☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Bottle green rhubarb and ginger cordial with tonic water (I drink at least 500ml of low calorie tonic water a day- non negotiable calorie intake as staying off alcohol is the most important thing to me)

If I'm splashing out either atopia rhubarb or aeron bitters. They cost as much as real alcohol 😱😱

The only palatable red wine substitute I've found is nine elms ruby velven. I know no one asked about red wine subs but it comes up so frequently in my other circles!! Again sadly not cheap

@TheRealHousewife @Benjispruce4 I've found that it's the thought of having a 'special' drink that does it. I have more fancy glasses, sliced fruit and various herbal mixes to add to plain tonic than I ever have in my life. I've even been know you break out the tiny cocktail umbrellas and a sparkler!!

Vic1234567 · 18/06/2022 10:42

Benjispruce4your wrap sounds really nice! I think I'll pick myself up some mushroom later and make myself one ☺️

Anyone how fattening paella is? Thinking of using a veggie stock and putting some random veg in x

Benjispruce4 · 18/06/2022 10:50

Google 300/400/500/600 calorie paella.
Thanks @milkfromthesleepycow i agree about a nice glass and specialness.

CrimsonAlligator · 18/06/2022 11:14

Morning all! I treated myself to a shopping trip yesterday, which was...interesting. As I had started to suspect, I do now indeed almost fit into size 10s, except that most tops, jackets etc were all ridiculously tight around the shoulders. I guess all that rowing is backfiring 😂 On a more positive note, I no longer feel self conscious of my (previously very soft) arms and have been flaunting them happily these last few days 😊

milkfromthesleepycow · 18/06/2022 11:27

@CrimsonAlligator lol I think that's a good problem to have! Summer and sleeveless tops are a natural combination

Howmanysleepsnow · 18/06/2022 12:53

Can I join you please? I have no strategy and I’m looking for inspiration/ help!
Im mid 40s and have been putting on weight and struggling to lose it for the last 3 years. 4dc, 2dogs and FT work mean no time or money for the gym. I know weight loss is 80% diet but right now the diet size has stopped working and I’ve been 11st one for 10 months despite trying calorie counting (weighing everything), low carb, 16:8….
The last month I’ve actually upped my calories to around 1300 a day (I used to gain at 1150+) just to see what happened. Still 11st. I’d love to be under 10st again but can’t see how.
Unless anyone has any tips I might just go back to reducing calories, maybe on alternate days so my body doesn’t go into starvation mode?

SanFranBear · 18/06/2022 12:59

Massive congrats, Milk - that is definitely a milestone to be proud of.. well done! I'd also love your rhubarb cordial recommendation - hated it as a child (my poor mum - it was her favourite but we had it soooo rarely) but adore it now!

Sorry to hear of your bad head, Benji - definitely the worst symptom for me when I had it... lasted the entire 10 days I was positive, from morning until night. Then just vanished so hope it's the same for you - and heat certainly doesn't help!

Great loss, Vic!

Wishing you a lovely Saturday too, RealHousewife... and thanks for the reminder on water 💧 I've got a bit slack on this front, as per usual, and it makes such a difference.

DDs birthday sleepover tonight - three young teenage girls with pizza, movie and screeching all night... what could go wrong???!

CrimsonAlligator · 18/06/2022 14:23

Welcome to the thread @Howmanysleepsnow . How tall are you? Are you at, or close to a healthy weight?

You’re right that exercise doesn’t make that much of a difference, but is there any way in which you can generally improve how active you are? That doesn’t have to feature long gym sessions. It could be short walks, dancing around, playing with the kids etc.

Also, are you getting enough sleep? Stress and a lack of sleep can have a big impact on weightloss.

Vic1234567 · 18/06/2022 16:20

Thank you x

Gakatsbsk · 18/06/2022 19:11

I had a great time at HS on Saturday.

Back to it from Sunday, but have had covid and my period. Have eaten within calories.

Weighed this am: 11st 5.5 lbs. Down 0.5lb.

I’m okay with this and think a bit of it is covid / period related but concerned that weight loss is slowing right down.

I don’t want to starve myself and have been having 1300-1600 a day. At the moment I’m just going to continue and see how things are once covid and this period are all finished. And at the end of the day if I lose 0.5lb a week it’s still a good healthy steady loss.

I have no end goal but have at least another stone or two to go, I’m much happier with how I look now than when I started. My holiday in the sun is in just under 6 weeks, if I could get to the 10 stone bracket I’d be super happy.

Any advice for the plateau appreciated

fallfallfall · 18/06/2022 22:02

just a fiber hint and i'm not sure how this will work long term but i have wheat bran in the baking cupboard and for 2gm of fiber and only 8 calories i mixed in 1tbsp of bran into my hummus and it was tasteless. i might find myself adding it into my salad tonight along with a few other bits and bobs from the fridge. getting in my protein is still difficult, even when i try.

TheRealHousewife · 19/06/2022 06:54

Good Morning 😊

Good tip @fallfallfall . I use oat bran as similar in fibre content but GF.

You’ve done well to stick to plan and lose a bit when you’ve had covid @Gakatsbsk Hope you’re soon fully recovered!

Welcome to the thread @Howmanysleepsnow 👋 Interesting you upped the cals but stayed the same rather than gaining. Sorry I don’t have any answers for you. Weight loss is complex and definitely not linear. I’ve accepted I’m at the upper end of maintenance due to weight fluctuating up and down the same few pounds for about a year. I dare not lower cals any more (1000-1100) as my body, skin, hair needs the nutrients. So I keep going by making healthy food choices, calorie counting, 2 meals a day and IF. Otherwise I would gain week on week and would be far far heavier.

@CrimsonAlligator Congratulations 👏 on the 10s!

@SanFranBear Youre right, water does make quite a difference! I agree with @CrimsonAlligator about getting enough quality sleep too! I’m up against it today as had a late night (nothing exciting, slug and snail patrol) and then woke up when someone’s house alarm started at 2:45am. Not managed to get back to sleep either 🤷‍♀️ I’ll be mindful if i feel I want to eat more and tell myself it’s the lack of sleep talking.

I like your style @milkfromthesleepycow 🍹 < Passion fruit, Augusta’s bitters and tonic water with a sparkler 😊

Menu
Meal 1 - Roast Chicken, leeks, carrots, kale, broccoli and a few new potatoes skin on. Onion gravy.

Meal 2 - Greek yogurt and chopped apple, pear, dates, pecans & banana.
Tea, black coffee, water.

Pleased to say it feels cooler today ⛅️

PS Fathers Day today ❤️

Stuffed my face this weekend Had burgers, hot dogs, ice cream, cupcakes at the BBQ. Leftover chicken and sides last night, cinnamon buns, handful of minstrels. Plenty of wine across both days.

I'm up 4lbs! But confident it's primarily water weight, going to drink plenty of water and hopefully it drops off again before weigh in day

@CrimsonAlligator Great to hear you're feeling good about you arms! Definitely keep flaunting because you've earnt it

Benjispruce4 · 19/06/2022 10:03

Morning all.
Ended up going out to eat last night but was a bit calamitous as we left it late then had a couple of disappointments. Our first choice had a private event going on, second was fully booked after we’d already checked and ordered a drink at the bar and the third accepted our booking online but on arrival we were almost reprimanded for coming at kitchen closing time. I very nearly walked but by that time was too hungry! Hospitality in U.K. leaves a lot to be desired at times. Anyway the menu didn’t inspire me(pub chain) apart from the chickpea curry which was really nice. Came with copious amounts of naan which I didn’t touch as the curry and rice was enough. Had a Peroni 0% beer and it was excellent. Not sure on calories as forgot to check in the rushed ordering.
Got my DF for dinner to day and I’m making lasagne. I’ll skip garlic bread and just have salad.
B- sourdough toasted with some mashed avocado, Tabasco on top.
L/D- lasagne with salad.

Benjispruce4 · 19/06/2022 10:15

Just checked last night’s curry cals online. Says 1076 but that includes the naan that I didn’t eat.

milkfromthesleepycow · 19/06/2022 11:42

@Benjispruce4 the peroni's only 76cal (got some in the fridge). Probably only 600 for the curry if you discount the naan? Doesn't sound bad at all!

Benjispruce4 · 19/06/2022 12:04

Ah thanks @milkfromthesleepycow thats not bad at all. I only had an apple at lunchtime as I had a late breakfast.😀
On the cordial front, I’ve been to two supermarkets and can’t find the rhubarb cordial so I bought elderflower and a bottle of ginger. Never had ginger before and just trying it with sparkling water and ice- very nice 👍🏻

123ROLO · 19/06/2022 12:53

Hi everyone. Not been able to be strict last couple of days as I've had guests up. But I haven't been too bad, no major indulgences. Back to being strict today.

Lizsmum · 19/06/2022 18:41

@Gakatsbsk and @Howmanysleepsnow I had some good advice from @TheRealHousewife and @Benjispruce4 about dealing with a slowdown. Keep on keeping on - and i can report back that having had a bit of a plateau it seems to be working.

buzzofthebumblebee · 20/06/2022 07:33

Massive congrats on your 1000 days @milkfromthesleepycow . Certainly something to celebrate and be proud of.

Well done everyone else. I too need to downsize my bras, and congrats to Crimson (I think) on comfortably fitting into size 10s. 12's for me, but having been a 14 for years, I am SO happy. Can't afford to replace whole wardrobe, but gradually am going to have to.

I've just caught up on everyone's posts - I've been a bit awol as busy with work, then 2 x birthday parties to go to this weekend, and then my big bike ride London-Brighton yesterday. 55+ miles. Hope the bike ride offsets the calorie intake from previous couple of days !!

Hopefully not as hot this week. Have a good week everyone. Sending positive NO SNACKING vibes!

Benjispruce4 · 20/06/2022 07:41

Oh well done @buzzofthebumblebee hope the bike ride went ok. DH did that in the 90s. I followed in a car !😀

milkfromthesleepycow · 20/06/2022 08:09

@buzzofthebumblebee that's an amazing distance- well done!! Plenty of protein and water today to support your body

I just ran for 30mins and managed 4.1km. Not a bad start to the day 😁

TheRealHousewife · 20/06/2022 08:45

Good Morning! How you all doing?

Don’t panic @ButteryNuts , I’m sure getting back on track and with a few tweaks will see it gone! You know what works for you, just do it by investing in yourself 😊

@Benjispruce4 I agree about UK hospitality! Peroni … good choice! Try not to worry too much about the cals. As you said it came with naan which you didn’t eat! Any gain will be salt/water weight. Fresh new start today!

@buzzofthebumblebee Fabulous bike ride! Well done and also well done on
your 12s! Much deserved!

@milkfromthesleepycow Good start to the day! You got ahead there 👏

Pleased to hear that @Lizsmum All we can do at times is keep on keeping on it 🫡

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made spicy chicken soup. Walnuts.
Meal 2 - Cheese & mushroom omelette with huge salad. Home made dressing.
Tea, black coffee, water.

CrimsonAlligator · 20/06/2022 11:10

Congratulations on completing your bike ride @buzzofthebumblebee. I’m sure that will have burnt a few calorie! Are you planning any more long distance cycle rides for the near future?

Well done on your run @milkfromthesleepycow Are you doing C25K?

I had a bit of a weird weekend food wise, mainly due to going on hikes that took much longer than expected and went nowhere near anywhere I could buy food. I don’t recommend that approach to weightloss 😬

ImALittlePea · 20/06/2022 13:43

Afternoon!

Had a lovely, busy weekend with friends and family - ate lovely food but don't feel like I went overboard (e.g. only one roll with BBQ Saturday, and lots of salad/lean meat). Have done a fair amount of walking/running around after the children. Didn't drink Friday or Sunday, which I normally do - definitely starting to question how much I want it now.

Loving the cordial recommendations, going to get some nice ones to try when I do the food shop!

1000 days is excellent @milkfromthesleepycow 🥳

Congrats on the bike ride @buzzofthebumblebee 🥳 and on the 12s 🥳

And congrats on the 10s @CrimsonAlligator 🥳

Countdown to holiday for me this week! Not going far, a seaside resort an hour(ish) away from home, but can't wait. Going to weigh in on Thursday before we set off. Will just be happy to STS, if I'm honest 🤞

Took a friend out for brunch for a birthday treat today, had halloumi, sweet potato, garlic mushrooms and scrambled egg, swerved the toast. More calories than my normal lunch but I'm fine with that.

Dinner tonight - crushed newies, Quorn nuggets and beans. Can't beat a simple dinner sometimes.

Have a lovely week, all ❤️
