Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into July! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! It’s going to be a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Thought the thread was quiet! I hadn't joined this one 🤣🤣

fallfallfall · 04/07/2022 20:57

@TheRealHousewife you pay via your taxes but not at a hospital/clinic or dr's office. some procedures need to be paid for privately such as my breast reduction or dental implants.
once seen by a dr, or sometimes via self referral there are support programs that are free (such as mental health/addiction).
as a retired nurse mostly working in a hospital setting only rarely did people have to pay (crutches need to be paid for, fiberglass casts vs plaster for example). out of country injuries were almost always covered by travel insurance via social service or accounting departments. senior care is NOT covered, so even home support has a fee based on your income, same with long term care facilities all based on your reported annual income.
canadian taxes are high compared to the usa for example and even once their medical insurance costs are added our taxes are higher so we pay a lot for our "free" service. medications are not covered nor is dental care (although most employers offer insurance to cover a percentage 70% is typical).
there is a certain tax threshold at which point people don't pay and it's universal across the country at any facility.
it's managed care.

Welcome @HouseofHolbein … better late than never 🤣🤪

@fallfallfall its fascinating how different countries do things differently.

@fallfallfall do you know much about cholesterol levels? I know nurses can be in different specialism so I fully understand if not your area of expertise.

OP posts:
fallfallfall · 05/07/2022 00:26

@TheRealHousewife i know very little: there is a genetic component so some people always and forever have high cholesterol. diet has very little effect and there are two types of cholesterol and the ratio of one to another is important.
that my dear is all that i know.

SanFranBear · 05/07/2022 07:35

Phew - this thread is moving quick this month! Welcome even more new peeps - quite a gang going on now!

I was at a work even yesterday which meant lunch on the go and lots of snacks and chocolate... I made a fairly healthy lunch choice and then avoided all other snacks but got home and had two slices of pizza and a rice crispy cake. Not the worst but after my very drunken weekend, had wanted to have a lower calorie start to the weekend... ah well, nothing I cab do now - and it was delicious!

I like you including your exercise on your daily diary, RealHousewife.. I should probably up mine to a daily goal too but life seems very busy at the moment. I'm not even going to be able to have my WoW this week as I'm out at the theatre (so not overly gutted!) but I feel the need to do something more. Leslie Sansome sounds familiar to me so might Google her and do something later...?

fallfall - that all sounds quite complicated but sounds like you navigate it all well. I think I need to see my GP as I've developed a recurring pain in my lower right side back.. apparently, being over 40 and female with significant weight loss can lead you to a higher risk of kidney and gall stones. I obviously have no idea if that's what it is but it's persistent and in a really specific place.. I also wonder if peri-menopause related as it does ease around my period 🤔Guess that's why I need to see my GP (although access is still quite tricky round here!)

Hope everyone has a lovely day - the sun is shining down here which always puts me in a good state of mind!

TheRealHousewife · 05/07/2022 08:02

Good Morning :)

@SanFranBear I find setting my intentions the day before really useful and it acts as reminder. On the issue of pizza, sometimes we need the carby, salty, cheesy hit and it is good for the soul ;)

Thank you @fallfallfall My ratio is not so bad as my 'good' cholesterol is high. The nurse said she could tell I was eating a good diet by that number.

Menu
Meal 1 - Salmon & Brocolli frittata, salad and home grown cucumber :)
Meal 2 - Chicken curry and wild rice. Fresh fruit salad and Greek yoghurt.

Tea, black coffee, water.

Exercise
Part 1 - Walking vid.
Part 2 - 15 minute Yoga

Enjoy you day, drink your water and whatever you do make it count!

I'm re-joining!

Cancelled the dietician/nutritionist until I know more re my finances/job.

So far for breakfast having:

30g Special K with 75g blueberries and covering of skimmed milk

lunch today and yday: quarter of Higgidy spinach and nut pie, 171 cals, plus half or quarter boiled potato or rice plus small salad (cucumber/tomatoes/lettuce)

snacks: 3-4 dates, 1 peach, 2 apricots

Dinner: yday was Turkish chicken pilau, small portion with aubergine, peppers etc and small slice of garlic bread

lots of water, 2 green teas, 1-2 camomile teas. lots more water but to make more interesting adding Robinsons orange/tropical cordial

Yesterday had orange Capri sun but so hot and needed it for journey home!

Underactive thyroid tips?

Plantar fasciitis flared up again but did 30 mins Body Project Cardio Sunday and then 15-20 min similar Body Project Sunday too.

Hope everyone else is doing well! Any news to share?

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 05/07/2022 11:05

Oh, I'm probably 11 stone 4-5 lbs but no electronic scale (must get) and 5 ft 4.5.

ImALittlePea · 05/07/2022 12:21

Today's meals:

Lunch - 2 egg omelette with 25g cheese and side salad (which took up half the plate) with a drizzle of homemade balsamic vinaigrette.
Dinner - homemade veggie curry and rice. Greek yoghurt with pomegranate.

Woke up feeling a bit lethargic today, and can feel the urge to dive into the crisp basket or bread bin building. I'm hoping the larger lunch will help, but I tend to me hungrier if I eat more. We shall see!

Exercise... Does following a 20mo toddler around at play group/gym count?! 😂

Slightlystressedbride · 05/07/2022 13:12

@AvocadoSoup oh wow! You will only get married once (hopefully! Ha!) so definitely make sure it's right for you, if that means postponing then do it.

I tried one some dresses at the weekend and really need to lose that stone by September, it's not even so much about how I look it's how I feel when I'm that weight (got down there 3 years ago unfortunately put it back on later for various reasons). So I really need this thread for accountability especially as we're away in the UK later this week for a short holiday and I have a huge tendency to just go "screw it" and eat ALL of the food...

Don't dig into the crisps!

I stupidly put on almost half a stone by gorging on whole tubs of Pringles (I don't even like them that much!) and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups (but all 3 of them!).

Definitely mindless eating but so easy to do.

I do have some freebie Co Op tiny chocolate eggs that I allow myself one of for an occasional treat if I really fancy chocolate, but trying not to do that!

TheRealHousewife · 05/07/2022 13:47

Afternoon Ladies 🙂

@TryingAgain2022 Every bit helps. I also monitor stair climbs too but cant do too many due to back issues. Fingers crossed you bust your 3K step count Star

Welcome back @GonnaGetGoingReturns Is your thyroid medicated? The only tips I have is not to overeat (easier said than done I know) as our metabolisms are up against it. Also try to eat fresh unprocessed foods/anti-inflammatory foods. Sorry I don't have more advice.

@ImALittlePea step away from the crisps! No seriously if you really want them have them but thoroughly enjoy them without guilt and remorse.

fallfallfall · 05/07/2022 17:07

hello everyone, encouraging morning weigh in 153.9 and i can envision 150!
@Slightlystressedbride i love love love wedding dresses and frequently spend hours upon hours looking at designs and construction.
@ImALittlePea try and stay strong and avoid the crisps and bread, sending you energy and healthy vibes.
@TryingAgain2022 , those are nice daily goals.
b: oatmeal with my stewed fruit.
l: halloumi on steamed greens (i have been given some lovely kale from the neighbor and my swiss chard is doing well)
d: spaghetti sauce (i'll add in some extra ground beef for added protein) on zuchinni noodles OR spaghetti squash??

ImALittlePea · 05/07/2022 17:18

Pleased to report I stayed strong! Not a single bite of naan bread with curry either, despite making some for DH and kids 😁 I remembered that it's DS's sports day tomorrow which involves a family picnic so I'm likely to veer off course then. Taking plenty of fruit, veggie sticks and fizzy water to keep me as on track as possible though.

Benjispruce4 · 05/07/2022 17:23

Hi everyone. Don’t want to speak too soon but feeling extra svelte last few days, like I can feel it a loss on my hips and stomach area. I deliberately haven’t weighed last few days but was still 9st 9 after graduation celebrations so I’m hoping a bit more may have been shaved off. Will see tomorrow.
B: half a bagel toasted with half an avocado mashed
L: chicken salad with sauerkraut , apple, 2 tiny clementines
D- prawn wrap.

Benjispruce4 · 05/07/2022 17:24

@fallfallfall you seem to be well in ‘the zone’ lately. Well done!

fallfallfall · 05/07/2022 17:29

@Benjispruce4 a real love hate relationship with calorie counting. however i'm really liking the new app that i'm using (cronometer)
i signed up for the Galveston Diet online course yesterday.
and of course decent weather helps.

123ROLO · 05/07/2022 18:49

Hello everyone.

I had a bit of an indulgent weekend but back on track, however I'm away Thursday to Sun on a hen do so may be a struggle to stay healthy there.

Not yet weighed myself, my leggings feel looser. I bought some size 12 clothes from fat face and they all fit well, though fat face is pretty generous.

BlueSilver23 · 05/07/2022 19:05

Do people here generally weigh often? I had a good run back in January and stuck to exercising for an hour every day and eating approx 1200 cal a day etc for about a month but when I was weighing the scales weren’t showing very much movement at all even if clothes etc felt looser and I just sort of gave up as the scales were so demoralizing. I do have a sneaky suspicion that the scales weren’t that great as they were very old electronic ones that gave up the ghost earlier this year so may have not been that reliable anyway.

So ive decided not to weigh myself and just stick to low calories and some decent exercise everyday. At the very least I’ll hopefully get into good habits and get healthier anyway. Anyone tried this approach? I’ve stuck to exercising on treadmill/bike for an hour nearly everyday for two weeks and have rigidly stuck to 1200 cals or less (excepting a slip with a Burger King last week 🤣)

SanFranBear · 05/07/2022 19:20

I weigh just once a week (only a Friday), BlueSilver. I could see me getting very obsessed otherwise and also means if I have a couple of off plan days, I have time to try and rectify it.. I need that accountability though but it's not for everyone!

Agree with Benji, fallfall - you've been on it in recent weeks - well done! I feel a bit off it at the moment - wanting rubbish foods and whilst still sticking to my self-imposed limits, it's a bit of a struggle. But got to keep at it as would like to lose more and if I take my eye of the ball, I know I'll not get it back!

All of which has made me plan in a WoW tomorrow after all. I'm not meeting my friend for pre-theatre food until early evening so think I can get a quick 10k walk in beforehand. I've found a decent route along the River Avon so should be flat and beautiful. I'll also be able to eat some exercise calories back and have a good appetite before we eat - having Mexican which is my favourite but not the healthiest!

fallfallfall · 05/07/2022 19:33

@BlueSilver23 , I’ve not had any success using that same technique. Obviously my 1200 became closer to the amount needed to gain. Over a few months 8 or so I’d put on 20+ lbs. slowly but surely all while still fitting in my clothing.
I sadly need to weigh daily.

Benjispruce4 · 06/07/2022 07:07
