🍁LOSE IT! October 2022🍁12 WEEK COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS 🎄

Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! September Thread here’s October’s Thread.

Dare I say it’s officially the 12 Week Count Down to Christmas 🎄😬 There is still time (for those who want to) for a complete body/mind/fitness overhaul before the festivities and family get together commence 🥳 Plus, who doesn’t want to start 2023 feeling more energised, fitter and svelte!

Jump right into October! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

@MirandaWest Well done on the race!
@fallfallfall have a good trip! enjoy all the lovely food you can get back to it in November.

I went shopping yesterday and bought a new dress and coat for a wedding i'm going to next month. Was nice feeling good enough to try on styles I wouldn't have dared to before. I went for a bright pink coat and navy dress which is very unlike me but i've found as i'm feeling more confident in myself I am really enjoying wearing more bright colours instead of the dark 'slimming' ones.
Plan today is
Lunch - Either eggs or porridge depending on if I fancy sweet or savory
Dinner- Roasted vegetable wraps

ImALittlePea · 17/10/2022 09:35

Morning. Unfortunately another blue start to the week over here. Following a very enjoyable (and I don't think particularly overly indulgent) weekend, DD spiked a temperature in the night so after a very sleepless night is home instead of nursery again today. I'm so behind on work as she couldn't go at all last week, I really needed her to go as normal this week. Can't be helped, of course, just adds pressure to the rest of the month. Thankfully she's in good enough spirits but it's just not nice when they're under the weather, is it.

Anyway, we shall cope. I'll have to try and work in the evenings this week, which I couldn't last week as I was ill and we had some trips to minor injuries etc.

Meals today:
Lunch - chicken caesar wrap or salad
Dinner - something quick and easy, baked potato with beans maybe

Happy new week everyone 🙂

And happy travels, @fallfallfall

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 17/10/2022 10:35

@Cloudberries123 Tideford Organics is the Lebanese Lentil and Kale soup. It was nice (Sainsburys) but not sure I'd rush to buy it!

After pigging out recently I had chicken roast dinner yesterday, fishcake with cheese sauce yesterday for dinner.

Breakfasts were peanut butter and marmite on Vogel toast Saturday and raisin toast and scrambled egg on toast yesterday.

Had minestrone soup with reduced fat cheddar cheese and 3 Nairns cheese oatcakes for lunch Saturday and omelette, veggie with garlic bread slice.

Had small slice apple strudel with Skyr yogurt.

Had Thai chilli rice cakes, 1 x Lindt milk chocolate bar and a Kinder choc bar. Also had 2 plums and 4 tangerines (Sat and Sunday).

This morning had oatso simple and blueberries.

Exercise wasn't great - Saturday was training for volunteering all day, Sunday did go out to park but spent 2 hours watching nephew play.

TheRealHousewife · 17/10/2022 11:30

@Allthegoodnamestakken I love a navy and link combo! You becoming confident in wearing brights is a great NSV! Well done 👍

@GonnaGetGoingReturns Id love to hear more about your volunteering role … only if you’re comfortable of course.

@ImALittlePea sending a hug and a cuppa … wishing your daughter a speedy recovery!

The home made tomato soup I’d planned is turning into a spicy minestrone 😬

@TheRealHousewife - I think I can mention the volunteering role. It's for a kids charity and you mentor a child from I think 8-11 years old for a year. You do things with them like take them out, listen to them, play with them etc.

I've done volunteering a few years ago but for 2 different organisations.

My nephew (4 going on 14...!) is a big part of my life which is one reason why I chose to do this.

Re your soup - minestrone is always a good call - adding parmesan or lower fat grated cheddar is nice. I try to have Nairns oatcakes or Ryvita with soup rather than toast.

Cloudberries123 · 17/10/2022 11:57

@GonnaGetGoingReturns Thanks for that soup rec. I'll keep an eye out for it!

Sorry to hear you've not had much sleep @SanFranBear I can relate!

Hope the illness leaves your house soon @ImALittlePea

The weekend was good, on balance. Ate mindfully, although not super healthily. That's a big thing in itself for me. We were at a music event all afternoon yesterday and I got quite dehydrated and we ended up getting burger and chips on the way home. But even that was a conscious choice (not the dehydration though!) and I feel good this morning, nicely on track.

Happy new week! Only 2 days till Weigh on Wednesday!

SanFranBear · 17/10/2022 19:13

As expected, dreadful day here - me and no sleep is not a good combination...

Seemed to be nibbling on something all day long and then topped it all off with a Papa John's (although I did restrict myself to a papadilla!)... sod it - a good night's sleep and a busy week ahead will soon see me right! And I walked just shy of 50k across weekend, which will have helped, fingers crossed.

Your volunteering sounds really interesting, GonnaGetGoing... quite a commitment though!

Forgot to say well done on your race, Miranda! And for signing up to another one straight away - impressive stuff!

CrimsonAlligator · 29/09/2022 08:58

First one in...and hopefully not the first one to drop out this month 🤣

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife. I’ll be calorie counting and continuing my 10k rowing program, which sees me burning a lot of calories, five times a week.

I’m still trying to find the right balance between fuelling all that exercise and losing weight, but for obvious reasons I have to allow myself a reasonable amount of calories on training days. If that means that I “only” manage to maintain by the end of the month, then so be it...a small loss would be nice though!

Hi am new to this thread so reading from the start and have to ask about the rowing programme, I've got a rower and have struggled to find some kind of weight loss programme to follow. What are you following? I feel like I need couch to 5k for rowing machines!

CrimsonAlligator · 18/10/2022 09:14

Welcome to the thread @Justkoko .I bought a plan from the Training Peaks website, but it’s really not beginner friendly. So while, I love it, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, unless they can already row for an hour.

Some alternatives: Dark Horse rowing on YouTube has a lot of free content, including some routines you can do.

The Fiit app has recently introduced rowing programmes. I’ve not tried those, but had a look at their website and thought it looked interesting. You’d need a subscription for that one though.

CrimsonAlligator · 18/10/2022 09:30

@Justkoko This video has a 7 day plan towards the end

I can also really recommend the Dark Horse technique videos. If you’re relatively new to rowing, videos like this are essential viewing:

TheRealHousewife · 18/10/2022 12:02

Good Morning All

@GonnaGetGoingReturns that seems a very worthwhile and rewarding field. Well done on being so generous with your time. I've done a fair bit of volunteering in my time and know it isn't always as easy as the uninitiated think. Good luck! I love minestrone soup. Same again today ... with grated cheese topping :)

@SanFranBear The increased hunger is real! its all to do with your leptin and gherlin becoming out of sync and balance due to poor sleep. 50k steps will eat most of any extras up! Hope you have a better day.

Welcome to the thread @Justkoko . You're in good hands with @CrimsonAlligator .

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 18/10/2022 12:23

@TheRealHousewife - thanks for your support and encouragement. I've always wanted to do something like this but it never fitted in around my work/play commitments and this does as either on weekends or after work. And 30 mins away from where I live.

Stats for today:

Breakfast - blueberries, yogurt and granola
Snacks: Quorn mini eggs x 3
Lunch: really feeling baby charlotte potato salad and scotch egg (M&S) today
More snacks: 2 x plums later

Exercise - 45 minutes approx walking and if I do it after work - bowling for 1 hour., work social. Plus 10-15 minute walk at lunch.

Cloudberries123 · 18/10/2022 12:47

I was feeling a bit down earlier about the éclair situation in the house. I ate my DP's share, so bought a new box and have eaten one of those as well! So I stepped on the scale just to see the damage, and am on 98.9kg, so a few hundred grams below what I was last week. All is not lost with Éclairgate! Motivated to eat well today for the weigh-in tomorrow.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 18/10/2022 15:35

@Cloudberries123 éclairgate made Mr laugh. I'm also terrible for buying treats, eating them and then having to replace them. I try and buy DH coffee or peanut flavour things I hate both and he loves them.
Eating went out the window yesterday when we had some friends round last minute and ended up with a takeaway as I didn't feel I could feed them 1/2 portions of vegetable wraps. Hoping @CrimsonAlligator is right and my plateu means I can get away with more while I'm neither loosing or gaining Confused
Today's lunch was yesterday's leftover and dinner will be the vegetables I didn't eat yesterday

fallfallfall · 19/10/2022 03:52

Eclairgate 😁
18,000 in as predicted, a small Italian beer and crème brûlée; international heist of my diet plan. Only 2 meals a day yesterday and today. I need to drink my fluids, I’ll borrow a water bottle tomorrow although no bathroom options between my brothers and my mothers homes…

milkfromthesleepycow · 19/10/2022 05:48

67.1kg this morning so 1lb off. I can live with that
Still trying to settle into eating plan while increasing my exercise- I've been ravenous! And some of my choices have been poor (similar to eclairgate 😉)

Onwards and inwards my friends

SanFranBear · 19/10/2022 07:04

Good luck if you're WoW'ing today - you have totally got this!

Just popped on to say better days yesterday as slept like the dead on Monday night... even came in slightly under calories despite homemade Macaroni Cheese for dinner (my absolute favourite but am careful with portion size!)

Got leftovers for lunch today and, with the DC away tonight, will likely get in a good walk and follow it up with smoked fish and stuffed mushrooms - both loathed by the small ones! I have half a nachos kit but think I'll have cheese overload if I ear that too 😁

Happy Wednesday!

RadFad · 19/10/2022 07:25

Another maintain for me this week. Even DH was surprised considering how much I've eaten.
New week. I think I need to get back to early nights as staying up far too late again.

Cloudberries123 · 19/10/2022 07:52

Morning. I've come in at the same as yesterday which is nice.

SW: 100.6kg (September)
CW: 98.9kg

Sounds like your travels are off to a flying start fallfallfall I love a creme brulee! (My phone won't let me put any of the necessary accents on the letters though.) I agree that water on holiday is critical to not getting dehydrated and craving fat, sugar and salt. Maybe sipping rather than chugging will help with the no loo situation?

Jammymare · 19/10/2022 07:58

Morning! A 1lb loss for me this week, goodness knows how as I’ve fallen headfirst into a bucket of carbs, Idone no running and sleep deprivation is kicking my backside - we’ve gone to bed at the same time as the baby the last two nights 🤦‍♀️

I’ve been useless at posting, but I am reading when I get a chance.

Today the scales started with 11 - at last!

SW 15 st
CW 11 13

A loss of 1lb. After going up and down since the beginning of September I'm quite happy with that.

@fallfallfall - enjoy your holiday. You can't be quite so careful as you would be at home. You'll sort it when you return.
Well done to everyone who has posted. We're sticking with this, and that's an achievement in itself.

ImALittlePea · 19/10/2022 10:18

Morning all. I've only skimmed the last couple of days worth of posts as am struggling at the moment. I won't go into it, but I'm just feeling a bit depressed about various things, and very overwhelmed in general. I know I'll be ok soon enough, just don't feel it at the moment. I'm trying to make sensible food choices where I can, but with lack of sleep and everything else we ended up getting chippy tea last night. I'll still weigh Friday but I may not be posting as frequently as normal for a while. Didn't want to go AWOL without saying something though.

I'm still cheering you all on, albeit from a quiet distance for now. Good luck to all weighing today. You've got this! See you soon x

milkfromthesleepycow · 19/10/2022 10:41

Being sensible when you can is a solid plan for bad times @ImALittlePea. Sending hugs, solidarity and good wishes

Slightlystressedwife · 19/10/2022 11:01

Woo well done @lizsmum getting into the 11s is an amazing achievement!

@imalittlepea sending hugs.

WoW:
SW 11st 8lb
CW 10st 4lb
TW 9st 7lb

Down 1lb again this week, I seem to be dropping about half to one pound a week at the moment which is absolutely fine with me as I don't feel like I'm particularly depriving myself. Slow and steady wins the race!

Good luck all the WoWers!
