@NotEvenSlightlyReasonable welcome! I'm guilty of all the above, it's so easy for weight to slowly go on over time, a little excess here and there all adds up and being short of stature we don't need many calories so it's very easy to do.

Sounds like your complicated plan is a very sensible one, and not too drastic!

thislittlebird · 14/04/2023 11:35

I have to say calorie counting is the only thing that seems to help me. I had to stop for a week or two, but getting back to it now and hoping to eat my 1200 ish calories in lots of fruit and veg etc.

againmaeve · 17/04/2023 12:33

Hello all. I'm back from my city break and starting again with weight loss plans. Weight has been creeping up a pound or so at a time and I need to get it in hand before it goes any further. Haven't stepped on scales since my got back but my clothes feel tighter! I'm going back to My Fitness Pal and aiming for 1200 cals.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 17/04/2023 14:14

I'm going to have to just lump it and start using MFP again. Back up to 9,1 this morning despite running 15km a week!

OP posts:
NotEvenSlightlyReasonable · 17/04/2023 14:22

I hate calorie counting, it makes eating with the family so awkward. Good luck with MFP!

I seem to be enjoying the whoosh effect, first official weigh in this morning and there's a bit off which is encouraging. In it for the long haul though, it doesn't come off far when you're titchy!

WellTidy · 17/04/2023 14:49

hello everyone, lovely to have this thread a little more active again! I’ve had a wee whoosh and am now down 4.75lb in total since I started over three weeks ago. Slow going, but I’m keeping at it. I’m on track to be under. 10st for my holiday at the end of May. I was 9st 2lb for my holiday at the end of May 2022, which is depressing, but hey. Gotta keep going or I will be nearly 11st again.

I only lose weight if I track calories on MFP. So that is what I’m doing. Aiming for 1300 calories a day, and not eating exercise calories. Not doing anything like as much exercise as you though @SwimmingOnEggshells - I’m starting c25k again tomorrow (the twinges in my knee which I had for a week have gone now so no excuse) and still doing spin twice weekly, yoga twice weekly and lots of walking.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 17/04/2023 15:31

@WellTidy yay! well done :)
2 x spin, 2 x yoga and walking is loads, great that you're seeing results.

I'm thinking if I don't start to see results in the next three weeks I'm going to get my thyroid checked because I've a few of the symptoms.

OP posts:
WellTidy · 17/04/2023 15:57

@SwimmingOnEggshells ive just looked up symptoms of under active thyroid (as I have no experience or knowledge of thyroid issues) and I am ticking every box! I thought I was maybe peri-menopausal but actually I’m wondering if I may have a thyroid issue too. I will keep it in mind. Thank you for promoting me to look into it.

Sooverthemill · 18/04/2023 08:24

End of week one weigh in and I’ve lost 1.4 lbs. Pretty happy with that

againmaeve · 18/04/2023 09:37

Well done @Sooverthemill I'm logging on MFP as it helps me stay on track... racked up nearly 1600 cals yesterday which is too high if I want to lose weight. It did stop me reaching for a post dinner packet of crisps though!

Sooverthemill · 18/04/2023 09:49

@againmaeve yes if I wasn’t logging in every morsel I’d easily go over. It’s a shame because previously when I needed to lose a stone and more I never counted calories at all

againmaeve · 18/04/2023 09:59

The logging definitely concentrates the mind but it is annoying that three fairly ordinary meals a day come in at 1300/1400 cals. I need to up my exercise but the problem is I don't like exercise much!

Spirini · 18/04/2023 10:22

@WellTidy you should definitely get it checked so. I'm actually booked in for a blood test on Friday, I don't think I've the patience to wait three weeks.

@againmaeve @Sooverthemill I've started logging. I was quite surprised by yesterday - I thought I'd eaten hardly anything but it came to over 1400...maybe I've been kidding myself. Going to do my best to keep it up.

Sooverthemill · 20/04/2023 21:05

The other thing I'm doing is scanning everything into MFP and weighing my portion so I don't guesstimate. Dull dull dull
today I did have to guess because I got takeaway celariac soup from local cafe ( it's a favourite) and I logged the highest calorie version that I could find. For dinner ( home made chicken and veg curry) I logged the weight of each ingredient and I'm 54 cal under!

WellTidy · 20/04/2023 21:30

I log everything in MFP too. I was pleasantly surprised today to see that Waitrose duck spring rolls are only 86 calories each! I had four with some salad for lunch and they were so good. 344 calories. Which is less than a Pret almond croissant (I compare most things to a Pret almond croissant)

SwimmingOnEggshells · 20/04/2023 22:08

Oops! Realised I posted under another user name 🙊

The logging is so boring but I've finally accepted I have to do it. I've been comfortably under the last couple of days thanks to protein shakes for lunch, lots of carrot sticks to snack on and then a regular dinner.

OP posts:
Sooverthemill · 22/04/2023 09:12

Yes it's pretty dull but I'm well into the swing of it now and if I enter what I'm planning to have for dinner I can easily work out where I need to make switches to keep under 1200.and then I do enter exacts once I've eaten

SwimmingOnEggshells · 22/04/2023 09:24

I do what you do too @Sooverthemill and try to pick the highest calorie option on MFP if I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

Good news: calorie counting and higher protein is paying off, I've lost about 1.5lb and I'm now in the 8st bracket - 8st 12 (and 3/4s) this morning. I started dieting at the start of February at 9st3lbs and I've been hovering around that weight, never getting under 9, until now. Great to finally see results

OP posts:
Sooverthemill · 22/04/2023 21:00

Well done @SwimmingOnEggshells thats great! I'm down 2.4 lbs today but it's not an official weighing day

WellTidy · 22/04/2023 21:10

That’s great @SwimmingOnEggshells , you deserve to see results in the scales

The whoosh I reported at the beginning of the week ended up not sticking around, but hopefully since then I’ve stabilised. If today’s weight can be believed, I’ve lost 5lb in as many weeks. Not the loss I was hoping for given that I have a stone and a half still to lose, but it’s going in the right direction. Im disheartened by how slow and hard it is to lose this time round compared to last year, but if I don’t keep going, I will have to lose even more which will be much harder again. I think I have in mind my mum losing 2lb a week doing weightwatchers in the 1980s and I’m sure I remember her eating much more than I am right now and not doing any exercise beyond daily walking to/from work or school!

NotEvenSlightlyReasonable · 24/04/2023 09:29

Well done @SwimmingOnEggshells! I've huge respect for anyone with the strength to log calories consistently. It must be wonderful to be back starting with an 8!

At 1 week in (officiant weighing in) I'm 1lb down from last Monday but 2.25lbs down from where I started the Thursday before so I'm happy with that. 9.6.25 this morning, just another 14 or so to go. The system is working so far but moving more takes a lot of time.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 24/04/2023 10:06

@WellTidy 5lbs in 5 weeks is pretty impressive. If you were to continue to lose 1lb a week for the rest of the year there'd be nothing left of you :) I don't think I've ever lost 2lbs in one week.

@NotEvenSlightlyReasonable what's your system?

I kind of fell off the wagon on the weekend...I drank too many calories, I find it too easy to sip red wine in the evenings. Going for a run this evening so that'll get me back in the mental space again.

OP posts:
againmaeve · 24/04/2023 12:47

No change here but am still logging. Definitely been drinking too many calories here too. Renewed focus this week!

WellTidy · 24/04/2023 13:45

good afternoon all

fell off the wagon yesterday and finished off some of the kids’ Easter chocolate and then we had rice pudding after dinner

will do an extra spin class this week (which will in no way completely make up for it but can only help the general cause!)

tandoori salmon, potato wedges, toasted cherry tomatoes and beetroot planned for dinner. I’d forgotten just how much I like beetroot so I added some to my food order. When it arrived I realised that I’d added three packs so I will be eating it with every meal this week!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 24/04/2023 16:33

Glad to hear I'm not the only one @againmaeve :)

@WellTidy I ate so much beetroot last week that my wee turned pink! I love the spicy beetroot that tesco does.

Today I've had:
Coffee on milk
Banana
protein shake (100 cals)
2 celery sticks and some yoghurt/mayo/smoked paprika dip I made on the weekend - no idea how many calories but I estimated 200.
Dinner is pork chop cooked in apple sauce, mash and green beans.
1012 calories according to MFP.
feck all!
