☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

dh on board so I should be focused. Eldest ds, daughter-in-law, her mom, little grand daughter and the family dog come Friday.

SanFranBear · 20/06/2022 15:24

Well done, Buzz - hope the beacon didn't hurt too much and your legs bounce back nicely!

You did make me 😃 with your hikes, CrimsonAlligator - mine always seem to take longer than expected. Doing you lots of good though... any nice pics? I've got three days off this week (whooop!) and have walks of varying distances planned as I haven't been able to get out for aaaaages! I'm so looking forward to it...

Well done on all the sensible choices, especially around bbq's (has definitely been the weather for it!) I've been pretty hungry all weekend but didn't sleep well due to DDs sleepover and various annoyances so am blaming that... roll on bedtime x

GermanShepherdLady · 20/06/2022 15:28

I'm definitely in, I'm going to start doing Keto, not only for weight loss but for ibs issues, so hopefully it'll kill two birds with one stone so to speak. I'm sat at 15st nearly so I'd like to lose 2/3 this year. Ideally I would like to get to 9/10st to be healthy.

I have issues with pain in my legs, as well as neuralgia in my face, hopefully this suppresses my desire to binge when pain subsides also being on a natural diet that helps fight hunger pangs.

TheRealHousewife · 20/06/2022 15:58

@ImALittlePea You’re brunch today sounds right up my street! 😋 I gave up liquid calories due to feeling rough the next day with just one or two drinks, then add in menopause. I just don’t have the cals to spare now and to be honest I don’t miss it! Occasionally I have a g&t or a glass of bubbles but that’s rare. In regards to the simple option; I agree they are at times the best option!

Welcome to the thread @GermanShepherdLady. You’ve made a plan and outlined how you intend to do it. I’m not eating Keto but I do do lower carb, higher protein, moderate fats. I worked out my macros so I get plenty of protein, healthy fats and lots of beneficial fibre. As my energy output is low I also count calories, which I know doesn’t suit everyone. Sorry to read you suffer pain! I hope it isn’t too debilitating!

@fallfallfall Lovely to hear you’ve seen your son this weekend. If he’s had it rough for a couple of years seeing mum will give him comfort and support ❤️
The food of love calories don’t count either! Win/win 😬

@CrimsonAlligator 🤣 A novel way to lose for sure 😬

Enjoy your afternoon 👍 and don’t forget to get the water in!

@TheRealHousewife he's a really nice fellow who acts much younger than his 37 years, lots of good energy. he's had a complicated knee surgery which he can now be somewhat optimistic about. I'm a happy mom :) which will help with the food choices.

fallfallfall · 20/06/2022 16:46

@CrimsonAlligator beautiful and serene!

buzzofthebumblebee · 20/06/2022 17:22

Thanks for the thanks all! I know for sure I have completely over-eaten exercise calories, but tomorrow is a new day.

Think my next big expedition will be a lovely hike - you continue to inspire me @SanFranBear & @CrimsonAlligator

Meant to say @TheRealHousewife your lovely lunch pic the other day inspired me to buy celery ; ) Must hard boil eggs too.

Chicken & veg curry for us this eve. When I'm tired I crave spicy food, bizarrely.

Keep up good work everyone!

milkfromthesleepycow · 20/06/2022 17:41

Lush pictures @CrimsonAlligator

I am in the last week of C25K but altered the plan a little as I wanted to run 4 times a week and then start a 5k training program. I doubt I'll ever see a sub22 5k again but would like to get to comfortably under 30mins, then I'll work on distance

Have signed up for the Edinburgh half marathon next year. It's more as an excuse to go home than anything else but it is motivating me to keep in with training!

Loved the long hike / no eatery combo- sounds like me whenever I try and navigate Dartmoor! Trail mix- never leave without it!

I also want the recipe for @ImALittlePea s lunch!

Welcome to @GermanShepherdLady

ImALittlePea · 20/06/2022 18:56

Ah unfortunately it was out in a cafe but probably quite simple to recreate at home! @milkfromthesleepycow

Benjispruce4 · 20/06/2022 19:10

Hi everyone, full of pride for my DD who just got a first in her degree.Proud Mama.
Will celebrate with her next week at the graduation 👩🏼‍🎓
B- boiled egg, seedy toast
L- salad with olives and a tbsp hummus, apple
D - DH made a veg stirfry with strips of steak and noodles. I had just a few noodles, 2x satsumas.
lots of water all day and tea.
cheeky weigh this morning and not budging. May need to reduce cals more or move more to shift this last 2 lbs. Motivation isn’t as strong obviously as I’m nearly there and all my clothes fit better after a 9lb total loss. But, I’m not hungry or deprived so if I carry on it will come off in time hopefully.
Lovely photos @CrimsonAlligator . Is that Wales?

TheRealHousewife · 20/06/2022 20:54

@buzzofthebumblebee You're very welcome. I usually have a few pre-boiled eggs in the fridge at any one time. Healthy snack to pop in bag or to add to any meal.

@milkfromthesleepycow 👍 Edinburgh 1/2 marathon, that’s a great motivator to keep you focused on your training!

Gorgeous pics, CrimsonAlligator - you really do live in a beautiful part of the world.. those waterfalls are just lovely!

And a half marathon - impressive stuff, milk! As always, so impressed with you runners.

Huge congratulations to your DD, Benji - that's a massive achievement. Hopefully that means the world is now her oyster and she's got exciting times ahead. Enjoy celebrating next week - now that's an occasion where the calories just don't count!

I'm in the office today so salad prepped and good intentions at the ready. I'm quite looking forward to choosing what to wear which is very unlike me but my wardrobe has magically opened up again and I have so much choice!

Have a wonderful day everyone!

ginsparkles · 21/06/2022 07:13

Morning all. Well done @Benjispruce4 to your daughter!!!

Stunning photos @CrimsonAlligator

Struggling a bit. The tablets have to be taken twice a day, I need one in the morning to get on top of the pain. But this means I'm having breakfast so my calorie intake has increased. And I find that once I pop, I can't stop. So if I have breakfast I am way hungrier than I am if I don't have it. If I don't eat until lunch I feel fine, I have lunch around 12.30. A small snack later afternoon around leaving work/getting home and then eat again around 7.30 then I'm done for the day.
If I have breakfast I'm hungry by mid morning, and continue to feel mildly hungry all day, which tends to lead to snacking. It's so frustrating!

Anyway. Todays plan is:
Breakfast- banana
Lunch - out with my mum, diary planning to organise the summer holidays with DD! So jacket potato or a salad
Dinner tomato and chick pea curry.
Am aiming to stay busy and not snack!

Benjispruce4 · 21/06/2022 07:19

Thanks everyone. @SanFranBear its such a good feeling to have the clothes you already have suddenly work and look good. Enjoy that.
Get well soon @ginsparkles .
I’m keeping on @TheRealHousewife . I checked my BMR and it’s still just over 1200 and sedentary to low activity is around 1500 so I think I need to just make sure I’m weighing and counting correctly.

TheRealHousewife · 21/06/2022 10:40

Good Morning 😊

@SanFranBear Its so much easier sticking to plan when you go into work with your own food! Lovely to read you’ve got more choice clothes wise, it’s a lovely feeling when something fits that previously didn’t! Well done on both points 👍👏

@ginsparkles I totally get it! When I have to take pain meds I have to eat with them and like you say, it revs up the metabolism. TMI - They can also ‘bung’ you up 😳. I feel totally bloated and uncomfortable on meds. Hope you feel better soon and can stop taking them sooner rather than later!

@Benjispruce4 👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Spicy hummus & carrot, red pepper & celery crudités. GF oat cakes.
Meal 2 - Salmon and spicy basmati rice.
Tea, black coffee, water 💧

buzzofthebumblebee · 21/06/2022 12:37

Huge congrats to your DD @Benjispruce4 - amazing achievement! You must be very proud, and quite rightly so.

Good for you signing up for a 1/2 marathon @milkfromthesleepycow (is it hilly in Edinburgh - or do you just miss the bit in the middle ?!?) - great to have a goal to aim for. (you've inspired me to perhaps sign up to one too ... I did a 10k in May - half marathon is only twice that ? hahahaha ?!!!)

Sorry to hear you are struggling @ginsparkles - I get how frustrating the eating earlier in the day thing is. Hope you find a balance.

Yummy food again @TheRealHousewife - always so impressed by such variety in your diet generally - you are an inspiration

Ok here. Ate some chocolate last night as I just couldn't resist. Luckily it was the last in the box - as I'm all or nothing, I would have cleared the lot. Hormones all upside down, bizarrely, and just suddenly got a period. Thought I was all done with it at 50, but clearly not ... would account for the night sweats back in full force too over the last few days. Humph. I can't help but think this hormone spike is directly related to my recent intake of sugar (lots of jelly babies on sunday on my bike ride), after a long time without sugar. Am sure it has something to do with it.

Lots of water today to flush it all out !

milkfromthesleepycow · 21/06/2022 13:33

@buzzofthebumblebee yes- sign up for a half!! You're right it's only double 😉 and way less than a 55mile bike ride!

The Edinburgh one has the reputation for being one of the fastest courses around, it's all downhill at the beginning then relatively flat- sheer coincidence I signed up for that one 😂

TheRealHousewife · 21/06/2022 14:44

Oh my @buzzofthebumblebee thank you 🙏 Although compliments of any sort make me blush and I feel unworthy 😬

Hello everyone! Been awol due to lots of work. Plus I went out on Saturday for a couple of drinks and stumbled home after 2am then had to be out for 6am to help with a volunteer thing 😭😭

Anyway. Doesn't seem to have done much damage. Been drinking plenty of water and went for a run last night 👍 I have my half marathon on Sunday and have done very little training for it 😭😭 but I'm hydrating already.

Today I've done day 7 of 8 at work and can't wait for my day off on Thursday 😊

Dinner tonight is going to be pork chops jersey mids and veg 👍

HouseofHolbein · 21/06/2022 16:19

Race number for Sunday 😭😭

LOSE IT! JUNE 2022 ☀️
CrimsonAlligator · 21/06/2022 16:45

You’ve got this @HouseofHolbein ! I’m sure we’ll all be cheering you on 😊

I’m impressed with all the exercise on this thread. A half marathon sounds daunting to me @milkfromthesleepycow , but I guess you’ll have plenty of time to train?

My own rowing race is taking place in just over two weeks’ time, but it’s only in my garage with the time I set 12 weeks ago as the only completion. It’s not exactly the same as doing a race in front of a crowd 😂 I’m training as if it actually matters though and have a whole week of tough rowing sessions to look forward to. 2 hours of rowing planned for today 😥

HouseofHolbein · 21/06/2022 16:48

@CrimsonAlligator I really liked our rowing machine but we didn't have room for it really so it had to go unfortunately. Good luck with your event 👍
