Did a reformer Pilates class at the gym today - lots of controlled stretching, is the best way I can describe it. Also walked for 90 minutes. The reformer class was interesting though and I think once I lose more fat, it will help with general toning. I’ve booked another one tomorrow but it’s really popular so I’m quite a way down the wait list. I’m going to weigh tomorrow and see whether the last week of being controlled has had an impact on the scales 🤞🏻

WellTidy · 31/03/2023 06:49

I’ve lost 1lb in just over a week. Just the one! I’d hoped for more of a loss to kick start me but a loss is a loss and I will take it. I looked at my weight loss tracking from the first half of 2022, and I can see that the first stone came off in about seven weeks but the second 10lb took about four months. I’d love to lose a stone by the end of May, but we will see.

how is the cutting of booze and snacks going for you @againmaeve ?

thislittlebird · 31/03/2023 08:41

@WellTidy good stuff. missed my Pilates this week as I have a hospital appointment this morning, will start up again when she’s back from holiday.

A stone in 7 weeks is impressive! If I could lose half a stone in that time I’d be pretty happy right now. My work photo saga has traumatised me.

againmaeve · 31/03/2023 09:01

@WellTidy - the cutting out booze and snacks not going so well. Renewed efforts required. My motivation has deserted me.

WellTidy · 31/03/2023 10:03

@thislittlebird if I’ve lost a pound in nine days this time, it will take a lot longer than seven weeks for the first stone to come off! I think I’m proper peri-menopausal this year too, which won’t be helping. Do you do Mat Pilates? I can see that there are two mat Pilates classes a week at the gym but they’re always massively in demand. I am doing a yoga class this weekend. I really liked that class this time last year and I’m hoping I can get back into something of a routine.

@againmaeve the motivation will come back, I’m sure. It’s tough though, I know. Hence me (re)gaining nearly two stone in eight months 😳

SwimmingOnEggshells · 31/03/2023 10:57

Hi everyone, great to see some familiar names! Big wave to you all.

I'm back at it now too, I've also put on everything I lost last year - why do we do this to ourselves?! I got down to 8stone 6lbs and then got completely complacent and I've been struggling to lose weight for nearly two months now. I'm currently at 9stone1-ish and I've lost a grand total of 1 measly pound.

I've been trying to do C25K again and I'm up at week 7 now so today I did a 22 minute run but it's depressing that the weight isn't coming off :( My holiday isn't until late July so maybe I'll get more focused now I'm back on this thread!
I've always found hearing everyone's successes and struggles very motivating.

@SwimmingOnEggshells week 7 is great! I seem to get that far and then pack it in, one day I’ll finish it.

@WellTidy i do worry about that whole age thing, we’ve been doing unsuccessful ivf for a little while now so I’d really like it to stay away a bit longer.

Yeah, I do mat. I’m lucky with the mat Pilates, it’s a small class in a hall in the woods where I live, so it’s never full.

I had a good weigh in and measurements check today. My scales are a mess, but digital weighed me at 9st 13lb and mechanical scales weighed me at 9st 5lb. I’m definitely nearer the high one, I certainly am not 9.5, but my waist measurement had gone from 83 to 86cm, and hips from 99 to 97cm. I think sorting the diet out seems to have helped.

WellTidy · 04/04/2023 19:55

I think you’re doing great @SwimmingOnEggshells - running for that long is really impressive.

Unfortunately I’ve put on half of the one pound that I’d thought I’d lost. And so in the last two weeks I’ve lost half a pound. I’ve kept under 1300 calories every day and done spin, lots of long walks, reformer Pilates and yoga. I am seriously wondering whether peri-menopause is kicking in and that the almost two stone that I lost last year could have my last weight loss window. I usually find that it is easier to lose weight right at the beginning, and it just isn’t happening this time.

I wish you the best of luck with your journey @thislittlebird x

Sooverthemill · 05/04/2023 08:35

I finally have an appointment with the hospital consultant ( this Saturday) and am hoping to get to the root of my gastro issues since food poisoning over 2 years ago. I've put on over a stone now and I really don't think I've changed my eating habits. I am so miserable I almost joined slimming world yesterday!

TrackTrack · 06/04/2023 07:00

I'm back after initially posting ages ago!

I didn't do very well and my weight went up to 8 stone 13, was feeling pudgy and overweight especially at my height. All my clothes tight and uncomfortable.

I'm training for a marathon, and had a house move, so nice evening meals with wine or gin and snacks have been far too frequent!

I know that I'm really, really comfortable at 7 stone 12, but I'm aiming for 8 stone 2.

I started good old calorie counting a month ago and I'm now down to 8 stone 8, a loss of 5lbs. Woohoo!

Aiming for 1lb loss a week, I have to be very strict with myself but it'll be worth it to fit in all my lovely summer shorts and tops!

Hope everyone is getting on okay.

I think I've lost and regained this half a stone more times than I remember, so I definitely understand that frustration. I know it feels demoralising but remind yourself, it's just a few pounds, not a few stone. It wasn't for nothing and you will get there again!

And huge well done on the running, I absolutely loved (and hated) C25K, 22 mins is amazing, you'll be doing 10kms before you know it 😀

Spirini · 06/04/2023 19:58

@WellTidy that's unfair, I can imagine how demotivating that'd be. Keep at it and it HAS to come off. It's science! I find it takes a while for the lbs to budge.

@Sooverthemill a consultant appointment on a Saturday is unusual, I hope they can give you some answers

@TrackTrack you've been making amazing progress. I'd love to be 8'2 but I think I'll never get there.

1/4 lb down today, 9stone on the nose.

AnalLysis · 07/04/2023 19:00

Can I join? 4’11’’ and easily 14ft one. Miserable and working on a bit of a food addiction - haven’t admitted that bit to anyone else but it’s definitely an issue. My plan is to go back to straightforward calorie counting and try and get in plenty of veg

AnalLysis · 07/04/2023 19:02

Argh. 14 stone!! Will read the thread in full but would welcome ideas for calorie amounts. Sometimes I think I should be on lower than recommended because I’m so short.

WellTidy · 07/04/2023 19:26

Welcome to the new joiners. We’ve been pretty silent for the last six months or so, as a group, but there was a time when this thread was very encouraging, supportive and active. Hopefully it will be again!

As shorties, we know that results generally only come from eating a lot less than we think we need. I try and stick to under 1300 calories daily, and don’t eat any exercise calories. I’m 47, 5 foot 1, and currently 10st 7.75lb. That is more than I’ve been at this time of year ever and I am not at all happy at this size (size 14-16). I don’t carry weight well!

I had a great run last year and went from 10st 5lb or so in January to 8st 11lb in May/June and a size 12 on average. And then gradually regained it all and more … I’m my own worst enemy.

Did two spin classes, yoga and some long walks last week and I’ve finally dropped some weight. 2lb off last week Friday to Friday. Aiming to start c25k again next week and keep up the spin, yoga and walks. Let’s not talk about Easter eggs 🍫 🥚

WellTidy · 07/04/2023 19:27

Good luck for the appointment tomorrow @Sooverthemill x

SwimmingOnEggshells · 09/04/2023 10:40

I don't think we've ever had this many eggs. It's insane, almost to the point of child cruelty. Thankfully I've only one and a small Lindt bunny.

I did a 5k yesterday and I'm 1.5lbs heavier today. Talk about annoying. I did eat loads of nuts and drank too many glasses of wine last night so it's my own fault really.

How's the exercise going @WellTidy ?

I hope the appointment went well @Sooverthemill

@AnalLysis welcome! Funny name 😆

TrackTrack · 09/04/2023 10:51

Still 8.8 this morning, have done a weights workout & 10k this morning, no DC here so luckily no chocolate eggs to resist! Hoping to lose 1lb by next week. It really is slow and steady.

So hard when you exercise to get the balance of food right; too little and it's unhealthy but I get bloody hungry so it's easy to overeat by just 200-300 calories which means maintaining rather than losing.

@SwimmingOnEggshells that 1.5lb might just be a big poo. This is always what I tell myself 😂

Sooverthemill · 09/04/2023 10:56

Thanks all. It was on a Saturday because the first one got cancelled due to strikes the second one due to compassionate leave and next week it’s more strikes so they bunged in a Saturday clinic. And it was shit. As soon as I said I had a burning pain ( in what I have always assumed tone my bowels ie below tummy button and above pubic bone) he said it was gynea . He was not interested in listening to me at all. I loathe make doctors. The sister was lovely. I have discovered that when I had my scan in November 2020 they found a potential issue with my uterus but no one ever told me. He was surprised but crap. When I pushed he said I could have tests done ( invasive) if I wanted but he didn’t see the point as I needed a gynaecologist

anyway I have decided that I will try ( from
Tuesday) to start all over again with the healthiest eating I can given the few foods I can eat without making me ill. I am going to essentially go for the GI eating plan which I’ve successfully used in the past and out DH on it too as that’s just simpler. It can’t start until Tuesday as we have too much birthday
stuff leftover and I can’t waste it we are very stretched financially this month

WellTidy · 11/04/2023 14:30

Sorry that the appointment didn’t go as you’d hoped @Sooverthemill especially as you’d waited for so long. It’s so hard when you aren’t listened to. I avoid going to see a medic unless it’s something big, so when I do, I expect to be taken seriously, so I do understand.

I didn’t have too much of a blowout over Easter weekend, but I’m still yoyo-ing. I am weighing every day but trying to look at the week to week picture to determine whether I am on a losing weight path. And I am - I’ve lost an average of a pound a week since I started almost three weeks ago. I did spin and yoga again this morning, plus 1hr 30mins walking. I did my first c25k run again yesterday. Plan is for spin again tomorrow and then more walks and to run every other day.

I’ve never got to the stage where I run for long enough or quick enough for it to impact on weight loss, but if I can keep it up this time, I’d like to. I stopped at the start of week eight last time because we went away for a month and then didn’t pick up when we got back. I found it really hard throughout but I would like to get further than that this time.

how are we all doing post-Easter?

Sooverthemill · 13/04/2023 09:11

Yeah it was really upsetting, I cried in the loo at the hospital

so I’ve had three days of working really hard and calorie counting my meals ( or planned meals). I don’t like calorie counting but I think in need a few weeks of making sure I know what I’m doing.

Sooverthemill · 13/04/2023 09:12

And I’m doing this because I went on several weight loss sites and entered my weight height age etc and came up with 1100 calories needed for weight loss ( which I kind of knew). Being short is such fun

NotEvenSlightlyReasonable · 13/04/2023 13:18

A new joiner, please be kind! 51, 5'1.5" ( I need that half inch) and a horrifying 9st 9lbs. It's a combination of peri, HRT, a deep love of white carbs and an equally deep dislike of exercise. Before I weighed myself, and realised quite what the damage was, I wanted a stone off, but I think a bit more is probably called for. I always struggle to lose any weight, but at the heaviest I've ever been (except late pregnancy) I think I have to grit my teeth and do it.

I've got a complicated system in mind, combining smaller portions, restricted eating hours, fewer sweet treats and rather more diligent attendance at the gym supported by hypnotherapy recordings and a star chart with outright bribery.

So far today I've been to the gym, had 2 small portion meals and planned a healthy dinner. Now to have fun with the stationery and draw up a star chart 😄.

Spirini · 13/04/2023 16:25

Hugs @Sooverthemill , I hate calorie counting too and I fear I'm going to have to start because whatever I'm doing at the moment isn't working.

Best of luck with the c25k @WellTidy, I remember us both doing it at the same time last year, I think I got to w6 last time. It really is a fantastic programme, when I got back into this time I couldn't run for longer then 90 seconds and now I run for over 30 minutes without stopping! My weight is just not shifting despite the running which is very frustrating. If I'm honest with myself my diet isn't the best so I need to sort that out.
