Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Morning! Have just weighed in and 2lb down from last week.
Feeling good and hoping to keep up the momentum this week 🤞🏻

milkfromthesleepycow · 10/08/2022 07:14

Morning all. Been on holiday and am still catching up on the thread- there's lots to read! I probably won't reply as I'm SO far behind- just the usual thanks to @TheRealHousewife for an august thread

Diet while away was not great but not terrible. I did develop a slight addiction to Rolys fudge but also averaged 17k steps a day as toilets were so far from our tent pitch 😂 didn't do any formal exercise at all while away but had a 30min run last night to restart.

WOW is 10st 10 which I'm very happy with. I'm setting my August goal at 10st 8 as I want to concentrate on getting back to weights/running (and a healthier diet)
Still keeping my goal weight at 9st 7 and it actually looks achievable 😁

Rewis · 10/08/2022 07:17

SW 88.4kg
Last week: 88.4kg
This week: 88.8kg

GW 85kg

Up 0.4kg but that's OK. I was being a fun aunt the whole weekend and that required a lot of treats to remain popular 😃

Decided to add my goal weight as short term cause 3kg is a lot more achievable than 10kg for me. Then making a new goal.

Daffyaboutdaffs · 10/08/2022 07:44

Morning all. I have surprised myself after a weekend of socialising that I have actually lost a 1lb and am now under the 12 stone mark. Only just at 11 st 13.5 but it has made me happy. 7 weeks till holiday and hoping to be 11st 7 so 6.5lbs to go! No social stuff booked this weekend so fingers crossed for a 1 or 2lb loss. Keep going everyone!

Slightlystressedbride · 10/08/2022 07:55

Morning all,
Lots of losses this morning already, well done everyone!
I've maintained exactly vs last week which I'm actually quite pleased about as last week was a 2.5lb loss so I feel like I've "locked it in"! I've also had a bit of a relaxed week including a lasagne with garlic bread and a glass of possible wedding wine last night (that combo is my absolute weakness) as clearly wedding wine needed testing...again. So I'm hoping I might have a bit of a loss tomorrow once I've got rid of the water weight that's no doubt clung on to.

SW 11st 8lb
CW 10st 4.5lb
TW 9st 7lb
Wedding dress weight 9st 12lb

5 weeks to go....gah! Desperate to get into the 9s by the end of this month, though I've got a work trip to Asia (second food weakness!) and my hen to get through so it will be good going if I do!

Good luck other WoWers!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 10/08/2022 08:06

Morning all
finding it really hard to fast this morning, for some reason I have woken up with a growling stomach. Trying to make it to 11am minimum (1 hour to go).
@CrimsonAlligator thanks for sharing that it makes a lot of sense as the bulk of my exercise is high intensity unless I do a weigh lifting class. I am finding eating some carbs like a bit of pasta, toast, oats, baked potato etc. at lunch before an evening class allows me to perform a lot better and not feel like I'm going to pass out so trying to do that and stay within my calorie counts.
@Slightlystressedbride tasting wedding wine it a very important task, I also wouldn't be able to resist it alongside lasagne. Well done on the maintenance you're really close to your wedding dress target

Lizsmum · 10/08/2022 08:32

2lb off this week and I'm happy with that. Visit to the ophthalmologist yesterday and diagnosed with glaucoma. Not happy with that!

@Slightlystressedbride You can do it! No more wine tasting though.

Benjispruce4 · 10/08/2022 08:36

Still hovering above my target but within 2lb. I’m going to be stricter this week as fewer ruinous plans made. Just have to be careful that it doesn’t start to creep any further. Well done losers.

Benjispruce4 · 10/08/2022 08:38

Yesterday:
B- Greek yoghurt and berries
L- smoked mackerel fillet and green salad, apple
D- pasta with tomato and chilli sauce with salad, mini Aldi magnum(146 cals)but it was sooo good.

Sorry to hear that @Lizsmum . Can they treat it?

CocoLady · 10/08/2022 09:10

Please can I join ?? I'm so lost and I feel so big and keep eating junk and crap ! Xx

Benjispruce4 · 10/08/2022 09:11

Come on in @CocoLady you're very welcome. Recognition is the first step.😀

HouseofHolbein · 10/08/2022 09:13

@milkfromthesleepycow were you in Devon then? We used to have a rolys fudge shop in town but I think the nearest now is Ilfracombe 😊 fortunately I don't like fudge 🤣🤣

ButteryNuts · 10/08/2022 09:23

Morning everyone!

Congratulations on all the losses! Looks like a successful week so far!

I'm down 3lbs this week to 11st 12, which puts me back to my lowest weight in July before I went on a break away and piled it on. And just in time before my weekend break starting Friday! Grin I'll try be a little more sensible this time, but also it's the first time I've gone away with this friend this year so I'm not going to limit my enjoyment.

But, 3 weeks to my holiday and I'd like to be a fair bit less before I'm showing everyone my bikini body!

Gufo · 10/08/2022 09:27

Morning - thanks for the welcome and the motivation. I've lost two pounds since last Weds which I'm happy with. It's been too hot for much exercise and I've been preparing for two job interviews mainly by comfort eating! Still can't get below 11 stone though Grin.

SW: 11 stone 2
CW: 11 stone 0
GW for Aug: 10 stone something! I got stuck at 11 stone 2 for a month so hopefully out of this plateau now.

SanFranBear · 10/08/2022 09:57

Massive well done to all WoW'ers - some wonderful losses and some real motivation from you all.. loving seeing all the goal setting as well - I've found that really helps me keep on the straight and narrow.

That said, not having a very successful week - really feel I've come off the boil in recent weeks. I don't weigh on Wednesdays (thankfully for this week!!) but will be heading out for a decent walk later to try and get my mojo back! My friend is travelling back from her holidays today and was determined to come join me but pretty sure I'll be trekking solo - which works for me! We shall see...

Welcome, CocoLady - you're definitely in the right place to turn things round.. do you have a plan of action?

And LizsMum - sorry to hear of your diagnosis.. that must have come as quite a shock. I echo Benji - is there treatment available?

SingaporeSlinky · 10/08/2022 10:07

SW 10st 7
CW 9st 8
TW 9st

I had a Chinese takeaway last night, so there will be some water retention, but I was a bit shocked to have put on so much since my low of 9st 2 back in April.

Hard to get to the gym while kids are off school but I have slipped back to some old eating habits, which I need to curb again.

Benjispruce4 · 10/08/2022 10:46

Hey @SingaporeSlinky It’s easily done. I’m in the same boat with a creep up and being at home. Catching it in time is they key.

bailarbailar · 10/08/2022 11:37

I was on another thread and have lost 3.5kg since beginning of June. I'd like to lose another 4kg by Christmas. Unfortunately I have an injury which has limited my exercise but in the next couple of weeks I will try gentle jogging to see if I'm able to start running again.
Struggling a bit with feelings of guilt that o lost all the weight a few years ago and have met it go back on again :(

milkfromthesleepycow · 10/08/2022 12:22

@HouseofHolbein I was just down from you, Tintagel way 😁 I used to live in Cornwall and loved Rolys.
Unfortunately have just discovered they have one where I live now and I trying very hard to forget I know about it!!

CrimsonAlligator · 10/08/2022 12:31

Well done on all those losses everyone! I’m deliberately staying quiet about what’s happening on the scales here, which kind of says it all 🙃

I’m still tying myself into knots with all the macros etc. I basically really need to get to the chapter in my book on exercise and weightloss! In the meantime I did have the brilliant brainwave that on days when I don’t spend 60-90 minutes rowing, there’s really no need for me to eat anywhere near as much as I do on days that I do row. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to realise that 🤦🏻‍♀️ So I’m sticking to my BMR calories for today and see how that goes.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 10/08/2022 12:50

I haven't had time to weigh myself today so no idea if I've gained or lost.

Tuesday D: some sort of asparagus, egg, potato and sweet potato bake with parmesan cheese - only it didn't cook very well at all (new oven!), half of the vegetables were barely cooked - friend came over for dinner and we ended up having takeaway Chinese egg fried rice and beef stir fry instead! Plus spring rolls.
Had 2 x Rice Tea light biscuits and 2 x Itsu dark chocolate rice cakes earlier and 1 x nectarine.
Exercise: 1 x 20 minute walk

Weds
B: blueberries, yogurt and granola
L: Sainsburys pesto parmesan pasta - can't believe for the whole pot it's 380 calories, doesn't seem that filling either?!
S: Apricot but will also have a peach and Nak'd carrot cake bar
D: no idea
Exercise: 25 min approx walk to work, after work similar time to get home. Might do a 20 minute walk around park after work.

Unsure whether it's heat, being bored/unmotivated with work etc - but seem to be snacking more lately.

@SingaporeSlinky - you're me with the Chinese takeaway last night! Don't beat yourself up over gains! A few weeks ago I went from 11 stone to almost 11 and a half stone by pigging out on Pringles (whole tubs, and lots of chocolate, fruit pastilles etc). It's so easy to put on weight for whatever reason!

Lizsmum · 10/08/2022 14:19

Thank you @Benjispruce4 and @SanFranBear It was a disappointment rather than a shock as the pressure in my eyes has been a bit high for a while. Initial treatment is just nightly drops which isn't a big deal (except that I'm not very accurate aiming at my eyes) and evidently a likely side effect is that my eyelashes will grow 👁👁 which would be nice.
It didn't drive me towards a comfort eating session - hooray.

fallfallfall · 10/08/2022 15:02

@Lizsmum i was treated with laser iridotomy for normal pressure narrow angle glaucoma a few months ago. The young Dr. wasn’t clear if this was due to a glaucoma diagnosis or if it was a preventative treatment. dh has glaucoma and was treated as well with the laser iridotomy. Have you seen the eye specialist opthomologist?
