☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@pinkyponkyplink , good question. i took a quick look on google and it suggested 4 weeks is the average length of a plateau but also said it depends on what changes you make. they also suggested plateau's come about from eating a bit more and exercising a bit less after so many months of focus.
my personal trainer would usually change up my exercise routine.

ImALittlePea · 16/06/2022 07:09

HUGE well done to all the WoWers yesterday! Positivity in abundance regardless of the outcomes.

This is sooooo relatable @SanFranBear...

its a marathon, not a sprint, and I don't want my life to revolve around the scales. Still want to have lost though 😄

I had lunch out with a friend yesterday, a local cafe does the most delicious (and giant) sausage rolls, I had a sweet chilli one and we are it on the beach. He had a cake as well but I refrained. Dinner was hunters chicken, wedges and peas. So was probably over on calories, but it was fully enjoyable.

Today's plan is
Lunch - back to cup-a-soup!
Dinner - the last batch of my veggie & broad bean stew from the freezer. Off to the theatre tonight but not going to have anything other than tea or sparkling water.

Then bring on weigh in tomorrow (I think) 😅

ginsparkles · 16/06/2022 07:51

Morning all. Day off today, and first priority is to get an appointment with the doc. I fell heavily on my back whilst on holiday and the area of my previous spinal fracture is now incredibly painful so erring on the side of caution and getting it checked out.

Having a nice walk in the sun with my friend, would usually take Ddog, but she's 14 and has had lots of walking from our dog walker whilst we away and she seems to be struggling on her back legs, so am giving her a break from anything strenuous.

Food wise todays plan:
Moroccan Cous Cous with feta for lunch
Baked potato with beans for dinner (simple easy favourite!)

TheRealHousewife · 16/06/2022 08:58

Good Morning 😊

Weathers gone from one extreme to the other 🥵 Not grumbling, honest😬

@ginsparkles Fingers crossed you’ve not seriously damaged yourself and it’s just bruising 🙏 Enjoy your walk! Your menu is tasty yet simples 😋

@ImALittlePea I miss the theatre, it’s been several years since I last went. Enjoy! Totally agree that weight management is a life long path we choose to follow.

@SanFranBear Your salad bowl sounds very tasty 😋. When we are on the roads needs must! I totally agree, our lives and choices shouldn’t revolve around the scales. Life is for living 🥳 You could miss this weeks weigh-in and save disappointing yourself … on the other hand you could have sts or even lost 🤞

@Lizsmum How was your walk yesterday? Are you going again today? It will help.

@xogossipgirlxo Well done on getting your exercise in! I sympathise with your hormonal gains. I used to be the same! My weight could fluctuate 10lbs or more! In my case it turned out I was suffering from endometriosis. I’m not suggesting you are, I was explaining my extreme hormonal fluctuations 🙂

Menu
Meal 1 - Quinoa & boiled egg salad.
Meal 2 - Chilli & Spicy Cauliflower Rice.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Enjoy your day and stay hydrated! ☀️💦

Morning all! What is this hot weather you are speaking off @TheRealHousewife ? It’s a pleasant 18 degrees here out west and not expected to get any higher than that all week. I’m starting to feel like I’m missing out! 😂

@pinkyponkyplink this article explains weightloss plateaus well:

www.secondnature.io/guides/mind/motivation/weight-loss-plateaus-explained

When I hit a plateau last year, it took 3 months for the scales to start moving again. On the plus side having the occasional blow out during that time also didn’t add to my weight as I was well and truly stuck on the same number.

@ginsparkles i hope your back turns out to nothing serious 🤞

ginsparkles · 16/06/2022 09:35

@TheRealHousewife .... simple and tasty pretty much sums me up! 😂

123ROLO · 16/06/2022 09:36

Hi everyone

Glad to see everyone's doing well

I wouldn't be concerned about a bit of weight gain on holiday, enjoying the food is a big part of holidays. And the weight can also be water weight from increased carbs and change of routine.

My diets gone pretty well. I've not been able to stick to smoothies only. One being I didn't follow any recipes, blended ginger and carrot in a smoothie is vile. Don't do it! The other is feeling woozy in evening. I've not eaten much just some ham, cheese, olives and fruit.

I estimate I'm around the 1000 calorie mark.

I have a friend coming for tea tonight, I'm making Chipotle chicken, spiced bean mix and a mango salsa with adovcado.

I'm going out for dinner tomorrow, it's asian tapas I've already picked my food, scallops, dumplings, and duck pancakes.

Following night I have guests up again. They like fish. So will make something fish based. Will try to keep it light and healthy.

The following week, I'm eating out fri sat and sun. So again I'm going to try and be very strict through week, and chose sensible food when out.

ButteryNuts · 16/06/2022 09:41

Oh no @ginsparkles I hope your fall has caused nothing serious

raqua · 16/06/2022 11:35

Would love to join in. I am doing 16:8 intermittent fasting on weekdays. Lost just 0.5kg so far in last few weeks of IF

123ROLO · 16/06/2022 11:42

Welcome @raqua . With fasting diets I've heard it's often a woosh effect. So you see very little for a while then a lot at once.

Has anyone got any weird milestones?

Mine is that most of my nickers keep falling below my stomach pooch. Once I can pull my nickers up and they stay up I'll be happy!

TheRealHousewife · 16/06/2022 12:38

Me & you both @ginsparkles simple & tasty 🤣.

TheRealHousewife · 16/06/2022 12:41

@TheRealHousewife my mum has endometriosis. I kind of made my peace that it might happen to me at some point, but so far my doctor says everything is OK when I told her about it (?). I hope so, because we would like to start trying for a baby from November.

xogossipgirlxo · 16/06/2022 13:02

ginsparkles · 16/06/2022 12:39

You poor thing. I hope results will come back OK and you just need to rest a bit and not overstretch your back. My dad broke his arm during lockdown and spent many many hours in A&E with nothing to eat or drink. Receptionist gave him his sandwich. How lovely of her.

TheRealHousewife · 16/06/2022 15:00

Trigger warning (baby loss and illness) @xogossipgirlxo Sorry to read your mum suffered. Have you ever been offered a laparoscopy? I only ask as that is the only way to establish if you have it or not. Although if you were suffering with that disease you would have significant symptoms. My diagnosis was 10 years in the coming. At one time I lost a pregnancy which was initially dismissed. After I was diagnosed with endo they said that it was the disease that caused the miscarriage 😢My endo was so severe coupled with other issues I had to have womb, cervix and tubes removed. They lasered of the endo from my internal organs and abdominal cavity causing complications including a perforated bowel.

@ginsparkles Have you been seen yet? Hope you’re ok 🥹

OP posts:
fallfallfall · 16/06/2022 17:21

@ginsparkles , virtual handhold as you wait, along with some positive T&P that you get a thorough assessment.
@TheRealHousewife i'm sorry to hear about this, do you think the medical people involved could have done more sooner? or was it all a bit elusive.

hour 14-16 of the fasting period is a bit challenging but dh onboard so that's helpful. good weigh in this am 158.8.
i'm contemplating some supplements to help me reach the fiber, omega 3 and vit d goals of the galveston diet (although since i've changed up the macro's and don't plan on using those macro's maybe the targets for fiber etc are exaggerated?).

SanFranBear · 16/06/2022 18:04

Oh dear, Gin.. hope you're now being seen and you get can get home and have something to eat soon.

Really great result, fallfallfall - is that about 5kg off since you got back on the horse (for some reason, I have 163 stuck in my head!) Regardless, really well done!

Welcome, Raqua. I'm hoping Rolo is right and you see a sudden whoosh - so satisfying! I don't have any weird milestones as such although would like to consign more of my bigger trousers to the rubbish heap! I'm comfortably in my size 16's now which have been languishing for far too long so that's a real NSV!

I somehow missed your messages for Sunshine/Lightening, RealHousewife.. I'm missing you lots too so if you feel able and more importantly, comfortable, I'd love to see you back too..

ginsparkles · 16/06/2022 18:14

Hi! Back home. No break, thank god. Back has gone into spasm to protect it from damage. So I have lots heavy medication and have been told not to over do it

CrimsonAlligator · 16/06/2022 18:21

I’m so sorry to read what you went through @TheRealHousewife Flowers That’s horrific.

@fallfallfall I found this article about calculating fibre requirements which may be useful. If you go down the supplement route I recommend increasing your fibre intake slowly

healthyeating.sfgate.com/calculate-much-fiber-one-needs-day-4814.html

I had another NSV today when I found some jeans I used to wear when I was at least a stone lighter. Somehow they fit! I guess that means my waist is now about the same size as it used to be when I was a stone lighter?! I know people always go on about muscle weighing more than fat, but I didn’t think it’d make THAT much of a difference 😯

Benjispruce4 · 16/06/2022 18:29

Hi everyone. Sweltering school trip today but all good fun.
B- porridge, berries and yoghurt
L- salad with cold roasted peppers and tomatoes and olives, apple
D- cous cous with something
Too hot to think!

TheRealHousewife · 16/06/2022 20:15

@CrimsonAlligator @fallfallfall Thank you. I had a male gp at the time who kept telling me it was some ‘womens lot to have painful heavy periods’. It took a decade of pestering to be taken seriously. At the time endometriosis wasn’t as well known.

That is fabulous news, get those feet up @ginsparkles !

Fabulous NSV @CrimsonAlligator 👍It’s a great feeling when we get into smaller sizes!

@Benjispruce4 i agree it’s far too hot to do much at all 😬

@Lizsmum How was your walk yesterday? Are you going again today? It will help.

@TheRealHousewife thank you for the encouragement. I've had a very static day but you prompted me to have a short walk after dinner.

@ginsparkles that sounds horrid. I think current policy is to keep moving as much as possible with back pain but it does seem counterintuitive. I hope the pain killers work well.

fallfallfall · 16/06/2022 21:56

@SanFranBear just over 4 lbs not kg, i could only dream of loosing an easy 5kg . dh is complaining i'm not taking care of his higher caloric needs...so i took him shopping, he bought himself 2 different types of cheese. he can eat anything he wants really he's very active and healthy BMI. he can add all the bread/toast/cheese/apples he wants.

SanFranBear · 17/06/2022 07:08

Ooops, sorry fallfallfall - still a cracking result though, quarter of a stone! And most importantly, in the right direction. Toast and cheese.... your DH is a lucky man 😉

Well, my weigh day was better than expected... just over 1kg down from last week, so holiday weight still gone despite splurging for DDs birthday and under 80kg - whooop:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 79.8kg
June GW: 78kg

Stretching target of another 2kgs by July which might be tricky but would be the lowest I've been since DC. I've also got three days off, end of next week, and have some serious hikes planned in (haven't been out this week 😟). That said, muscle weighs more - although takes up less room! - so we'll see.

Hope everyone has a lovely Friday - inset day for DS so he has a buddy round and think we'll go swimming later... not exactly an hour of lane-swimming but it'll still do me good, I expect!
