☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

A sombre thread to wake up to today 🙁

For what it's worth, I'm one of the posters who have said I'm happy for @LightningStar to continue posting, and I did mean it. But then, I'm an open book myself, I probably add too much personal context to the discussion (not just here, but in daily general life too).

@TheRealHousewife I'm so saddened that you feel underappreciated and want to step away. I've only been on the threads since January but your warmth and kindness towards all of us has always shone through. It must be a lot to keep weaving all the strands and posters together, but you are so appreciated for the effort you put in.

Whatever both of you decide, I totally respect. I'd like for the threads to continue somehow - they've really kept me accountable while I've been trying to lose - but I certainly don't have the time to do so myself.

On the weight loss front - I'm (hoping to!) hit the reset button today. Goodness knows I need to. Cup-a-soup and veggies for lunch, and I think an asparagus and pea risotto for dinner. And LOTS OF WATER!

ImALittlePea · 06/06/2022 07:32

Forgot to add - happy new week, and have a good day everyone ❤️

Benjispruce4 · 06/06/2022 07:40

Morning @ImALittlePea im back to work today as finally tested negative yesterday. So I’ll be posting less( no need to cheer) as I get to live a real life not a half life of isolation. Had a sneak weigh and still maintaining exactly, down to the 1/4 lb. I suppose that’s a win with being home all week.
Anyway, must dash. New week, new start everyone! 😊

SingaporeSlinky · 06/06/2022 08:17

@LightningStar I’ve definitely read about each of those issues I mentioned at various times on here. Didn’t you have a friend whose husband had been hitting her? I’m sure I’ve gone to post and read something about DA. In any case, it isn’t exactly the thread going ‘woke’ and no one being allowed to say anything for fear of upsetting others. But those topics are given a trigger warning for a reason, and this forum isn’t where you’d expect to find them. I understand you’re feeling defensive, but as @Benjispruce4 said, just because you aren’t aware of others situations, doesn’t mean they haven’t or aren’t still going through things, and talk of suicide and DA in particular can be very upsetting to read.

Anyway, I’ve said my opinion and I hope the thread can move on.

Good luck for the fresh week everyone.

SW 10st 7
CW 9st 5
TW 8st 12

I’m off to the gym.

ImALittlePea · 06/06/2022 08:17

Glad you're well enough to go back to work @Benjispruce4 and that's a fab result after a week of isolation! Did you find yourself managing ok with it? We had to isolate at the start of April and it drove me round the bend, which I found interesting as we shielded for 11 weeks at the start of Covid and coped fine with that?!

I'm not even acknowledging that my scales exist until Friday 😬😂 and even then I'll be fully expecting a gain. Arrgggg! Reset reset reset!

TheRealHousewife · 06/06/2022 08:19

Good Morning

Great news you’ve tested negative @Benjispruce4 Are you back to being 100%? 1/4lb down is definitely a win 👍😊 Well done on not falling into the biscuit barrel/ice cream tub (or whatever your weakness is) whilst at home!

@ImALittlePea Im another one pressing the re-set today. Not logged/weighed food during Jubilee. I’ve not gone mad but definitely can feel the effects of sugar/carbs/alcohol. My body really doesn’t like these things!

Normal service will resume for June and then see about July nearer the time 😬 Sorry for the wobble.

Menu
Meal 1 - Red pepper & grated mozzarella omelette.
Meal 2 - Stir fry of whatever is left in the fridge.
Tea, coffee, water.

I'm afraid I have definitely gone 'in for a penny, in for a pound' on all things I shouldn't have over the last few days 🤷‍♀️ I do like the suggestion upthread (sorry I can't remember who posted it) that maybe Jubilee calories are free?! I can dream, eh 😂

Don't you apologise @TheRealHousewife there isn't any obligation on you to keep creating and maintaining these threads. You most certainly are very much appreciated, but no-one would blame you for wanting to step back.

CrimsonAlligator · 06/06/2022 08:50

It was me who came up with free Jubilee calories @ImALittlePea and weirdly my scales agree. I’m still a pound down from last week, in spite of throwing caution to the wind. Weightloss is flipping weird!

I’m not surprised you had a little wobble @TheRealHousewife . When you posted yesterday, I asked myself the question “could I do what TheRealHousewife does” and concluded may be for a few weeks, but for three years?! Absolutely not! Respect ✊ If you ever want a break for a month or so, just let us know. I’m sure we can just about manage that.

ButteryNuts · 06/06/2022 09:12

Morning everyone.

I've somehow managed to stick to my diet plan over the bank holiday weekend (excluding a single vodka & diet lemonade) so Im super proud of myself about that - I never stick to anything! A little bit gutted to now know Jubilee calories don't count anyway Grin

I've been having a few cheeky weigh ins and i'm heading in the right direction so should have a good result in my first week weigh in.

ImALittlePea · 06/06/2022 09:18

That's a great start @ButteryNuts fingers crossed for your first proper weigh in.

It is really weird isn't is @CrimsonAlligator and it messes with your mind because it doesn't go the way you expect, which causes you to make choices you otherwise wouldn't.

SingaporeSlinky · 05/06/2022 21:57

@TheRealHousewife I think you posted something a while back about possibly ending this thread, but then had the comment deleted. So I would say, if you want to stop, for whatever reason, then absolutely do. I think one of the reasons your threads are popular, is because you do post so often, and are very good at replying to almost every comment, tagging everyone and generally being upbeat and positive all the time. I’m sure it is a thankless task, but feel free to just post less often if you wish, and don’t feel you have to reply individually to everyone, maybe just join in the chat when you have time, like everyone else does. I’m sure it takes up a lot of your time.

Regarding LightningStar posts, I do feel you need a lot of support, and if these threads help, like others have said, I wouldn’t want you to feel you have nowhere to vent. Having said that, a while back, you did ask everyone to be honest about if they’d rather you didn’t post about the heavy issues you’ve had recently. A few commented that they didn’t mind, but I suspect others that would rather you didn’t, didn’t feel comfortable saying so, myself included. Partly because you have been on the threads far longer than me, so who am I to try and dictate who can or can’t discuss what. But I did also notice a few posters suggested starting your own separate thread, and while you said you did, I assume it wasn’t in the weight loss forum, for obvious reasons, and it clearly got derailed and then deleted. It’s been suggested again more recently. Could you maybe start one in this forum, but with a title to make it clear what it’s about, and then anyone on this thread who is happy to chat, can join you on it? Being honest, I do feel this thread needs a trigger warning sometimes. I’ve come on to post sometimes and read back and found posts about domestic abuse, suicide, self harm, child abuse etc. As others have said, it’s then very awkward to follow that, because you’re either ignoring it, and perhaps coming across as uncaring, or having to comment on it, which is not what this thread is about. I ended up starting my own thread, because I didn’t want to post ‘good morning, I’ve lost a pound today and just been to the gym’ when the post immediately before mine is someone saying they’re in tears asking for a hand hold. I really do sympathise, but those topics really go way beyond a bit of daily chat.

I realise I’ve only been a part of these threads since January and I haven’t posted at all on the June one yet, but I do read occasionally so just giving my opinion since it’s being raised again.

Hello ladies ( I don’t think there are any men in the group!)

I am a regular reader of the group ~ however this is the first time posting. I find this the best thread regarding weight loss and life. As someone mentioned life issues are heavily entwined with weight loss.

I am at a loss as to why a view of a random poster has derailed the thread so much? They haven’t even had the common courtesy to come back and comment further.

I felt that I had to comment as I feel that @LightningStar has been getting a bit of a hard time over this.

@SingaporeSlinky you mentioned that @LightningStar should start a new thread if she wants to discuss her daughters issues. I’m going to be devils advocate here both @TheRealHousewife and @HouseofHolbein have discussed similar issues about their past and daughters lives why haven’t you asked them to start new threads too? I appreciate they don’t post as much about these issues but they have been discussed before. It doesn’t seem fair to me. You could also say if you don’t like reading what is posted to not read and continue with your own thread.

I think it is a real shame if one comment from a random poster alienates the regular people from posting. I hope you read this @LightningStar and continue to post 💐

SingaporeSlinky · 06/06/2022 13:19

@MrsT777 I don’t really want to keep going over this, but since you’ve tagged me. Yes both of those posters have posted similar, but only briefly, and I believe in support of Lightning, not randomly. I wasn’t the first to suggest she start her own thread, I’m just echoing it, because unfortunately there are almost daily updates, and the triggering nature of the posts can derail the weight loss posts.

As I think I explained in earlier posts, when Lightning asked if she should stop posting the heavy personal content, I didn’t want to speak up at the time because it’s not my thread, but since it’s been raised again, I thought I would put across my view. The Op has said she finds it triggering at times. At the end of the day, anyone is pretty much free to say what they want, in whichever thread or forum they like, it was just my two pennies worth, and I will carry on with my thread until this one calms down.

CrimsonAlligator · 06/06/2022 13:27

@MrsT777 there’s no rule against sharing person stuff whatsoever, but I think it can become an issue if 1) what is shared is triggering for others and 2) people feel uncomfortable sharing information relating to what I think we can still legitimately consider to be the main purpose of this thread, which is weightloss.

You are right that many of us have shared personal information on this thread, myself included. But what @TheRealHousewife and @HouseofHolbein (and others) have shared has never made me feel either of those things. There’s not because what they shared isn’t serious enough. It’s because of the way it’s been shared.

You say that you think LightingStar has been getting a hard time. I disagree. I’ve spent more than a year trying to provide support and all that I and others have said over the last few days is that the situation on this thread affects us too. Apart from one individual, no one has tried to shut the conversation down. In fact many of us have tried to encourage LightingStar to stay.

I don’t know how long you’ve been following this thread for, but this has been going on for more than a year. I absolutely think I have every right to try and start a conversation about that.

TheRealHousewife · 06/06/2022 14:34

Hi @MrsT777 I wish to echo what both @CrimsonAlligator @SingaporeSlinky have written. I’ll not add anything other than everyone has asked @LightningStar to stay including me.

Back to the thread topic 😊 @ButteryNuts great to read you’ve not suffered Jubilee gain! @ImALittlePea I also like to think there are no calories in Celebration treats 😬 Monday is a great day for a reset 👍

Benjispruce4 · 06/06/2022 16:14

Afternoon everyone. I’m about 98%!@TheRealHousewife thanks.
B- 30g oats made with water with a tbsp Greek yoghurt and some berry compote I made from frozen berries (no sugar)
L- 3 bean salad with hummus, apple
D- will be spaghetti bolognaise made with green lentils and using wholewheat spaghetti.

Benjispruce4 · 06/06/2022 16:16

Oh and I didn’t lose 1/4 lb. That was badly written by me. I’m the same weight exactly, down to the same 1/4lb so 136.26lbs and it hasn’t budged even 0.01 in 2 weeks!

TheRealHousewife · 06/06/2022 16:28

@Benjispruce4 That is amazing! My weight fluctuates second to second never mind every 2 weeks 😂

OP posts:
CrimsonAlligator · 06/06/2022 16:41

Do you have a recipe for that spaghetti Bolognese with green lentils @Benjispruce4 ? All my attempts to date to mix lentils with tomato based sauces have been a bit bland to say the least, but I’d like to give it another try.

milkfromthesleepycow · 06/06/2022 16:46

I have eaten so much over half term I'm not sure why I'm posting on a weight loss thread! Hoping the theory that jubilee calories don't count is accurate!!

Bit better today
Black coffee until 1pm
L: roast chicken breast with mushroom sauce, veg and an apple
Dinner plan - tuna, roast squash and green beans

Need to drag my arse out for a 25min run now. It looks warm outside and I'm suspicious I'm not going to enjoy it!

milkfromthesleepycow · 06/06/2022 16:46

And we'll done to @Benjispruce4 and others who have maintained!

Benjispruce4 · 06/06/2022 16:50

Hi @CrimsonAlligator i don’t have a recipe. I fry onion, garlic, celery and carrot in a little olive oil until softened, add about half a mug of dried green lentils OR a tin of green lentils, a tin of tomatoes, purée, tbsp balsamic vinegar, herbs, glass of red wine(optional) and a veg stock cube with refilled tin of water and a bay leaf. Simmer away as usual. Adjust liquids by sight. This serves 4. First made it when Dd turns vegetarian and everyone else loved it too. It’s very cheap to use dried lentils and the green hold their shape better than red. I use tins if short on time as the dried can take a while to soften.

Ooh like the look of this! One of my daughters is veggie and I try to make some meals we can all share. This might be one 👍 thank you

Bonjour from BC :)
down 4.8 and now 160.3 (which of course is way up from where i was and need to be).
but that's that and i need to stay the course with my food choices.
still zero exercise just day to day putzing about so lucky if 6000 steps.
i have company coming tomorrow for 3 days. my friend is seriously low carb, so that makes for an easy visit calorie wise. and we're all non drinkers so no issue with liquid calories either.
undoubtably she will get me out more a we tour the neighborhood and solve all the worlds problems (supreme leader style) and weed the garden.
garden! i've already been enjoying fresh rhubarb, mint and swiss chard. plan on squeezing in another row of carrots. wax beans have begun to break ground.
b: 1 slice buttered toast, 1 boiled egg, 1/4 avocado and 1/2 small banana.

Benjispruce4 · 06/06/2022 17:03

This is very similar but I’ve never put walnuts in it!
Where is BC @fallfallfall ?

ImALittlePea · 06/06/2022 17:10

Bit random I know, but... What are people's thoughts on full fat vs low fat yoghurt? Specifically, greek yogurt?
