Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! August Thread heres the September Thread!

The start of autumn is the perfect time to overall your way of eating in readiness for the change in seasons. Summer was gone in a flash and now the days are getting fresher; I for one like the cooler climate 🥶 < OK not that cold 😬

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into September! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Starting September at 12 stone 3 (2lb less than yesterday!?!??) and planning to finish it at 12 stone. I know that's a pathetic target but I'm being realistic. There are too many days away from home planned for this month.

@CrimsonAlligator I wish I were more motivated to exercise. The thought of 'getting twitchy if I don't exercise' is astonishing. I feel proud if I just hit 10k steps on the fitbit. I take my hat off to you!

HouseofHolbein · 01/09/2022 10:04

Hello September people! Weighed in this morning at exactly the same as yesterday 😊 so starting the month on 9st 9lb or 135lb exactly.

This months goal is to end slightly less than I started. I'm quite close to goal so any loss is good really.

Good luck everyone!

TheRealHousewife · 01/09/2022 10:17

Good Morning & Happy 1st September Everyone 😊

I love a new month! Especially the cooler climate ones 🍁 The beginning of an autumn reset and … dare I say it … countdown to Christmas 🎄😬

I’ve not posted any Action for Happiness posters recently but thought the one that landed in my in-box today was an especially good one. All about Self-Care. I know thats a concept (especially for mums/workers etc) many of us don’t give much thought too. Even if you just pick one or two of the ideas it’ll all go towards supporting your sense of well being and promote good mental health ❤️ And gmh promotes healthy eating and weight loss (to avoid eating/drinking one’s feelings).

@CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow Dont panic 😱 Some with be water/waste. Start over, it’ll soon disperse. 👍Well done on getting back on track rather than waiting until the gain was more.

You’re welcome @MirandaWest 👍 Good healthy target you have there.

@Was126orbustandmaybebust Thats good to know, exciting times ahead for your girls and you get some ‘me time’ back 😬. You’ll soon nobble the extra gain, you did marvellously before. Just get your head in the game and the rest will follow 👍

@SanFranBear You must be so proud of yourself! I know i feel proud for you! You set your target and got on with it whilst still enjoying life! You’re a true inspiration and I for one salute your success to date 👍👏🥇Well done!

@CrimsonAlligator I had a stretch where I stalled/maintained and during that time my only goal was not to gain 😬 I think with the amount of exercise your body is used to with rowing, a walk will feel like a rest day. It’s good to get out in the fresh air 👍

Hi @buzzofthebumblebee lovely to have you join us again ❤️ Binning the sugar off is one of the best things we can do! 👍Your mind/body/skin/sleep/pancreas will thank you for it!

Menu
Meal 1 - Soup (if I get round to making it 😬) or omelette. Pear. Walnuts
Meal 2 - Air fried salmon, quinoa and green beans.
Tea, black coffee, water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Short Walk
Session 2 - Step ups & Squats.

@Lizsmum I don’t think your target is pathetic. You know your body and how it loses weight. I think you’re being realistic and not setting yourself up for failure. At month end you could bust your target and that’ll be preferable to not meeting a higher one iyswim. 👍

Lovely numbers @HouseofHolbein 👍

milkfromthesleepycow · 01/09/2022 12:39

@CrimsonAlligator maybe try setting a non weight related goal? 1cm off waist? Or ft/ muscle percentage?

Im going to aim for 2kg off this month. Desperate to get out for a run tonight. Between husband going on 2 stag dos and a pub quiz night and work I've been out of an exercise routine and I'm itching for half an hour to myself with the sound of padding (thumping!) feet and hard rock!!

MrsTwentyNine · 01/09/2022 14:15

What a great thread! Please may I join? Have a 13 week old and gained around 10kg in my pregnancy....was already overweight so most weight loss aim is well over 20kg! Seems impossible but I've done it before and I know I can do it again. Sleep deprivation and looking after a baby will be the challenge but aiming to cut carbs and intermittent fast!

SW 92kg
GW 65kg

(Yup!)

Sept 1 - let's go!

TheRealHousewife · 01/09/2022 15:01

Congratulations on your baby 🥳 and welcome to the thread. Be kind and generous to yourself, you’ve not long had your little one. Are you breast feeding? I’m not being bossy or nosy and I’m sure you know how to do this but I’m concerned if you’re still healing and recouping. You made and delivered a little human 👏 The plan you loosely outlined doesn’t read anything drastic 👍 This might be useful.

Oups forgot to tag you @MrsTwentyNine 😊

OP posts:
MrsTwentyNine · 01/09/2022 15:06

Thank you so much @TheRealHousewife ! Was combi feeding and now on formula fully due to various issues. Even my periods are back so I figured now is time. But you're absolutely right that I should take it easy, luckily I am totally healed and had a straight forward labour (except some blood loss!)

Thank you for the link too :)

MirandaWest · 01/09/2022 15:47

Did my long run - was 10 miles with the odd stop here and there but overall good.

Weighed myself afterwards (as I do after long runs) and I was 70.6kg 😊 So that’s nearly a stone less of me since starting doing this.

65kg target should be achievable 😊

Think my plan for September is to lose about 0.5kg per week although I have a number of things planned for weekends so will see how it goes.

I have a 10 mile race in October and am hoping I’ll be in good condition for that

fallfallfall · 01/09/2022 17:51

starting the month at a lovely number happy to see 145.0 on the scale (and ticked to see the uploaded info on the computer as 144.95 ;) )
so i will continue to poke along with my IF, calorie counting and somewhat gentle exercise. i pushed myself on my morning bike ride.
positive thoughts everyone for a great month ahead.

CrimsonAlligator · 01/09/2022 18:18

Lovely to see you back @buzzofthebumblebee ! I was starting to wonder what had happened to you. Not in a creepy way 🙈

Thanks @Lizsmum ! The trick for me was to make exercise non negotiable. I convinced myself that I don’t need motivation, I just need to do it! Once I got in the habit, I realised it had a huge positive effect on my mental health and the quality of my sleep. Once I realised that, it became a no-brainer for me to keep going. 10k steps is great by the way! It always amazes me how much walking it takes to get to that number.

@TheRealHousewife your recent weightloss inspires me. I’d more or less resigned myself to being stuck where I am, but I now realise that I’m just using that as an excuse to be a bit too relaxed with my food 😳 (I’m not saying that’s what happened with you! But if you can see a loss after being stuck for such a long time, I have no excuse to give up that quickly!)

@MirandaWest 10 miles?! Wow! 😯

TheRealHousewife · 01/09/2022 18:35

@CrimsonAlligator I think we can all unconsciously sabotage our best efforts. Multiple teas with semi skimmed milk, lattes, coffee with cream, tasting food whilst cooking with a shovel instead of tip of teaspoon, not accurately measuring portions, not moving enough all add up! I addressed all these aspects and the scale started moving again. It’s very easy to get complacent, especially when busy.

@fallfallfall we are similar in our weight loss approach and I’m also thrilled when my apps round my numbers down 😬

Well done on your 10k @MirandaWest 👍👏🥇 Awesome effort!

You’re very welcome @MrsTwentyNine 👍

Ate a bit earlier tonight. Kitchen cleaned and closed and going in garden to potter for 20 minutes.

you made me smile @TheRealHousewife , i feel like i'm in good company.
meanwhile the app, Walk at Home has a new series out called Wake up and Walk. I've not checked it out yet but i'll let you know how it goes. did you ever find the one you wanted with the squats?

TheRealHousewife · 01/09/2022 19:56

Hi @fallfallfall yes I got an email about the new series Wake up & Walk. It’s a payed for thing I think. No I don’t think I found the specific vid that included thigh workout but have added a few in myself here and there 👍

Had today off work. Dropped child number 4 at work then went along to westward Ho! and did a 5 mile walk along the coastal path followed by a pint of cider and then McDonalds 🤦‍♀️ I've got a busy week coming up so nice to have a relaxed day today.

Off again tomorrow 😊 not sure what I'll be doing...

buzzofthebumblebee · 02/09/2022 07:44

Thanks for the welcome back! Survived Day 1 no sugar (no wine, no alcohol) and mindful eating. Hopped on scales in anticipation this morning. Alas no dramatic weight loss over night. Shame !!!!

EnormousStuffedMarrow · 02/09/2022 09:05

Hello can I join please?

I've never really done a diet or anything systematic, but at 5ft and 81kg (& 53 years old with Type 2 diabetes) the time has come.

I have decided to do SlimPod. Which to be honest is really bloody weird but after 2 weeks seems to be having a slight effect on my binge eating tendencies (a positive effect that is).

I've started doing exercise every day too (Lucy Wyndham Read). Couldn't do it yesterday because of a very early start but walked over 13,000 steps so felt ok about that.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 02/09/2022 10:00

Morning everyone. Sorry not been on for a week or so but been very busy with work plus battling plantar fasciitis!
Saw doctor on Wednesday who confirmed I'm 63.8kg which is a bit over what I'd like but trying to get to 63kg and then down.
At weekend I had half a pink grapefruit for breakfast and then with Skyr yogurt another morning to use up the yogurts.
Have also been using a Sistema Bento box and not bothering so much about one a day.
Breakfasts so far this week have been:
Blueberries with Skyr yogurt and maybe a couple of days adding granola.
Today and yday: Blueberries with fruit and fibre cereal and covering of skimmed milk.
Lunches/snacks this week have been:
Some sort of bean salad (Waitrose) or salad with tiny slice of Quiche Lorraine and/or cottage cheese and/or quarter of boiled potato
Snacks - added to Bento box have been nectarine and Kallo small dark choc rice cakes - yday I gave 2 to a co-worker but had 3 energy balls (peanut butter and something else?) from work cafe.
I did pig out one evening a snaffled a whole bag of Waitrose Poppadoms after work but was starving - only had salad for lunch nothing else!
Dinners this week have been:
bean meal with small portion of rice with avocado and greek yogurt (dinner at mum's)
stir fry with small portion rice (various veggies).
Quiche salad and small portion boiled potato
Exercise this week has been limited due to plantar fasciitis hurting and getting some new trainers/shoes - am wearing special podiatrist soles in current trainers.
Two days walked to and from office (15 mins each way) and got to work early so walked for approx 30 mins beforehand. Have also tried to have walks round park lunch/after work.
@CrimsonAlligator as per your post of 27/8, I am to do same re protein/carbs.

@Lizsmum - inspiration for exercise (I'm a bit like you) and even mentioned it to friend/podiatrist the other day.

I have to enjoy (most do I think) what exercise I do. So e.g. in past I liked dancing so signed up for salsa/Latin American classes. I also like swimming (not terrific at it, need to improve my stroke).

I love walking and when I have time can walk 19km (built up gradually) without stopping or one/two stops. However, I started small and I do have the time and no other commitments to do this.

You can't outrun a bad diet!

Good websites I've found for workouts are:

  • Pop Sugar
  • Team Body Project
  • Mr Motivator
Try e.g. a 10/15 minute workout to start and then build up. Optimum walking to lose weight is 15 minutes or more (pref 30) but do it so you feel slightly out of breath - so quite fast. You could fit this in on commute/school run.

Well done on everyone's losses so far. Welcome to September thread any newbies, it's my birthday month this month! Smile

SanFranBear · 02/09/2022 10:06

Aw, thanks RealHousewife - such kind words and yes, at the risk of blowing my own trumpet a little bit too hard, I'm really proud of myself. I just hope that I can make it all stick as that strikes me as the hardest part - maintaining whilst trying to reintroduce the occasional treat but, in your wise words, this is all about finding a sustainable way of life so everything in moderation and all that!

That's some effort, Miranda - as I've said many times, I admire runners very much as its a fork of exercise I've never been able to get into or enjoy! And you're putting in the mileage too - good luck with your race! Hope you got your run, Milk.

I've been out walking the last couple of nights and managed some decent distance and will also head out tonight to celebrate / commiserate the end of the holidays before DC are back tomorrow and the school grind kicks back in. Wish I could manage consistent, daily exercise too, LizsMum, but when I do manage it, it feels sooo good that I have to agree with CrimsonAlligator - I notice it if I don't get out for more than a few days.

Lovely to see you, Buzz - and well done on jumping straight back on it! Your overnight weight loss comment made me 😆 And impressive loss for you, fallfall - you've had a really successful August... well done!

Welcome MrsTwentyNine and EnormousMarrow (great name!) - very best of luck in getting started.. I sense good things ahead!

Here is a little baby donkey getting some nice milk from its mum in the middle of the road - gotta love the New Forest 😀

ImALittlePea · 02/09/2022 11:21

Gah, 2lb on this week. Wasn't expecting to gain that much, but I guess I shouldn't be too surprised looking back at my week (I might have eaten two sharing bags of crisps and a sharing bag of haribo all to myself over the course of the week, along with many other oopsie moments). Time to get back on it now; 4lb to hit my 1.5 stone loss, hoping I can hit that this month and going back to strict structure as of Monday will help with a good loss next week.

This morning had some chores to do and parked further out of town than normal, so built a bit of a walk into the day.

Lunch will probably be crumpets with marmite but I'm going to do some tomatoes, cucumber and peppers on the side instead of crisps.
Dinner - chicken & bacon salad with asparagus, broccoli and peas. Small side of crushed new potatoes.

We've got some prosecco in the fridge for tonight, but I won't be drinking tomorrow as I'm up at 5am to do a boot fair on Sunday. That will involve a lot of lugging of boxes up and down stairs, out to the car etc, always a decent workout. And hopefully a money spinner too!

Happy Friday 😁

TheRealHousewife · 02/09/2022 11:40

Good Morning Everyone 😊

@SanFranBear Youre very welcome. I’m sure if you remain mindful and consistent you will get into the flow of maintenance. You’ve learnt a lot about nutrition and how your body loses/gains etc. You know how to continue to make it work with your way of eating and your exercise routines/hiking/walking 👍 BTW lovely pair of donkeys 😍

@GonnaGetGoingReturns Youll have to let us know what day 🥳🎉

@wannadisc0 Well done on doing your exercise. 👍 Now make it part of your routine 😬(I’m totally uncoordinated too 😆)

Hi @GonnaGetGoingReturns sorry to read PF is still painful! Hopefully it’ll improve with your new trainers/support!

Welcome to the thread @EnormousStuffedMarrow Well done on taking charge of your health and fitness! I know you’ve detailed a plan and I’m not saying it isn’t the right one for you but have to seen Dr Micheal Mosley Fast800 diets? He specifically states that following it can reverse type 2 diabetes.

@buzzofthebumblebee Well done on not succumbing to sugar. Give it a couple of days and it should be reflected on the scales. 👍

@HouseofHolbein Enjoy your day off!

Menu
Meal 1 - Mixed garden veg soup. GF thin. Apple. Pecans.
Meal 2 - Spag bol and gf pasta. Parmesan.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Exercise - Rest Day (not rest as in rest as doing household chores, with oomph 😬)
