Shredding for the wedding

I'm getting married in July. Had a baby in October and am struggling to shift the lbs. I need to lose a decent amount of weight for my dress to fit! Starting this thread as motivation. Not looking for big long explanations and discussion, more of a daily accountability check in or motivation boost- anyone want to join me? :-)

@failinghard sounds like you're smashing it!

I'm doing low carb too, I just need to get back into the swing of tracking properly. I've just started weaning LO and I'm finding it hard to get organised with that as well as everything else.

Going to get my head back into the game this weekend!

@thismotherhoodthing hope bloating is improving! Hen was fab thanks - only one day so at least not totally off the wagon!

i know what you mean about weaning - making/feeding/cleaning up 3 times a day is just another 3 hours gone!

now I’m only 4 weeks to the big day I’m also trying to focus on upping water intake and doing skin care and exfoliating - honestly it’s exhausting but I’m still feeling sick at the thought of waking down the aisle and being judged for my appearance :(

failinghard · 08/05/2022 11:19

Hey ladies, had a bit of a tough weekend with keto flu, it's horrible! Not sure I am cut out for this diet. For first two weeks you can't have nuts, seeds and berries either although I am kind of ignoring that. I also can't quite get my head around the increase in fat so just trying to stick to healthy fats like avocado, Greek yog and olive oil. I don't even feel like I have lost anything extra by going more extreme, my belly hurts and feels really bloated. Not been able to exercise and had to cancel social thing today, not much fun!

@thismotherhoodthing feel your pain re weaning, such a lot of effort and waste. I do BLW once a day and then offer some puree later on in the day to minimise mess (she likes sucking out of the Ella's kitchens ones) but tbh she's still all about milk.

@Choppies totally get you on people judging appearance, such a lot of pressure. I am also doing quite a lot of extra skincare stuff, exhausting to remember what to do when. Can't wait till it's all over!

thismotherhoodthing · 08/05/2022 11:35

@failinghard I did a high fat low carb diet a while ago and I was the same. I think a lot of it is the lack in fibre. I added loads of low carb fibre like chia seeds and flax seeds and lotta of broccoli but then I also had one high carb low fat day a week where I got plenty of grains in. It's a right faff on though! Not sure I could do it again so I just tend to cut the more starchy carbs.

Re weaning LO has started rejecting the purées for some reason which is a right pain! Hopefully just a phase!

@Choppies I feel the same it's so crap isn't it!! Men don't have the same pressure! But im sure you will look amazing and also happiness is the main thing if you're smiling and happy people will notice that!

Yes I just need some raspberries, a bit of flax and a few nuts. I also think I need more protein than keto suggests cause I am exercising quite a bit. I don't really like having loads of butter, makes me feel a bit sick!

Do you guys do daily or weekly weigh-ins? Maybe it would be motivating if we all did weigh in on the same day? I do Friday morning as i know I cheat a bit more during weekends so good to weigh before.

Choppies · 09/05/2022 20:51

I can join a Friday weigh-in!

i fell off the wagon due to stress eating during a visit from MIL. Thankfully she’s left now so I can be good tomorrow!

ive never been able to do keto - always felt a lot better just switching to better carbs - e.g. bulgar wheat to shift the balance towards more protein and fibre. I’m impressed by anyone doing keto!

thismotherhoodthing · 09/05/2022 22:06

I can do a Friday weigh in! I was doing daily but have skipped a few days when I knew the scales would shift. We had our wedding tasting last week so I knew I'd be a bit bloated after that!

I struggle with high fat too even healthy fats. I had salmon egg and avocado for lunch and just felt a bit sick! I think I'm gonna go for lean protein, fibre and try to keep carbs to small portions

OP posts:
failinghard · 09/05/2022 22:13

Ok weigh in Friday!

Dh and I went out for a night out, 2nd night out together since DD was born. I avoid bread and starchy carbs but did have 3 glasses of champagne and a glass of red wine. We had all the cheese, but no crackers and bread!

Keto feels like absolute insanity!! Friday we will see whether I am proved right or wrong. I defo don't feel any thinner!

failinghard · 13/05/2022 06:37

Another 1.5kg down this week. Quite pleased/surprised after splurge on Monday night but have pulled it back. Still 2st to go! 🤪

Hope you ladies have had a good week.

thismotherhoodthing · 13/05/2022 16:32

Well done @failinghard that's brilliant! I'm weighing in at 136 this week which is 12lbs down since Feb. Still a little way to go but I tried my dress on this week and I could get it on at least! It's tight and uncomfortable but looked ok so I think another 6lbs or so and I'll feel comfortable in it! I've had a couple of days of itch some treats and back onto it tomorrow!

Rapunzel91 · 14/05/2022 08:32

Can I join please?

Getting married next year and I'm at my biggest at 12 stone 12 lbs, 5'3 tall.

Could really need some motivation and a community to keep me accountable. Good luck to all!

Choppies · 14/05/2022 10:21

@thismotherhoodthing thats fab about the dress! 12lbs is great! How long for the last 6lbs??

@failinghard that’s amazing and almost enough to make me want to try keto! Don’t think I’ve got time to change tack now though!

i am away from my scales on a last minute trip to see my dad so will weigh in tomorrow and report back. My wedding is now 3 weeks away - can’t quite believe it is so soon - really don’t feel organised yet….

@Rapunzel91 welcome

failinghard · 14/05/2022 19:38

@thismotherhoodthing that is a brilliant loss! And your goal is totally within reach. And you're going to look amazing! It's not easy figuring out motherhood, organising a wedding AND trying to get to your ideal weight.

@Choppies ahh 3 weeks to go. Assume all is good with your dress? Keto is a diet I never said I would do but it's definitely very effective. Most importantly I am not feeling hungry and defo eating less processed food and have curbed sugar cravings.

@Rapunzel91 welcome! What is your goal? What type of diet / exercise are you planning?

I am exhausted! Did a big work out this morning, then went to get a pedi (it was very necessary - literally claws) and then came back and walked with 8kg baby in the carrier up several hills.

I weighed again this morning and had lost another 0.3kg overnight. That's 17kg loss overall now, 12kg to go and 10 weeks, am I mad? Probably. I spoke to a seamstress today so hopefully she'll sort out my dress even if it's giving me an extra inch around the back. Seriously it's all I can think about and it's stressing me out!! X

Choppies · 14/05/2022 19:44

@failinghard thats such an incredible loss and even if Dress needs letting out this definitely counts as a success! 12kg in ten weeks is a lot but You’re proving you can come close! My dress fits - picking up on Wednesday - needed some alteration round the shoulders but thankfully nothing else due to my efforts here! I’m plateauing but tbh I’m mostly happy with that as I’m in the dress and looking better and feeling a bit more body confident - toning my arms and de-bloating (I have endometriosis) is my main goal now so lots of water and dry brushing and veggies!

thismotherhoodthing · 14/05/2022 19:54

@Rapunzel91 of course! Quite a few people have joined the thread then disappeared

  • but a few of us are still going! I'm sure you can achieve your goals if you put your mind to it especially if wedding is next year. Slow and steady wins the race

@Choppies my final fitting is 14th July. I definitely need to lose a bit more by then and I'd like to tone up a bit more as feeling very wobbly - hello bingo wings!

OP posts:
thismotherhoodthing · 14/05/2022 19:57

@Choppies also I have endo too - it's a bitch isn't it!

@failinghard you're doing so well, don't worry about the dress. Seamstresses are literally magicians so even if it's a bit small they will totally make it work!!

OP posts:
Choppies · 15/05/2022 11:56

@failinghard you’ve done so well at this point so at least if it needs letting out an inch it will be doable and no one will notice - they’ll just focus on how good you look!

i weighed in today and am 0.3kg down :D

Ancientbride · 15/05/2022 13:28

Can I join in? I’m getting married in 5 weeks and have been dieting since the beginning of March. I’ve tried to do the fast800 but I really struggle to get my protein up and carbs down so have been basically just calorie counting but keeping an eye on carbs. I’m not sure how much I’ve lost as I don’t have scales but I’ve been keeping an eye on my measurements and I’ve lost 4inches from my hips, 3 1/2 from my chest and 3 from my waist. I need to lose a bit more from my chest and waist to fit into my outfit. As the wedding date gets nearer I’m getting more demotivated probably because I’m so stressed about bloody everything. I really need to go for the next few weeks or I’m going to look shit!

failinghard · 15/05/2022 20:36

Welcome @Ancientbride - love the username, I hit the big 40 a few days after my wedding. Sounds like you have done incredible with all those inches lost! Keep on going, final push. I am doing a looser version of keto, and do get a bit overwhelmed by how much fat you have to consume, so like having a protein shake with flax, nut butter, yoghurt etc which is quite refreshing, and really fills me up, and is just one less meal to think about. Purition are really good.

Good to have some new brides!!

@Choppies amazing on your loss! Hope you are feeling good, not long now.

@thismotherhoodthing praying for this seamstress! Seeing her on Friday.

Anyone else absolutely shitting it?? I hate being the centre of attention. My DH2B has no idea what is going on logistically, so worried I am going to be crazy stress ball on my wedding day.

Choppies · 15/05/2022 21:32

Yeah I’m totally getting stressed about being the centre of attention too - especially as not everyone there will be super happy for us - e.g. MIL. All the organisation is falling to me on Mat leave and as the bride any errors will be blamed on me and nothing but praise heaped on the groom (stupid patriarchy!). Haha can you tell I’m stressed about it all??

Now it’s only a few weeks away I am finding myself reaching for the G&T in the evenings and craving all the bad stuff!

welcome new faces - great loss so far @Ancientbride please join us

failinghard · 15/05/2022 22:07

Urgh @Choppies that's a lot. Sorry your family are not supportive. Your wedding is for you and DH, no one else really. Just don't let anyone ruin your big day, you have worked so hard for this!! ❤️

I have my estranged father coming who I have not seen in 5 years, I just wish I hadn't invited him (I would have felt too guilty not to even though I don't owe it to him), and seeing him is giving me serious anxiety. But I just plan to smile through it all, kill them with kindness as they say, and just think 'I am not doing this today'. MIL also annoys me a lot as she's just quite lazy and likes been waited on, she's coming down for a week to help with baby (my mum is disabled so can't really help) and take the baby after the wedding so we can go on honeymoon, obv I am very grateful for that, but I am dreading her being in our space for so long.

Ancientbride · 16/05/2022 00:00

I really am ancient, in my 50’s and not been married before, mainly because I hate being centre of attention and just never felt the need. It makes sense for us now but I’m finding the whole thing very stressful. There are family issues too and some of my friends gave been a bit weird about our decision. It doesn’t help! I am not wearing a wedding dress or white but have spent a fortune on an outfit I love. The top part is too small (couldn’t get it in the right size), it almost fits but to look great I think I need to lose another half a stone or so.

This week I’m going to try and do 10000 steps a day ( v difficult as work from home in a super stressy and busy job), buy some scales, do 100 squats a day (did well with this at the beginning of my diet but then got bored) and eat under 1000 cals a day with less carbs. I’ve really hit a wall with the diet the last few days, just can’t be arsed with it any more so it’s going to be hard!

Thanks for being so welcoming, we can do it! (I’m not sure I can though).

failinghard · 16/05/2022 09:25

These all sound like amazingly positive steps! @Ancientbride - just try to focus on you and how you're going to feel in yourself. Sometimes I find myself thinking about everyone who is going to be there, how they're going to be feeling, how everyone will get on, what will it be like to see them etc - but it's not my problem, everyone else just needs to get on with it, it's not my job to make everyone feel comfortable.
Your outfit sounds very cool @Ancientbride and half a stone is completely doable in 5 weeks. I was counting cals for ages but weight was slow to come off and have stopped doing that and just do high fat, medium protein, low carb now and it's been falling off (around 1.5kg a week), so if you switched up your macros it would happen quicker I think. But you'd still be able to do it on low calorie, I just couldn't handle feeling hungry all the time. You can do this!!

Choppies · 18/05/2022 18:02

@Ancientbride honestly I think we are all dealing with our own friends/family issues regarding the weddings so you’re not alone!

I picked up my dress today and it fits! Now I just need to maintain for 20 days and tone up my arms! Water is my new mantra as I have really let my skincare slip with teething baby

thismotherhoodthing · 18/05/2022 19:59

@Ancientbride welcome! 50s is far from ancient! You've done amazingggg so far well done! 1000 cals is very low though make sure you're not depriving yourself as you'll just then want to binge and have no energy for your 10,000 steps! What's your outfit like? It sounds cool!

@failinghard my first fitting with the seamstress is tomorrow! Bit nervous. Also discovered that all underwear is visible through my dress so really struggling with what to wear on the day. Father situation sounds a bit stressy but you're totally right just focus on you and not everyone else. You'll have a brilliant day and imagine the memories with baby! Maybe ask someone to make sure your dad doesn't sit in your eye line when you walk down the aisle? Then at least he won't be the first person you see?

@Choppies smash the patriarchy! It annoys me too. I've given partner about three tasks and none have been done. MIL sounds like a piece of work - try to ignore her if you can! So pleased
For
You that your dress fits!!
