Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

It was delicious but it needed more green so I'm going to have it on a bed of lettuce tomorrow 😊

SanFranBear · 16/08/2022 13:42

Howdy all... hope everyone is seeing a bit of the forecast rain today! We've had a bit of drizzle, one decent downpour and then hopefully a storm later - love a good storm (especially in a tent, wannadisc0 - takes me back to my youth as practically grew up camping!) I do hope you get a better sleep tonight though - all that walking (and a few pints!) should help.

Nice looking salad, LittlePea - and your risotto talk has made me decide to make one tomorrow as I do love them and haven't made one in ages! Likely do a green bean and potato one as really low calorie (well, if I don't add walnuts but I do love walnuts!) but soooo tasty!

I used to always have my coffee black, RealHousewife - but have developed a bit of a taste for a nice, creamy latte these days... rarely have them though as my heart belongs to tea (Earl Grey... hot!)

Tacos for tea which I am already looking forward to... my appetite seems to have returned with a vengeance over the last few weeks - I'm blaming the holidays and the heat!

Good luck with those who WoW tomorrow - I sense good news ahead!

ImALittlePea · 16/08/2022 14:21

Ooh now tacos needs to go on my list @SanFranBearand I don't think I've ever had risotto with potato?!

I'm also married to tea, although just English breakfast for me. I do like an oat latte though when I'm out.

We've had some light drizzle today. YAY! Need more but the air already feels cooler and lighter.

Rewis · 16/08/2022 14:34

@fallfallfall my players are over 18 so majority are young adults but a few are a bit older. So technically women but in sports we tend to go by girls (in a respectful manner). But definitely a lot of pacing with this age group. We have a shot at winning the league so got to get the points!

SanFranBear · 16/08/2022 14:52

Here's the recipe if you fancy it, LittlePea... apparently from Genoa so guess potatoes are their thing. Super tasty though and when I made this into a recipe on MFP, it came out as 379 calories per portion (for 4 portions!) although that's without walnuts 😉

SanFranBear · 16/08/2022 14:53

Oh, meant to add - I just use stock cubes rather than creating veggie stock from scratch... probably makes it very inauthentic but still very tasty!

CrimsonAlligator · 16/08/2022 14:57

Good to hear the rain is slowly spreading through the country. It’s been raining here (western edge of Wales) since Sunday evening, but I thought it best not to mention that while everyone else was still baking!

I never thought I’d see the words potato and risotto in the same sentence on MN @SanFranBear I’m sure that if you posted that on some of the other diet threads, you would have had the carb police on your case in no time 😂 No judgement from me. In fact I might also make myself a risotto tonight!

I finished the first phase of my rowing programme today with a 12 km long row. I was kind of dreading it, but it went a lot better than I expected. My backside may need a few days to recover though 🤣

fallfallfall · 16/08/2022 16:30

@wannadisc0 my past tenting experiences were so awful as soon as we could afford a trailer I bought one. A classy small 16ft airstream, 12 years now! Never willingly getting back in a tent.
Happy to report 146.7 so on par with last Wednesday.

ImALittlePea · 16/08/2022 16:34

That looks lovely! Thank you @SanFranBear, I'll definitely be giving it a go!

And same @CrimsonAlligator the combination would never occur to me!

fallfallfall · 16/08/2022 18:19

@SanFranBear i might just make that tonight...my yellow wax beans are ready to be eaten, i have basil in the garden and lot of old potatoes that need using up. plus a nearly finished block of parmesan cheese...i'll keep you posted

Allthegoodnamestakken · 16/08/2022 18:53

@SanFranBear is it easy to make? I love risotto but have never been brave enough to make it at home.
Today's meals where baked potato and beans with a smidge of cheese and grilled chicken with vulgar wheat and green bean salad. No low carbing in this house so risotto with potatos sounds great 😂
Tomorrow I have a very long day so I've got some overnight oats incase I need breakfast, leftover chicken and bulgur for lunch and I might do homemade burgers without the buns with salad and carrot fries for dinner. Will see how energetic I'm feeling when I get home.

SanFranBear · 16/08/2022 20:22

Oooh... hope the risotto is a success, fallfall - definitely let us know what you think.

And Allthegoodnames, it is ridiculously easy - the hardest part is prepping the bloody shallots (although am sure you could use the equivalent amount of finely diced onion!).. totally worth it though - one of my favourite meals!

fallfallfall · 16/08/2022 23:53

well well well it's very yummy and i've not yet added the cheese or basil.
i cut the butter and oil in half and used a non stick pan :), then used a blended rice (some white, some brown and some wild). the technique of adding in the liquid gradually worked great. now to keep my spoon out of the darn thing. the butter/oil/wine gives it a nice flavor.
based on my calculations a 275 g serving will be 261 calories (without the cheese at this point). i might add in some of my roasted red peppers for additional color.

milkfromthesleepycow · 17/08/2022 06:15

Morning all
1.5lb gain this week for me, suspect it relates to the number of ice creams I had during the hot weather!! Should have stuck to the lollies 😂
Still, I'm feeling surprisingly positive. Fairly confident I know what I need to do to turn it around and we'll see what next week brings!
Good luck for anyone weighing today

Rewis · 17/08/2022 07:17

SW 88.4kg
Last week: 88.8kg
This week: 88.1kg

GW 85kg

Daffyaboutdaffs · 17/08/2022 07:23

Morning all just weighed in and have stayed the same. Didn’t do much exercise last week as I have hurt my knee. I’ve been ‘fairly’ good on the diet so not much of a surprise. Need a big push if I’m actually going to lose another half stone before hols! Lost 6 lbs so far…

bailarbailar · 17/08/2022 07:52

Morning all,
Terrible night's sleep last night not putting me on a great mood this morning!
Have lost 0.3kg/about half a pound. I didn't do much exercise this week due to the heat and now the torrential rain so that's probably better than expected.
Progress does feel very slow atm though. Food has been very good the past week
Hope everyone else is going well

Slightlystressedbride · 17/08/2022 08:16

Morning all,
Another 1lb down here which I'm pretty pleased with...

SW 11st 8lb
CW 10st 3.5lb
TW 9st 7lb
Wedding dress weight 9st 12lb one month to go now!

Bit worried about how I'm going to maintain progress 2H of the month as I've got a work trip for a few days and my hen do (hen do I think I will just throw caution to the wind, you only do it once!) Any tips for staying on the straight and narrow while away in hotels client dinners etc v welcome! I'm not looking forward to it tbh, nice restaurants are my weak spot!

Good luck all the WoWers!

Lizsmum · 17/08/2022 08:20

Starting weight 15 stone at the end of March
Current weight 12 stone 8lbs
Loss this week 2lbs
Goal 12 stone 7lbs by the end of August

To be a vaguely healthy weight I need to lose another 3 stone but thinking about that is too depressing. Focusing on little short term goals seems to motivate me more. And as I 'reward' myself for each goal achieved it's a win-win.

RadFad · 17/08/2022 08:23

Morning!
1lb down this week. 3lb in total. I'm very surprised I had a loss this week, the heat and school holidays have really upended my positive changes.
New week, get back on it.

HouseofHolbein · 17/08/2022 08:24

Forgot to weigh in but have just been for a 5 mile coastal path walk 😊 absolutely glorious!

Work later so nice to get out and get some fresh air

Benjispruce4 · 17/08/2022 08:25

Morning all . Happy to say I have maintained (0.5lb+) TW.
Happy with that as have not been focused as much as I’m at home, adult DDs at home etc so I think it shows I am balancing out my eating.
Good luck to all and thank heavens for the rain 🌧!!

RadFad · 17/08/2022 08:26

Does anyone have any lunch ideas they could share? That's the meal I've always struggled with. Particularly your go to lunches when you can't be bothered to make something?

Benjispruce4 · 17/08/2022 08:27

@Slightlystressedbride you are so close! Amazing. Well done!
@Lizsmum wow what a loss 😊. Keep going.

Lizsmum · 17/08/2022 08:27

@Slightlystressedbride you can absolutely do this! I understand about the attraction of restaurant meals. But just for the next month go for the plainest dishes and tell yourself that desserts are always disappointing. (And it's TRUE, they are) The photographs of you looking amazing in your dress will be worth so much more than a momentary pleasure eating rich food.
