☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I have full fat @ImALittlePea as I find it more satisfying but I only have 1 tbsp serving.

fallfallfall · 06/06/2022 17:42

BC is British Columbia Canada, hence why my posting is out of sync occasionally, 8 hr time difference.
@ImALittlePea , I’m into low processed. So it’s full fat Greek for me. I measure out 200 calories worth and serve with chia seeds and fruit for a 250 calorie breakfast or lunch.
currently mixing 1/4 cup, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp honey with various spices or seasoning salt as a salad dressing (serves 4, doesn’t go runny).

ImALittlePea · 06/06/2022 17:44

I've got it in my head from somewhere that full fat is better for you overall, but I'm not sure where that came from or if it's correct. I have small pots of full fat but was stood at the supermarket fridge wondering whether the 10% or 0% versions were better.

SingaporeSlinky · 06/06/2022 17:44

@ImALittlePea I was always told not to buy the low-fat anything, because they just replace the fat with extra sugars. BUT I don’t think that’s always the case, so you really need to check the labels. My friend’s DH is a dietician and I sent him photos of Waitrose no1 and Tesco finest full fat and low fat greek yoghurts and he was actually surprised that the low fat ones were very high in protein - about 9% from memory and very minimal differences on sugars. But the low fat versions were much lower in calories, so on balance, he told me to go with the low fat versions.

milkfromthesleepycow · 06/06/2022 17:56

That's interesting. I'd always gone for full fat as I thought it would generally be higher in protein (and I think higher fat content is meant to be more satisfying? I know that's the wrong word but I can't remember how to spell the right one!)

Will do some more label examining next time!

CrimsonAlligator · 06/06/2022 18:42

If I had to choose between full fat and no fat Greek yoghurt, I’d opt for Skyr. Skyr is so weird, but I’m a big fan of the Spartan experience it provides 😂

Thanks for sharing that recipe @Benjispruce4 . I’ll give it a go.

Benjispruce4 · 06/06/2022 18:44

Yeah low fat is usually lower in calories when it comes to natural yoghurt. I prefer the taste and texture of full fat as some are thinner but I do enjoy Fahe Total 0%. If you need a low fat diet for health reasons I guess that’s the way to go. NHS healthy eating advice suggests low fat dairy too.
AH British Columbia @fallfallfall I guessed you were North American when you said Mom. 😊

TheRealHousewife · 06/06/2022 18:49

ImALittlePea · 06/06/2022 17:10

Bit random I know, but... What are people's thoughts on full fat vs low fat yoghurt? Specifically, greek yogurt?

I’m a full fat girl myself, I just have a measured portion. In some products the fat is replaced by sugars which are worse for you overall.

The salad dressing recipe you posted @fallfallfall sounds quite tasty 😋

OP posts:
Benjispruce4 · 06/06/2022 19:03

Yes it does. I stir a tsp of mint sauce (the one for roast lamb) ) into thick yoghurt for use on salads or any Mediterranean style food.

fallfallfall · 06/06/2022 19:07

@TheRealHousewife , a variation on this
www.food.com/recipe/indian-cucumber-salad-172618
like I mentioned ff greek, honey vs sugar, cumin was perfect with the tandoori chicken, mint was a must!
the consistency was very nice so I changed up the spices for yesterday’s potato salad (hence avoiding mayonnaise).

Benjispruce4 · 06/06/2022 19:13

Was just about to say, grated cucumber makes a lovely refreshing addition on Indian spiced food and kebabs etc.

TheRealHousewife · 06/06/2022 19:32

Thank you @fallfallfall 🙏 that’s kind of you!

Thanks for all the input - and the meal inspo!

ButteryNuts · 06/06/2022 20:37

I always go for full fat as I also read it's better, but the sugar and protein content being similar is interesting! I'll compare next time I go.

After sticking to my diet all bank holiday I've ended up getting some wine because my guilty pleasure love island is on tonight Blush And i've been bored all day wanting to stuff my face but have resisted!

Hopefully not too much damage for Wednesday!

MrsT777 · 06/06/2022 20:45

Thank you @SingaporeSlinky @CrimsonAlligator @TheRealHousewife for your replies.

I think we need to look at this from @LightningStar point of view. She actually asked if anyone minded her discussing her issues with her daughter. NOT ONE person said anything. This was the time it should of been brought up.

When the random poster mentioned it, then it was brought up. Being devils advocate how must have that been for @LightningStar She viewed you as friends. The comment from the random person wasn’t very nice then out of the blue it’s mentioned by other people. How would you feel if that was you?

I’ve seen posts saying @LightningStar stay and continue to post about weight loss. Yet you can talk about what you want. Is that fair? Really?

Benjispruce4 · 06/06/2022 20:50

@MrsT777 I think you can see most people have supported @LightningStar either on the thread or privately. I think enough has been said I’m not sure why you are going over old ground when you haven’t commented before. .

MrsT777 · 06/06/2022 21:03

Thank you @Benjispruce4 for your reply. Hardly old ground when it’s only just happened! I appreciate it’s easier to ignore and move on than it is to deal with the situation...

SingaporeSlinky · 06/06/2022 21:09

@MrsT777 why don’t you let Lightning speak for herself now? I very much doubt she saw me as a ‘friend’ I am just a very casual poster. I have also explained why I didn’t give my opinion the first time it was raised, and then why I did the second time. Talking about ‘what we want’ when it’s mostly about food/weight/exercise and just occasional personal stuff mixed in, is hardly the same as repeatedly discussing triggering issues. But again, I’ve explained several times. Surely you can see the difference?

Benjispruce4 · 06/06/2022 21:10

@MrsT777 Im not sure what your personal interest is. I have given my support to @LightningStar whilst acknowledgment that I found some of the subject matter challenging and not easy to read and walk away from , yet feeling woefully ill equipped to reply to. I have tried to gently suggest that professional support or a thread in another area where readers know what they might come across, could be more useful BUT I also do not want anyone who is feeling that down to feel they have no space to turn. I think that’s fair. The random poster was called out and @LightningStar waa supported and asked to continue on the thread. What she chooses to do is entirely her decision

CrimsonAlligator · 06/06/2022 21:58

@MrsT777if you go back through the thread (page 6) you will see that it wasn’t “the random person” who started the discussion, it was me posting my message in response to @Benjispruce4

I posted that message because the previous day I had come onto this thread and felt that I wasn’t able to post what I wanted to post. I tried to offer support, which was ignored. I was, to be honest, ready to leave the thread at that point, but when I came back on Sunday to post a message to say I was off, I noticed how few of the new people who’d joined the thread at the start of the month had posted since LightningStar’s update. It was that, plus the realisation that the same thing happens every single month, which made me decide to say something.

I believe I did so in a respectful, sensitive manner. I don’t like the insinuation that we’re a bunch of backstabbers. If you’ve been following this thread for a while you must be able to see how much people have tried to help and that no-one who regularly posts on this thread has suggested that she leaves this thread. That was her own decision, which she made way before most of those that posted yesterday had had a chance to respond.

MrsT777 · 06/06/2022 22:04

I agree @Benjispruce4 it is entirely @LightningStar decision of what she wants to do. Actually you were the only person to call the random poster out. Do you honestly see her returning after this?

As for being a very casual poster @SingaporeSlinky you had a lot to say on the matter!!!

Benjispruce4 · 06/06/2022 22:07

No I wasn’t @MrsT777!
Ok I’m off to bed.

SingaporeSlinky · 06/06/2022 22:13

@MrsT777 at least I was already a known poster, however infrequent. You’ve come out of the shadows suddenly to get very involved and criticise others. At least get your facts straight.

MrsT777 · 06/06/2022 22:25

My facts are straight @SingaporeSlinky you were the most vocal!
