☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Another idea if you snack in the evening is to go for a long walk after dinner. Especially nice this time of year. I have to because of the dog but I believe it’s good for lowering blood sugar too and stops that habit.

fallfallfall · 13/06/2022 16:30

okay morning weight 160.3, hoping to be in the 150's tomorrow then.
i might achieve a 15 hour fast i'm sitting at 14:32 and haven't done wordle or started the eggs.
this calorie counting app (desktop and iphone) seems okay at this point. starting point is 747 calories per day and additional calories are to be earned with exercise or changing my weight loss goal, so i'm eating back my exercise calories to a certain limit (will not eat under 900). it's sync'd with my apple watch (and my scale in theory but i've had to manually enter my weight each am).
i gather the app is somehow associated with the "galveston diet" which has very little appeal as it's really the calorie bank and database i'm interested in.
i've added in a recipe and so far easy enough for my needs.
I have no clue as to macro's etc but on both days i've not reached my fiber goal, despite fresh fruit and fresh veggies.

Welcome to the thread @Preg19 Sorry I missed your post. You asked, How to stop eating chocolate? Perhaps consider not buying it and don’t have it in the house 😬 if you’re unable to moderate intake you need to abstain… sorry. If you really MUST have a chocolate fix what about going to the dark side? To help with satiety, make sure you have protein and healthy fats at each meal 👍 Also drink water and ensure you stay hydrated. You can make changes if you want to reach your target. Good luck!

Thank you @CrimsonAlligator , I did once buy pea protein, used it once or twice then put it in the cupboard and forgot all about it 😬

@fallfallfall 🤞 for tomorrow 😊

@Benjispruce4 I second what you say au a evening walk. It’s considered very beneficial 👍

Most people don’t get enough fibre @fallfallfall . In fact, 90% of people in the U.K. don’t. Beans are a great source of fibre, as are whole grains and nuts. Fruit and vegetables are a bit more hit and miss, with some providing quite a bit, but others hardly any.

As fibre keeps you feeling fuller for longer (as well as provide all kinds of other health benefits) it’s a good one to keep an eye on 🧐

123ROLO · 13/06/2022 17:42

Speaking of fibre.

Day 1 of my smoothies has ended with the poop shoots!

So I just made a recipe from the website I linked earlier.
www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/lentil-kofta-orzo-feta
Was easy but a bit of a fiddle. The mixture was wetter than expected and needed more spice/garlic as a bit on the bland side for me. But it made loads of kofte/meatballs/falafel type things. So I’ve got a Tupperware of about 10 that can be used in pittas and salads.
Made with green lentils and oats so I reckon I’ve had my fibre intake.

Benjispruce4 · 13/06/2022 18:33

26g of protein @HouseofHolbein !

Benjispruce4 · 13/06/2022 18:34

The recipe is for 4 but only 3 of us so I’ve got an extra portion of pasta and sauce as well.

fallfallfall · 13/06/2022 18:43

Thanks @TheRealHousewife
I spent last evening downloading 20+ salads…ones with fiber or protein.
tonight’s salad is quinoa and spinach more details to follow.

i’ll be halving the recipe and portions. NOT following the dressing recipe as is, but will manage similar with Greek yogurt.

Preg19 · 13/06/2022 19:07

@TheRealHousewife I don’t buy it it’s my husband!
I will try the tips about individual bars and dark chocolate though!

Preg19 · 13/06/2022 19:08

He’s literally come home with half a bag full of treats for himself it makes it so much harder, but I am determined!

milkfromthesleepycow · 13/06/2022 19:14

Apologies @TheRealHousewife , I name checked crimson alligator instead of you when talking about protein supplements- was rushing to post before taking the kids swimming. Bulk clear whey isolate apple and blackcurrant flavour. It'll remind you of weak ribena

TheRealHousewife · 13/06/2022 19:29

No apologies needed @milkfromthesleepycow 😊. It’s all positive stuff 👍

@Preg19 Be strong! Brush your teeth, run up and down stairs, have a cool drink of water … anything to help your gob swerve the sugar 😬

Ok my @fallfallfall that salad looks right up my street. I love salads that are a mix of beans, lentils or quinoa coupled with tiny cut up veg & sal 😋

Evening all... much better day today, one of my lower calorie ones too. Funnily enough, I had Kofta's tonight as well, Benji - although could've probably eaten more than I did but the recipe didn't make that many!

Preg19 - I am not too fussed with chocolate but just admit, I have a stash of the Skinny bars in 'my' cupboard... the Mint Whip one is my favourite and they definitely hit the spot... and dont think any are over 100 calories. I wasn't sure if you were logging calories in and out but I find them a good way to get a sweet hit without going over my limit.

Interesting protein talk (argh, what have I become 😉) and is an area I know I should improve and probably explains why I'm so hungry sometimes. And there is definitely a lack of fibre in my diet (although things have eased following my prunes of yesterday!) I should probably focus more on what is going in nutrition wise rather than calories...

It's DD's birthday tomorrow - I'll have a teenager which is frankly, terrifying! She's obviously at school during the day but we're out tomorrow night and she's chosen her favourite 'All You Can Eat'... practically impossible to make sensible choices but I'll see what I can do. She also wants Mary Berry chocolate brownies which are absolutely incredible but pack a real punch, calorie wise! Ah well, it's celebrating me getting this far as well, isn't it 😆

fallfallfall · 14/06/2022 01:50

Well done @SanFranBear , amazing how time flies! My eldest turned 40 in April and my baby (who is coming to visit later this week) is 37. But I do remember the teen years ;).
@TheRealHousewife , the salad is great with a touch of fresh mint. I added in some yellow bell pepper and glad I did for the color. Dressing: 1/4 plain Greek yogurt, juice of 1/2 lemon, 1/2 TBSP honey and 1clove of garlic. Salad and drsg was 210 cal. So I added skinless boneless chicken till I met my daily calorie needs, in this case 130gm which is a heck of a lot! Oh I also blanched the cauliflower.
64gm of protein for the day and only 67% of my fiber requirements based on this app…

Preg19 · 14/06/2022 07:34

I managed to resist the sweet treats last night, I forget how nice it is to go to bed not feeling like I’ve over indulged! This weather is definitely spurring me on!

SanFranBear · 14/06/2022 07:44

Morning... did a cheeky jump on the scales this morning for a little sense check before I stuff myself this evening and I've managed to lose the holiday weight and am down to under 80kg (only by 100g but I am taking that!) Shall see if I can 'hold on' to that for Friday but not too hopefuly given the anticipated excesses of later!

Great protein and fibre levels there, fallfallfall. All that will definitely help you slip into the 150s, any day soon!

And agree, Preg19 - when the weather is so lovely, my appetite isn't quite so full on.. I'm sure it's harking back to cavewoman days when you feed up in winter to stay warm and last the scarce months. Hope you slept well!

Hope everyone else has a super day in the sunshine 🌞

ginsparkles · 14/06/2022 08:33

Well done @SanFranBear ! And happy birthday to your DD!

So here we go, day 1 (again!) shopping is in, meal plans are set. Haven't dared to see how bad the damage is. Might brave it tomorrow.

Plan for today:
Lunch - Katsu noodle salad
Dinner - salmon with new potatoes and veg
Have brought a banana for an afternoon snack and will allow myself one of the French shortbread biscuits I brought back for the team at work but that should still leave me comfortably within my calories for the day.

Hope the sun is shining wherever you are today.

Preg19 · 14/06/2022 08:57

@SanFranBear totally agree! Well done on losing the holiday weight!

TheRealHousewife · 14/06/2022 09:07

Good Morning

@fallfallfall Im always surprised how large a chicken portion is. Excellent source of protein! With salad if I’m trying to get protein up a bit more I’ll add a boiled egg too. About 6g protein at only 70 cals. It’s a good day when I manage to balance my macros 😊

@SanFranBear Congratulations all round 🥳 You should get to wear a badge ‘Proud mum of teen’ Hope you all have fun celebrating 👍Well done on losing the holiday gain too!

Tasty menu you have there @ginsparkles 👍

@Preg19 Harness that feeling! And we’ll done, it’s tough to break habits, especially if others are indulging!

Menu - Unusual for me but same as yesterday due to frittata being for 4 and only 2 of us eating in yesterday.

Morning all! Day off today 😊 slept until 8:30 🤣🤣 really needed that! Weighed in when I got up at 9st 7.4lb which is my lowest for a while.

Took an egg salad to work yesterday thank you whoever suggested that! Then had a few crackers with butter when I got home because I was starving.

Today I am doing very little as my next day off is a week on Thursday 😭 on lates over the weekend but I have parkrun on Saturday and I've volunteered to help set up a soapbox derby from 6am on Sunday so that's not going to be very restful 🤣🤣

CrimsonAlligator · 14/06/2022 10:06

Well done on breaking through that 80 kg barrier @SanFranBear 🥳

That frittata looks lovely @TheRealHousewife . I’m sure it won’t be too much of a struggle to have that again today.

My plan for today is:

Breakfast: Skyr yoghurt with blueberries, banana and mixed seeds
Lunch: Falafel with raw vegetable salad & hummus
Dinner: Tofu and vegetable stir fry

That comes in at 1400 calories, gets me 66 grams of protein 👎 and 32 grams of fibre 👍 I’ll have more calories to play with as I’m planning a 1 hour row after work. I should have done it this morning, but I overslept.

I guess a protein shake is the obvious addition to the above, but I’m not sure when to fit that in. I really don’t like feeling full before exercise and as I’ll have my dinner straight afterwards that’s not a great time either 🤔
