Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! August Thread heres the September Thread!

The start of autumn is the perfect time to overall your way of eating in readiness for the change in seasons. Summer was gone in a flash and now the days are getting fresher; I for one like the cooler climate 🥶 < OK not that cold 😬

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into September! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Like you @SanFranBear I'm "shopping" from my wardrobe of smaller clothes at the moment - or even wearing my larger clothes which used to be too tight and now fit properly.
The advantage of being a hoarder and not following fashion trends much is that things still look more or less ok. At what stage is it safe to throw away my very baggy clothes? I've been wearing tops like tents for the past few years and now really don't want to wear them, but worry that all the weight will pile back on and I'll need them!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 29/09/2022 17:19

Afternoon all, I can't believe it's nearly October!
I've also been having clothes issues, all my trousers are now to big but I don't want to buy more incase I go down another dress size. I'm just going with it and wearing everything baggy for now.
I did have a non scale win today though clothes wise. DH has to attend a military ball we didn't expect to be going to so I pulled out my one black tie outfit (usually wear jeans and dog hair) and it fits, I haven't worn it for years. It's quite figure hugging so I'm not convinced if I've lost enough to pull it off but going to go for it.

Cloudberries123 · 29/09/2022 17:22

Maybe getting rid of the bigger clothes will be the motivation to stay slimmer and healthier? I'm so looking forward to that! Over the past couple of years my weight crept up unnoticed, but pregnancy this year means even the clothes I felt best in are currently feeling all wrong. So I'm still in the leggings & t-shirt uniform of late pregnancy 😕

I've actually just logged on to put on record that today I've come out to a coffee shop and just had coffee! That's a win for me.

Looking forward to the October thread, although 12 weeks till Christmas sounds terrifying!

Cloudberries123 · 29/09/2022 17:23

@Allthegoodnamestakken Go for it! I bet you'll feel amazing going to a ball in an old smaller outfit!

CrimsonAlligator · 30/09/2022 01:34

My taste in clothes has never really aligned with what’s in fashion...I like simple, fairly classic stuff. All those oversized frilly dresses, tops and jumpers that are in the shops at the moment do literally nothing for me. I tried some on at the weekend and my DH commented that it looked as if I’d gained two stone...not exactly the look I was aiming for 😂

Thank you for your kind offer @TheRealHousewife . I don’t think it would work, as I usually buy clothes from tall ranges. It’s yet another challenge in my hunt for a new wardrobe.. I’m sure I’ll sort it somehow! I hope your latest bug won’t be too bad. There really are some nasty viruses going around at the moment,

fallfallfall · 30/09/2022 04:34

not read or posted for a while, just checking in and saying i'm having dental surgery tomorrow under anesthetic.
all's stable diet wise for the past couple weeks. i'll still log a 3lb loss for the month.
looking ahead as per the bone graph and implant info i'll be on a soft diet and low exercise for 2-4 weeks (all this for one tooth i lost over 20 years ago...) but dental health wise it's suppose to be a good thing.

milkfromthesleepycow · 30/09/2022 06:49

Ouch @fallfallfall, hope it all goes well. Trying not to sound too patronising but I think you're very brave (I'm an unrepentant big Jessie when it comes to dentists!)

fallfallfall · 30/09/2022 06:55

@milkfromthesleepycow thanks. I’m a touch worried about pain afterwords despite not having much pain following other surgeries. But my dental experience here (8 years in this city) has been amazing. Staying positive.

SanFranBear · 30/09/2022 07:05

Very best of luck, fallfall - dental stuff is awful but so important for good, overall health!

And I haven't heard the phrase 'big Jessie' for years, milk - and I LOVE it, thank you!!

Ever such a small loss this morning but a loss is a loss is a loss and makes for a nice round 34kg (5st 5) off:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 70.7kg
September GW: 70kg

So I've missed my September goal but not by much and I'm pretty pleased as means 2.5kg off for the month. Will have a think about October but anything in the 60s will be a huge deal for me so might have a less stretching target.

Allthegoodnames - that's a fantastic NSV, what a boost! Saves you some pennies too!

My NSV is quite a big one as I appear to have walked off my chub rub! I wore a dress the other day and didn't wear shorts under it, like I have been for years, and I was fine - no worries at all! I don't exactly have a thigh gap but just another thing which I thought I was stuck with but have managed to turn around! Means more determined than ever to get out for a proper walk tonight but will be very city-based as its getting a bit dark for cross country these days 😟

Happy Friday, everyone!

ImALittlePea · 30/09/2022 07:12

Hope the dental appointment goes well @fallfallfall - I had a major dental issue resulting in surgery about ten years ago, so you have my total sympathy.

How are you feeling @TheRealHousewife?

Small loss over here but a loss nonetheless! Just over 0.5lb, and once again tantalisingly close to my 1.5stone mark. Nice to see after maintaining for the last two weeks.

I didn't have a September target but a school term target 😁 and I think I'm on track. But finished the month just shy of 3.5lb down - bye bye summer gain!

Today's plan:
Lunch - risotto
Dinner - out to a friend's, so not sure

Happy Friday all 🎉

milkfromthesleepycow · 30/09/2022 07:54

Haha pleased to be of service @SanFranBear! And a great NSV for you- it's the little things like that that make life SO much easier!

I'm with you @ImALittlePea, with school term targets. Really want to be 10st by start of half term. It's 5lbs so I'm pushing it but may be doable

Had double covid/ flu jags yesterday and by god my arms hurt! No weights today and I'm not feeling terribly enthused about my planned 8k run 😂 will force myself out

Logging 5.5lb loss for the month which is better than I thought

Allthegoodnamestakken · 30/09/2022 07:54

Hope all goes well for you today @fallfallfall
@Cloudberries123 I have no choice but to go for it because I don't have time or funds to go and buy anything new, telling myself I am obviously the same size as last time I wore it as it fits perfectly but for some reason I feel like I look huge in it around the bum and hips.

TheRealHousewife · 30/09/2022 07:56

Good Morning All

@SanFranBear You have done fantastically well! Consistent and solid life changing weight loss. Congratulations 🥳 🎉 👏

@ImALittlePea Well done on your loss 👏The headaches lifted and feel much better thank you! ❤️

@fallfallfall I was only thinking of you this morning. Sorry to hear about your dental surgery, sending a hug. Great weight loss result! 👏

@CrimsonAlligator Tall ranges … my stuff would be useless as I’m in the petite range due to being vertically challenged 🤣

@Cloudberries123 Thats a win 🥇 just having a coffee and swerving the pastries 🥮👍

@Allthegoodnamestakken Sounds a fabulous NSV! 👍

@Lizsmum I am so poor at declitterring and recycling my clothes. I must try harder 😬

Last Weigh-In for September shows an overall loss of 1.3lbs
😆. This month I’ve fluctuated up and down quite a bit due to illness and pain meds. I’m pleased overall.

Menu

Meal 1 - Halloumi stir fry.
Meal 2 - Chicken mini fillets & mixed veg with sweet & sour sauce.
Fresh fruit salad & small amount of cream.

Exercise
Session 1 - Hand Weights
Session 2 - Stretches

Enjoy your last day of September and whatever you’re doing do it with oomph!

Gosh a lot of sniffles, snuffles and bugs on here. Being ill is usually a good thing for me weight wise as I go off food if I cannot taste or smell. To every cloud.....
Day 11
SW:143.2
CW:139.4
GW:126
3.8lbs in 11 days and a tiny tiny bit further into the 9 stone band. It is harder to shift this time than expected ☹️ Bah humbug!
So - as everyone likes it - onwards and inwards😎

ImALittlePea · 30/09/2022 11:04

My target is similar @milkfromthesleepycow, I'm not far off 10 stone now but keep stalling whenever I get close! Would love to be 9st 13lb by the half term.

I've been looking back at my stats and I think I'm misreading my scales though 🤦‍♀️ I think the oz number isn't actually the number of ounces but fraction of the lb. If that makes sense?! Reason I think this is that none of my readings are over (what I've taken as) 9oz. So today I think I'm 10st 1lb 6oz, I think in fact I'm actually 10st 1lb 9.6oz. Not the biggest difference, I suppose, but a bit deflating.

milkfromthesleepycow · 30/09/2022 11:19

Hmmm that seems like a slightly odd way for the scales to measure @ImALittlePea. Worth grabbing a block of butter from the fridge and seeing what if it weighs in at a 9 or a 6? My rusty maths says 250g should be 8.8oz or 0.62 of a lb

Agree that getting below 10st would (will!!) be amazing. There's something psychologically powerful about getting into single digits 😂 mind you I'll take any milestone!

CassandraBarrett · 30/09/2022 12:18

SW 64.4kg
CW 62.1g
GW 59kg

Oh dear I'm going up , not down 🥴

A reminder to me that merely thinking about losing weight has no impact if I continue to eat everything and not exercise!!

Though I had a physio app yesterday and she asked if I had lost weight. She's the only one who has noticed/commented

ImALittlePea · 30/09/2022 13:50

You're right, @milkfromthesleepycow - I need to test it and see. It's not been over '9oz' all year, which is why it rang alarm bells. But I shouldn't assume just yet.

And regardless - it doesn't change my overall target anyway 😁

RadFad · 30/09/2022 13:56

I've had a rotten cold all week and forgot to come and check in.
This week my weight stayed the same so I'm ending September with a 6lb loss.
Feeling my motivation slipping so October goal will be 'don't gain it all back'!

SlashBeef · 30/09/2022 16:34

I'm really struggling 😔 I've plateaud for a few weeks which is better than gaining but I'm just stuck. I know why. It's because I'm eating more and I haven't been going to therapy so my binge eating is starting to creep in again. I can feel my mental health going down like a slow landslide. I have lost 5st so far which feels like a considerable amount but I still have about 5 to go and it feels insurmountable. Just ranting I suppose. I don't want to disappear into a dark hole again but I feel so lonely.

JacquelineCarlyle · 30/09/2022 17:04

Oh @SlashBeef, you've done amazingly well so far, so don't give up! Maintaining is much much better than gaining, so even if it's very slow weight loss now, you'll still get there!

milkfromthesleepycow · 30/09/2022 17:14

@SlashBeef maintaining is the win. Your body isn't designed to just continuously lose weight, we've all hit plateaus and they are healthy. Are you eating more because you're hungry or is it MH related?

Reset. Don't look at what you did yesterday but what you're going to do from this moment on. Grab paper and pen and do a meal plan.

I'd also gently suggest you need to go back to therapy regularly. I think it was you who said it was really helping you?

Definitely not hungry. Today I stood in the kitchen and ate just because I was feeling low. I've really lost myself. I have 4 kids and I've been at home since the oldest was born 9 years ago. I've done my degree in that time but I feel totally unemployable, I don't know how to get out of this rut. I thought losing weight would give me that boost and I'd sorty life out but it hasn't solved everything. I know that was an unreliabistic expectation though!

fallfallfall · 30/09/2022 18:07

dental stuff cancelled for office reasons and rebooked for nov 9th after i return from france.
ending the month at 142.4 a number i've seen a few times.
nice potential to be within the normal bmi range for october :)

WalkthisWayUK · 01/10/2022 00:00

Sympathies to anyone struggling with this. I also am trying to find my way back to work having been full time carer for so long.

I started 3 weeks ago at 70kg but am finally now at 68kg - I really hope I can keep this up and get to 62kg, a healthy BMI. I keep having one week good, followed by one week ‘ok’ then one week eating ice cream! Aaargh!!
