Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

I was thinking because we all weigh in on different days, we could post when we’ve weighed in, and then I’ll update the main post every Sunday, and add in any new people then too?

If I’ve missed any weight updates I'm so sorry. Please comment again and I’ll amend it

Thanks for doing that, it's great!

recklessgran · 07/08/2022 12:37

@hedgehog91 @Transformatio @SnowyMouse @Diegofrompennyburn I'm a daily weigher too. I'm not sure whether it's impatience at wanting to see the results of my efforts or just some kind of reassurance that I'm doing the "diet thing" correctly!

SnowyMouse · 07/08/2022 12:51

@recklessgran I know what you mean!

OhFatty · 07/08/2022 12:59

@recklessgran I’m desperate to weigh myself more often. This week has been rubbish, and although I’ve pretty much stuck to 1500 calories, I haven’t done as much walking as I’m aiming for (and it’s hardly anything anyway), or drunk much water. I’m dreading tomorrow, and have been so tempted to weigh myself, but I’d get obsessed and be on the scales after every wee. I can’t do anything in moderation!

I usually weigh every day but record my weight on the Monday but haven't dared to weigh for past few days - 60th birthday yesterday and been letting extra treats slip in here and there over the past week. Planning to start again tomorrow- first smallish milestone will be to lose as much as I can by 12th September which is my wedding anniversary.

OhFatty · 07/08/2022 13:39

YOUR birthday @Eviebeans ? If so, Happy Birthday!! Of course you’ve let some treats slip in!

Starting tomorrow will give you 5 weigh ins until your anniversary. You could lose a nice little chunk in that time!

Sunday check in data, not sure what we are submitting so

Starting weight 175lb
Weight today 171lb

-4lb since starting

Target is 154 lb so 4 lost and 17lb to go

Let me know what it actual is that we should be submitting on a Sunday

OhFatty · 07/08/2022 14:27

Well done @christmas2022 you’ve had a great week.

what I was thinking was that if people submit their weight loss on the day they weigh in (or the day they choose, if they weigh every day), I’ll update the chart every Sunday.

You haven’t put a target by Christmas down yet (or I might have missed it). If you’ve got one in mind, let me know and I’ll add it on.

Have a look at a post earlier today where I put all the names down, as I’m probably not explaining very well!

Ive no idea why it looks like that. I only copied and amended it. I don’t want to do it again until next Sunday as everyone tagged will be getting alerts. Sorry

@OhFatty thanks for doing this it’s great!! My goal weight loss by Christmas is actually 28lb not 14lb but that’s cool I will add that info on to my next weigh in (tomorrow) and then the list can be updated whenever!

This group has already helped me. Knowing that others are also dieting at the same time with the same Christmas goal is reassuring for some reason. Xx

OhFatty · 07/08/2022 17:05

@hedgehog91 I’m so sorry, and I can’t even blame my typing because I went through all the posts and wrote everything down first. I’ve just fished the paper out of of them bin, ready to blame my typing, autocorrect, my phone, mumsnet, but no. I’m a dick. I’ll put it right for you next week, sorry. ----

That’s so much for doing the list @OhFatty. Is there a weigh in day that is actually easier for you to update stuff?

christmas2022 · 07/08/2022 18:47

OhFatty · 07/08/2022 14:28

Sorry, I’ve just reread your post. 21lbs by Christmas, and 4 of that already gone

Yes that's right.

Will update next Sunday then with any additional pounds lost.

It's 19 weeks till Christmas and I have 17 to go so will aim for 1lb each week and see how that goes.

Thanks for setting up this thread.

OhFatty · 07/08/2022 18:47

I don’t really mind @TheBatwoman I weigh first thing on a Monday, but I thought doing the week once a week would be less annoying for everyone. I thought it would be easy enough to copy and paste, to update but it looks completely different and there are loads of gaps. I’m hopeless at stuff like this, and don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

OP posts:
hedgehog91 · 07/08/2022 19:16

@OhFatty don’t be silly! No need for any apologies at all. I am just so happy and appreciative that you created this thread as it’s given me the kick up the backside that I needed!

EstateAgentz · 07/08/2022 19:21

Anyone want to have a go at making three (or one or however many you want) pledges from tomorrow for the week ahead to increase chances of a successful week?

Here's mine:

  1. Drink at least 1.5L water per day
  2. Exercise at least 3 x during week (Could be walk, jog, swim, gym or home workout)
  3. Log EVERYTHING on Nutracheck
recklessgran · 07/08/2022 19:23

Me too @OhFatty please don't underestimate how grateful we all are to you for starting this thread and helping us all to feel supported and part of a bigger group as @hedgehog91 said! .

WheelofLife · 07/08/2022 19:45

Thank you so much for doing that @OhFatty Awesome work.

Im still 70.5 kilos. Don’t understand this as I had two days where I didn’t eat until dinner time. Didn’t exercise as much though. Determined to d better this week

OhFatty · 07/08/2022 19:56

@WheelofLife Im the last person that should be giving diet advice, but I’ve read everything I can.

Do you think you’re eating enough calories? Last time I tried to diet I ate between 800 and 1000 calories a day. I did lose weight but it was slower than this time where I eat 1500, and don’t feel hungry. Could you try eating a bit more this week and see if it gets the scales moving again? You must be pretty close to your target weight.

I love this group. I’m hoping it can carry on after Christmas for anyone that needs to. It can be like a cheaper, better slimming world

thank you all for doing this with me

I've done pretty awful for food this weekend, LO's sleep has been terrible again and thats wiped my discipline out. I've stayed active though, 11,000 steps yesterday and 7000 today which includes pram pushing with shopping bags up steep hills so a small positive at least. Tomorrow is another day. I need to think about a realistic goal for the list @OhFatty, don't want to set myself up to fail .

TheBatwoman · 07/08/2022 20:09

Absolutely - just wanted to see if there was anything that would make it easier. Thanks again @OhFatty. I think everyone is just incredibly grateful for your efforts and support - I sure am!

isthatwhatyoureallywanted · 07/08/2022 20:15

Can I join you? I need to lose the stone I gained during the August/December period last year and have been meaning to lose since Jan. I've yo-y I'd the same three or so pounds umpteen times since.
One of my problems is that I'm not entirely sure how I gained so much weight so quickly. Other problems include laziness, lack of will power and general hatred of getting hot & sweaty plus job and two children.
I was 11st 6 on Thurs. I want to be 10st5 by 14th Dec. To be honest though, I'll be delighted to get below 11st again and thrilled if I can get back to 10st 9.
