☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I finally made it to just under 9 stone. I think any remaining weight loss will be slow, but plan to keep this up until late July and see where I get to; another half stone off would be good, but I'm not banking on it.

New job is going well - handily the (very nice) cafe at new office has cals for all main courses so it's easy to get a healthy lunch there.

Lizsmum · 15/06/2022 08:31

I have STS this week and am very disappointed. I have stayed well within my calorie limits and been (by my standards) reasonably active. I guess it's the dreaded plateau and I just need to grit my teeth and carry on.
I've bought a smaller bra and my belt needs to be tighter so I'll celebrate the NSV.

I'm so impressed by the commitment of those of you who are very close to target or have (by my standards) very little to lose. And by the massive amount of exercise you do.

SW 15 st
CW 13 st 5
GW who knows long term but 13 st by July 9th

@milkfromthesleepycow 🤣definitely a more useful skill and one I wished I could learn!

@Benjispruce4 @Chatterbox89 @Echobelly @milkfromthesleepycow Congratulations on being fabulous WOWERS 🤩 You’ve all done brilliantly! Don’t rest on your laurels … now keep going and remain mindful 😬

@Lizsmum You have done brilliantly losing over 1.5 stone so far. I can understand your disappointment because you’ve done everything right but weight loss, unfortunately, isn’t linear. It can be a strange beast and our bodies sometimes panic and rebel against our best efforts. Perseverance and consistency is the way to go. You’re doing great 👍

Morning all! Based on the numbers on the scales this morning, I’d have to declare that I’ve stayed the same this week. But I’ve been weighing myself every day this month and seen a strong downward trend all week, followed by a massive overnight spike (2 lbs!). Clearly I haven’t actually put on 2 lbs in a day, so I reckon that will disappear sometime over the next few days. That’s a long winded way of me saying that I’m not bothered 😂

Well done on improving your running pace @milkfromthesleepycow and fitting into trousers that were previously a struggle to get into is always a triumph @Benjispruce4! My own NSV is that I’ve bought a new jacket (after being inspired by @ImALittlePea last week) but the size 12 feels a bit roomy, so I’ve now ordered a size 10. No idea if that’s actually going to fit or if I’ll find that too snug, but even just being a small size 12 is pretty exciting.

@Lizsmum re. exercise, I find it hard to stay motivated long term when my main aim for losing weight is to look better. It takes so much time to see results and once I made it to a healthy BMI a few pounds more of less didn’t make that much of a difference for me. With exercise though, I see results every single week. I get fitter, I get stronger and if I don’t look after myself those exercise sessions soon start to feel like really hard work. So in many ways exercise is a lot more rewarding than weightloss, with the added benefit that it’s all under my own control. Weightloss on the other hand can be so unpredictable! Btw, as @TheRealHousewife says, just keep doing what you’re doing. You’re doing great and those scales WILL start moving again!

ginsparkles · 15/06/2022 10:45

Morning all, I braved the scales and France was night kind to my waistline!!

So todays plan is a bit skew whiff as I'm out at the theatre tonight so I have brought with me to work a lunch and a dinner!

Lunch same as yesterday katsu noodle salad
Dinner ham and piccalilli sandwich
Have brought 2 bananas, low fat yoghurt and a apple bar for snacks.

No more of this for the time being ... either the food or the view!

ButteryNuts · 15/06/2022 11:20

Morning everyone.

Well done for the losses!

Absolutely exhausted so fell asleep as soon as I got in last night and up about 20 mins before I needed to leave! But managed to weigh myself and measure my waist so:

1st June
SW: 13st 2
Waist: 40"
BMI: 30.6

15th June:
SW: 12st 4 (-12lbs)
Waist: 36.5" (-3.5")
BMI: 28.6 (-2)

TheRealHousewife · 15/06/2022 11:32

@ginsparkles that baguette 🥖 looks filthy delicious 😋 One of the things I miss due to being celiac is French crunchy bread! You’ll have made lovely French memories and the waistline will recover 👍

@ButteryNuts (BTW I actually love this username) A big shiny medal 🥇 for you. 2points of BMI is significant and will have such a positive effect on your general health! Well done!

@CrimsonAlligator 🤣that’s the spirit! And I do believe your are right!

ginsparkles · 15/06/2022 11:34

@TheRealHousewife you are so right! Now I just have to behave myself and lose those extra lbs, plus a few more along with them.

ButteryNuts · 15/06/2022 11:39

@TheRealHousewife Thank you! About both the username and the weighloss Grin

buzzofthebumblebee · 15/06/2022 12:21

Well done on losses ladies, especially the small ones as they mount up.

Huge congrats on your fantastic loss @ButteryNuts - your username made me grin too !! You're clearly on track and in control <remember those days fondly>

I'm in the same STS club as you @Lizsmum . Frustrating isn't it? But @CrimsonAlligator & @TheRealHousewife both very sensible. Plateau, converting fat to muscle etc etc etc

I caught sight of myself in a long mirror out and about the other day - I looked very different to mine at home. Whilst I am very much a size 12 now with muscle tone & definition I thought I'd never be capable of, I'm in denial and there is definitely body fat to get rid of. So stick at it I shall.

buzzofthebumblebee · 15/06/2022 12:24

bet that ham & cheese baguette was delicious @ginsparkles

xogossipgirlxo · 15/06/2022 12:36

@ButteryNuts great results, congratulations xx

I am not stepping on a scale right now, because I am before my period. Will do it in two weeks or so, as my body can retain ridiculous amounts of water. I think I eat well though. On Monday I did power walking, yesterday I did Pilates class, I don't know yet what I fancy for tonight, but I have office job, so 30 minutes of exercise a day is a must for me, otherwise my legs are very tired 😑

ginsparkles · 15/06/2022 12:49

@buzzofthebumblebee it was delicious but as a rule I avoid bread so I suspect a lot of my current weight gain is bloating thanks to the bread and wine! (Well so I hope anyway!!)

Lizsmum · 15/06/2022 15:39

Thank you for the wise counsel @CrimsonAlligator and @TheRealHousewife . I know you're both absolutely correct. I think i'd just got too used to seeing the numbers move on the scale every week.

You've inspired me to go for a quick walk round the park now, before my French lesson starts on Zoom.

@ButteryNuts those results are amazing! ⭐for you

ButteryNuts · 15/06/2022 15:40

Thank you everyone for the well dones!

Benjispruce4 · 15/06/2022 16:23

Oh wow indeed @ButteryNuts that’s a big loss in a short space of time. 😇

Benjispruce4 · 15/06/2022 16:26

@Lizsmum keep going. I maintained for weeks after relatively easy and quickish loss. It’s just starting to go down again.
In my head, I know that if I just stick to it, I will lose because I’m creating a calorie deficit and I just have to be patient.

fallfallfall · 15/06/2022 16:41

lots of lovely weigh in's, well done everyone.
up .1 today so 159.5. i'm accepting this and will stay the course and try and plan better today, soup at lunchtime seemed to work well. i've soaked some beans to add into salads, i call them magic beans. they are locally grown by a couple from south america (el salvadore i believe). they are really colorful and a mix of size and shapes. magic because for a cooked dish they don't need soaking or pre cooking.

Benjispruce4 · 15/06/2022 22:04

Today’s meals:
B- poached egg on seedy toast
L- more of the leftover lentil kofte with salad, flat peach
D- grilled chicken and pepper skewers with small serving of cous cous, apple.

pinkyponkyplink · 15/06/2022 22:54

Could anyone explain why weight suddenly maintains then drops again? How long does this last? Thanks

Benjispruce4 · 15/06/2022 23:02

@TheRealHousewife Has linked to a few explanations in this thread. Google weight loss plateau but I think it’s about the body adjusting and holding on to weight while it does that.

SanFranBear · 15/06/2022 23:02

Super big well done, all you WoW'ers... some excellent results, especially ButteryNuts as that's a significant amount in such a short length of time - well done!

I've not managed my WoW this week as was away for work today so am feeling somewhat lethargic now I'm home. Can't get out on Friday either as DS on an inset day. I totally feel it when I can't be active but it also, sadly, can't be helped this week.

I have however had a good day, diet wise - raw fruit bar for breakfast; crackers, cheese and strawberries for lunch; dinner was due to be a party buffet but the restaurant messed up badly and I had to leave before they'd served more than a couple of plates of cold chips and very sorry looking tacos. So I stopped at some services and had the most delicious couscous salad from Waitrose - ridiculously expensive but was packed full of my favourite things (red cabbage, edamame beans, lentils...) and was so low in calories that I treated myself to one of DDs birthday Brownies when I finally got in.

Still not excited for my Friday weigh in as last night was extremely indulgent but its a marathon, not a sprint, and I don't want my life to revolve around the scales. Still want to have lost though 😄
