It's bloody freezing!

WellTidy · 01/04/2022 09:26

It’s snowing here! Not an April fool, honest. Just flakes, nothing like enough to stick and it is fairly sunny too in bursts, but the children are excited to see it. They break up for Easter today so my walking next week will be limited.

9st 6lb today, which is a very slight loss overall this week. But not a gain, so I will take it as it has been a two takeaway week (unheard of) due to Mother’s Day and wedding anniversary treats. Trying to get two hours’ walking in today, knowing that I will have fewer opportunities for the next fortnight.

Ineedastyleicon · 01/04/2022 09:32

Can I please join, 5ft 1 and stuck at 10st for years.

Knittingnanny2 · 01/04/2022 10:05

@Ineedastyleicon waving at you! Yes I had a good few years trying to hover under 10st which is when my clothes were far too tight. I think I’ve come back from Singapore weighing around 9.3 or 4 so back on full on loss to get back to 8.10-12 by the time I have to wear real summer clothes again. Got afternoon tea planned on the 10 th for knittingnanny’s birthday but apart from that no derailments!
Exercise for today is an hour in the tiny back garden sorting out and sweeping followed by a breezy stroll along the beach with cup of tea and no treats! Back to my overnight oats breakfast routine tomorrow, forgot to do it last night as I was jetlagged.
Mackerel with baby potatoes and salad followed by low-fat Greek yogurt for tea ( dinner or supper depending on where you live and what it was called when you were a child!) visit to one set of local grandchildren before that but will only have a cup of tea and resist the after school snack!

Sooverthemill · 01/04/2022 10:57

We had snow yesterday and today so my plans to tidy garden are scuppered. DH gets home later from 6 nights away ( visiting various people including his 89 year old mum) and I had hoped to have house and garden looking lovely. But, exhausted from DDs recent extra illness meant I’ve just rested. Also she and I have eaten evening meals together each night ( she usually eats alone in her bed) and that means I’ve eaten proper meals rather than my usual egg or soup when he’s away. I weighed myself. Next Wednesday I start again ( tomorrow is my birthday and Tuesday is dds birthday I went into labour on my 41st birthday!)

Knittingnanny2 · 01/04/2022 11:33

Happy birthday for tomorrow! I’ve just tried to book the afternoon tea but they don’t do it on sundays so will postpone it til the week after
Did a bit of brisk sweeping and just off for a short walk as it’s too windy to battle through and go too far, well that’s my excuse anyway

morningmaeve · 01/04/2022 13:39

I've got covid so I'm not thinking about weighing this week. Appetite has not been diminished but I'm not feeling great. Happy birthday @Sooverthemill and welcome @Ineedastyleicon

Weelegs29 · 01/04/2022 16:34

Happy Friday everyone! I've just totted up my walking miles for the last week and I'm just short of 35 miles so im hoping that will reflect on the scales tomorrow when I weigh in. For a normally very lazy lady im pretty impressed with myself, I might even keep it up! Hope you all have a lovely weekend whatever you are up to

WellTidy · 04/04/2022 08:29

@Sooverthemill hope you had a lovely birthday

@Morningmaeve and I hope you’re feeling better

@Weelegs29 well done on all that walking! That is really good going

I’m up 0.5lb to 9st 6.75lb from Friday today after a not-great Friday to Sunday on the eating front. I’m feeling really hard done by Smile as DH and DS1 (14yo) eat masses more than I do and seemingly don’t gain. We’ve all had the same, I’ve just had less than they have. Too much for me, clearly. Piddling down here this morning so I will try and walk this afternoon.

WellTidy · 04/04/2022 08:32

Welcome @Ineedastyleicon, I too am 5 foot 1 and started the year at 10st 5lb. Down to 9st 6.75lb but more to lose as I’m hoping to be under 9stone for the end of May, which would be the first time in maybe five years. I find everyone on this thread really supportive, it’s helped me loads. Good luck.

Sooverthemill · 04/04/2022 10:47

Thank you I did have a lovely day. Perfect given our strange life!
So I weighed myself and I haven’t gained so that’s good. Tomorrow is DDs birthday so Wednesday is stay zero for me. Going to try to get back to 8:10 and then think about going to 8:7

Knittingnanny2 · 04/04/2022 11:12

@Sooverthemill me too! We can do it! I’m going for a short break 5 days in Portugal with the Singapore family middle of July so that my target date for consistently being around 8.st 10

Raindancer411 · 04/04/2022 23:05

Oh gawd I have such bad will power! I have decided that after Easter I am going to cut out chocolate and biscuits but eat normal meals, and see what happens... I don't drink alcohol, or soft drinks, so I feel it's my only over indulgence...

What go to snack do you all use?

Sooverthemill · 05/04/2022 08:16

@Raindancer411 I don’t snack. When I did years ago it was oatcakes and hummus if that helps
@Knittingnanny2

yes we can be each other’s cheerleaders. Desperate to shake this extra weight, I think DDs recent extra illness has thrown me. Today it’s her birthday and I find it hard. Already had a little cry and now to get in with making it a special day for her

Neversaygoodbye · 05/04/2022 08:32

Looking for help from fellow shorties. 51, 5ft and have been sitting at around 10st 5 for the last few years. I've tried numerous things but just can't seem to shift this weight which in the past was relatively easy to lose - tended to yoyo between 9st and 10st most of my adult life. I've been doing 16:8 and 1200 calories (with a few more at weekends) since the beginning of March, I lose 2lb during the week when I'm stricter and then by the end of the weekend it's back on again. Any advice, should I drop the calories lower during the week? The weekend is very much family time when we have the occasional takeaway. I don't dring alcohol and I exercise indoor cycling 3 times a week, swim fitness once a week and hike once a week with additional walking where I can fit it in. Thanks for any suggestions.

Sooverthemill · 05/04/2022 21:01

@Neversaygoodbye I don't count calories. Although I know the calorific value of most foods because I have to make sure DD eats enough! My preference is to eat 3 smallish meals and use portion sizes, eg a fist is carbohydrates like pasta, a pack of cards is meat/fish, 2 hands of veg. I eat granola and yoghurt for breakfast every day which is probably about 300 , veg soup and slice of toast for lunch, about 350/400 depending on type of soup /size of slice and for dinner I have ( for example) 2 new potatoes, 2 large handfuls of veg and a small amount of chicken breast/ pork chop/ lamb steak ( 550?). I have 2 nairns ginger oat cookies a day for if I'm hungry which will be about 100. I rarely eat fruit ( I'm allergic to most raw fruit and veg)). Sometimes I have a piece of chocolate. Occasionally I have a bag of hoopla hoops. I never count drinks ( I have one coffee a day with oat milk and otherwise it's usually mint tea or normal tea with lactose free milk). Even when following a 'diet' years ago I lost weight ignoring drinks. I rarely drink alcohol ( don't like the tatse) but had a G&T at the weekend. At the moment I struggling with food intolerances and that makes it harder,
My view at age 64 I'd eat what you like but a smaller amount than yiu used to and keep moving,
Good luck!

WellTidy · 05/04/2022 21:43

@Neversaygoodbye You sound quite similar to me. I’m 46, 5 foot 1, and I started the year at 10st 5lb. I yo-yoed between 10st 13lb and 9st 3lb last year so I’m determined to make more lasting changes this year.

I am 9st 6lb, so 13lb off so far this year. I have to calorie count (I log on my fitness pal), because my idea of what I could eat was so far off the mark. I aim to come in at around 1300 calories each day, including weekends, and I wait to walk about 25 miles a week (my only exercise). I don’t eat my exercise calories. I eat everything, but now in as much moderation as I can manage.

I’d like to lose another stone, ideally, but my sort term aim is to be 9stone for the end of May. I am solely motivated by vanity - I don’t want to keep having to buy new clothes every season as I have so many things that I can’t fit into and would really like to.

Neversaygoodbye · 05/04/2022 22:34

Thank you both for replying. It's actually reassuring to know that it can be done. I guess the answer most likely revolves around the weekend calorie intake which I expect is undoing all my hard work during the week. It's so much easier to stay focused Mon to Fri and I resent having to be strict at weekends too when everyone else is enjoying a takeaway and cake etc. I used to be able to lose weight like this but it's probably being older that means I can't get away with it anymore and I need to decide whether I want the food more or my waist back, lol.

morningmaeve · 06/04/2022 08:12

Hello all and welcome @Neversaygoodbye I'm back after covid. Much better now but it is still hanging about a bit so l am continuing to take it fairly easy. Weight stable at just over 9 stone. I do the same as you @Neversaygoodbye and so many other people - week goes well usually and then I undo all the good work at the weekend! However posting here does help keep me accountable. My losses (just over a stone) have come thanks to reducing portion size/carbs and cutting out nearly all snacking.

WellTidy · 06/04/2022 08:49

@Raindancer411 I missed your question on snacking, sorry. I do snack, I try to have fruit or carrot sticks or something, or maybe a packet of crisps (wheat crunchies or quavers from a multi-pack are under 100 calories). I also have chocolate as a snack/treat quite regularly, but I do try and modify my portion size for lunch or dinner then.

WellTidy · 06/04/2022 08:49

@Morningmaeve glad you’re over the worst of it.

Neversaygoodbye · 06/04/2022 16:14

Hi and thank you for the welcome @Morningmaeve. So my plan going forward, reduce the snacks and be more mindful at the weekend ...it's DH birthday tomorrow so no doubt we'll either be eating out or having a takeaway and then we're off next week to spend some "quality 😂" time with the two teenagers. Is it just me or does there always seem to be something happening which makes it more difficult to stay focused?
I am feeling more positive overall though and hoping I can take more inspiration from this lovely group. Thank you again for all being so welcoming.

Knittingnanny2 · 06/04/2022 17:04

Yes! Always something to derail! Why are special times always including food?
4 year old granddaughter today said grandad needs a chocolate birthday cake- in addition to our afternoon tea out which I’ve now got booked for Sunday. I might write this week off

morningmaeve · 06/04/2022 18:10

So true about celebrating including food and drink! Even celebrating getting to the end of the week! But I've kept the stone plus I lost off and I think that is down to being mindful most of the time. No one can do it ALL the time Smile

WellTidy · 06/04/2022 22:24

Yes! Always something to derail us! This week it is this afternoon tea which was absolutely amazing. I made sure I walked for two hours that day, but I don’t think even walking a marathon would have burned it off.

Somehow still 9st 6lb, which I have been (more or less) for a fortnight, but expecting a delayed gain at some point. I have to get back on it or I have no chance of being 9st for the end of May. I need to lose a pound a week as things stand which is no mean feat for me. And, you know, Easter eggs to come.
