Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

Twins! Wowzers, @TheBatwoman you must need the biscuits more than me!

Yes, the long term goal is the thing and not losing sight of it after a small blip.

TheBatwoman · 03/08/2022 15:47

@WutheringShites86 some days, yes. They are 10 months now and both always on the move, so definitely keep me on my toes! In some way they are my biggest motivation, and in other ways can be one of the greatest obstacles.

WheelofLife · 04/08/2022 08:52

Well done anyone who’s lost anything. I’m just going up and down again. Was half a kilo down two days ago but back up again.

Whats everyone doing for exercise? I’m really enjoying MadFit on YouTube. Even if you only have five minutes to spare there’s some really short ones for unmotivated days.

i think I’ll have to fast for an entire day at the weekend to make som3 serious headway

Julesni77 · 04/08/2022 09:12

@WheelofLife exercise wise I am doing weights 3/4 times a week and walking at least 10k steps a day - trying to increase this to 15k a day but I have been training this way consistently for 2 years and with a PT so I know my fitness levels are improving but weight was steadily increasing! I am morbidly obese and find it so hard to reign back my intake!

Are you sticking to a calorie target (Mine is 2600cals but I am huge and quite active) Got those set by team rh and will see how it goes!

TheBatwoman · 04/08/2022 09:32

@WheelofLife I’m running and doing HIIT workouts. I’ll start weights again once some of the issues I’ve had post-c-section have resolved, but until then the focus is on the dreaded cardio

TheBatwoman · 04/08/2022 09:36

@WheelofLife I’ll have to check out the YouTube stuff. I’ve been using Apple Fitness+ and they’ve been good but there is a monthly cost. They also have shorter ones. I often do a 10min workout followed by a 20min workout once the babies go to bed. Even if I start off planning the shorter one only, once I get into it I usually find I end up doing more.

christmas2022 · 04/08/2022 09:38

@WheelofLife

What is mad fit?

WheelofLife · 04/08/2022 12:03

@Julesni77 I’m not calorie counting, but I’ve cut down on processed carbs, so if we’re having spaghetti bolognaise, I’ll have grated carrots instead of pasta, and a much smaller portion size.

Congratulations on your twins @TheBatwoman . I think it’s amazing you’re managing to fit in exercise at all. You must have your hands full. Bet they’re totally gorgeous tho’ :)

@christmas2022 I can’t post a link on my iPad but if you google MadFit on YouTube it’s a woman who does a huge variety of exercise routines, ranging from 5 minute arm toning to a full session of HIIT.

I looked at a few different ones and found her to be the one who suited me most, though I tried one of her dance routines and her idea of ‘dance’ and my idea of ‘dance’ are completely different 😂

PS my plan is calorie counting, 1000 kcal/day (I'm in a wheelchair).

How are you getting on?

Your calories sound low, I think I'd be starving on that. I'm trying to stick to 1400 per day - that's what Nutracheck has allocated me.

I'm doing ok - I don't lose on 1100 or 1200. I am hungry, but I'm hungry on 1200 too!

Are we doing a specific weigh in day, or is it free choice?

TheBatwoman · 04/08/2022 14:12

Thank you @WheelofLife - I think they are, but then I’m a bit biased!

@SnowyMouse I think a few of us are doing mondays, but I guess you could go with whatever day suits you really.

SnowyMouse · 04/08/2022 14:14

Thanks, Monday sounds good.

Diegofrompennyburn · 04/08/2022 14:18

Oh, let me join you that sounds like a good realistic time frame! I'm off on a weeks dance course next week, so I wont be calorie counting! But after that I get on well with a low carb approach, ensuring I have loads of water, and plenty of walking.

So I'll do a weigh in when I get back (I'm a daily weigher) and set my Christmas target.

SnowyMouse · 04/08/2022 14:22

I weigh daily too, and watch the trend on Happy Scale. But a weekly check in is good I find.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 04/08/2022 14:30

I've done 3 YouTube workouts this week, for anyone interested I really like body project, popular and nourish move love on YouTube. It has to be interesting and not repetitive or I won't do it!

I need to make a list of all the good you tube workouts

And actually start doing them!

hedgehog91 · 06/08/2022 17:35

Love that there are so many of us on this thread with the Christmas goal! You all sound like pros with all of your fitness routines! I’m so rubbish with exercise. But I’m trying to take more walks if that counts 🙈

I’m struggling a bit today, been good all week but today having a chilled out day at home and the food cupboards are proving impossible to resist. But I haven’t gone mad and will finish off with a healthy stir fry dinner :) I’m praying for at least 1lb off this week x

hedgehog91 · 06/08/2022 17:37

@Diegofrompennyburn @SnowyMouse I’m glad I’m not the only daily weigher. People always tell me not to but I can’t help myself. Sometimes I’m really bad and will do it in the AM and PM. I find it keeps me on track.

SnowyMouse · 06/08/2022 17:39

I find it keeps me on track too, @hedgehog91 And thus less likely to comfort eat if I get a gain one day.

TheBatwoman · 06/08/2022 17:41

@hedgehog91 walks definitely count! Sorry to hear you’ve been struggling today but well done for not letting that derail you and finishing off string with a healthy dinner :)

Do you take the lowest weight from the week or just a certain day.

I've always done a certain day but thinking of changing to taking the lowest weight during the week.

Also weigh daily. It can fluctuate a couple of pounds in a day and there is no way that is fat - so I don't think it should be counted if that happens to be the formal weigh day!

Transformatio · 07/08/2022 07:58

It's a tricky one @christmas2022 ! I daily weigh but take my weekly weight loss as where I am on Monday.
This week though I'm having some serious mid-cycle gain! I'm currently 2 lbs heavier than I was on Monday but on Wednesday was showing a 0.4 lb loss. I'll take my weekly weight change as where I am tomorrow though (and this will almost certainly be a gain for the week). I lost 2.6 lbs the previous week, and the one before that doing exactly the same.
As I daily weigh, what I really count though is each time I see a new, lower, number on the scales.

recklessgran · 07/08/2022 09:30

Please can I join you? 40lbs is exactly what I need to lose - I've done it before but put it all back on and more. I did it previously by using the Keto diet which does work for me but I find it tiresome and a bit too restrictive. This time I'm going to try 800 calories and 16:8. To qualify that very low calorie intake, I'm older than most of you at 66 but refuse to retire, have an underactive thyroid for which I am medicated and also take hormone medication for a previous health issue. On top of that, by my own admission I'm very physically lazy - demanding but very interesting desk job, no exercise, have cleaner etc.
Starting today with weight a shameful 14st 8lbs.

I was thinking because we all weigh in on different days, we could post when we’ve weighed in, and then I’ll update the main post every Sunday, and add in any new people then too?

If I’ve missed any weight updates I'm so sorry. Please comment again and I’ll amend it
