☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Forgot my meal plan for the day

Lunch - the usual, cup-a-soup and veggies
Dinner - curry night! Homemade curries for the whole family 😁 ours is veggie, kids have fruity chicken. We used to always have bhajis etc alongside it, but now the only extra side is a mini naan that I'll share with the youngest.

CrimsonAlligator · 10/06/2022 09:34

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who loves the fruit & cheese combo. Makes me feel less odd 😅 Can you believe I’ve never even tried figs?! @TheRealHousewife I’ll try and find some. Do you happen to know what time of the year they’re in season?

I’m glad the Jubilee calories didn’t count for you either @ImALittlePea ! Just goes to show that we can’t really predict what the scales are going to show us.

Your 80 kg target sounds really achievable @SanFranBear . There’s still a lot of days left in June. Keep up the walking and keep up the healthy eating and you’ll get there 👊

I’ve been weighing myself every day this month, in an attempt to keep myself on track. I’m amazed to report that this morning the scales showed 73 kg again, which means I lost all of my holiday weight 🥳 It’s remarkable how fast that all went, but I did read somewhere that that’s often the case with holiday weight gain, or any gains from a short period of “excess”. Apparently it just doesn’t tend to hang around for as long as weight that’s been accumulated over months, or years.

123ROLO · 10/06/2022 10:39

Hi guys

Got my self into a tizzy this morning realising its hot and all my summery clothing is too small for me, so sat on a roasting train right now in a wooly cardi, black leggings and a baggy tunic.

I feel bloaty flabby and yuck

My summer is back to back with parties, hen do, weddings etc. I feel I can't look forward to them unless I feel comfortable.

I don't think its just a case of weight loss for me, I am getting very bad bloating and water retention so I need to find the culprit. (I suspect its too much refined carbs and salt)

My plan is 3 days a week (just for 2 weeks to kick-start) juice fast

Cut out carbs

Gym 3 x a week

Actually walk my dog rather than stand on a field chatting while my dog runs around.

Overall I want a stone and a half off.

I suspect I'm 13.5 stone but I'm too scared to weigh. I'm currently 12 on top, upper 12 or 14 on bottom.

I want to be 10 on top. 12 on bottom.

I really want about 10 pounds gone in a month. Sounds like a lot but I have a lot of muscle mass from when I used to be a gym freak (now its just surrounded by blubber) so I do tend to drop weight pretty quick

Benjispruce4 · 10/06/2022 12:34

@CrimsonAlligator yes I’ve read that too. Something to do with your set point and long term weight gain takes a while longer to shift because your body has adjusted to it. It explains the plateau phase we sometimes hit.
I love cheese with fruit and don’t see it as odd at all. Cheese and pineapple? Grapes on a cheese board? All very normal, tell your DH he’s the unusual one .
B- avocado on sourdough toast
L- Leftover homemade coleslaw ( even shredded the broccoli stump) salad and roasted tomatoes, crumbled feta, apple
Not sure about dinner yet.

HouseofHolbein · 10/06/2022 12:44

Anyway back on topic… keeping away from crisps limiting chocolate keeping my water up. Tonight I’m meeting a friend for a 10k run which will be good 😊

weight is up and down a bit but not going too far up which is good.

hope everyone has a good weekend? I’m in work both days 😊

TheRealHousewife · 10/06/2022 13:18

@HouseofHolbein Shwish shwoo you look great! Very corporate but at the same time approachable 👍👏

Figs are usually in season during the summer months in the uk @CrimsonAlligator

Welcome to the thread @123ROLO 👍Keep us posted how you get on.

I had a menu change today. Instead of omelette I made some home made wraps with oats, almond flour, water, brewers yeast, salt and an egg. Measured everything out. Batter made 4 small wraps. Had with mashed avocado, lettuce & cherry tomatoes. Yummy 😋

You look dressed to impress @HouseofHolbein 😎 Sounds like it went well?

Aw, @123ROLO quite a few of us on this thread either are or have been where you are right now. It’s not a nice feeling at all, but as you’ve taken control of the situation it will only get better! Just a thought, but would buying a few cheap items of clothing to tie you over be an option? That’s what I did when I started my weightloss journey and I actually found it helped me feel a little bit better about myself than I did when I was barely squeezing myself into clothes that were way too small.

@Benjispruce4 part of my DH’s views on me being a crazy continental might be because I once made pickled blueberries to go with cheese...they were gorgeous but DH refused to touch them and has been calling my love of fruit & cheese crazy ever since 😂 He’s the first to admit that we’re not very well matched in a culinary sense. He likes to eat the same bland, beige food every day. I can’t deal with that!

milkfromthesleepycow · 10/06/2022 16:21

God lord people - stop talking about fruit and cheese! There's no way I'm making it through today without indulging. I think three dates with sliver of tallegio and a sprinkle of chilli should be within calorie limit?!

@HouseofHolbein sounds like it went well (aside from the laptop breaking Shock), enjoy the 10k

@123ROLO welcome! Not sure I could manage a juice fast personally but it will probably help with the bloating. Interested to hear your results

@TheRealHousewife your daily menus always sound so healthy so I'm sure this will reflect on the scales soon

pennysays · 10/06/2022 19:23

Hmmm bought new scales and am up 2kg. It was inevitable. But boo!
I’ve decided do download lose it - I hate calorie counting. It’s so boring but the losses aren’t coming any other way even though my diet is good. I’m just not eating a calorie deficit so here we go again. Sigh.

Sw: 74.85kg

Benjispruce4 · 10/06/2022 22:49

Well all I can say is that Tom Cruise has still got it . Top Gum Maverick was awesome. Yea I’ve had half a bottle of champagne that DH bought me for our anniversary this week 😍 but it was worth it. Night all!

TheRealHousewife · 10/06/2022 23:16

@Benjispruce4 Id like to see Maverick Top Gun too! Sounds worth a watch 😬

@pennysays In the past I have had that happen too! why do new scales always weigh heavier! Frustrating!

@milkfromthesleepycow that combo of fruit & cheese & chilli sounds delish 😋 As for scales I just Bob up and down a couple of lbs. Have done for over a year really so I take it as maintaining. I’m not tall, don’t do much exercise as disabled and my thyroid is kaput, so all in all happy to maintain. In a perfect world I’d like to lose another 1/2stone 😬

@CrimsonAlligator i can’t do beige food either. I’ve got to add a bit of spice.

I don’t know what’s going on with MN but I keep losing whole posts I’ve spent ages tagging people on. Grrrrrr! Anyone else?

milkfromthesleepycow · 11/06/2022 07:36

@Benjispruce4 it's a new issue everyday at the moment. I've lost a couple of posts. Nothing seems to be updating for me at the moment as well. Very off putting

Will go for a run and ignore! Third 25minute run this week! Continuing to increase and then I've got a 5k training plan to start

Lunch is goulash and veg, dinner halloumi salad

milkfromthesleepycow · 11/06/2022 07:44

@TheRealHousewife Ah that makes sense! I've been wondering about the end of this myself recently- quite prematurely as I'm not in the healthy BMI range yet! At the moment I feel good, more energy and reasonably happy with the way I look, which is a nice feeling

Not sure whether I'm being wildly over zealous with my 'target' as it's still 2st down from where I am now. Maybe soon I should stop concentrating on weight loss so much and just live and see what happens? It would probably do my brain good to step back a bit

CrimsonAlligator · 11/06/2022 08:40

Where would a 2 stone loss get you on the BMI range @milkfromthesleepycow ? If it’s somewhere towards the middle, or the top end of the range, it should be feasible, but obviously the lower that would get you on the range, the harder it will be 🤔

I’ve been losing weight for over a year now and think it’s really healthy to take a break from time to time and see what happens. In my case, I usually go off the rails within seconds of deciding that I’m going to be less strict...That’s ok though. It just helps to remind me that I clearly benefit from having some kind of structure!

I was feeling a tinsy bit sorry for myself yesterday, when I realised that all I’ve managed to lose since September last year is 5 kg. But then I thought, actually when you look at how few people are managing to keep weight off long term that’s really good. Not only did I not put all the weight I lost back on, I lost another 5 kg! Keeping things off long term is the real challenge.

@Benjispruce4 the app keeps refreshing for me when I’m writing a post. Very useful! 😣 I’ve started writing my posts as a separate note and then copying it across.

BTW, what is it with new scales?! Why do they never show a lower number?

milkfromthesleepycow · 11/06/2022 09:02

@CrimsonAlligator I'm aiming for a bmi of 21.5, so mid range. You're right, it'll be much slower when I get below 25 anyway so I should probably stop thinking about it so much! And maintenance and sustainability is important.

TheRealHousewife · 11/06/2022 10:15

Good Morning

@milkfromthesleepycow I second what @CrimsonAlligator says about ‘depends where your target falls on the BMI range (although bmi can be a guide some professionals say it’s unrealistic). I’m upper end normal BMI. My initial target was lower but clearly with my physical limitations it’s not going to happen. Being able to maintain at a realistic weight is a good middle ground.

@Benjispruce4 Yes the new MN is very glitchy!

Following on from the UPF discussion here’s a Link from Canadas Government that recommends limiting highly processed foods(HPF) They seem on the ball.

Menu
Meal 1 - Cheese omelette (as didn’t have it yesterday) Pear, pecans.
Meal 2 - Chilli & Spicy Cauli Rice.
Tea, Coffee, Water

Enjoy your weekends and don’t forget about staying hydrated 💦

Benjispruce4 · 11/06/2022 10:40

I’m aiming for a BMI of 22. It’s 22.6 at the moment. I think I’m aiming for 22 which I only need to lose 3lbs more to reach, because that’s what I was in my early 20s which was the first time I had it measured by a health professional that came into my workplace and offered health screening to staff. Now we can get it in seconds online!

Gakatsbsk · 11/06/2022 12:22

I’m away to see Harry styles later and then out for drinks. Going to have a day off calorie counting, be back to it tomorrow. Going to be as mindful of calories as possible though and will be on vodka and zero sugar juice. Feeling a tad guilty but I won’t regain 1.5 stone from one night off.

fallfallfall · 11/06/2022 16:11

guests have left, i stepped on the scale and a was shocked and really heart broken to see 163+
i need to do something and have clearly lost my way. just feeling sorry for myself this morning.
oatmeal on the boil. need to calorie count really and need to find a calorie counting program i like. NOT a fan of yazio :( not a fan of mfp. the big problem is the basics i buy are just not in the data base (like the oats i get from the mill...) excuses because i'm being lazy both with logging (although tons of energy to debate why i'm not logging) and physically.
and dh eats all the pleases makes great bread and buys treats and maintains a fine shape.

123ROLO · 11/06/2022 16:56

Hi, thanks I suppose I could (and should do). Just seems like a really big deal to me to buy a clothes size I've never had to buy before!

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

With the juice fast I'm hoping just to kick start, in the past I've felt its helpful to do something a bit drastic just to see an immediate effect to get the motivation going. It might not be the healthiest technique but I think I need a serious shake up as I've fallen into such a bad routine.

Not even just the weight gain, I'm sat here tired and with achey legs and all I've done today is walk the dog and hoover. Only four years ago I was a cross fitter with abs who could squat my body weight. I want to feel good and healthy. And I just feel like pudding right now

I'm getting back to gym, starting personal training too. I'll never get 6 pack me back again and I'm absolutely fine with that, but even I could get 1/4 back to where I used to be ill be happy

fallfallfall · 11/06/2022 17:17

well i've downloaded a calorie counting app and paid for the ad free version...yes and entered my 300 calorie breakfast.
with a 1.25 lb weight loss per week goal i have 586 calories to go. age and sex suggests a 1288 BMR.

milkfromthesleepycow · 11/06/2022 17:44

@fallfallfall could you plan out a couple of weeks with your regular favourite healthy meals, strictly calorie count them and then use that as a template? I really struggle with calorie counting/ logging too- it's such a faff! I find if I do it for a couple of weeks I can coast on for a month or so on intuition! Might be worth a try?
That BMR seems awfully low

fallfallfall · 11/06/2022 17:49

i'm not at all surprised by the BMR, i'm that old and that sedentary. the birthday won't change, but i can up my exercise. when i do exercise i love it, and go at it long term BUT i can't outrun (in my case fitness walk/hike/bike) a diet that is too calorie dense long term.
