Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Hear hear, Benji - wise words indeed! And you're definitely not letting anyone down, LittlePea.. life is for living, remember!

Good news for me this morning, down .8kg, so almost 2lbs:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 75kg
August GW: 72kg

Puts me squarely into the 11 stone somethings which I am so pleased with and within sniffing distance of 30kg gone. Still a very stretch GW this month but got to have something to aim for!

Day of packing and sorting house and cats before disappearing off for a couple more nights in a field. It's one of my favourite sites so at least I know DC won't be bored. We're also planning to head to the beach tomorrow although am nervous about us burning - slip, slap, slop is the key, I guess!

Happy Friday everyone - with this weather, make sure you're drinking lots of water if you're out there!

TheRealHousewife · 12/08/2022 10:56

Good Morning Everyone 🥵

@Benjispruce4 great minds … 😬

@SanFranBear @MirandaWest well done on getting the walking in, especially in this heat 👍👏

@ImALittlePea Sounds like you had a fabulous holiday! That’s priceless ❤️ Don’t sweat the food aspect. We have to be flexible as it’s good for the soul!

@SanFranBear well done on your loss! Enjoy your break and yes definitely Slip Slap Slop ☀️

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made courgette, potato & leek soup. Pear. Walnuts.
Meal 2 - Chicken Salad with home made dressing.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Hand weights
Session 2 - Stretches.

Talking of exercise, what 1 exercise would you recommend to build a bum 😬 Mines gone missing 😮

Keep hydrated ladies !

@TheRealHousewife i think squats are often recommended for building strong glutes, but don’t have any practical experience with that myself.

@ImALittlePea I can (almost) guarantee you that most of what you’ve gained this week won’t be fat, but water, so you’ll see that flying off in no time. It’s great that you’ve managed to change your mindset. That’s a really hard thing to do!

Well done on your loss @SanFranBear . You’ve done so well! Enjoy your trip to the beech.

There’s not much to report here diet wise, but yesterday I went for my first run in about a decade. I went to the beach, just before sunset. My main motivation for that timing was simply to avoid being around lots of people, as I was feeling pretty self conscious 🙈. But it turned into a beautiful run/plod with a golden sunset and 1000s of wading birds murmuring before they were getting ready to roost. I could get into this!

Benjispruce4 · 12/08/2022 11:47

@SanFranBear amazimg! Just imagine what 30kg looks like! Well done.

ImALittlePea · 12/08/2022 13:11

Well done @SanFranBear that's incredible!

Thanks all for the encouragement 😁

Lizsmum · 12/08/2022 14:56

@SanFranBear that's an amazing loss can you actually find something that weighs almost 30kg and see how hard it is to even lift it off the floor? I've done that with my relatively small 30lbs and it was shocking. I really really hope to be able to say that I've lost 30kg one day.

Embarras83 · 12/08/2022 14:58

Anyone on here tried ozempic?

Benjispruce4 · 12/08/2022 17:13

B- poached egg with sautéed mushrooms
L- chicken breast salad, apple
D- DH made gazpacho and I can’t wait as it’s my fave thing to eat on a hot day. Will have some toasted bread with it plus a chilled glass or two of white wine.

Had enough heat now!!

HouseofHolbein · 13/08/2022 08:37

Ah fuck it. It's hot and I've got a few social occasions coming up and I'm going to grab every single one. So I'm not fussing for the next few weeks.

I'm going to roughly stay with 16:8 and I'm going to do minimum 12k steps every day and keep the water going but other than that the diet is on holiday 🤣🤣

Went out last night. Going out tonight. Going out Thursday night. Got silent disco end of the month.

I'll give myself a fresh start after my birthday in September 👍 but I'll still pop into the thread obviously 💕

TheRealHousewife · 13/08/2022 10:47

Good Morning Everyone 🤗

A small loss of 1lb and now I’m at my lowest weight since November 2020. I’ve been losing/gaining the same few lbs for a while. I think my under-active thyroid has a lot to do with it.

Thank you @CrimsonAlligator ill look online and just make sure I’m doing the squats properly 😬

@Benjispruce4 Your menu sounds tasty 😋

@HouseofHolbein Sounds like you’re in for a good time! Enjoy it whilst you can 👍. September will be here soon enough … then we know what’s round the corner 🎄😬

Menu
Meal 1 - Mediterranean 3 egg omelette & side salad.
Meal 2 - Not sure yet … Walnuts, pear and an orange.
Tea, black coffee, water.

Enjoy the weather; it’s reported storms are on the way 😧

I’m afraid I’m not enjoying the heat @TheRealHousewife . My house is like an oven and can’t seem to find clothes cool enough. I’m in central England so not close enough to day trip to sea with us pending 3 hrs each way in the car. Menopause is no fun.
Bring in the storm! 😂

Rewis · 13/08/2022 12:18

went to a 0.5 mile swim today. So had a few others :D I always go to the fitness swimmers lane (there are 3 fast swimmers, fitness, slow) cause the slow is very slow but I'll never understand why the fast swimmers insist on coming to this lane and then proceed to get frustrated when they can't get passed. If you need to go pass most people swimming on the lane, go to the otherone. GRRRR.

Als there was this young lad who wanted to jump from the 10m tower. Everyne was cheering for him but it was taking forever so I went to shower and sauna. I was about to go get dressed when they made an annoucement to cheer for the boy. He was still gathering courage. So adorable.

Also my visa to UK got rejected so good to excercise to get my mind of things. Grr. Going minigolfing and beer garden with a friend so at least I have a nice evening planned. Hope you all are having a nice weekend!

Rewis · 13/08/2022 12:21

@TheRealHousewife well done on lowest weight. That's amazing.
@Benjispruce4 in July when it was the hottest days ever we happened to be on our pre-booked holiday in Norfolk. Have to say that it was a lucky coincidence since I think Midlands and my bf's house would have been unbearable!

fallfallfall · 13/08/2022 14:44

@TheRealHousewife if your able to find the Leslie Sansone video “Firm 30” after a brief fast walking segment it’s squats, lots of squats.
I’ve got eldest, my daughter in law and grand daughter over. They arrived Thursday and are here till Sunday.
Food, some cake and some take away. Exercise not easily fitting in.
and congrats! On the low point 😊

Tirednortherner · 13/08/2022 14:45

Not posted since my first message as had a few life events and busy at work.

overall maintained my weight (10st8-9), deficit 4-5days a week. However, despite being happy to maintain I do want more and have a few weeks without events so want a bigger push.

Had a subway salad (TLC) today, with Pepsi max. Aiming for a bit more of a deficit and more protein but nothing extreme as that’s unworkable.

My next goal weight is 10 stone. I started at 13st4 and am finding it harder losing now but overall happy to maintain, and lose slowly.

My next holiday is 21st September. Around 5 weeks away, an 8 pound loss by then is probably too ambitious but it would be nice to get over what feels like a plateau / stalling (even if it is just me having had a few more relaxed days).

MirandaWest · 13/08/2022 16:33

My weight doesn’t seem to be going down but my fitness is getting better I think.

Went to a parkrun with DH this morning - one about an hour away that I went to about a month ago and despite it being hotter I was quicker than last time by nearly 2 minutes which is also my quickest parkrun since covid in March 😊

Did have a nice sausage nap afterwards 😂

Benjispruce4 · 13/08/2022 21:17

B- 2 oat cakes with some mashed avocado
L- pub lunch. Went for prawn Marie rose open sandwich so just one slice of bread and asked for no butter ( I don’t like it plus handy cals wise), one small glass Sauvignon.
D- celery stick, rice cake with hummus and and apple.
Have taken in lots of water today and feel very full.

Benjispruce4 · 13/08/2022 21:20

The best thing was that the pub was a very old one(1570) and had very thick walls so inside was so cooooool!😁

HouseofHolbein · 14/08/2022 09:33

Queen tribute was awesome last night. Had an absolutely brilliant time and ended up on 25k steps 🤣🤣

Was just what I needed after a rubbish day at work 😊

TheRealHousewife · 14/08/2022 09:50

Good Morning All 🙂

@Benjispruce4 sounds tough! There isn’t any respite from the heat at the moment and it’s making sleeping difficult too. Hopefully it’ll cool down in the coming days! You’ll have to spend the day in the pub where it’s coolest 🥴😬

@Rewis Thank you. The swimming sounds great! Sorry to read about the visa rejection. Do you re-apply? We recently had a holiday in Norfolk, it was really nice. A place called Holkham 👍

Thank you about the recommendation for LS ‘firm 30’. I’ve not seen that one (admit I generally just do the same one 😬) I’ll give that a go tomorrow 👍Enjoy your family, sounds lovely 💕

@Tirednortherner wow 3 stones gone! Well done, you’ve done marvellously! 👍👏🥇

@MirandaWest Those Park runs are great! I used to do them but sadly unable to now.

Menu
Meal 1 - Full All Day Breakfast Sausage, bacon, tomato, baked beans, scrambled eggs, mUshrooms, GF bread & butter (eating @13:00 so probably OMAD)
Meal 2 - Sharing platter of vegetable crudités, hummus, olives and cheese (if needed)

Exercise - rest day 😊

@HouseofHolbein Cross posted. I love live music, it’s such a good vibe! 25k steps is impressive, is that with dancing 💃

OP posts:
MirandaWest · 14/08/2022 10:04

Have been for a run - seems last Sundays 10k wasn’t a fluke as I just ran 13k or just over 8 miles 😮 without any stopping which hasn’t happened for ages.

And up to 20,000 steps for the day already

Plus I weighed myself this morning and was suddenly 73.3kg. So since starting this losing weight thing 4 weeks ago I have lost 3.4kg or just over 7lb 😊

I think cutting back drastically on sweets and chocolate has helped with my energy and ability to run and both these things are very good. Will keep on with it 😊

TheRealHousewife · 14/08/2022 10:11

That’s fantastic @MirandaWest … reducing sugar/sweets is very beneficial. Well done! 👍👏

OP posts:
Slightlystressedbride · 14/08/2022 10:11

Wow well done @MirandaWest you're flying! I'm an occasional runner and I think we often underestimate the difference a few kilos makes to speed - still got the same muscles but carrying a few kilos more or a few kilos less extra weight can really impact your performance. When I went for a run this week I was thinking about this and imagining if someone put the 8 kilos I've lost since the start of the year in a backpack and made me wear it on that run I'd be dying! But that's what I was running with 7 months ago! Funny.
Happy Sunday everyone, hope you're all staying cool.

Rewis · 14/08/2022 11:09

@TheRealHousewife we stopped at Holkham when coming back from Sandringham. Looked really lovely! We drive around a bit and highlight was swimming with seals! As for re-applying...no idea. Either appeal the decision if finding some other proof (stupidest reasons for rejection was sited) or re-apply to a different one. I just hate the bureaucrats and I do bureaucracy for a living!
