Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! August Thread heres the September Thread!

The start of autumn is the perfect time to overall your way of eating in readiness for the change in seasons. Summer was gone in a flash and now the days are getting fresher; I for one like the cooler climate 🥶 < OK not that cold 😬

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into September! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

I found I was totally the same @susiebluebell! I was always in the 'breakfast is the most important meal of the day' camp until towards the end of last year, so the impact of not having it on my appetite and overall sense of well-being has surprised me. I've found since cutting out breakfast I'm much more able to get through to lunchtime without snacking. I do have a cuppa first thing, then another mid morning, and loads of water, so I technically break my fast first thing, but it's still had a positive impact for me so I don't worry about it!

Cloudberries123 · 14/09/2022 21:38

Well there's a name change fail at the first hurdle... Sorry folks, forget you saw anything! 🙄😅

Glad I'm not the only one who finds it easier to cope by delaying breakfast LittlePea.

ImALittlePea · 15/09/2022 07:05

@Cloudberries123 forget we saw what? 🤷‍♀️😉🤫

Cloudberries123 · 15/09/2022 08:16

@ImALittlePea Thank you 😁

Allthegoodnamestakken · 15/09/2022 12:20

Hi All, Back from my 6 day trip and have gained 1.5kg 😓admittedly a bit annoyed about it as I felt I was very restrained, I had eggs for breakfast most days, very small lunches and either fish and veg or red meat and veg for dinner. I was also very good at not stuffing myself in the bakeries etc. I even did 2 5km runs and a 10km hike. However I did drink a lot of wine. I wonder what on earth i'd have gained if I hadn't been restrained although I am secretly hoping some of it is just water/bloat because I always swell up on planes.
Onwards and upwards this week, hoping to get that 1.5kg back off asap and really push to get down to my 65kg target asap

milkfromthesleepycow · 15/09/2022 12:41

@Allthegoodnamestakken i think it'll mainly be bloat from the wine. Should come off quite quickly

5k run and a lunch of chicken and salad. Fish for dinner.
New dress arrived for wedding (guest) and think I could have gone a size down as it's stretchier than I'd anticipated but fits reasonably well at size 14. Hoping it'll instil confidence in social situations 😂

ImALittlePea · 15/09/2022 14:09

Hopefully just water and bloat as you say @Allthegoodnamestakken

Had a nice walk with DD this morning, about 45 minutes or so. Other than that it's just been a nice slow day.

Meals:
Lunch - back to basics 😁 cup-a-soup, veggies and a dairylea triangle
Dinner - crushed new potatoes with something from the freezer (likely a Quorn escalope of some kind), peas, carrots and broccoli

I have a dear friend coming for drinks tonight, she's lived abroad for a number years and hasn't been back for over three years, and she's only back in the area for a week or so, so I'm going to let myself bend the rules for her while she's here. Hopefully I don't regret that tomorrow morning when I step on the scales 🤞

Hope everyone has a positive day!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 15/09/2022 14:14

@ImALittlePea have a lovely evening! I am the friend that lives abroad and only appears home for a week or so every year (or years with covid) and I would certainly appreciate you bending the rules a little.
Off to take the dogs for a long walk as its a lovely evening so making the most of it before back to work tomorrow

SanFranBear · 15/09/2022 15:00

Hi all - and welcome Clouds!

Great WoW's everyone - even those who've gone up a little due to lovely holidays and breaks. The scales may be up but you were mindful and as RealHousewife always says, this is about finding a sustainable change so I'd take a small gain as a win!

How exciting, Slightlystressed - you'll have to name change for next week 😉 Very best of luck for the weekend - your dress is going to look absolutely fabulous - you've done so well!

I made it out for my WoW yesterday and was out of my usual area, visiting friends. Thankfully the weather improved as it was miserable first thing but ended up lovely and sunny.

Did go out for dinner with my friends but made a healthy mains choice and then had the 'Coffee and Mini Dessert' option.. how times change, eh! My friends were also really complimentary which is a lovely boost.

Being very mindful today in advance of my weigh in tomorrow - hoping to see some movement as my period has arrived and I've been fairly on it. I guess we'll see!

ImALittlePea · 15/09/2022 16:09

Well, friend has cancelled 🙁 which is a huge shame. I'm in the mood for wine now, but I haven't been to the shop for any yet so I'm not going to bother. Hopefully the silver lining to the cancelled plans is a better result tomorrow; either way, it's a healthier Thursday night!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 15/09/2022 16:50

So I had a dark chocolate Lindt hazelnut bar last night.

Breakfast: fruit and fibre with 80g blueberries and skimmed milk
no snacks
Lunch: chilli con carne burrito with all trimmings
not sure re dinner yet but maybe fish n chips

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 15/09/2022 17:00

susiebluebell · 14/09/2022 21:03

@GonnaGetGoingReturns and @ImALittlePea thanks for the welcome both, and for taking the time to give thoughtful comments.

I know that it'll take a while and some effort as I've got quite a bit to lose until I'm in the healthy bracket again. That's OK. I had been in denial for a long time, until I got weighed by the midwife and my BMI was in the obese range. That was a really scary shock and I've had a few months to think about how I got here.

Answering your question about exercise Gonna, I've always been active, had very active jobs, was athletic in school, considered myself fairly fit even though I knew I ate too much. As I ease back in, I'm walking a lot, swimming, and doing occasional yoga. That's all I'm doing till I'm further along the road postpartum.

As for an eating plan LittlePea I've been delaying breakfast to see what that's like, and it seems to set me up well for a day of self-restraint! So I may continue that and do a sort of intermittent fasting. Seems like if I start eating at breakfast, I don't stop! Also considering higher fat and lower carb, but we'll see over time.

Hope everyone else is having a good week x

@susiebluebell - you're doing very well post partum as @ImALittlePea says.

Most of us couldn't even manage that.

The one young mum I knew recently walked a lot (with baby) and did workout videos in her house. Another young mum I knew who was big on exercise and cycling has apparently kept this up - exercise every day at home and cycling where she can. Her baby is now 5-6 months old and the first baby is now 2!

What I would say and judging by my weight-loss recently it is more about you can't outrun a bad diet etc.

I found recently I got Plantar Fasciitis which is very painful and I was away but also out on day trips or afternoon trips with walks. I was mindful though to stick to normal meals, little or no snacks but did allow myself the odd slice of cake but had fruit in a box for snacks. I also put water with juice (Robinsons do a portable cordial) so if I felt hungry and didn't want water I had the juice. Also took warm green tea in car. I did this for approx a month and could definitely see myself losing weight but more with clothes than weight-loss though I had lost weight.

Good healthy breakfasts for me are:

Peanut butter and marmite on vogel soya and linseed bread and scrambled eggs (with butter) and pepper on voyel same but toasted (no spread/butter). I find both of those fill me up a lot especially if walking.

I'm a demon for walking and have walked 18K and 29K without stopping (building up) in past. But I love it and no commitments like kids.

Like I said before, not everyone has a one diet fits all rule. Avocado on salads does help with weightloss (healthy fats). I also found (and thought I'd hate it) pink grapefruit by itself or with yogurt for breakfast or a snack is actually really tasty.

oh no @ImALittlePea - what a shame! Healthier night though!

fallfallfall · 15/09/2022 21:21

:) happy to see everyone checking in and welcome to cloud.
ummm zero exercise happening here some mental setback with a friendship is dragging me down today.
on the home front though i'm making headway with getting fruit and veggies into a packed freezer...or donating it to friends.
i certainly didn't need it but a friend sent me home with carrots....grated them up and frozen now.

CassandraBarrett · 15/09/2022 22:08

Oh dear I am having a busy time and not joining in the chats, sorry. But as accountability for myself here's my numbers, I know it's Thursday but I weighed myself yesterday morning:
SW 64.4kg
CW 61.9g
GW 59kg

I'm happy to have broken below 62!

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/09/2022 22:12

Oh boo. A terrible week has culminated with a full on Indian take away and cake. Was delicious though! Going to sort myself out again tomorrow! And I have adopted another rescue dog so there will be more walking coming up!

milkfromthesleepycow · 16/09/2022 06:36

@CassandraBarrett well done on breaking 62kg! You're halfway to your target 🎉

@Purplecatshopaholic what kind of dog have you rescued?

SanFranBear · 16/09/2022 07:05

Woohoo - delighted with my weigh day today as its just under a kilo down, so two pounds off:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 71.9kg
September GW: 70kg

So halfway through the month, just under halfway to my September goal. Given August was a bit of a bust, it's good to see things going in the right direction again and am feeling positive about the rest of the month as, other than a party next weekend, it's a fairly low key one! I'm out at the theatre tonight but my friend and I have agreed, for budgetary reasons, to eat beforehand so I'll be having some more of the chicken noodle soup I made last night and some stuffed mushrooms!

I'd also love to know what dog you've rehomed, Purple! I wouldn't swap my cats for anything but I have a real soft spot for dogs - they're like perpetual toddlers, always happy to see you and cheeky as hell! Apologies if I've got it wrong but was it you, Holbein, who also had a fairly new arrival? How have they settled in?

Wishing you all a wonderful Friday! And to quote RealHousewife - whatever you're doing today, do it with gusto!!

ImALittlePea · 16/09/2022 07:44

STS over here. Shouldn't be disappointed really, but can't help feel that way a little bit. My analytical brain tells me that is a more than fair result after last weekend, and at least it isn't a gain!

Onwards and hopefully downwards we go!

We don't have as much planned as normal this weekend, and the weather is meant to be ok so I'm going to try and prioritise getting the family out for some walks as much as I can.

Sure of today's meals at the moment as I ran out of cup-a-soup yesterday 😱 hopefully I can get to a shop this morning. Will update later!

ImALittlePea · 16/09/2022 07:45

Pressed post too soon...

Happy Friday, all!

ImALittlePea · 16/09/2022 07:49

Well done @SanFranBear and @CassandraBarrett 🎉🎉

CassandraBarrett · 16/09/2022 09:20

Thank you @ImALittlePea and @milkfromthesleepycow

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/09/2022 09:54

Sooo excited @milkfromthesleepycow. I have rescued a Podenco from Spain. I already have one and just couldn’t resist this poor soul who has had a rough start in life. Shameless pic attached. So training, lots of walking and exercise, taking him and my older boy out and about - can’t wait.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 16/09/2022 10:53

@Purplecatshopaholic he is beautiful, I had never heard of that breed and now I want one. I've been working on getting DH to agree to let me take in another shelter mongrel but he's adamant 2 dogs is enough at least until we move somewhere bigger which will hopefully be next year.
Good news weight wise today, I was right about swelling from the plane and dropped 1kg overnight so back down to 69.8

SanFranBear · 16/09/2022 12:02

Oh he's adorable, Purple 💜
