☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@buzzofthebumblebee you walked 16k x2steps! You have plenty of energy and that squash dish sounds nice. Keep your fluids up with the extra steps and heat.

Benjispruce4 · 25/06/2022 07:38

We didn’t eat until v late last night and got an Indian takeaway. I had a vegetable balti and shared rice with DH. Not too bad. Lots of coastal walking planned today so will hopefully compensate for any extra cals.

milkfromthesleepycow · 25/06/2022 07:54

@buzzofthebumblebee 75% success is much better than 100% failure! Sounds like you're doing well, just not perfect- don't beat yourself up
I also find the heat saps the will out of me. Temp has dropped down here but really muggy and close which is even less pleasant!

@Benjispruce4 I also caved last night, but with Thai takeaway - chicken and cashew nuts and 1/3 portion pad Thai. Rest of the day had been on plan so hopefully not too much damage. Going to meal plan for next week tonight- must stop winging it!!

Off body boarding today as waves are meant to be good. Should hopefully burn some calories (and likely collect some bruises!)

Hi all,

SanFranBear well done!
After a number of treats this week - pizza(just half instead of normally a whole to myself), crisps (down from a pack a day to just two this week 😅) and a few other bits here and there, I'm pleased I'm 2lb off. I think upping my water/squash intake is helping a bit, so I'm going to try to keep that up.

SW : 11st 1lb
CW : 10st 11lb
GW : 10st
Have a lovely weekend everyone x

SanFranBear · 25/06/2022 15:18

Some excellent steps there, Buzz - especially given the weather lately... and 75% success is definitely still success - (plus boozy birthday lunches don't count 😉)

Have a wonderful break in Dorset, Benji - we love it over there and will be Weymouth bound again next weekend to see one of my oldest friends who lives in America. Promises to be a very drunken, 'fuck it' type weekend, but I'm all for it!

Even though you say you 'caved', milk and Benji - you're still making really healthy choices. I'm out for a late birthday celebration tonight (it's technically for my DD, a dear friend and her DS who all have birthdays in June... but my kitties turned 1 yesterday so I'm also celebrating for them 😳 They obviously won't be there but I will be baking them a cat friendly cake tomorrow - they're not spoiled, honest!)

It's back to being very sunny today after a downpour last night (when, of course, I was out and my laundry was on the line! Ah well, should dry today!) But I have purposefully had quite a lazy day, waiting for DC to come home. Just had the last of my Jambalaya for lunch and will now hold out for dinner tonight.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, whatever you're doing!

TheRealHousewife · 25/06/2022 15:24

Hello 👋

We've come away impromptu for a few days on the Norfolk coast. Tried to post a photo but the signal is a bit sketchy.

Menu - Totally off-piste 😬

Keep doing what you’re all doing and we’ll chat soon.

Have a great time @TheRealHousewife

@SanFranBear thanks for the encouragement. How big was that jambalaya?! Not sure if I've just been spending to much time in this thread or you're one helluva batch cooker 😉

Benjispruce4 · 25/06/2022 17:05

Hey everyone I’m recovering from a 30,000 step count today! Walked all day in glorious sun in coastal path.
B-porridge
L-prawn mayo sandwich by the sea- delish
apple,
half a lager,

SanFranBear · 25/06/2022 18:16

Beautiful picture, Benji... sounds like you deserve a nice, restful evening - or are you out on the razzle?

And my jambalaya wasn't that massive, milk 😆 but I'm the only one eating it so it feels like its been my meal for about a week (only 4 days in reality!) Pretty sizeable portions for not a lot of calories - my kind of meal!

Wizzwazzwas · 25/06/2022 18:40

Gorgeous photo!

Not been around much. Hugely stressful month. Weight went up 0.6 since I was last here, and then down 0.6 again by this wed.

Food a bit all over the place. Not doing as much exercise as intended. Sleep not good either.

Trying to keep logging and eating as well as I can when I can. Go for walks if nothing else. Trying to hold the faith it will improve again and I can keep going and not just give up completely.

Just eaten a piece of grilled sea bass and 227g chip shop chips. Hey ho

milkfromthesleepycow · 25/06/2022 18:53

Wow 30k steps!!! That's going to put you in a great place for the rest of the week @Benjispruce4

Stick to it @Wizzwazzwas, sounds like a sensible dinner and walking is great exercise. It'll happen

Meditating on your theme @SanFranBear. Might be an idea to make up some food that only I'll eat and portion it up to make it easier. I already do this for lunches but if I did it for dinners it would take some stress out the week....

Had a fun day at the beach, low step count but I'm sure fighting through the waves will have burnt some calories- big today!
Roast chicken and salad for dinner, got a portion of dates for snacking on this eve (and a sense of impending doom that it's all going too well 😂)

pennysays · 25/06/2022 21:28

Hi everyone. Checking in again. New scale bump didn’t last long and I’m almost almost almost at 70kg. My plan for may was to get below 70kg. But I think I can do it for June.

im listening to “how not to diet” by Michael Greger. Have any of you read it? I’m finding it SO helpful. I’m a real geek for literature that examines how robust evidence is for things and love the methodical approach he goes through all the evidence for things that can help us lose weight.

His headline is a plant-based diet - not vegan - but whole plants without anything removed from them. Loads of beans, peas and lentils and lots of water. Nothing new but really helpful to understand all the science behind it and how robust it is.

my main changes are a lot of water before meals and adding dark leafy greens to lunch and dinner and eating a lot of fruit.

anyone else read this? What did you think?

Benjispruce4 · 25/06/2022 22:00

Ending on 36000 steps!😱

Benjispruce4 · 25/06/2022 22:02

@pennysays not read it but I agree that you can’t go far wrong with eating whole, real foods. I try to make each meal nutritious and avoid junk and ultra processed food.

TheRealHousewife · 25/06/2022 22:47

@Benjispruce4 Fabulous photo! Where is that? A massive well done on 30,000 steps! That’s awesome.

So much for coming away … forgot my bags with my trainers, espadrilles, ALL UNDERWEAR, belts, accessories, toiletries, make up and half my clothes 😮 Managed to buy toiletries. Having to wash undies every night. Just have the wedges I travelled in and a battered pair of dockers that were already in back of the car. I look like a cross between a wild women of Borneo and a bag lady 😬

Feels kinda liberating and cuts down on time deciding what to wear 😬

Clearly you're an expert in packing light @TheRealHousewife .

milkfromthesleepycow · 26/06/2022 07:31

@HouseofHolbein good luck today- we're all cheering you on!

HouseofHolbein · 26/06/2022 07:34

Thank you! I need to get up and dressed meeting my lift at 8:30 😱 I will report back 👍

Benjispruce4 · 26/06/2022 08:44

Ha ha @TheRealHousewife DH forgot his T shirts!!!! Has had to buy a couple. He’s the organised one so I did enjoy it too much.😀
Ended on 37000 steps last night
Had a mare with food. Everything closes early here and after being promised a table at a restaurant and sitting outside with a drink for an hour we were told that food would be another hour. We decided to leave and get fish and chips on way back but that closed at 8!!!! It was now 9 so it was Chinese. I went for a rice noodle dish hoping it wasn’t too bad an option.3 halves of lager.
Anyway just had blueberry porridge and off to walk some more before home later.
We are in/on Portland, Dorset.

Benjispruce4 · 26/06/2022 08:45

Good luck @HouseofHolbein 💪

Benjispruce4 · 26/06/2022 08:46

The beach in my photo is Chesil.

milkfromthesleepycow · 26/06/2022 09:01

@TheRealHousewife 😂 the adventure of holidays!

Frustrating about closing times @Benjispruce4. Best laid plans and all

Good luck @HouseofHolbein !

Have a great time @TheRealHousewife despite lacking a fresh wardrobe!

Plodding along here, Ddog is having a procedure on Wednesday to flush her kidneys just to see if there's any hope of extending the prognosis but I'm not hopeful. So trying to make good choices and not wallow in chocolate!!!

Wizzwazzwas · 26/06/2022 11:02

This weight loss lark is really bizarre. Persuaded myself to do my usual Sunday weigh in despite feeling like everything is going wrong and perceiving myself as having got flabbier when I look in the mirror. Have lost 0.4kg since Wed. Now just overweight not obese. Makes no sense whatsoever. Shock

Moral of the story: just keep on keeping on even when things seem hopeless. Managed not to eat cheesecake last night, or crisps earlier in the week. Obviously it's worth it, despite many recent lapses with other things.

Currently trying to persuade myself to go for a run. Smile
