Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/pasta-recipes/lemony-courgette-linguine/

okay people without the extra drizzle of olive oil at the end and certainly no need for pasta water this 275 cal dinner was excellent!!
found a local shop that makes fresh pasta, my mandolin was perfect and the zucchini and mint fresh from the garden. dh loved it as well which is a bonus.

ImALittlePea · 19/08/2022 08:20

@fallfallfall I like the concept of that dish, but I struggle with JO recipes generally. Always too much lemon and olive oil! 😂 I remember I had the most delicious courgette pasta in Italy on honeymoon, it was just so simple and light 🤌

1.5lb off for me today! That's over half of last week's gain off, very happy with that!

Plans today a little uncertain. Taking the kids into town so we might have a cafe lunch. Dinner likely to be a cooked breakfast of some shape (depending a little on whether I have a bacon sarnie at the café today).

SanFranBear · 19/08/2022 10:29

Morning everyone - its my weigh day today and I've managed to hit just over 30kg lost since the start of the year:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 74.1kg
August GW: 72kg

Absolutely delighted.. I'd love to hit my August GW given we've still got 12 days left of the month but I'm not going to stress as where I am now seemed so unobtainable in January!

I am out at an All You Can Eat place tonight (my happy place 😉) but will try and remember to put some veggies and fruit on the plate as well as curry & sushi & sweet and sour chicken & lemon cheesecake!

I must admit I don't cook much from JO but his Lemon Drizzle cake is sooo delicious (lots of poppy seeds which definitely add a certain something!) I've got so sidetracked by Pinch of Nom that I haven't cooked many other recipes for a while - must rectify that!

TheRealHousewife · 19/08/2022 11:11

@TheRealHousewife glad it's a bit better, wise to give have a few days of rest before getting back to it.

Slightlystressedbride · 19/08/2022 14:36

Wow wow @SanFranBear congratulations!!!!

fallfallfall · 19/08/2022 15:04

Well done @SanFranBear 🥳, and well planned day @TheRealHousewife !
@ImALittlePea glad the scales moving in the right direction.
muggy but all’s well over here, hoping to see 145.? before Sunday.

milkfromthesleepycow · 20/08/2022 10:06

Well done to everyone who's losing, or STS which is still a victory!

Solidarity to those who have gained a little bit- time to get our head back in the game!

I've done a wardrobe clear out of all my clothes that are too big. I've still got two pairs of 'aspiration trousers' left but everything else now fits. It's helping me set my mindset of never going back to my previous size.

Off out for a bike ride with the kids, sausages and veg for lunch, then walking into town to get DDs ear pierced.

150lbs now and aiming for 132.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 20/08/2022 11:04

@SanFranBear Well done 30kgs is an amazing achievement, hope you enjoyed your all you can eat trip!
I weighed in at 70.9 this morning, which I'm a bit confused by as obviously I can't have lost 1kg since thursday but overall thats 1.5kg in the week so perhaps I had a lot of water in me on Thursday and no water in me today. Averaging out at around 2lb a week over the month so i'm just going to take that as a win and not stress to much about the fluctuations.
Off out for chinese food tonight and have agreed with DH that we will be sensible and share some spring rolls followed by sharing a main and some noodles. Usually we end up ordering a pile of mains and sides etc and eating until we feel gross so trying to get better at eating out sensibly.
@milkfromthesleepycow well done, I love using clothes as a goal, glad most things are now fitting. I tried on my aspiration jeans a few days ago, they don't comfortably fit but I can now do the button up at least. I also have a dress that i'm hoping to get into before winter.

MirandaWest · 20/08/2022 11:34

Haven’t posted for a few days but the weight loss is continuing, as is the improved running both of which make me happy 😊

This minting I was 72.6kg so have lost 4.1kg since starting this 5 weeks ago. Am very happy with that. Initial goal weight is 70kg and then I’ll see how things go.

Benjispruce4 · 20/08/2022 18:20

Hey everyone. Been awol a few days owing to A level results day not going quite to plan but all ok now. DD did well but didn’t quite make her grades. Has a place elsewhere now so can all breathe again! 👋🏻 to @MirandaWest.
The upside is, stress made me have no appetite and I am now below TW by 1lb. So, every cloud and all that.😊
Great news @SanFranBear and @Slightlystressedbride Iin the words of Kate Bush, don’t give up!!Find calorie free pleasure 😜

SanFranBear · 20/08/2022 22:15

Late one today but thank you everyone for your lovely words! I did have a very indulgent evening last night but, unexpectedly my DC decided to stay another night with their Dad, so I made sure to get my butt out for a hike this afternoon. Managed 21k so hoping that means any damage from last night has been mitigated a little.

You're brave with your clothes, milk - I need to do similar but a little bit of me doesn't believe I'll keep it all off, despite my determination. We're hoping to move in the next few months so will throw my 'too big' wardrobe out then (I can't donate any of it as its all soooo old and worn and misshapen!)

Glad your DD is sorted, Benji - sounds stressful but hopefully her new choice will suit her even better!

Allthegoodnames - weight is a funny thing but definitely embrace the loss! And well done for Chinese will power... not something I have at all!

Hope you're mending up well, RealHousewife - thanks, as always, for your motivating words!

I'm off to bed shortly, I think - pooped and relishing the thought of one more, childfree night of rest!

SanFranBear · 20/08/2022 22:18

Meant to leave this one here for you, RealHousewife... a super cute little foal. Not sure if the photo does them justice as they were just so sweet 😍

milkfromthesleepycow · 21/08/2022 07:17

@SanFranBear wow 21k!! You're rocking the hiking! Love the picture. Makes me want to go for a walk today but sadly I don't think it's the weather for Dartmoor today

@Benjispruce4 glad your DD has sorted a place. And now you're below target weight- whoop whoop 👏 👏

Yesterday went to plan which I'm very pleased about. Feel like my heads back in the right place so off to concentrate on consistency!

TheRealHousewife · 21/08/2022 18:53

Hi. I've just come across this and really needed something like this to get me started on my weight loss journey. I realise it's too late to join the August one. I hope there's a September thread too!

HouseofHolbein · 22/08/2022 04:33

@CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow never too late to join in! Jump on and introduce yourself and start properly in September if that works for you 😊 welcome it's lovely to meet you 😘

CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow · 22/08/2022 08:43

Thank you for your warm welcome and encouragement, @HouseofHolbein.

Here goes: I need to lose around 10kg. But my weaknesses are chocolate, cakes, biscuits etc. If there's any in the house, I'll eat it. The whole load - not just a nibble. I'd bought some treats for the kids but they hadn't eaten it. Yesterday, DH took the kids out to see some friends. I ate: one entire packet of chocolate fingers, two packets of Bueno, on Magnum ice ream and one Kit Kat Chunky. That was dinner. I felt crap afterwards. My previous form was two weeks ago, where I ate 6 jam doughnuts and a tub of Ben and Jerry's ice cream in one sitting.

I always cook healthy for the kids and DH, but end up eating crap myself and don't touch the healthy stuff.

I also have fatty liver and my father was diabetic so I need to be careful.

To do any weight loss, I need to go completely cold turkey off sweet things.

From today, I'll try the 16:8 intermittent fasting until September and eat one large healthy meal. Then I'll review again in September to see if it's worked and think about different eating plans if it hasn't.

I also need to find time to go for walks/exercise in between working full-time and minding the kids and eating crap!

Wish me luck!

HouseofHolbein · 22/08/2022 09:29

16:8 is a good start 😊 also I noticed a big difference when I made the effort to do 10k steps every day as a minimum. That included walking on the spot in front of the tv or having a dance in the kitchen 🤣🤣

Crisps are my downfall along with alcohol. I've had quite a few nights out recently which haven't helped my weight loss but life is all about balance isn't it?

Anyway good luck and keep posting 😊 we're lovely here

Allthegoodnamestakken · 22/08/2022 09:32

Welcome @CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow I am similar with snacks, if they are in the house I just can't help myself. I have had to just stop buying sweets, crisps, chocolate etc. I buy myself one bar at the weekend and thats it because I know if its in the house I will eat it. Yesterday I went to a friends house and ate so many crisps I felt sick because she had huge bowls out and I just can't control myself.

My weight is confusing again this morning, Back up to 72.1 probably due to yesterdays crisps and alcohol. Think I need to get better at sticking to my weigh ins twice weekly instead of giving in to the temptation to get on and off the scales every day. Plan for today is
Lunch- porridge and fruit
Dinner - Chickpea + butternut burgers in home made pitta with salad.

CrimsonAlligator · 22/08/2022 10:34

Welcome to the thread @CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow . I’m terrible for going spectacularly off plan from time to time and summer holidays are just the worst for that as it’s much more difficult to shake the “I deserve a treat” mindset.

What helped me is replacing some of the crappy snacks with healthier ones. I love crisps, but have started to replace them with ryvitas with a bit of cheese or peanut butter. It’s more calories than a single packet of crisps, but as there’s no such thing as “a single packet of crisps” in my world, that usually works out as a much better option.

MirandaWest · 22/08/2022 12:17

Over the weekend I had more calories than usual and also fewer steps plus a whole two pints of lager shandy (don’t usually drink alcohol) but was in the good cause of my sister and BIL coming up to see a gig DS was performing in so is fine. Had a little look at the scales this morning and while a little up still better than a few weeks ago.

Working a split shift today so get a few hours off this afternoon. Planning a nice walk - had a small run before work this morning too

MirandaWest · 22/08/2022 12:18

I have to just stop eating sweets and chocolate at all as am incapable of stopping. And then I never feel properly hungry and so keep eating all the wrong things. Is a bit rubbish but so is getting bigger and not liking how I look so I am managing to stick at it

milkfromthesleepycow · 22/08/2022 13:19

@CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow snacking is the worst temptation isn't it? I find myself succumbing when I've let a meal slide to too late or I've got caught out and need to eat outside the house. So I'd recommend planning for it - cut up veg and healthy snacks in the fridge etc

And welcome to the thread!

I'm still struggling with meal planning at the moment. Ended up grabbing some chicken and mince from Tesco Express yesterday (SO much more expensive than usual!) as im on 12 hour shifts for the next two days and needed to be prepared! Managed to cobble together a halloumi salad from bits in the fridge for lunch today so hopefully can stay away from the (copious) biscuits at work until I get home!

Not planning any exercise until Wednesday as I'll be knackered

TheRealHousewife · 22/08/2022 15:04

Good Afternoon Everyone and a warm welcome to @CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow < BTW love your username 😬You’ve come to the right place for support and encouragement 👍Keep reading & posting, we’ll get you there! You’re bang on in regards to having an eye on health issues. There is so much we can prevent or reverse by eating a nutritious healthy diet. Case in point; my OH generally follows my lead diet/food wise but recently he’s being feeling stressed and tackling it by eating more sweet stuff and hitting the wine/beer. We regularly self check our blood pressure at home and we were alarmed that his reading was well in the red/danger zone (whilst mine were in the normal range so knew monitor was working properly) Contact with GP surgery got him an immediate appointment this am and a prescription for Ramipril! Hasten to add he’s back on the healthy foods. Side note, I was already aware of the research that states people have more heart attacks on Monday mornings than any other time of the week although I did not mention that to OH as did not want to stress him out (also my ex manager late 40’s dropped dead 7:15am on a Monday morning having suffered a HA.) < I don’t normally write gloomy posts 😬

@milkfromthesleepycow it must be tough trying to plan & prepare healthy food around working 12 hour shifts ❤️Halloumi (browned off in a small amount of hot sesame oil) is one of my favourite go too’s 👍

@MirandaWest Hope you get your walk in, it’ll make a difference! It’s tough when you’re an habitual snacker and it needs some seriously resolute head space to get in the ‘groove’ and change habits.

Today I tray baked a load of tomatoes, onions, courgettes, red pepper, carrots and garlic. All but the garlic and onions were out of the garden so feel a bit proud. I then wizzed it all up into a thick sauce that can either be used as a pasta sauce or thinned down into a soup. The pic I shared includes one of the carrots I harvested this morning but didn’t use as had enough.

Menu
Meal 1 - Courgette, potato and leek soup & GF thin.
Meal 2 - Zarb Pasta, chicken, mushrooms in home made pasta sauce. Apple & walnuts.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Floor exercises 10 minutes.
Session 2 - Lesley Sansone 15 minute video. The other week someone mentioned a LS vid that also included squats but couldn’t find it. Anyone have the correct title or a link to share please?

Im liking the cooler weather.
