.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 25/10/2022 14:03

Afternoon to all of you...

Breakfast was blueberries, greek yogurt, honey and granola.
Had cheese omelette, half jacket potato and broccoli, carrot and cauliflower dinner last night. Quiche lorraine, rice (palm sized), and salad (cherry tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce) for lunch and 2 satsumas. Had 2 slices of homemade plum/nectarine flapjack and 2 Kallo lentil cakes with big chunk of Cathedral City light cheese.

This morning: Blueberries, alpen light, milk for breakfast.
Lunch: falafel and salad and houmous flatbread/panini toasted
Snacks - nothing so far, nectarine is staring at me plus slice of orange polenta cake
Dinner: Bean meal or quiche meal with jacket potato half and veg.

Exercise yesterday: 25 minutes round park then 40 minutes walk in evening.
Exercise today: 25 minutes round park then will be walk to bus stop and walk back from hairdresser later.

SanFranBear · 25/10/2022 22:51

Another not bad day here - under my calories, just... which is just as well really as I've sat on my bum all day.

Missed out on the house which was a real shame as it would've been perfect for us but due to that damn Cost of Living, the affordability scale has ramped up ridiculously as despite earning well, I don't earn enough (apparently!) Looks like we might have to look in a very different (slightly shitty) area of the city which might make the DC's trek to school hideous... but needs must. Its just so stressful and I want to bury my face in all the Halloween sweets I've bought for next week!

Lovely to see you pop in, LittlePea - hope things continue to improve.

Your holiday sounds like its going well, fallfall. Are you away much longer - a while I'm guessing as you're still visiting your DC, aren't you?

Did you resist the polenta cake, GottaGetGoing? Not sure I would have!

Hope your day improved, Cloud! And hope you've also had a good one, RealHousewife.. almost halfway to the weekend - whoop!

A pound off this week and I'm happy with that. I'm still eating around 12000 to 14000 calories a day and I don't want to reduce that. I guess I'll have to at some point. Particularly as I expect I'll be walking less as the weather deteriorates!

SW 15 st
CW 11 st 12lb

Sorry you might have to choose a house in a tricky area @SanFranBear . Is it absolutely imperative that you move?
Enjoy your holiday @fallfallfall . It all sounds great. Why are you missing your water bottle? Could you get a new one?
Wishing everyone a good week and massive thanks to @TheRealHousewife for keeping us all going.

TheRealHousewife · 26/10/2022 09:12

Good Morning Everyone

WOW - Oups up a 1lb 🫣 - Being on point in the hope I finish the month with a slight loss or STS. 🤞

@fallfallfall @GonnaGetGoingReturns Great amount of steps/exercise 👍👏. Exercise is my downfall and I do what I can. I wished I had more energy/ability to do more. Very frustrating!

@SanFranBear sorry to read you’ve missed out on the house you wanted. That must be so disappointing for you all. The rental market is crazy mad at the moment. Fingers crossed you get something suitable soon!

@wannadisc0 It’s Frustrating this weight loss malarkey. You'll get there, keep going. Overall you’re a stone down 👍

@Lizsmum You’re very welcome. Am I having a brain fart or have you put in an extra 0 in cals. 12000 sounds a lot 😬 Well done on your loss 👏

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made tomato soup. 3 Nairns GF crackers.
Meal 2 - Chicken fajitas.
Tea, black coffee & water 💧 < Didn’t get enough water in yesterday!

Exercise

Session 2 - 10 Minutes hand weights

@TheRealHousewife oh yes --12000 might be too much even on a very active day!

Cloudberries123 · 26/10/2022 09:17

12000-14000 calories a day, Lizsmum I'm sure I've done that a few times 😉

A 300g loss for me this week, which sounds like more if I say over half a pound! Mind you this is before I've been to the loo (sorry for tmi) so the true figure might be lower!

SW: 100.4kg (September)
CW: 98.6KG
Mini goal: 95kg

Good start to the day feeling rested and having coffee, yoghurt and Alpen. Lunch and dinner undecided but got a fair bit of walking planned for today.

Well done all, whether you lose, sts or gain!

I don't think the walking really counts as exercise though - or so someone else said!

@SanFranBear - sorry about missing out on the house, that is a pain.

Yes, I did succumb to the orange polenta cake.

Last night's dinner was bean meal stew with jacket potato, grated cheese and avocado and had a tiny chocolate wafer and 1 BBQ hula hoops and Lindt milk chocolate hazelnut bar.

No weigh in yet, got nasty cold and praying it's not Covid as my colleague has it for the first time!

MirandaWest · 26/10/2022 10:16

Weighed myself this morning - haven't been tracking my calories but still doing OK as am down a little bit from last week.

Don't think I'll manage a 2kg loss for October but should be over 1kg.

Had a great parkrun last Saturday - felt I could go for it and got a new PB for that course (which is always a bit more than 5km due to the path you take and so my parkrun time was 30.02 and my 5k time was 29.06! Haven't done 5k that quickly in many years!)

And I've been buying some clothes today including some where I bought two sizes and the smaller size fitted. All good things.

Working morning and evening today so planning a 10km run when I stop at 12:30. Is very mild here so I think the crop top will be out again.

CassandraBarrett · 26/10/2022 11:27

SW 64.4kg

CW 60.4kg

GW 59kg

I saw an even 60kg on the scales earlier this week!
I've been having lots of cake and bread this week so I need to knock that on the head.
Got my size smaller knickers out of my storage box yesterday so that's a good thing 😊

CassandraBarrett · 26/10/2022 11:30

Well done @MirandaWest on the Park run time and the clothes purchase!
@Cloudberries123 🤣🤣 I prefer the post-loo measurements too

TheRealHousewife · 26/10/2022 15:46

Good Afternoon All

@CassandraBarrett Smaller knickers is an excellent NSV 😬

@MirandaWest Congrats on all your improvements and loss this week; especially obtaining a new PB 👍🏅

@GonnaGetGoingReturns I think it’s been proved that walking is beneficial for balancing blood sugars/insulin resistance if carried out after eating 👍
