Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

Glad things are looking better for you @WheelofLife.

I've been succumbing to temptation a bit too @Stepcount. I'm really struggling to be consistent and I've considered going on maintenance calories for a bit rather than be in this restrict/binge cycle but I'm not sure.

No sign of DDs sleep improving ever and I just can't keep my motivation up on constant sleep deprivation plus busy life 😴

Dashel · 19/11/2022 07:57

@WheelofLife glad your work situation is improving hopefully that should help other areas of your life.

Sorry I have been a bit AWOL, my back is still pretty painful and I can’t exercise still. It has been causing me to get quite down and comfort eat more than I would normally, but not a huge binge. I also went on my work thing, went out for an evening meal with drinks and those two days I have an excuse for the lack of steps the others not so much. It’s cold and dark and I’m feeling so sorry for myself.

I am struggling to kick my own butt. We are having friends round for dinner tonight so will offset with a long walk but I won’t be drinking.

I got on the scales and am 10st 5lb probably more due to muscle loss but it could have been worse. I need to get focused again.

I think winter is really hard for weight loss as you just want warm and stodgy food or at least I do! Maybe more soup is the answer?

@OhFatty you are missed and even if you have fallen off the wagon come back and say hi and join us again!

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 20/11/2022 08:50

Hello everyone! Hope you’re all having a nice weekend? starting to feel pretty chilly here

another snails pace 1lb off here

Dashel · 20/11/2022 09:42

I put on 0.5lb from yesterday so 10st 5.5lb but did 17k steps and had friends around for dinner which was nice. No alcohol but we had pudding,

I am going to get back to posting at least once a day, it gives me a feeling of accountability which I need now. I am going on a 6 mile organised walk this morning and I am going to go spinning in the week, the physio said that this should be ok. I miss my weights.

@Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday 1lb a week is pretty good! It is getting cold here as well 🥶

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 20/11/2022 10:37

Thanks @Dashel takes me to 2.5st in total so I’m happy just need to keep plodding in. I wasn’t sure I’d get anything tbh after a steak and red wine last night.

i do think if I’ve had a late or salty dinner the night before my official weigh in it minimises the loss and I see a bit more the following week

WutheringShites86 · 20/11/2022 12:08

I'm back up to 15st, I'm still half a stone down since the thread started but I can't seem to maintain my progress at the moment.

Well done @Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday and I hope stepping up the exercise goes well @Dashel.

Dashel · 20/11/2022 18:35

@WutheringShites86 I hope you find your mojo soon! I am going with the fake it till I make it strategy!

The walk was really good apparently it was a flat walk😳 I was the youngest at 42 so no excuses for finding it tiring. I found it ok fitness wise but afterwards I was a bit tired. My Fitbit was showing 1078 calories so not too shabby

DH and I agreed that we are going to do longer walks on weekends to get our general fitness levels up and to join in on longer organised walks if they are on locally. We are going to try and get training for some more challenging walks in the Lakes or Snowdon next year

TheBatwoman · 20/11/2022 21:50

Well done on your walk @Dashel and your loss @Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday.

I had a bit of an off week too @WutheringShites86. Try to be kind to yourself and think of the progress so far.

Little Batman ended up in hospital this week. He’s home now thankfully, but it’s been difficult to focus on any kind of diet or exercise. Sometimes life just gets in the way doesn’t it?

Hoping for a more positive week - for everyone 🙂

WutheringShites86 · 21/11/2022 10:03

Oh dear @TheBatwoman, I hope your LO is OK now. Yes, life does get in the way sometimes and I certainly wouldn't have been thinking about dieting if my DD was in hospital either.

TheBatwoman · 21/11/2022 16:26

He’s alright thanks @WutheringShites86 - still feeling very sorry for himself and very tired but breathing is much better thankfully 🙂 hope all okay with you

Dashel · 21/11/2022 20:23

@TheBatwoman I hope your DS is back to his normal self soon! That must have been really hard for you all.

My weight was the same this morning but I’m doing better on my steps, I’m currently at 14k. My back is really sore so didn’t risk spinning but will see how it is tomorrow. I’m back to my walking workouts but doing them carefully 😔

Stepcount · 22/11/2022 06:53

Morning. Unfortunately I seem to be hanging onto the dieting wagon by the tips of my fingers. I’m in a strange limbo of not really trying but not being too bad either. I think I just haven’t got the drive at the moment to be going all out for the loss. I am trying not to slip back into too many bad habits but the need for warm and filling food is strong. If I can maintain the loss I have achieved so far and no regain this side of Christmas I will be happy and then tackle the next chunk in the new year. Well done to everyone hanging on in there, especially those of you still being super active!

WutheringShites86 · 22/11/2022 21:11

I know the exact feeling @Stepcount! I've had a much better start to the week so far though with a decent calorie deficit. One day at a time!

Dashel · 22/11/2022 21:32

@Stepcount I am struggling too. DH dragged me out for an evening walk this evening and I really didn’t want to go. It was dark and cold and horrible.

I need to crack on with this but it’s so hard at this time of year and my back hurts so much and it’s so restrictive what I can do and for me the diet and exercise goes hand in hand.

Have you thought about making some soup? I have been having my hot chocolate.

I am at 14k steps again which has been a challenge!

@WutheringShites86 well done on the good deficit.

I might have a Google for success tips on winter diets 🤓

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 26/11/2022 11:26

Morning everybody! @TheBatwoman how is wee Batman now? Hope everyone’s had a good week?

I’m down 1.5lbs to 13st 2 this week but period just started and the snacks are calling already

4 weeks til Christmas so I’m still hoping for another 4lbs but I’ll take 3!

WutheringShites86 · 26/11/2022 16:10

Well done @Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday. I haven't weighed yet but I know I've had a better week than I have for a while. Got a feeling it might not show on the scales yet because I've got a bit of pms bloating but that's ok

Stepcount · 27/11/2022 08:50

Morning. I have consumed chocolate every day for the past couple of weeks. It’s proven to be a time of little self control. I have managed to keep other parts of my diet more restrained and yesterday ( by a small amount) I was the lightest I have been since starting on this thread in August. It’s a pre Christmas miracle. So I am going to try to rein in the chocolate consumption and push for a couple more lbs in the next few weeks, 4 to be exact 🎄🤶- so I can have a bit of a buffer going into Christmas and New year festivities. Never say never because I am the perpetual yo-yo dieter but at the moment I still seem to be in a good place with things- minus the chocolate 🍫 habit 🤫. Hope everyone is feeling positive and well done to those of you keeping on keeping on 👍💪🏻

Dashel · 27/11/2022 10:08

Good morning,

@Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday congratulations on your loss that’s amazing especially at the moment.

@WutheringShites86 Hopefully the scales will show in a few days!

@Stepcount congrats on your Christmas miracle!

I had an ok week I till yesterday, I tried a bit of light DIY and the pain was something else. Unfortunately it wasn’t a job that could be left once started. So I comfort ate quite badly and couldn’t go out to see friends last night.

This morning I’m 10st 7 so put on two pounds hopefully at least 1lb of that will be gone tomorrow but I’m really struggling.

I booked another holiday for next year this morning so I have the motivation, I’m just in pain, can’t exercise and it’s so dark and cold. Sleeping is hard at the moment and that just makes me hungry.

WutheringShites86 · 27/11/2022 13:15

Well done @Stepcount, if a little bit of what you fancy is still giving results I wouldn't be too hard on yourself.

I'm sorry you've been struggling @Dashel, it sounds like you need more rest to recover.

I'm 14st12lbs today so 2lbs down and pleased with that.

Stepcount · 27/11/2022 14:22

@Dashel sorry to hear that you are in a lot of discomfort. That must be so distracting and draining. Maybe just take a bit of pressure off yourself, for a few days at least.
well done @WutheringShites86 that’s a great loss and lovely to see a new number in the stone marker.
Thank you both as well for the encouragement. I’m going to try to up the veg and protein and ease off carbs and specifically the chocolate- thankfully it’s mostly gone now 🤐

SnowyMouse · 27/11/2022 15:10

Today I weighed in at 11 stone 1.5, which is a loss of 2.5 lbs, 15.25 lb loss overall (27 Nov).

WutheringShites86 · 27/11/2022 20:02

That's brilliant @SnowyMouse 👏

SnowyMouse · 27/11/2022 20:04

Thanks @WutheringShites86 , not sure if I'll hit my Christmas goal of 20 lbs.

Dashel · 28/11/2022 08:48

@WutheringShites86 fab news to be in the next stone and 2lbs is great!

@Stepcount have you looked into alternative uses of chocolate like chocolate protein powder and low calorie hot chocolate or high protein chocolate milk? That’s how I get my fix

@SnowyMouse thats a fabulous loss congratulations

@OhFatty how are you? I hope you are ready to come back soon x

I think my back is not going to heal quickly unfortunately. I’m not hopeful of this side of Christmas tbh.

I have managed to loose one of my two pound gains so back to 10st 6lb. Went for a walk in the morning with DH it was still dark. I have got to at least try to get my steps in.

Thank you all for your good wishes, it’s just so hard as exercise makes me happy and I’m completely the opposite and can’t sleep properly. I’m going to get some sleeping tablets today. DH is also away for two nights this week so that is going to be really hard to keep on track.

Dashel · 29/11/2022 08:45

Good morning,

I finished on 17k steps yesterday and I also tried to get back on my spin bike. I did a gentle 10 minutes holding the handlebars tightly so as not to move my back too much. I’m going to try and do that more, the physio said it would be ok.

Im also back down to 10st 5.9lb again so I’m happier about that. I also did an early morning walk and have gone back to my usual protein powder overnight oats.

Hopefully it will be a start to get myself back on track. I really never thought I would get below 10st 7 so I really don’t want to loose my progress.
