Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Good Afternoon Everyone 😬

Blinky eck so many posts today!

Well done on all your WOWs 👍👏🥇Awesome progress being made! To all those who sts or gained a little, don’t sweat it just keep going 👍

My WOW - 1.2lb down in a week. My running 30 days loss is 4.4lb (according to my Weight Diary app) I’ve had a thought about my recent losses after maintaining for about a year. I’m being more mindful, actively relaxing and trying to ‘not stress the small stuff’. I think I’ve reduced my circulating cortisol (stress hormone) which, if you have too much, plays havoc with weight loss 🤷‍♀️ Fingers crossed it continues 🤞

Menu
Meal 1 - Everything in it salad with home made dressing. 5 spicy oven chips.
Meal 2 - Scrambled egg with cheese & chive & baked beans on GF thin.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Ill catch up on the thread now! Don’t forget, get the water in!

B-poached egg on a toasted crumpet, tsp ketchup
L- Wagamama salad with teriyaki chicken(500 cals), sparkling water
D- 2 baked spicy chicken thighs( skinless) with homemade light coleslaw ( half low fat mayo/ half yoghurt, tsp Dijon)
13000 steps

fallfallfall · 10/08/2022 22:23

well done @Benjispruce4 nice meal planning and step count!
:) @TheRealHousewife and all the others who are on track!!
my am weight is up but not meal choice or exercise related most likely water balance jumping about.
here's a good one for mn, a couple invited us over for appy's on monday night, as well as another couple (6 people) at FIVE PM. in canada 5 pm is typical supper time, these people are canadian...there was no supper. i assumed i would be bringing a little something to add to the supper not expecting to have my main meal of the day be canape's. there was nothing to overeat, although i expect some salt overload. i swerved the alcohol on offer with coconut water i brought from home. we left at 8, totally unfulfilled and headed to bed by 9 because we certainly do not "eat" a meal at 8:30 pm.
reminder to self, next time i'm invited to someone's home for food ask questions.
two of the canape's were FISH :(

MirandaWest · 10/08/2022 22:28

Yesterday was not good food wise - I had a day out (on my own - was very nice) and had a couple of snacks and then when I got back consumed way too many calories including a pudding Dh and I shared 😳

Decided not to get on the scales this morning but will try tomorrow.

My step count is however excellent this week - since Sunday (when my Fitbit week starts) I’ve done 101,374 steps 😊 just need to keep that up and Not Snack

Benjispruce4 · 10/08/2022 23:10

Ha ha ha @fallfallfall you poor things! Well done on not stopping off for fast food on the way home! Who invites for 5pm and doesn’t serve some properly food?? Oh well, hope dos win for you weight wise!
@MirandaWest how are you doing those steps? My steps are on my phone so not my total as I once leave my phone down for large parts of the day. I take it in my bag on walks and obvs when’s o leave the house. Must invest in a fit bit. Don’t want an Apple Watch as I’ll be distracted by texts etc

fallfallfall · 10/08/2022 23:18

@Benjispruce4 i love love love my apple watch.
and since i do ask for devine intervention as i undergo this health challenge i feel the virgin mary intervened on my behalf.
dh and i even held out on tues am until after our dog walk and bike ride and held fast to a simple breakfast of cottage cheese with a mix of melon and blueberries !

ginsparkles · 11/08/2022 07:43

Well done @TheRealHousewife !

Oh no @fallfallfall what a nightmare! You were so much better than I would have been, I'd have been in the snacks when I got in!

@Benjispruce4 I love my Apple Watch, I find i look at my phone less now as everything I need pops up on my phone and I can decide when I deal with it, but I suspect you can alter the settings so your texts don't come through to your watch.

3 Days off with DD now so pretty sure food won't be amazing, but have been for a walk, now off for a swim and then a long walk later (the puppy is certainly good for the step count!!) Worryingly there isn't much of a plan for today. I'm thinking brunch after swimming, then a little afternoon snack and the salmon we didn't get to eat last night for tea.

Enjoy the sunshine everyone 😊

Benjispruce4 · 11/08/2022 08:10

That’s interesting @ginsparkles . Beautiful early morning walk. Do you swim in the sea or at a pool? I’ve just dropped DD at the stations she’s started a job In London but I’ve got back into bed with tea and Charlie & Naga !😁

ginsparkles · 11/08/2022 08:12

At the pool at my gym. Meeting one of my friends and DD's friend there so they will play swim and we will attempt to swim around them Grin

MirandaWest · 11/08/2022 08:13

@Benjispruce4 my steps are more this week than normal - have been doing at least 10,000 a day but not much more than that.

As I work from home I need to make the effort to get steps in as otherwise I could easily just sit. So I have either a walk (3 or 4km) or a run before work, a 40 min or so walk at lunchtime and then sometimes a walk after work.

My recent steps have been helped by the 10k on Sunday as I walked to and from it another few miles, having the day off on Tuesday and walking quite a bit and doing a split shift yesterday so had time for walking in the middle of the day.

Plus I am in challenges with other Fitbit users which helps my competitive nature!

milkfromthesleepycow · 11/08/2022 08:23

Oh I'm struggling with the heat! Far too hot to do run or weights. Teaching the littlest to bike ride today so I guess that's running by stealth 😂

I love my Apple Watch too. Unfortunately have been watching my step count decline since I came back from holiday, maybe I need to use a toilet that's further away!

Got a day of high water intake and vegetables planned, just need to go to the shops to get them!

Benjispruce4 · 11/08/2022 08:53

Waking to the shops @milkfromthesleepycow ? 😂

Allthegoodnamestakken · 11/08/2022 08:59

Morning All, glad so many of you are on target after yesterdays weigh in.
Plan today is lunch - eggs on toast
dinner- homemade baked falafel and veggie salad
Trying to have quite a low calorie day today as I did quite a lot of exercise monday-wednesday so naturally felt hungrier. Today is a rest day. Also have weekend plans that are likely to be quite boozy so going to try and save myself some calories for that

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 11/08/2022 13:22

Just checking in.

Yesterday had for dinner: bean stew meal with rice. Topped with avocado, yogurt and grated cheese. Also had nectarine.

Walked for 10 mins after work to home

B: blueberries, yogurt, granola - am having no honey on this now and not missing it.
L: Giant Couscous and Feta Salad (Sainsburys) - approx 380 (?) calories for whole pot.

Snacks: Sunbites Sour Cream and Proper Corn Salted Popcorn - 136 calories.

I think the heat is making me eat more. I feel tired and bored so that's what I've done! Doesn't help that the Plantar Fasciitis in my foot (got appointment soon for insoles for it) is hurting which means I don't like walking much.

Walked approx 40 mins (?) this morning as got early to work and had errands to run before it.

Tonight there's a staff party with alcohol (not too much) and food - will detail that tomorrow.

Well done on losses everyone. Not got to last page yet of this thread!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 11/08/2022 13:26

I don't think I've gained anything or not a huge amount.

@Benjispruce4 - I love crumpets - I might try your poached egg on one tomorrow or at weekend!

@fallfallfall and @ginsparkles - I'm seriously tempted by an Apple Watch now - I have a few hundred pounds in JL vouchers that I have to use. I really need a new laptop (Macbook) but I'm considering an Apple Watch instead!

TheRealHousewife · 11/08/2022 13:42

Good Afternoon All 😊

@ginsparkles lovely photo, lovely pooch 😍 thank you for sharing! Enjoy the pool 🏊‍♀️ Great idea in this heat!

@fallfallfall Wow … I’m the other way as I tend to provide too much 😋 I love catering for our guests. At least you weren’t tempted to over indulge and didn’t bust the scales 😬

@MirandaWest You bust the thread with that step score 😮😮😮 Blummin’ we’ll done! 🥇👏👍

@Allthegoodnamestakken Good plan. I also under eat in the days prior to what I know I’ll end up over eating iyswim.

@Lizsmum sorry to read about your glaucoma diagnosis… I don’t know much about it to be honest. Here’s hoping you get the best care & medical advice !

@Gufo @RadFad @bailarbailar Hi I can’t remember if I welcomed you to the thread, I’m blaming the heat 🥵 Anyways welcome 🙏

Menu
Meal 1 - Chicken kebab, Skin on home made spicy wedges, tomato, cucumber, red onion salsa.
Meal 2 - Hone made courgette, potato and leek soup.

Tea, black coffee & water.

Keep hydrated ladies! 💧

Benjispruce4 · 11/08/2022 17:24

@HouseofHolbein Happy anniversary! ❤️ You're living my dream of living close enough to the sea!
B- rice cake with half a small avocado smashed and Tabasco
L- a few sticks of celery with a tbsp hummus . Not much appetite in this heat and had a coffee out and that always takes my appetite away.
D- Not hungry.
Anyoone else feel that if they lived alone they’d be slimmer? I end up cooking a meal and eating it whether I want it or not!

TheRealHousewife · 11/08/2022 20:33

@HouseofHolbein looks lush 😋! Happy Anniversary.

I came on to post my late lunch pic.

@TheRealHousewife I had chicken and coleslaw last night.
Tonight I had a peppered smoked mackerel fillet with a salad of leaves, radish, celery and red pepper. DH made his own.DC out. Not eaten a great deal today but feel full. Had a lot of sparkling water and coffee plus a Diet Coke. Managed just under 10,000 steps on phone.

SanFranBear · 11/08/2022 21:56

Managed to get myself out on a couple of long walks the last two days which have been most welcome. I'm hoping they'll help with tomorrow's weigh day before we go for another couple of nights camping. I'd love to say I'll do some hiking and play in the sea but I'm sure I'll just sit, watch the DC play and drink copious amounts of cider... oh well, what you going to do!

Your anniversary meal looks delicious, Holbein - congrats on the milestone. And your lunch also looks so nice, RealHousewife - really pretty! I had chorizo mussels for tea which were amazing but followed up with some liquorice allsorts which, whilst fabulous, weren't really on the plan for today.

I think I'll head up to bed shortly as have a Book Club book I need to finish, I'm pooped from my walks and will also hopefully stop any more snacking... not looking forward to the morning!

MirandaWest · 11/08/2022 22:07

Managed three walks today including one with DH after dinner so made it to 20,000 steps 😊 Eating was better today too, including breaking off one segment of chocolate and stopping then 😊

ImALittlePea · 12/08/2022 08:26

Well done in some great results this week everyone! I feel like I'm letting the side down this week, I've totally thrown the towel in with all diet efforts 🙄 resulting in a pretty substantial gain. It's our 'holiday' week though so I'm not too fussed, we've had an absolute BLAST, some wonderful days out in the sunshine, feels like we've had some real 'quality time' and it's been quietly freeing to just relax a bit more. Having said that, I'm super motivated to hit the big reset on Monday. I'm already compiling a meal plan of lovely fresh, veggie-packed meals for the rest of the month. Hopefully it won't take more than a couple of weeks to lose it again.

Happy Friday everyone ☺️

Benjispruce4 · 12/08/2022 09:20

@ImALittlePea sounds like you’ve had a great time relaxed and that’s the important thing. Just give your mind and body that time off. The important thing is what you do next. We all know that too often we think it’s pointless and give up forever but it’s not, life is up and down and so is our weight at times. Im realising that the trick is not to expect to always maintain the perfect weight but stay close and not let the gains get out of hand. You have a plan already so all be ok. 😀

ImALittlePea · 12/08/2022 09:40

Yes exactly @Benjispruce4 while I absolutely do want to lose more (and then maintain) weight, life is more than just that and happiness doesn't just come from a Friday morning number. I've definitely learned a lot about how to balance that for myself this year and while I have gone whole hog this week, I definitely do not want to eat and drink like this continuously. My mindset has fundamentally changed and I'm so proud of myself for that!
