🍁LOSE IT! October 2022🍁12 WEEK COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS 🎄

Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! September Thread here’s October’s Thread.

Dare I say it’s officially the 12 Week Count Down to Christmas 🎄😬 There is still time (for those who want to) for a complete body/mind/fitness overhaul before the festivities and family get together commence 🥳 Plus, who doesn’t want to start 2023 feeling more energised, fitter and svelte!

Jump right into October! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

It's my weigh day and another 'almost half a kilo' down - I am delighted:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 69.5kg
October GW: 69kg

Means there's a 10 at the start of my weight which I would never have believed possible. Weight loss is slowing significantly but I am not being nearly as strict and its still going the right direction so I can't complain. And means October GW should be reachable - hooray!

An e sleepover sounds great, milk! Definitely something DS could get into...

15kg is pretty hefty, Allthegoodnames - well done! I don't lift at all but I know how good it is supposed to be for us women so perhaps I should start wearing ankle weights when I walk (I totally won't, though 😆)

Not sure of weekend plans but start of Half Term so feel like should do something with the DC... shall get my thinking cap on! Happy Friday everyone!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 21/10/2022 08:34

@SanFranBear congrats on the loss, you are well on track for the october goal!
I don't lift like olympic lifting but I really enjoy crossfit classes as they're really varied with some weight stuff, cardio, etc. We generally use kettlebells and dumbells although occasionally the bars get brought out and then I feel like a real pro Grin. It has done wonders for me in terms of being fitter and stronger in day to day life. I get great satisfaction at being able to lift, carry, move things etc. without needing help from a man

CrimsonAlligator · 21/10/2022 09:34

Well done @SanFranBear and great that there is some progress on the scales for you too @Allthegoodnamestakken !

I had a terrible night sleep after becoming really feverish last night. I feel a little bit better this morning, so hopefully that was just my body trying to swiftly deal with this latest bug.

I’ve been watching a thread on AIBU about low carb eating for the last few days. It’s quite shocking how strong some people’s feelings are - both in favour and against low carb. It made me appreciate these threads even more, where we are all just doing our thing, without judgement. Thanks for enabling that @TheRealHousewife 🙏

TheRealHousewife · 21/10/2022 10:07

Good Morning Everyone

@SanFranBear Thats reassuring 👍And congratulations on your loss 👏🏅It’s a lovely feeling when we drop into another stone bracket 😬

@Allthegoodnamestakken Thats great progress both on your loss and on the weights. Well done 👏🏅

@CrimsonAlligator Fever is the bodies defence mechanism at work. Hopefully it’s seen the virus off 🦠 Thank you, that’s kind of you to say 🙏 Thats the ethos of these threads. There is no one size fits all. We are all unique and generally we each know what works for us. As long as a deficit is created whilst maintaining a nutritious and balanced diet alls good. I do go lower carb but not ‘low carb’ as fibre is so important for our guts…. ‘Sneaks off to have a nosy at thread ….. 😬’

Menu
Meal 1 - Corn tortilla omelette.
Meal 2 - ? Actually I don’t know yet 😬
Tea, black coffee, water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Yoga 15 minutes
Session 2 - LS short video

Enjoy your Friday 😊

Bonjour from Montreal. Yes lovely family time. 13,000 steps yesterday, and I finally organized the water bottle.
all this walking is my dh and I going back and forth between my brother and my mothers place, plus taking her dog around the block for her. Attached is a photo of the salad bar/deli where we go to for quiet time. One of the salads is celeriac with mustard seed, one other interesting one is palm hearts with peppers. Both are very yummy!!

Hi @fallfallfall ’waving’ that salad bar looks right up my street 😋

Lizsmum · 21/10/2022 14:53

Oooh - salads like that are my favourite things to eat! Please may I join you in Montreal @fallfallfall ?

SanFranBear · 21/10/2022 15:38

Oooh, that bean'y one on the left looks so tasty, fallfall - and pottering between family and walking dogs sounds like a lovely way to spend some time!

Also just wanted to 'third' the thanks to you, RealHousewife - some of the other threads are very, uhm, robust... especially outside of the Weight Loss area. Agree that we're all individuals, doing our own thing and that's why it feels like this thread works. That and your gentle encouragement, RealHousewife - it's nice and cosy round these parts!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 21/10/2022 16:52

Friday check in. Had oatsosimple with blueberries and skimmed milk then slimasoup minestrone with 3 quorn mini eggs and 2 Dairylea triangles for snack (in 3.5 hour meeting...) for lunch I had whole tub of charlotte baby potato salad and 2 scotch eggs - feel awful but hey ho.

Yesterday had plain toast for breakfast with spread and then when in office had again 3 quorn mini eggs and 2 Dairylea triangles but half pot of some Thai Pea and Mint soup for lunch (it was vile, thanks Sainsburys!) with a slice of pumpernickel bread. Had mini twix, slice of chocolate yule log and teeny bits of guacamole on tortilla chips - office snacks and had bean meal with yogurt and avocado and cheese with mashed potato. also had 1 tangerine. Had some tahini and chocolate healthy bite thing from Gails on way home.

Tonight out for Lebanese meal and drinks with friends.

Next week/this weekend I will be better. Had slight cold but not cold but not been interested in fruit at all apart from odd tangerine/satsuma.

Walking did usual probably just under 1 hour but nothing amazing.

fallfallfall · 22/10/2022 03:32

Over 15,000 steps today, and my salad had pickled turnips and falafels!
it’s my last full day visiting my mom, we’re getting teary :(, she’s 90 next month!

Cloudberries123 · 22/10/2022 08:15

Ah bless you fallfallfall, I live far away from my mum too, and it's not easy. Glad that the food is good and the steps are up there!

TheRealHousewife · 22/10/2022 09:51

Good Morning Everyone

@fallfallfall ❤️

@SanFranBear Thats very kind of you to say 🙏Thank you! It’s the collective ladies that really make it 😊

@GonnaGetGoingReturns There are quite a few viruses around at the moment. Here’s hoping you feel better soon. Nothing worse than feeling blaaaa .

Menu
Meal 1 - Mediterranean Omelette.
Meal 2 - Fish, carrots, peas & parsley sauce.
Tea, black coffee and water.

PS NINE WEEKS TO CHRISTMAS EVE 🎄😬

Good morning.

B - toasted ciabatta and butter
L/D - probably some quorn & sauce & gnocchi (going for a lazy day here, something I can do in minutes)

I bought some Mstcha tea pods that can be made in the nespresoo machine. God, it’s vile. What am I doing wrong?

milkfromthesleepycow · 22/10/2022 12:02

Morning all
7.5mile run done- feeling virtuous!

Will miss WOW this week as we're off to London for half term. The kids are SO excited. I'm planning on switching off a bit and destressing from work. Will try and make sensible choices around food but not going to restrict really. Maybe a couple of runs and the hotel has a gym

Fingers crossed I'll find a salad bar like fallfallfalls. Sadly I suspect I'm an ocean away 😂

Now just got to get the house clean and packing done before Monday!!

Wishing everyone a good weekend

fallfallfall · 22/10/2022 12:48

We’ve also been able to delay “breakfast” and instead have brunch but despite salads I’ve indulged in chai latte’s, pastry, and the occasional. Hopefully not too much weight gain. I know I’m dehydrated. I have no doubt I’m getting 1litre in just not the second.

Cloudberries123 · 22/10/2022 13:49

@LadyWithLapdog There's nothing you can do. Matcha tastes like dry rot 😂

My weekend so far:
Breakfast - cappuccino and sandwich at café

Lunch - fried eggs with 2-3tbsp leftover mash. Salad leaves. Dark chocolate square, raspberries, Greek yoghurt. Tea

Dinner - tbc, but aiming for low carb as I've had quite a lot already today.

Exercise - normal baby-bouncing stuff, and a bit of walking round the shops. Nothing very strenuous as I'm quite tired.

Happy weekend everyone 😊

LadyWithLapdog · 22/10/2022 13:52

@Cloudberries123 thanks for confirming. I’ve got 9 left to go through. Maybe I’ll keep them as the equivalent of pineapple in the fruit bowl, to look interesting to any visitors (who don’t know me).

CrimsonAlligator · 22/10/2022 14:36

@LadyWithLapdog , I don’t know anything about nespresso machines, but do those use different water temperatures for different drinks? Green tea made with boiling water is awful, but if it’s made at about 80 degrees, it’s a totally different thing.

I really want a salad bar like @fallfallfall‘s. That all looks delicious 😋

I can’t remember who mentioned Lebanese lentil & kale soup a while ago, but it’s been on my mind ever since. I finally made some yesterday (adapting a recipe for Arabian lentil soup). It was....not good 😂 The worst bit is that it made a huge amount and I hate throwing away food, so will have to have some more tonight. At least it’s packed full of healthy vegetables...just as well as my cold just isn’t shifting and I feel like shit. Ugh!

Enjoy your break @milkfromthesleepycow. Spending time in London is always fun

LadyWithLapdog · 22/10/2022 15:18

Thank you for the tip about the water temperature for Matcha tea. I’ll try and open a pod (without cutting my fingers in the process) and use the powder or leaves.

SanFranBear · 22/10/2022 15:38

Sorry, CrimsonAlligator, but your soup woes made me smile... I too refuse to throw food away, especially at the moment, so have eaten things which in my more wasteful years would have gone straight in the bin! To be honest, lentil and kale doesn't sound too fantastic a combo... sorry! Should keep you, ahem, moving at least 😉

Lazy day here - went to the cinema this morning as ticket prices were actually reasonable (old film though!) and now DD and friend have disappeared into town and DS playing his new video game, I'm in the mood for baking! Need it to be fairly healthy though as ate about half a ton of mini chocolate fingers yesterday (and would do it again - they were FANTASTIC!)

I'm not sure I've ever had matcha (only really seen it on Bake Off!) and no-one here is selling it to me... its green, isn't it? What does it come from - I'm off for a Google.

Hope your last full day with your mum is lovely, fallfall.

LadyWithLapdog · 22/10/2022 17:02

Looks like it’s made of seaweed, this green frothiness.

🍁LOSE IT! October 2022🍁12 WEEK COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS 🎄
Cloudberries123 · 22/10/2022 17:36

It's sort of OK if it's added in to other things (I think I've had matcha in baked goods) but as a standalone drink, I just don't get it. And I actually like green tea!

Went round some charity shops with friends this afternoon and got half a dozen nice tops for cheap. Just tried them on and now feel really fat.

Dealing with it in my habitual way of eating my feelings... But at least it's just dark chocolate and Rich Tea biscuits, as I've switched to healthier options thanks to this thread.

I think the problem is, pre-pregnancy I already knew I had put on weight. And now I'm heavier and my body shape has also changed. And I'm just wearing a frumpy mishmash of clothes until I've slimmed down enough that I feel I don't want to hide in clothes any more. Ugh...

The funny thing is, there's actually lots of things I appreciate about my mum bod. And I think I look OK naked! It's just putting clothes on that turns me into a lumpy, bumpy mess... 🙄

Thanks for reading this far if you have. Nearly finished my cup of tea (and snacks!) and that'll be enough pity party and it'll be time to make dinner.

fallfallfall · 22/10/2022 21:34

@Cloudberries123, unless necessary, life is too short to not look good even in loungewear. Weight loss and maintaining that loss can be a long slow process. Please feel good in whatever clothing you choose. EVEN if it’s only 2 tops, two trousers and two pairs of cute socks…maybe a new bra and slippers.
matcha indeed is an acquired taste, not for me…
