Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

@RadFad Lunch ideas that work for me - a whole pack of prawns plus a few baby tomatoes. Ready cooked chicken slices plus some salads bits. A tin of sardines or similar. A whole avocado.

ImALittlePea · 17/08/2022 08:36

Well done everyone so far!

@Slightlystressedbride one month to go! So exciting. When eating out try and make sensible swaps where you can eg salad instead of chips, sauces/dressings on the side, don't eat bread (burger without bun, swerve garlic bread sides etc). If drinking, pick a low cal / cal free soft drink to alternate with alcohol maybe. And agree with @Lizsmumthat puddings are never worth it 😉

@RadFad lunches are tricky to get inspired over, especially if you want something quick. I went through a long spell of having a cup-a-soup with chopped veggies. DH has a pitta or bread and butter alongside it. This week I've made a big bowl of salad which should do three days. Can you batch cook something that you can portion up for lunches?

Thank you. Good ideas for things to quickly grab. I like tinned sardines/mackerel.

I cooked a chickpea curry yesterday and portioned it for work to freeze but maybe I should do similar for days off too. I slip up more on days off, the structure of work helps, plus no biscuit tin in the office Grin

Morning all! My weight skyrocketed this morning, but I’m fairly certain that’s down to all the exercise I did + getting a bit dehydrated. That’s my theory anyway!

@RadFad one of my go to lunches is falafel, pitta bread, a touch of chilli mayonnaise and lots of salad, cucumber, gherkins and carrot sticks. That comes to around 450 calories and keeps me full for a while 😊

SanFranBear · 17/08/2022 12:50

Well done WoW'ers, whatever your result. I think getting into the routine of a weekly weigh makes you focus - well, certainly works for me!

I'll definitely be WoW'ing myself later but not sure if my friend will be accompanying me as she dislikes the wet and we're due rain (and storms)... I'm feeling very out of sorts though and walking always improves my mood!

And RadFad - I tend to have crackers and babybel, berries, Greek yoghurt or a nice soup for lunch. Not always very exciting and if I skip breakfast and I'm WFH, then eggs are pretty much always on the menu as they're so versatile (although I adore soft boiled eggs so that's what I have, with soldiers of course!)

Glad you liked the risotto, fallfall. I'll be making it later - a perfect bowl of warm comfort after my potentially soggy hike 😆

Gufo · 17/08/2022 12:54

My weight has gone up 3lbs! A few days I was 10.13 and now I'm back at the 11.2 plateau. I'm blaming all the external factors (TOTM and heatwave water retention) and ignoring the cheese and crisps I've snaffled.

Gufo · 17/08/2022 13:02

Other lunch ideas:

  • peanut butter on brown bread with an apple and/or orange

  • tin of tuna, lettuce, tomatoes - and whatever other salad bits you have in

  • red lentil and tomato dhal (batch cooking this right now)

  • scrambled egg on toast

fallfallfall · 17/08/2022 13:47

@Slightlystressedbride check out the restaurant menu now and plan those meals. Request half portions, look if an appy is actually a meal if combined with a salad. Soups are safe.
Plan a youtube fitness video to do in your room, if the hotel has a gym get on the treadmill.

fallfallfall · 17/08/2022 14:29

@RadFad our go to lunch is soup; portioned out and frozen.

RadFad · 17/08/2022 14:52

Some great ideas thank you.
I make a chunky veg soup in winter but I need some other go to soups otherwise I get bored.

fallfallfall · 17/08/2022 15:03

@RadFad currently in the freezer; beef and barley as well as broccoli and cheese. Umm I should put together a chicken broth…

TheRealHousewife · 17/08/2022 15:09

Good Afternoon Everyone 😬

So many posts since yesterday!

WOW for me 1/2lb on which is fine. Well done losers 👍👏 Well done to those who have sts or gained a little but are carrying on! It’ll happen!

Sorry just a quick one, back very sore and pins and needles in hands/fingers which is unsettling and makes typing a chore.

I’ll see you tomorrow 👍

PS great recipe @SanFranBear , looks tasty 😋

Hi everyone

Really pleased to have got over my most recent plateau. Consistency at eating in deficit, not even dropping calories much further and I’ve pushed through and got to 10st7. Scales weighed at 10st 6.6 but I round them as don’t want to be that precise 🤣

Was stuck at 10st8-9 for a while which was fine but nice to have some (small) progress.

4 weeks til my next holiday. Half a stone off and being at 10st would be nice but no pressure on it. Consistency is what’s paying off for me.

I personally don’t always see my nearly 3 stone loss and feel I don’t look to have lost that much but my friends colleagues etc have all commented on it and I’ve had to go down a size in uniform. I feel better overall. In shock to have finally had this success after 5 years of issues and failed starts etc

Hope everyone’s getting on okay x

CrimsonAlligator · 17/08/2022 18:44

This is a quick & easy recipe @RadFad (plus healthy, cheap and tasty!)

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/spiced-carrot-lentil-soup

If you have a blender, there’s really no need to grate the carrots. I like to change up the spices, either with some curry powder, or by adding a big spoonful of harissa 🔥

TheRealHousewife · 18/08/2022 06:31

Good Morning All

Great progress @Tirednortherner . It’s encouraging and motivating for your friends, family and colleagues to have noticed your significant loss. Well done 👍👏🥇

Tasty recipe @CrimsonAlligator , thank you for sharing!

Menu
Meal 1 - Halloumi stir fry with red pepper, kale, red onion, carrot and butter beans.
Meal 2 - Home made tomato sauce with Zenb pasta and a sprinkle of parmigiana cheese. Orange.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise - on rest. Back pain is now in hip/groin/lower back, ouch.

Morning all
SW-76kg
CW-71.9
GW-65kg
Not much loss for me in the last 5 days with only 0.2kg difference its more like maintenance but hey at least it wasn't a gain.
Hoping to see 70 on the scale before the end of August

ImALittlePea · 18/08/2022 07:44

Well done @Tirednortherner that's a great overall loss and you sound in such a good place! Consistency is everything, agreed.

I hope your pain subsides soon @TheRealHousewife

I had a super stressful afternoon yesterday and I ended up having a glass a few glasses of wine 😏 I don't normally drink if I've had a bad day, but I just couldn't be arsed to care last night in the end. ALL the water today to try and mitigate the resulting weigh in tomorrow!

Meals:
Lunch - the last of the feta and chickpea salad
Dinner - veggie curry

SingaporeSlinky · 18/08/2022 08:40

Forgot to WOW yesterday but pleased to say I’m heading back downwards again

Slightlystressedbride · 18/08/2022 10:33

@Benjispruce4 @Lizsmum @ImALittlePea thanks so much for the encouragement!!
I actually have some travel scales which I'll be taking with me, I'm only going for a week but I usually weigh daily so hopefully that will maintain some structure. I'm not a massive dessert/sweet person which helps but I adore carbs and it's been staying off them which has been key for me. I'll just have to keep the dress thoughts front of mind, you're right I'll feel so disappointed in myself if I give in and then it feels a bit tight on the day.
Might be leaning on this thread a bit next week to keep me on the straight & narrow!

ImALittlePea · 18/08/2022 10:37

Lean away @Slightlystressedbride

Slightlystressedbride · 18/08/2022 10:44

Thank you 💕

It's telling when I first read that I thought you meant "from the bread bowl" and thought, yes you're right, I do need to lean away from the bread bowl next week

ImALittlePea · 18/08/2022 12:46

Haha @Slightlystressedbride
