Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Well done to all the runners managing to get out in this heat 👏

We've just got back from a weekends wild camping (which I'm sure just used to be called camping 😂). Not much exercise surprisingly but my whittling skills are coming along nicely! Reasonably on track food wise aside from the odd custard cream. Gallons upon gallons of water

Looking forward to the thunderstorms that are predicted on Tuesday, as is my garden! Off to do the weeks meal plan- going to concentrate on protein intake

fallfallfall · 14/08/2022 15:35

I’m skipping the Sunday am weigh in… possibly till Wednesday :)
cake and Chinese food is undoubtably puffing me up a tiny bit. I’ve not done a proper sweaty workout either. But they leave today! So back on track.

HouseofHolbein · 14/08/2022 17:03

@milkfromthesleepycow my parkrun was actually a walk 🤣🤣 a friend has been injured and is concentrating on trying to walk without it hurting so we had a lovely walk and catch up 😊

SanFranBear · 14/08/2022 17:11

Sounds like everyone has had a good weekend with lots of exercise and pretty healthy choices.

Camping was a lot of fun but so SO hot! We did have a beach day yesterday which was wonderful although did have a slight 😮 moment when it came to light DDs friend couldn't swim - and they were bloody miles out in a kayak! Cue me 'baywatching' into the sea and swimming for aaaages until they could hear my screeches! Talk about a panic - the tide had been out for most of the day, so pretty shallow, but when it came in - it got sooo deep, sooo quick!

Buuut, diet wise, I've been pretty slack and couldn't resist a big portion of cheesy chips on the beach yesterday! But only a couple more weeks of summer and can then really knuckle down (channelling Holbein!)

Need to go and plan some food but I just don't have it in me... I'd be happy with icecream and fruit but think the DC probably need something nutritious! Soo much effort 😉

Thank you so everyones kind words and massive well done on your continued loss, RealHousewife.. you're in the zone!!

ImALittlePea · 14/08/2022 17:36

Some excellent results and determination over the weekend! Well done ladies!

I've also been channeling @HouseofHolbeinthis week, with the exception of opting not to drink when we had lunch with friends today. I've drunk FAR too much wine and eaten WAY too much bread and crisps over the last ten days. Big reset happening tomorrow (hopefully 🤣), have meal planned and shopped for it. We've opted for one final takeaway tonight though on the basis that it's just too hot to cook, DH is suffering a bit today after taking full advantage of a free bar at a family party yesterday (which I sadly had to miss), and it'll be the last takeaway of the month. Our plans are very much dialled back from this week as DH is back at work, so I'll be able to prep more during the day when it's cooler so hopefully we won't deviate.

TheRealHousewife · 14/08/2022 18:05

@HouseofHolbein absolutely fabulous photos! Thank you for sharing!

Hi @ImALittlePea nice to see you! You’ll soon be back into a routine!

@SanFranBear well done on spotting the risks and doing a Pamela Anderson 😬

I’m a ‘puddle’ … a melted mess🥵 going to have my 3rd shower today 🚿

OP posts:
ImALittlePea · 14/08/2022 18:16

Ooh I'm jealous, I wish I could have a shower to cool down @TheRealHousewife our temperature dial is stuck and it doesn't go cool enough 😭🥵

milkfromthesleepycow · 15/08/2022 07:29

Never thought I'd be this happy to see rain!!

Out for a run tonight after work (even if I get wet). Chicken salad for lunch, chicken and veg for dinner. That should do for protein!

Hope everyone has a good start to the week 😃

ImALittlePea · 15/08/2022 08:30

No rain here yet but it's beautifully breezy!

Reset button firmly hit this morning 😬 however I'm out with DC today so not sure what lunch will be.

Dinner will be hunters chicken, new potatoes and veg. I bought lots greens yesterday so I'm going to add extra veg to my meals this week to accelerate getting back to it.

Happy Monday 🎊

MirandaWest · 15/08/2022 09:26

Had a short recovery run this morning before work - will walk at lunchtime as after work there is the potential for thunderstorms.

I think my mind and body are starting to stop craving sweets and chocolate which is good 😊

Allthegoodnamestakken · 15/08/2022 10:10

Morning All, I weighed in on saturday at 72.1kg so thats 0.9kg off last week. Hoping I didn't ruin it all with the copious amount of alcohol and the entire pizza I ate at the weekend. I weigh on saturdays and wednesdays so I have a couple of days to try and reverse any damage done.
I was at least pretty active with dog walking and horse riding so hopefully that helps.
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

CrimsonAlligator · 15/08/2022 10:24

Morning all! I had a reasonable weekend. The weather obviously made outdoor exercise a bit more tricky, but it also completely took away my appetite, so I’m sure it all balanced out.

I started today off with a 1 hour rowing session. Even though it’s a lot cooler now, it still felt a bit too humid for that kind of exercise, but I made it through…somehow 💪

Fingers crossed we all have a good week!

Benjispruce4 · 15/08/2022 12:44

Hi all. Had a lovely day at the beach yesterday to get some cooler air. Did lots of steps, Tuna salad for lunch, shared chips and curry sauce on beach in evening, shared a passion fruit and coconut ice cream 😎

TheRealHousewife · 15/08/2022 15:34

Good Afternoon Everyone 😬

There is a new food health profiling/scoring system called The Food Compass I don’t know too much about it but any system that scores an Egg 1 (the lowest score possible) is a flawed system. Eggs provide all nine amino acids and 6g of protein per egg! As part of a varied diet they are excellent in my opinion.

Menu
Meal 1 - Hummus, cottage cheese, cucumber, 1/2 apple, 5 olives, 3 gf Nairn oat crackers.
Meal 2 - Chicken salad. Walnuts
Tea, black coffee & water.
Exercise - None as back is particularly sore.

And sweet potato chips score 69???? It must be a joke. @TheRealHousewife

CrimsonAlligator · 15/08/2022 20:46

I’m not sure that it’s eggs that get that low score @TheRealHousewife . I think “egg” in this case is just an example of an instant soup flavour, like shrimp, chicken etc. I can imagine that those kind of soups wouldn’t score particularly high in terms of nutrition

Rewis · 15/08/2022 20:51

I coach football and the girls had an amazing game tonight! We were losing 0-2 but brought it back and won the damn game 3-2 in the last minute. I'm so gutted my fitbit broke cause I bet with the pacing I could have gotten 10k steps easily 😅

TheRealHousewife · 15/08/2022 22:55

@Lizsmum something is defo wrong with their list 😅

You might be right @CrimsonAlligator , it’s a little unclear. I’m still not impressed overall 😬

@Rewis well done! That’s a great result! Shame about your Fitbit not capturing your pacing steps.

Well it’s still hot hot hot here and the rain didn’t show that was promised from 15:00 onwards. Hope it comes through the night 🌧

Chat tomorrow 😊

fallfallfall · 15/08/2022 23:35

hello. i think @CrimsonAlligator is right regarding the instant soup flavors, i've seen this type in the grocery store. @Rewis that does sound exciting what age group? more pacing up and down with the older vs the under 6 ones :)
i weighted in this am, nothing too frightful. drinking my water to flush out the soya sauce and getting in the exercise minutes. on track with the meals and calories.
getting ready to book the fall trip to see my mom and daughter...i have better be down a solid 10 lbs by then (end of october).

Benjispruce4 · 15/08/2022 23:54

B- Greek yoghurt, tbsp no sugar muesli , blueberries
L- salad with half a small avocado , 1 oat cake, apple
D small portion of spaghettini bolognaise, side salad, peach

Yesterday:

Lunch - salad with lots of mixed veggies, some leftover pesto pasta, feta and a drizzle of pesto dressing
Dinner - hunters chicken, crushed newies, peas and green beans

I was SO drawn to the overfull crisp box yesterday but managed to refrain 😁

Today's plan:
Lunch - salad with feta and chickpeas and some kind of dressing (don't have the ingredients for any suggested online for this salad combo so got to hope that something I have goes well enough!)
Dinner - plans a bit up in the air but possibly a risotto with peppers, peas and pesto, with a side of broccoli and green beans

I've hit a bit of a wall in terms of school holidays. It's still so muggy here (come on, rain) and we've had such a busy first half of the hols, I think we're going to have a few 'nothing' days. Upside is being at home and being able to make sensible meal choices. Downside is kids are likely to get a bit bored (not a bad thing really, apart from the resultant nagging). Wish me luck 😂

ImALittlePea · 16/08/2022 12:07

I ended up going to the shop just for a lemon so I could make this... Well worth it!

TheRealHousewife · 16/08/2022 13:13

Good Afternoon 😊

That looks tasty @ImALittlePea 👍😋

@fallfallfall You sound determined… i like that 👍 Setting the intention is part way there.

Sorry to read you were caught in a storm @wannadisc0 … sleep deprivation is so debilitating.

Menu
Meal 1 - Granola, small banana, semi skimmed milk.
Meal 2 - Lamb chop, carrots, cabbage, skin on boiled potato and gravy.
Tea, black coffee & water.

In regards to black coffee, it’s become second nature now and I even have an Americano when out & about. It saves me about 100 cals a day.

Exercise
Session 1 - Stretching.
Session 2 - Short walk.
