Diet for Christmas challenge

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

@WheelofLife Im the last person that should be giving diet advice, but I’ve read everything I can.

Do you think you’re eating enough calories? Last time I tried to diet I ate between 800 and 1000 calories a day. I did lose weight but it was slower than this time where I eat 1500, and don’t feel hungry. Could you try eating a bit more this week and see if it gets the scales moving again? You must be pretty close to your target weight.

Thank you. I think I eat enough most days. I was just trying the 5:2 thing. I’m really bloated just now so my results could be a bit skewed. Just had my food allergies tested as I’ve clearly got a food intolerance of some sort. Maybe when that gets sorted it will settled.

And exercise!!! :)

Thanks for including me in the group :);

I would love to join in too. Have been WFH for the past 2 yrs and the weight has crept on. Finally back in the office so getting more steps in. Have around 5 st to lose in total but would love to lose around 2st before Christmas.
Going to weigh first thing on a Monday morning. count calories on my fitness pal and drink a lot more water.

Readytostartagain · 07/08/2022 21:09

Many thanks @OhFatty for the list and the thread. Been on holiday so my 21lb to lose will probably be more when I weigh in tomorrow 😞

Anyone want to have a go at making three (or one or however many you want) pledges from tomorrow for the week ahead to increase chances of a successful week?

Here's mine:

  1. Drink at least 1.5L water per day
  2. Exercise at least 3 x during week (Could be walk, jog, swim, gym or home workout)
  3. Log EVERYTHING on Nutracheck

I will! I’m going to copy your first one!

  1. Drink more water
  2. No eating past 7pm
  3. Ensure I don’t skip breakfast. I need to make time every morning to sit and eat a healthy breakfast to set me up for the day.
Eviebeans · 08/08/2022 05:45

Morning everyone I weighed myself this morning and to my great surprise I weigh 10.9 and 1/8, which is not as bad as I thought it might be - I'd been well and truly off the wagon and eaten all sorts of things. But I'm on it again today.
I pledge to drink as much water/liquid based drinks (peppermint tea etc) as I can, that should be easier this week as it will be hot where I am.
I use the intermittent fasting way of eating.
Hope it goes as planned for everyone.

Eviebeans · 08/08/2022 05:47

@OhFatty thanks for the list and the encouragement

TheBatwoman · 08/08/2022 07:14

Morning, weigh in update for this week is down 3lb from last week (4lb down overall now from the starting weight). Think I am the only one working in kg, so I converted to lbs - hopefully that’s easier for the list!

I’ll try the pledges too.

  1. Work out min 5 times this week
  2. Increase portions of fruit & veg (5 a day)
WutheringShites86 · 08/08/2022 07:18

Well done @TheBatwoman, that's a great loss!

christmas2022 · 08/08/2022 07:20

Well done @TheBatwoman

What kind of exercise do you do?

isthatwhatyoureallywanted · 08/08/2022 07:35

Morning
First official weigh in for me and I'm 11st 4 so a 2lb loss. If I could continue to lose 2lbs every five or so days, then I'd be the size I want to be by half term! However, most of that 2lbs is just holiday bloat. It will be more of an effort from here on in.
My goals are:

  • 10,000 steps a day (already done over 5000 having been on a walk and am off shopping for back to school stuff later so will easily hit that target today)
  • 1.5l of water
  • no ultra processed food
I was going to say no alcohol but I'm out both tonight & tomorrow so will only be setting myself up to fail!
hedgehog91 · 08/08/2022 07:35

Well done! 3lb is great!

I’ve lost 0.8lb …. slightly short of my target but I guess better than nothing!

TheBatwoman · 08/08/2022 08:01

Thank you. Was much needed after a poor week last week!

I’ve been doing mostly HIIT workouts recently @christmas2022. I also like running, but had a bit of a setback with that recently. Will be adding more runs back in in the coming weeks. Plan is to focus on cardio for the time being.

Julesni77 · 08/08/2022 09:12

Well done everyone - all seem very motivated! And thanks so much @OhFatty for keeping track of us all! I will report back tomorrow after a week of good and bad days ......

WutheringShites86 · 08/08/2022 09:17

I've stayed the same, not surprised as I had such a mixed week. Not sure if I gave my SW - 15st 7lbs. I've always been big and this is actually a stone lower than what my average used to be, so I need to remind myself of that sometimes! But I did get down to 14.10 which was my lowest in years on maternity leave then it has crept back on since being back in work full time for almost a year and just never having time for myself 😫

christmas2022 · 08/08/2022 09:26

@WutheringShites86

The positive is that after a mixed week you didn't put on.

Would the pledges thing work to help you stay on track this week? Is there anything in particular you'd like to work on?

WutheringShites86 · 08/08/2022 09:51

Thank you @christmas2022.

Yes, let's give this a shot:

  1. Stick to my meal plan (not resorting to Takeaway and convenience food when tired and pushed for time)
  1. Less bread
  1. Log it on mfp even if I've cocked up for accountability
Stepcount · 08/08/2022 10:21

Hi, hoping I can join as I have reached ‘that day’ when you realise enough is enough and you can’t keep putting off addressing something - in this case my weight. I lost 4 st back in 2019 and was beginning to feel like I was getting on top of my weight issues- then Covid hit and the rest you can guess.
I have always been overweight and had relatively poor self control around food. My real challenge will be the evenings when I eat out of boredom or reward for a ‘good’ day.
Hopefully the company of others on here and the satisfaction of seeing the numbers coming down on the scales will keep me on track.
Although I have a lot to lose I know that at 55 and from previous experience I have to be realistic so setting my target as a minimum of 2st by Christmas.
Have a good day/week everyone !

TheBatwoman · 08/08/2022 10:49

Definitely still think that’s a positive @WutheringShites86 , especially if it was a mixed week as you say.

I find meal plans really help. We seldom deviate from ours now, as I think it’s helped us out a lot since the twins arrived.

Julesni77 · 08/08/2022 10:53

Hi @Stepcount lets do this!

SnowyMouse · 08/08/2022 11:05

My weekly weigh in is 12 stone 0.75, that's 2lb loss (8 August).

Julesni77 · 08/08/2022 11:16

@SnowyMouse thats brilliant - I am sure you are well pleased with that!

TheBatwoman · 08/08/2022 11:23

That’s great @SnowyMouse - well done!

Fiftysixthnamechange · 08/08/2022 11:28

I forgot to weigh this morning so I'll do it tomorrow. Eating is going well, getting up early before it gets too hot to workout, doing a mix of dumbell workouts and cardio. Before you all go thinking I'm doing great imbdrinking far too much! There's something about this hot weather that makes it impossible to sit in the garden in the evening without a glass of something cold!

SnowyMouse · 08/08/2022 11:36

Thanks, I am pleased! Well done on your eating @Fiftysixthnamechange !

Transformatio · 08/08/2022 12:35

A gain of 0.4 lbs this week for me (cycle rather than food/drink related I think!).

I'm going to say I started this Christmas challenge when I started losing weight ...so far I've lost 8.2 lbs in 5 weeks (2.2,1.2, 2.6,2.6,-0.4). That is 20.4% of the weight I want to lose to meet my Christmas Target (I think that is a pretty challenging target now but we'll see!).

Well done @SnowyMouse !

Evening are a bit of a challenge @Stepcount - I now make my entire eating window the evening, which helps and I'm trying to get into the habit of having something to keep me busy for blocks of time during that so it's not an endless snack-a-thon. I lost 5 st in 2018 and gained it all back - definitely time to find something that works long term.
