Hello and Welcome

Following on from the LOSE IT! August Thread heres the September Thread!

The start of autumn is the perfect time to overall your way of eating in readiness for the change in seasons. Summer was gone in a flash and now the days are getting fresher; I for one like the cooler climate 🥶 < OK not that cold 😬

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into September! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Hello all. Fruit, seeds and yoghurt for brekkie. Lunch will be salad of some sort. Dinner will be baked cod and rice / veggies. Lets hope I can stay on track today !

Weather was so warm yesterday, but turned again today. Can't work out what to wear at the moment. But small problem really. Have a good day everyone!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 13/09/2022 09:26

SanFranBear · 13/09/2022 07:23

Not sure if I wished you both a Happy Birthday, Miranda and GottaGetGoing but just in case - Happy Belated Birthday! If anything deserves some off-piste eating and drinking, it's that! Sounds like you're both on top of it anyways.. Nice NSV, GottaGetGoing - they all count (and thanks for your kind words!)

I have an image in my mind of you pootling around the Canadian countryside on your bike, handing out honey and, to be really twee, living your best life, fallfall! Sounds idyllic, to be honest..

And lots of lovely walking, LittlePea - always boosts my mood!

Don't worry about an off day, milk - I had three packets of Hula Hoops yesterday afternoon for no reason at all... regretted them and I was thirsty all evening (am having lots of stupid o'clock wees at the moment too so didn't want to drink loads before bed!) Even though I was within my normal calorie allowance, yesterday was supposed to be one of my lighter days so planning a much better day today. We can do this, Jacqueline (not that your day actually sounded that bad at all!)

DD getting braces fitted this lunchtime so out across a mealtime which I'm hoping won't throw me off and then likely be a very 'soft' dinner (I've made Jelly!)

Have a good one, everyone!!

Thanks @SanFranBear - I actually was off work for my birthday and then out for the whole of last Friday too.

Last night I ate the rest of my cheese savouries but they don't seem to have the same pull as they did. Funnily enough years ago when I did lose weight I noticed that crisps etc didn't have the same 'pull' or eating a whole big pack. In fact, now in supermarkets I'm quite easily going past the dips aisle (my old downfall) and choosing pop chips in a 5 grab bag big pack or a big packet. In fact the grab bags are quite good as a 'snack'. Or Snack a Jacks.

@SanFranBear - ever since I've been 6 or so a big bag of BBQ flavour hula hoops has been my go to treat (used to get as a treat doing the food shop with mum every week) and then later on creme caramels in 4 packs and Twix/Kit Kats. Oh and any orange sweets like Mojos!

If you do have an off day, just reset and do more steps/exercise, eat less etc.

For me, I've noticed my weight loss (not huge but good enough) has been happening gradually, I noticed it gradually but when I saw my mum recently she's noticed it too.

@ImALittlePea - wondered where you'd been! Your lunch with the quesilada and cup-a-soup sounds delish as does your dinner. My nana (barely 5ft) when she was older used to have a cup-a-soup (in a bowl not the cup!) for lunch with a piece of toast for lunch every day - plus other diet. I swear it helped to keep her slim - she was a good size 6-8 up until 90 when she died.

@TheRealHousewife - will probably see you tomorrow here but agreed re colder weather and food matching to fit and losing and gaining. All really important. Dieting and healthy eating and exercise (as I well know from my recent Plantar Fascitiis journey) isn't a one size/method fits all people, if something works for you, do it. I find halving carbs works for me, generally.

Another thing I recall in the colder weather, I worked somewhere where for lunch I had a can of soup for lunch, plus piece of brown/wholemeal bread, yogurt and/or fruit, every day. Sometimes I'd go mad and have fish n chips with team or a meat pie with gravy and mash but mostly I'd have my same lunch. Not much snacking but did help myself sometimes to treats brought in. What did help me was 10-15 minutes fast walking every morning, a 20/30 minute walk at lunch and a good 10-15 minute walk to catch the bus in the evening. This also meant I could have a cappucino/tea with skimmed milk and sometimes a snack too. I lost about a stone over 4 months from December to end next March doing this including Christmas parties there. Usual meal but halving carbs. I also had oatsosimple plus blueberries for breakfast.

I just saw I missed your birthdays @GonnaGetGoingReturns and @MirandaWest - many happy belated returns!

It's really boosting when someone notices your losing, isn't it.

We're definitely heading towards cold weather food, which I just don't like as much as I'm not a fan of gravy. Trying to hold onto the summer menu as much as I can 😂

Today's meals:
Lunch - cup-a-soup, veggies and a dairylea triangle, followed by greek yoghurt and pomegranate
Dinner - leftover homemade veggie curry with rice

Feeling less bloated today which is something. Unfortunately weather is not nice where I am so I won't be going out for a stomp but the toddler keeps me active enough generally 😁

@ImALittlePea thanks for belated birthday wishes!

Oh no, not a fan of gravy! Never mind! I only ever have it if having a roast dinner or toad in the hole or lentil pie. It's mostly a Bouillon with marmite gravy so quite tasty.

I like your meals - it's good to get a mix of dairy/fat/veggies into your diet, along with fruit/veggies and carbs.

The weather is okish (warmer?) where I am but slightly on the rain spitting side!

SanFranBear · 13/09/2022 20:41

Watching the Great British Bake Off and its cakes... and Red Velvet Cakes! Not helping with my willpower whatsoever 😫

MirandaWest · 13/09/2022 20:43

Thank you for the birthday wishes - I’ve taken all this week off (due to having loads of TOIL) which is nice. And I’m going away for a few days tomorrow.

Decided to do my long run today - and I managed to keep going and do a half marathon! Weighed myself when I got back and was 70.2kg,

Was 76.7kg two months ago so that is just a stone 😊

Need to keep on going now! But seeing the difference it’s making to my running is motivating

ImALittlePea · 13/09/2022 21:25

I swear I saw that GBBO wasn't on this week because of the Queen, gutted I missed it @SanFranBear 😭

Yes - I was also convinced of that too but it was all over my Facebook today so thought I'd tune in and lo and behold, it was on, in all its sweet, sugary glory!

fallfallfall · 14/09/2022 03:17

steady day over here although i did not fit in exercise of any sort or pay attention to a calorie count. that being said 6,000 just around and about the house.

b: toast, boiled egg, and tomatoes
l: open faced tuna melt, more tomatoes (last of the garden harvest)
s: stir fry (revamped leftovers using up the chineese take home from a few days ago...6 full meals from one order of ginger shredded chicken and one order of mushroom fried rice).
pretty pumped as my sticky laundry room (from the honey processing) is back to sparking.

milkfromthesleepycow · 14/09/2022 06:28

Argh didn't realise I'd missed GBBO! Will have to catch up tonight

@MirandaWest well done on a half! That's fantastic!

@fallfallfall must have been quite a work out sorting out all the honey processing gear- although I imagine you're pretty experienced with it

WOW was a STS here. Exactly the same as last week to the point where I'm wondering if the fancy scales are working correctly!
Im happy with that I think. It's been a fairly relaxed diet week (month!). I seem to be plateauing for a while then suddenly losing then plateauing again, which is ok. Certainly feels sustainable

Still 6.9kg to GW

Good luck for anyone else who's WOW today

Rewis · 14/09/2022 07:08

Congrats to the birthday girls, lovers, half marathon runners and everyone just being awesome 😃

SW 88.4kg
Last week: 87.3kg
This week: 87kg
GW 85kg

RadFad · 14/09/2022 07:19

Good morning!

1lb down this week.
3lb total so far for September.

Found this week a struggle but blaming it on ⭐️ week.

Plan for this week:
No chips with homemade pizza on Saturday night.
No buying little madeleine cakes in the shopping.
Get out walking every day.
Earlier to bed than 11.30/midnight.

Well done to losers and STS'ers.

I have put back on the 2lbs I had lost this time last week. Grrr. Back to it.

Lizsmum · 14/09/2022 09:05

Sorry I haven't been around. I was too busy eating croissants and cheese in Paris. I put 6lbs on in 4 days of unregulated eating. Most of it's gone now. So my WOW is a 1lb gain.
CW 12 st 4lb
Mini target for September 12st

Well done to all the losers and STSers and also to those, like me, who know why they've gained.

JacquelineCarlyle · 14/09/2022 10:15

SW - 13st 5lb
CW - 13st 2 1/2
TW - 10st

Had to switch to stones as KG just don't mean anything to me! Hope that's ok.

Lost 1/2lb this week. Would have liked more but ate and drank a lot from Thursday- Sunday, so lucky to get a loss at all!

Slightlystressedbride · 14/09/2022 10:34

Morning all! T-3 days here, D-Day is Saturday 😬1.5lbs down on last week which I think is mainly thanks to stress and rushing around as I certainly don't feel like I've been eating particularly well!
I'm 2.5lbs off my slightly arbitrary wedding weight that I set for myself but I'm really happy with where I've got to since the beginning of the year.
SW 11st 8lb
CW 10st 0.5lb
TW 9st 7lb

Wedding dress being delivered after cleaning this morning so let's hope it's not shrunk! Otherwise it'll be spanx all the way!

Good luck all the other WoWers this week!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 14/09/2022 11:01

SW - can't recall
CW - just under 11 stone - prob 10 and three quarters, ordering electronic scales.

Have been a bit naughty with Lindt milk chocolate hazelnut bar and one vanilla cannoli pastry yesterday.

I also had, the horror - a whole small jacket potato yesterday with small slice quiche Lorraine and salad.

I did eat a whole bag (greed) of pop chips salted that I found in Lidl plus a Mrs Crimble chocolate macaroon.

@MirandaWest - that's amazing - well done! My Plantar Fascitiis appears to have got much better so would love to start jogging/running again but don't want to tempt fate. Looked for aqua aerobics classes this week but all booked up locally.

I think I know what I need to do re gaining and losing - be strict but not too strict etc.

ImALittlePea · 14/09/2022 13:40

Well done to everyone who has WoW'd today 💪

Ah how exciting @Slightlystressedbride!! Glad you've got to a place you're happy with. I'm sure the dress will fit perfectly. I'll say it now in case you're too busy closer to the big day 👀😂 but I really hope it's full of happiness and love for you and your husband-to-be 💗

Today's meals:
Lunch - two egg omelette with 30g cheddar and a portion of beans
Dinner - spaghetti bolognese with a big side salad. Then greek yoghurt and pomegranate for afters.

Lizsmum · 14/09/2022 14:01

Oh well done @Slightlystressedbride ! Have a super day.

@ImALittlePea - liking your lunch choices. I'd maybe have an egg white omelette with Cathedral City lighter cheese, beans and maybe salad and/or potato quarter.

@Slightlystressedbride - forgot to say, well done on your losses!

Hello everyone, hope it's OK if I jump aboard! I'm looking to lose about 30kg (in the long term) after putting on a lot of weight due to stressful life events in the last 5 years, and then having a baby this summer.

My baby is now 2 months old, and I feel ready to start doing some very gentle exercise again and thinking about what I'm eating.

I've name-changed for this, as I'd like this journey kept private from my main username where I've shared a lot about TTC etc.

I've been reading along for several months and think you all seem like a lovely bunch 😊

SW (last week!) 100.4kg
CW: 99.4kg
Mini goal weight: 95kg
Ultimate goal weight: 70kg

@Cloudberries123 - welcome to the thread! @TheRealHousewife is the main person in charge of this thread (with great tips too!).

The only thing I'd say is if you'd like to drop from 15 stone to 11 stone (4 stone) then you can do it but it'll be hard and may take time. Do you have any health issues?

What do you like doing exercise wise?

I like halving carbs - so half or quarter of e.g. potato or palm sized rice/pasta portion and save bread for weekends.

I also love Ryvita Crackerbread as well as usual Ryvita. With or without Dairylea triangles/margarine or butter and cottage cheese (full fat).

I've also found swapping sweets/chocolate for fruit also helps me.

A good snack is a date with peanut butter. Also oatcakes (I like Nairn cheese ones and fruit ones) but say if you have e.g. 3 with a can or half a can of soup then keep others in plastic box.

I also like blueberries with Kelloggs Fruit and Fibre (covering) and splash of skimmed milk but not every morning.

Pop chips and Snack a Jacks are good snacks as are apple with peanut butter.

With the baby - fast walking - so e.g. a couple of laps of a park but walk until you feel slightly out of breath, you only need to do e.g. 15 minutes but ideally 30 a day. Also walk wherever possible, not car. And if you breastfeed surely you take in more calories so that makes a difference too?

Don't beat yourself up if you have set backs re takeaways, chocolate etc as we all do here!

Orange polenta cake slice had as snack today but made up for it with 3 apricots! And had sainsburys egg salad with potatoes and dressing with dollop of cottage cheese for lunch. Veggie Tofu stir fry for dinner.

Welcome to the thread! A very friendly and supportive place to be on a weigh loss journey 😊

Congratulations on your baby! Two months is still very soon post partum so make sure you're staying mindful of what your body needs alongside making healthy changes. I've found baby weight is a different type of weight to shift, so stay kind to yourself.

Have you got a plan in mind yet? I personally avoid bread, crisps and wine in the week, I weigh and measure my ingredients, and loosely stick to 16:8 intermittent fasting.

Good luck, and keep posting whenever you need to.

susiebluebell · 14/09/2022 21:03

@GonnaGetGoingReturns and @ImALittlePea thanks for the welcome both, and for taking the time to give thoughtful comments.

I know that it'll take a while and some effort as I've got quite a bit to lose until I'm in the healthy bracket again. That's OK. I had been in denial for a long time, until I got weighed by the midwife and my BMI was in the obese range. That was a really scary shock and I've had a few months to think about how I got here.

Answering your question about exercise Gonna, I've always been active, had very active jobs, was athletic in school, considered myself fairly fit even though I knew I ate too much. As I ease back in, I'm walking a lot, swimming, and doing occasional yoga. That's all I'm doing till I'm further along the road postpartum.

As for an eating plan LittlePea I've been delaying breakfast to see what that's like, and it seems to set me up well for a day of self-restraint! So I may continue that and do a sort of intermittent fasting. Seems like if I start eating at breakfast, I don't stop! Also considering higher fat and lower carb, but we'll see over time.

Hope everyone else is having a good week x
