Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! August Thread heres the September Thread!

The start of autumn is the perfect time to overall your way of eating in readiness for the change in seasons. Summer was gone in a flash and now the days are getting fresher; I for one like the cooler climate 🥶 < OK not that cold 😬

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into September! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Made a really nice pasta salad. Pasta, cucumber, tomatoes, corn, chicken. Mixed some pesto to yoghurt and mixed it in. Was pleasantly surprised how good and filling it was!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 02/09/2022 12:56

@TheRealHousewife - it's next Thursday (8th) but unsure if I'll be away or not.

Lunch: 2 x falafels, 2 x samosas veggie (M&S) and a grain/bean salad half from Waitrose plus 3 cherry tomatoes. Oh a Minestrone Slim a Soup.

Snacks today: nectarine and maybe pomegranate seeds.

Have got a cold as well which doesn't help much as I tend to want comfort food. Mostly carbs!

Off for walk in a sec.

@ImALittlePea - I'm relieved to see it's not only me who has slip ups re sharing bags of crisps and Haribos!

Your boot sale and walk into town should've helped today! I think sometimes it's about celebrating the little wins rather than working out/salads all day!

@TheRealHousewife thanks for your support - agreed it's a rhythm really and being mindful etc. Sometimes with hormones/men/friends etc I just turn to food/get off the fitness vibe!

@SanFranBear - well done re the walks and love the pic of the donkeys! Someone I know (family friend, flirting buddy?!) has just been there for the BH weekend and was sending me pics/videos - so if you saw a man on a skateboard (electric) walking two dogs or filming/watching swans/almost adult swans/cygnets by a river/lake, that was him, probably with his friends! Grin

Allthegoodnamestakken · 02/09/2022 13:10

hello to all the newcomers! Checking in for the day, I am at 70kgs this morning so confident that the 1kg off last week has stuck.
Lunch was leftover chicken, rice cakes, cherry tomatoes and cheese spread
Dinner is roast fillet of beef with rosemary veggies (I am very excited for this)
Need to try and be good this weekend as I am hosting a friends birthday dinner on Tuesday and plan to make a very decadent lasagna washed down with red wine. Although I am also supposed to be going for lunch tomorrow.
Have been pretty poor on the exercise front this week as I haven't been feeling 100% going to attempt a cross fit class this evening so I have at least done something

TheRealHousewife · 02/09/2022 13:51

Internet holidays are really important @TheRealHousewife, bet you feel better for it and come back with renewed vigour. I must try to follow your example at some point! I'm sure fall fall fall will take excellent care of the thread.

Chicken tikka and salad for lunch
Sausages and 3veg for dinner
Planning to snack on an orange, carrots and maybe peanuts if hungry later

Managed 11 miles on the bike with the kids. Massively impressed with them (7 and 9). Going for a 'trial commute' with DH tomorrow. If all goes well that'll be another exercise regime to become a habit 😁

DustinsHat · 02/09/2022 21:37

Oh the weekends are tough aren't they. So so tempting to ring the takeaway or dive into snacks with a glass of wine.

TheRealHousewife · 03/09/2022 08:23

Good Morning Everyone 😊

@milkfromthesleepycow I agree. I try to down screens in general at least an hour before bed too. The times I manage that I do sleep better. Just wow that your children managed 11 miles. Excellent!

@DustinsHat Planning weekend food is key. I sometimes do ‘fakeaways’ at home like sticky chilli beef, sweet & sour chicken, egg fried ‘rice’ etc (reminded myself as not had for a while) or a sharing platter/table. It’s tough especially if you’ve been working all week and are shattered . We very occasionally have a takeaway and I always regret them. They are featuring less and less now. Good luck with your resolve.

Menu
Meal 1 - Roast Veg Soup. GF thin. Strawberries & Greek yoghurt.
Meal 2 - Halloumi stir fry. Pecans.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Definitely not just you @GonnaGetGoingReturns I'm going to steer away from that aisle in the shops from now on!

Yesterday was definitely much more restrained. Just about to tackle the boot fair prep.. I'm a bit aghast at just how much there is so sort through, but it's keeping me active.

Today:
Lunch - salad with some leftover chicken, lots of veg and pesto dressing
Dinner - homemade veggie curry

Right, best down my phone and get cracking!

buzzofthebumblebee · 03/09/2022 09:45

Morning everyone. Glad to hear you will be having a break @TheRealHousewife Break from electronics (internet) is good and refreshing for MH too.

Woke at 5am from dream about toast. The big thick sliced white variety. Didn't get back to sleep which was frustrating . Even more frustrating is I had to satiate (??) the toast thing for breakfast with avocado on seeded sourdough. I'll limit carbs rest of day.

Also do "fake-away" here but mine don't sound as good as yours though .... we're having fish n chips this eve in form of baked salmon and potato wedges that I will do in light olive oil. With broccoli. Not quite the same eh ?!

Have a good day everyone, especially those on bikes, running and walking and getting out there !

SanFranBear · 03/09/2022 10:48

This comment of yours stood out for me RealHousewife: We very occasionally have a takeaway and I always regret them. This sums up me last night - after my 20k walk, decided I wouldn't cook as just me and would have Chinese... and wondered why I'd bothered afterwards. I mean, it was nice and everything, but far too much, really salty and I'm kicking myself somewhat. I've still got loads left for today and will eat it as it was expensive but think that might be my last foray for a while (if the kids want one, I normally just get for them these days - never thought I'd see that day!!)

Funny how tastes really change - I lived for takeaways for years and years as we never had them growing up... I can sort of see my parents reasoning now! Much nicer to treat yourself to a meal out every now and then!

Right - day of chores today to get the house shipshape and laundry done and ready for DC return <sigh>... lots of kitty cuddles this morning though so that makes up for it!

milkfromthesleepycow · 03/09/2022 12:07

@SanFranBear I've been wondering about this too. I don't enjoy most takeaways at all now (which I think is a good thing! But will make an exception for Indian occasionally)

Since moving to englandshire I dreamt about the takeaway we used get Chinese from back in Scotland. When we had one on a holiday back it was terrible! Same for deep fried pizza supper. Not sure if it's tastes are changing or I've got my rose tinted glasses on

CrimsonAlligator · 03/09/2022 13:10

I have only had a handful of takeaway in my life, so am probably not best placed to comment on what makes them appealing, but....I think it’s as much to do with the associations that come with them, as it is the taste.

If you have a takeaway every Friday night for example, you’ll end up associating it with the start of the weekend, relaxing, having fun etc etc and it’s that that will make it taste extra good. Once you stop having takeaways for a while, you’ll lose some of those associations and see them for what they really are...which in my very limited experience usually seems to be a greasy, salty mess that doesn’t taste nearly as good as you thought it would!

That’s just my theory though!

Purplecatshopaholic · 03/09/2022 13:55

Hello everyone, hope you are doing well today. Feeling positive today. Had eggs and lower fat bacon for breakfast which I love. There is football on just now (we are in Scotland) - my partner is currently eating his body weight in crisps but I am not a crisp fan (or a football fan!) so I am not partaking, lol. Got some fruit and yoghurt for later after a dog walk. Happy Saturday

Lizsmum · 03/09/2022 17:30

I hope you have a lovely break @TheRealHousewife especially from the internet. That's a real holiday. It's great that @fallfallfall has offered to support us all. Thank you @fallfallfall .

Thank you for the helpful comments about exercise, especially @CrimsonAlligator , @GonnaGetGoingReturns , @SanFranBear . I have very good intentions. 😉

ImALittlePea · 03/09/2022 18:24

Well, I downed phone this morning and have not stopped since. What with all the sorting and shifting, taking my eldest to a giant pop-up inflatable assault course (SO much fun), food shop, loading the car etc I didn't have time to make the curry as planned. And we're now ordering pizza. So much for no takeaways in Sept! I don't feel bad about it though as it's been such an active day, tomorrow will be the same, and after this we will be switching off from takeaways for a while 🤦‍♀️

Monday is the big reset day though. I'm good with that 😂

fallfallfall · 04/09/2022 05:34

i've had an odd past few days, eldest visiting which is fine. but some free floating anxiety purely imaginary worry about my dd. not founded on anything said or unsaid. which has led me to some poor food choice and little to no cardio. i'm getting 10,000+ steps in but no real "active" calories. monday will be a good day to refocus, and tomorrow i can focus on the better food choices.

TheRealHousewife · 04/09/2022 07:07

Good Morning Everyone 😊

@buzzofthebumblebee I have those dreams about ‘doorstop’ thick white toast slathered in salted best butter to the point it melts and oozes 😋. Must be had with a builders mug of hot steaming tea! In my twenties I used to pass a little cafe on my way in to work and they’d cut the thick slices from a massive loaf and toast them. Each slice was buttered and for take out placed in a large white paper bag … omg I can taste it now 😋 I’m celiac now so can no longer indulge in my foodie fantasy.

@CrimsonAlligator Im with you on that! Takeaways have massive amounts of salt & fat added as it helps the taste. The last takeaway Ive had was Fish & Chips (our very good local one do gluten free) Still, I haven’t had one of those for a long time either.

@Purplecatshopaholic Well done on swerving the crisps! 👍👏

Thank you @Lizsmum I am ridiculously excited to be going to the seaside 🌊 6 sleeps to go 😬

@ImALittlePea The big inflatable playground thingy sounds so much fun!

@fallfallfall Heres hoping the anxiety subsides ❤️ It’s such an insidious condition. As I’ve got older (coupled with negative life events) I suffer more. I have to actively disengage with whatever negative fear based thoughts are swirling at the back of my mind and absorb myself in something pleasant such as a potter in the garden.

Menu
Meal 1 - Roast Chicken Dinner with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green beans & onion/chicken gravy. Strawberries, small amount of fresh cream & fage Greek yoghurt.
Meal 2 - Today might end up OMAD. If not, vegetable crudités & cottage cheese with a salsa of home grown toms, cucumber and onion in white balsamic.
Tea, black coffee & water. Need to really get the water in as only had a small amount yesterday.

Exercise - Hosting guests so not today 😬

Good luck to everyone who is seeing children/young people off back to school/uni tomorrow 👍

Thanks @TheRealHousewife I really fancy a takeaway tonight but think I will make a fakeaway instead. Im sure the two chubby cubs website will have something I'd like!

SanFranBear · 04/09/2022 14:45

Note to self - stop buying sweets that only you like as one is never enough and I end up snarfing the whole packet... and then the sugar rush is ON!

Oh, liquorice allsorts - why do you torture me so! Those and some Nice biscuits which I am a sucker for (although at least DC will likely finish those off!)

Luckily (?!), salad for me tonight as I'm making homemade pizza for the DCs 'last night of the summer holidays' dinner, so should be OK but it's so so easy to slip into bad habits!

MirandaWest · 04/09/2022 14:47

@SanFranBear i just have to stop buying sweets at all as they are so nice and I will just eat them all.

I love liquorice too 😊
